Tom Ameen is a Disney fanatic. He loves the music of Disney and he writes his own versions of their songs in an amazing way. His new album "Even Villians Have a Soft Side" is no exception to his amazing work. We break down almost every song on the album and ask him the who what where when and whys of each song. When you hear his music you will be as impressed as we are. Don't worry he has a new version of the imperial march, and it is a waltz. You will want to get on your dancing shoes for it grab a partner and dance! It is also Star Wars Podcast Day where 24 years ago today the first Star Wars Podcast came out. We pay tribute to them as well. Check out all of the shows that have something to say about SWPD2023. #TomAmeen #Villians #SWPD2023 #StarWarsPodcastDay2023 Learn more about your ad choices. We talk about his inspiration for his songs, and how he changes them from a faster song to a slower song. Soarin' Over (insert location here) has been one of those rides that is fairly polarizing - either it's a must-ride or a walk-on-by - there's hardly an in-between. Terrence is one of those people who would rather give up churros indefinitely than ride any of Soarin's iterations, so who better to take us through the history of that ride than him? Before that, though, we welcome back the great Tom Ameen, who has another Disney album out, full of Disney tunes and gorgeous piano arrangements called, "A Softer Side of Magic". ---------------- Support the show! Composer, pianist and good friend Tom Ameen joins us to share his latest Disney-inspired relaxation album, Magical Meditations. It features tracks like I See The Light, it's a small world, Circle of Life - all reimagined at slower tempos perfect for naptime. Then Richard and Sarah share a spoiler-free review of JUNGLE CRUISE. Did it live up to the hype? Was it worth the wait? Would we watch this, The African Queen or The Country Bears? And most importantly, we want to know what you thought of the film, regardless of our comments. Please share with us on social media (links below) or in our Facebook Group. This episode also features a few quotes from Gwendoline Yeo (voice of Nala Se on THE BAD BATCH). On July 26 we attended a Virtual Roundtable. My full write-up will be here on Friday. Performer Stories — Fascinating Stories from Top Entertainers
This week's storytellers are improv comedian, writer, and show director Greg Triggs, One Woman Stunt Show Martika, Billboard topping pianist Tom Ameen, and Comedy Magician Shawn McMaster. This episode is a "grab bag" of stories, meaning that there's no central theme tying the stories together. Greg Triggs: Reminicing About Adventurers Club & Streetmosphere Performing at Disney World The first story is told by Greg Triggs, a show director, writer, and improv sketch artist who's appeared with top sketch comedy troupes like The Brave New Workshop in Minneapolis and the Who, What, and Warehouse at Disney's Comedy Warehouse at Walt Disney World in Orlando. In this story, Greg reminices about his times performing at the world famous Adventurer's Club and as a streetmosphere character both at Walt Disney World. Here's where you can find out more about Greg: Greg's Website http://www.gregtriggs.com/ Broadway's Next Hit Musical http://www.broadwaysnexthitmusical.com/ Strategic Entertainment NYC http://www.strategicentertainmentnyc.com/ Martika: Busking Encounter with a Parentless Kid The second story is told by Martika, an international variety entertainer based in Kansas City, MO. and the C.E.O. of KC Entertainment Services, LLC. Having left a career as a veterinary technician more than ten years ago, she's toured the world solo, performing fire art stunts, escapes, and other sideshow danger acts. In fact, she's Kansas City's only woman sword swallower, and the only one woman show of this kind in the Midwest! She also teaches a variety of workshops in these disciplines establishing her even further as an expert. In her story, Martika tells about a time she was busking and encountered a young child that appeared to be without his parents. This story also leads to a short discussion about some of the things she's had to deal with as a black woman in the variety entertainment space. Here's where you can find out more info about Martika: Martika's Website https://themartikashow.com/ Instagram @themartikashow Facebook https://www.facebook.com/martikamd Tom Ameen: Becoming JJ Abrams' "Go To" Pianist The third story is told by Tom Ameen, a Billboard Topping Pianist who's collaborated with top names in the industry like Jim Brickman and has frequently performed at many of JJ Abrams' private events. He's well-known among the Disney fan community having arranged and performed wonderful renditions of Disney classics from the theme parks and the movies. His most recent album is Stories From The Sea (Inspired by “The Outlaw Ocean” a book by Ian Urbina which is out now and can be purchased and streamed wherever you listen to your music. In his story, Tom talks about how he ended up becoming JJ Abram's "go to" pianist for his private events. Here's where you can find out more about Tom: Tom's Website http://tomameenmusic.com/ Shawn McMaster: A Card Trick that went Completely Awry aka "Penny's Story" The fourth story is told by Shawn McMaster, a comedy magician who's unequaled blend of sophisticated magic and hilarious comedy has made him a highly sought-after act all over the world. His ability to blend the astonishing with the absurd has delighted countless audiences both here and abroad. Shawn tells about the time one of his signature performance pieces went completely awry on stage, in a story we like to lovingly refer to as "Penny's Story." Performer Stories — Fascinating Stories from Top Entertainers
This week's storytellers are Corporate magician Robert Strong, Juggler Niels Duinker, Magic Mike Brooks, and Pianist Tom Ameen. In this episode you'll hear stories that share a theme of "You Can't Make This Up!" You'll hear about an almost unfortunate coincidence at a NACA Showcase, an internationally traveling juggler getting mugged practically outside his own front door, a couple unfortunate stage faux pas involving a banana and computer software, and a fun conversation about restaurant performing and awkwardness around tips. The first storyteller is Corporate Magician Robert Strong. Based out of San Francisco, Robert is a corporate comedy magician with over 30 years experience. He's been twice voted San Francisco's Best Comedian and three times voted San Francisco's Best Magician. Whether he's producing corporate events, working the trade show floor, or strolling with close up magic, he's super easy to work with and has even been called the "nicest entertainer on the planet." In this story, Robert shares about an almost unfortunate coincidence involving him and Brian Brushwood. The second story comes from Niels Duinker, a comedy juggler who has traveled the world with his act, become a multiple world record holder, and outwardly proclaims that "gravity is a joke!" Niels tells his story about how he, an internationally traveling entertainer, got mugged quite literally outside his own front door! The third storyteller is Magic Mike Brooks. Offering a wide variety of services from hypnosis, large-scale stage illusions, mentalism, and even close up strolling magic, Mike has become the premier choice for this kind of entertainment in and around Ohio.In his story, he talks about a couple unfortunate stage faux pas, one involving a banana and the other about how a computer pop up can screw up sound and lighting cues. Our final storyteller this episode is Tom Ameen. Tom is a Billboard Topping Pianist that's collaborated with top names in the industry like Jim Brickman and has frequently performed at many of JJ Abrams' private events. The music of Disney movies and theme parks is iconic. It inspires, it relaxes, it can make us happy - so of course there are artists in the world that want to put their own spin on such exemplary forms of music. Tom Ameen is a pianist who has done several Disney-themed piano albums, and we had the pleasure of talking with him on today's show. Tom is a Disney Parks fan who fell in love with music at an early age, culminating in 4 Disney music albums (with one on the way), and a Star Wars album as well! Learn about what motivates Tom, how he arranges his music to make the listener feel something different, and also which Disney Park is his favorite.
Performer Stories — Fascinating Stories from Top Entertainers
This week's storytellers are Greg Triggs, Edie, Ran'D Shine, Tom Ameen, and Suzanne. In this episode you'll hear stories about "Entertainers In Real Life." How our art can have a profound effect on people after the show is over, and entertainers having to perform after receiving difficult news. You'll hear about an unexpected gesture of gratitude from someone who saw the previous night's show, a heartfelt letter to the cast of Cirque du Soliel's Zumanity, a mild stalker situation, and two stories about having to perform a show after receiving tough news…losing a loved one, and receiving a cancer diagnosis. The first story comes from Greg Triggs, a show director, writer, and improv sketch artist who's appeared with top sketch comedy troupes like The Brave New Workshop in Minneapolis and the Who, What, and Warehouse at Disney's Comedy Warehouse in Orlando. Greg tells us about a time when having a great show helped him get his car fixed, a time when something he said rubbed an audience member the wrong way, and what he learned about being true to his audience. The second story comes from Edie, a stage performer, dancer, and actor, most notably known for portraying the Emcee of Cirq du Soliel's Zumanity. In this story, Edie talks about when the cast of Zumanity received a touching, heartfelt letter from an audience member. The third storyteller is Ran'D Shine, the face of the new millennium magician who's magic has taken him around the world from Cape Town South Africa performing his one-man show, "Mysterious Ways," to Presidential Inauguration banquets at the White House. Listen to RanD talk about audience members that really believe the entertainers really have special powers, and how easy it is to pick up a stalker. Our fourth story comes from Tom Ameen who is is a Billboard Topping Pianist that's collaborated with top names in the industry like Jim Brickman and has frequently performed at many of JJ Abrams' private events. His most recent album is Stories From The Sea (Inspired by “The Outlaw Ocean” a book by Ian Urbina which is out now and can be purchased and streamed wherever you listen to your music. In this short story, Tom talks about having to perform a concert just after losing a beloved pet. Our final story comes from Suzanne. Suzanne is a wonderfully talented magician based in Minnesota. She's a favorite performer at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, and fooled Penn & Teller on their show, Fool Us. In her story, she talks about having to perform a show after receiving a cancer diagnosis earlier that day. Here's where you can find out more about this week's storytellers. In this episode, Tom Ameen talks about how he's built a successful career as a classical pianist. Topics include restaurant gigs, getting private parties, and selling albums. He also talks about his new solo piano Star Wars album, which is awesome! Tom has played piano since he was 12 years old and studied under acclaimed pianist James Tannenbaum at the Cleveland Institute of Music. He’s gathered a wonderful following around Los Angeles which has afforded him many opportunities to collaborate with some top names like Grammy nominated artist Jim Brickman, performing on many of his albums. Tom even found himself performing as J.J. Abrams’ personal pianist. He’s recorded many albums with Canadian-based label Somerset Entertainment, some of which are Wal-Mart exclusives, others to be found at theme parks around the country. My favorites are his albums that he’s put out which contain music from the Disney theme parks, and these have charted on the Billboard Top 10! Probably the most exciting of all, Tom has just released his latest album, Journey to the Stars which features renditions of his favorite themes from the Star Wars movies!
