Sarah Anderson and Kenneth Robinson: A Healing Relationship- ecstasy, transpersonal therapy, and healing childhood wounds

Sarah Anderson, LCSW, interviews her previous therapist, Kenneth Robinson, MS, MTS, for a conversation about what constitutes a healing relationship. Although a conversation between two therapists, their discussion applies to all healing relationships, including friends, romantic partners, or between students and teachers. Their conversation touches upon universal themes of the human condition that blend the psychological and spiritual and range from trauma and safety to ecstasy and liberation. As Kenneth says, “Freedom is not a luxury; Ecstasy is not an indulgence.” Sarah writes about this interview: "My intention behind asking Kenneth to create this conversation with me was to demonstrate healing relationship. For me, the Western medical model too often objectifies "patients/ clients" rather than humanizing both healer and receiver. Sitting with Kenneth for eight years (with some breaks!) was transformative because I felt seen and heard in a new way, and my desire to help others was strengthened in this context of learning what it feels like to be truly safe in the world. Not that we can prevent death, pain, and injury to mind, body, and spirit, but it is our connection with others that contains these traumas and allows us to return home to love unconditionally." Kenneth Robinson has worked for more than thirty years in the healing arts. He began as an addictions counselor, then as director of a family counseling center, and for the past twenty-five years as a body-oriented therapist and teacher.  Throughout that time he has been a student of meditation and yoga, and for four years he studied Alaya Process, a transpersonal approach to healing. He has a masters in counseling from University of Tennessee and a Master's in Theological Studies from Vanderbilt University. Beyond his practice, Kenneth is a poet, musician, and founding member of the kirtan group Chant Ram. https://www.kennethrobinsontherapy.com/   Sarah Anderson combines her love of energy healing with psychotherapeutic skills in her clinical social work practice. A certified Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioner since 2001, she went back to graduate school in 2009 to receive her masters in social work with the goal of supporting others in remembering their wholeness. Sarah uses multiple approaches in her practice, including mindfulness, transpersonal therapy, trauma-informed cognitive behavioral work, and narrative therapy. She enjoys reflecting back to clients the aspects of their being that were never touched by trauma, while holding space for the grief process involved in remembering the ways they have lost contact with those aspects.   https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/sarah-w-anderson-keaau-hi/450152   The Sacred Community Podcast is an inter-spiritual hub of the universal teachings, “Love, Service, Remembrance, and Truth.” Home to Sacred Community Project interviews, live workshop recordings, dharma talks, and meditations, each episode is carefully curated to ensure its alignment with SCP values. Nestled in the peaceful solitude of the mountain state Colorado, the contrast of her calmness was immediate and tranquil. There's a certain flow and energy to where I'm from in Los Angeles; one that you typically grow into and evolve with, and it isn't always easy.  As I've heard many say, its like being in a toxic relationship with someone we deeply love but know isn't good for us! The healing journey looks different for everyone. Some people get onto this path because they want to help others. Some people get on this path when they realize that they only thing they can do is help themselves. In this episode, I talk about parts of my journey and how I was led to the path of (self) healing. If you are new to the healing path, I wish you softness in every part of your journey. This work can be hard but that doesn't mean we don't do it. It often means we do it with even more courage, strength, and self love.

Ajamu shares his knowledge and expertise as a Hypnotherapist and his experience in Transpersonal Therapy. He also talks about the healing tools of mindfulness and the significance of gentle awareness. Key Quotes: “As a hypnotherapist, I always want to remind people that they are much more resourceful than they would give themselves credit for being. One of the central tenants of neuro-linguistic programming is that we have all the resources that we need within us. And I do my best to share that philosophy and presupposition with as many of my clients as I can.” - Ajamu Ayinde “The central idea is that one must be awake to deal and address what's going on. We could all wish things were different or the way they used to be or the way that they might be in some distant future. But what is right now is what we must all grapple with.” - Ajamu Ayinde “When we bring love into our hearts, when we ignite that love when we acknowledge that love, we extend it to ourselves, we extend it to the other, whoever that other is, then that's where the hope comes from. That's where the solution comes from. That's where the plan comes from.” - Ajamu Ayinde “We're not superhuman, we're not Gods, so to speak. We are vulnerable as well, but it's our practices that make us able to do what we do. But we must rely on one another, we must lean on each other, we must be vulnerable amongst one another so that we can rebuild ourselves, renew ourselves, and restore ourselves so that we continue shining.” - Ajamu Ayinde “Disproportionate numbers of people who are being affected are people of color, and that's not something that is easy for people to talk about, black or white. But it is real, it is what is. And it's the underlying medical conditions that many people of color have that they bring to the COVID crisis that make them more vulnerable. But that has to be addressed, and it can't just be written off.” - Ajamu Ayinde Join us for an engaging conversation experience. Welcome to Part Two: Reflections on Ten years of Providing Psychotherapy by Paul Krauss MA LPC. Subtitle: Reflections on my experiences with different modalities of therapy and their implications. The work of Carl Jung and of Stanislav Grof - as well as many others - have been under an umbrella of "transpersonal psychology," a field that was developed in the '50s as an extension of humanistic psychology. Abraham Maslow first developed humanistic psychology - a framework around many other professionals who were developing that branch of psychology, such as Fritz Perls and Carl Rogers, but Maslow defined the field. However, when Maslow studied individuals who were exceptional, he found that they all described mystical experiences. All of his subjects described experiences beyond the "little self" or the ego that gave them a connection to everything. Experiences where they weren't separate from others, and that helped them to understand that they were either not separate, or that we all share a unitive experience. When Maslow studied these people, he realized that there was a vast new field beyond humanistic psychology that included it, but went well beyond. This is the field of transpersonal psychology, and Naropa's program is among the best in the world. Special Guest: Deborah Bowman.

The Lime Green Plastic Covered Couch; Insight for women who struggle to find lasting love ~  Marion Baker, author Marion Baker, like so many other women, struggled through years of internet dating. She was at her dating wits' end. Tired of packing up her last remnants of dignity to leave yet another failed relationship that was only months before THE ONE, she was ready to give up. Single in her mid-40s, she didn't have a clue to the secret for lasting relationships. The Lime Green Plastic Covered Couch, is a serious book with a light-hearted touch. Marion takes the reader through much of her own unsuccessful dating history and shows the steps she took to her own success; a happy marriage. Through revealing her own self-defeating patterns, including the commonly shared fantasy dream of a relationship that would save her, she then reveals what she did differently. Most importantly, finding a devout spiritual path was a large part of her own success model.  Now known as The LOVE Therapist, Marion is a Registered Therapuetic Counselor, specializing in Transpersonal Therapy.  Her book is like a personal counseling session for her readers. Marion shares her own and other women's love stories--some successful, some not--then comments on the stories from a counseling perspective.
