In this enlightening episode, we're joined by Eric McHugh, a business entrepreneur, Muay Thai practitioner, and windsurfing enthusiast [https://www.instagram.com/ericdmchugh]. Together, we explore the intricate connection between the physical discipline of Muay Thai and the profound spiritual growth it can inspire. We begin by delving into Muay Thai as a martial art—its rich cultural roots, powerful techniques, and the discipline it demands from its practitioners. Known as the "Art of Eight Limbs," Muay Thai is a combat sport that emphasizes strikes using fists, elbows, knees, and shins. Beyond the physicality, Eric shares how Muay Thai challenges not only the body but also the mind, teaching practitioners resilience, humility, and a deep respect for the art itself. It's more than a sport—it's a way of life. From there, we dive into quantum spirituality metrics, exploring how Muay Thai can serve as a gateway to understanding the connection between the physical and spiritual realms. Eric discusses how the energy flow in martial arts mirrors concepts in quantum spirituality, highlighting how practices like Muay Thai help align the body and mind with a greater universal rhythm. This alignment not only improves performance in martial arts but also promotes a deeper awareness of one's surroundings and internal balance.Next, Eric emphasizes the importance of raising your base level in all activities you do. By consistently challenging yourself in disciplines like Muay Thai, you naturally elevate your ability to focus, push through adversity, and achieve personal growth. This philosophy isn't limited to martial arts—it extends to daily life, encouraging everyone to strive for improvement in all aspects of their existence.Lastly, we discuss the power of meditation and its complementary role in Muay Thai training. Eric shares how meditation fosters a calm and focused mind, crucial for martial artists to maintain composure in intense situations. Meditation becomes a tool to quiet the noise, center oneself, and channel energy effectively—both in combat and in life. This episode is a thoughtful exploration of how Muay Thai blends the physical, mental, and spiritual, offering insights into how discipline and mindfulness can create profound personal transformation. Whether you're a martial artist or simply seeking balance, Eric's journey provides inspiration to integrate spirituality into your own pursuits.Want to be a guest on MC Anime Podcast? One could easily spend a lifetime exploring Vedic literature and still barely scratch the surface in terms of the wisdom that's available to us. Between the four Vedas, Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Atharva Veda and Yajur Veda, the Upanishads, the Brahma Sutras, the six schools of Vedic philosophy, and countless other written and oral texts or translations, there's no shortage of avenues to explore. And even if you could absorb them all in a lifetime, you'd probably need to reread them to understand them from a more evolved point of view.  Fortunately, the Vedic worldview is that all this wisdom is experiential, and we can shortcut the process of attaining wisdom through “knowledge of the Knower.” Thom provides an example of this in this assessment of Patanjali's Eight Limbs of Yoga, a subset of The Yoga Sutras. Thom clarifies that the piecemeal approach of trying to check off the eight limbs through our actions in order to attain the state of Yoga, is a misguided approach to take, and that practicing Vedic Meditation provides an express route that accelerates our personal evolution.Episode Highlights:[00:45] The Yoga Sutras[02:36] Ashta Anga[03:44] Yoga - Unification[06:27] Samadhi[07:39] The Simultaneous Arrival of Balance[09:57] 1. Send me your thoughts in a Text MessageIn the second part of the conversation, Christine Wushke shares about the early days of seeking, when she was in an office job thinking about Awakening and Enlightenment. She found solace in a used bookstore where she discovered Eastern philosophy books and felt supported on her path by always being given the next thing she needed. We discuss the importance of micro shifts in everyday experience and how these small changes lead to a bigger transformation. The conversation shifts to the importance of being present in the moment and taking one step at a time. We discuss the concept of everything being interconnected, using the example of fascia in the body as a reflection of this idea. Overall, the conversation highlights the importance of being mindful and present in order to facilitate awakening, integration and healing.Christine Wushke is a myofascial release expert, a certified yoga therapist, a registered massage therapist and a Hakomi practitioner with over 20 years of experience. Dharana is the sixth of the Eight Limbs of Yoga as described by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. It refers to the concentration of the mind where it becomes one-pointed, a fixed attention on an object. It is a holding or binding your attention to the object with the intention of reducing the rajasic movement that feeds, agitating the senses and mind or the tamasic boredom and apathetic state that gets the senses and mind stuck. We are looking for the middle sattvic path that cultivates mental stability and freedom from distraction. When he mind is distracted if feeds the Kleshas Avidya – Ignorance, Asmita – Egotism, Raga – Attachment, Dvesa – Aversion, Abinivesha -Fear. We use pratyahara and dharana in our asana and pranayama practice to weaken the power that the Kleshas have on us. Dharana is the doorway to meditation as it requires you to rest your attention on something for some time. This requires diligence and persistency like training a puppy. It requires effort, to be switched on, not off to train a mind puppy! The puppy likes to chase its tail, chew on a bone obsessively, take naps, hide, etc. We need to train the puppy, so it can be of serve and a good companion to us. So remembering that in practice Yoga Sutra 1.33 states we need to culitivate loving awareness, friendliness, joy and compassion. This keeps a trusting loving relationship with the mind puppy to practice being present. To be present, you just need two things Intention and Attention. An Intention to be present, with the effort and vigilance to turn your attention back to the presence. As the mind puppy will wandering if bore or entertaining judgements, stories, bias and act out. The Yogi needs to be receptive, sensitive and loving kind to reach the goal of practice, Nirodha, stillness to then awaken to the state of Yoga. Many yoga students are surprised to learn that the eight limbs of the Yoga Sutras have very little to do with the āsanas, or postures, that we associate with our modern yoga practice. I am blessed to share with you an amazing guest on the TAO-Living Podcast - Lydie Ometto. Lydie comes to us with incredible gifts, talents, and wisdom. She has a doctorate in Physical Therapy and in Chinese Medicine. She is a certified Massage Therapist, a Yoga Teacher Trainer, Yoga Teacher Instructor Trainer, Certified in Iridology and Kinesiology, and much more.  Lydie also brings to us her innate gifts: deep intuition, energetic awareness, clairaudience, clairsentience - she's a multi-talented woman! Our conversation is about the art, science, and philosophy of yoga. Many people think that the essence of yoga is that it is a tool for physical health and that is all it is. However, in reality the asanas (yoga poses and postures) are only one aspect of what yoga really is.  Lydie helps us understand the goal of yoga, the many types of yoga, and how to apply yoga principles to your life. We explore: How asana postures were originally intended to enhance sitting in meditation What yoga has in common with martial arts The power of pranayama, lifeforce connection Reconnecting to and remembering who we are as spirit Mantra yoga and how sound can create healing Seva or karma yoga: connecting to the divine through service How to start living the principles of yoga from wherever you are on the path How we treat our own selves, how we treat others, and how we allow others to treat us How the individual affects the collective vibrationally and vice versa And much more! It was so fun to have Lydie on the podcast because 1) she is my life partner and I'm so grateful to share her insights with the listening audience… …And also 2) so you could see who joins me in facilitating The Art of Living Immersion! We are looking forward to welcoming an intimate group of 20 people to our property here in Tennessee, USA for 4 days of healing, transforming, and shining in your spirit. October 12 - 15, 2023. Muay Thai, also known as "The Art of Eight Limbs," is a traditional martial art and combat sport that originates from Thailand. Its history is deeply intertwined with the country's culture, religion, and military practices, spanning over centuries of evolution and refinement. The origins of Muay Thai can be traced back to ancient Thailand, where it developed as a form of hand-to-hand combat for self-defense and battlefield tactics. Initially, it was a practical skill employed by Thai soldiers to protect their kingdom from invading forces. Over time, it became an integral part of Thai culture and society, with its techniques and strategies being passed down through generations. The earliest forms of Muay Thai were not only used in warfare but also as a form of entertainment. In the 16th century, the sport started gaining popularity as a competitive spectacle during festivals and celebrations. These events would often feature matches where fighters used various strikes, clinches, and grapples to showcase their skills and prowess. The fighters would wrap their hands in hemp ropes and eventually, this evolved into the use of cotton cords and later, padded gloves. By the 18th century, the sport had become more formalized, and specific rules and regulations were established to govern the matches. King Prachao Sua (also known as King Tiger), who ruled in the mid-18th century, was a notable patron of Muay Thai and played a pivotal role in shaping its development. He even trained in the art himself and encouraged his soldiers to do the same, solidifying Muay Thai's place in Thai society. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Muay Thai underwent further transformation. Western-style boxing was introduced to Thailand, leading to the integration of Western boxing techniques into Muay Thai. This era also marked the transition from informal open-air arenas to more structured and regulated stadiums, where the sport could be practiced and enjoyed by a wider audience. Muay Thai's global recognition began to grow during the 20th century as Thai fighters started competing in international competitions. Its reputation as a highly effective and dynamic striking art attracted practitioners from around the world who sought to learn its techniques for self-defense, fitness, and sport. The sport's international reach expanded even further when it was included in the inaugural Asian Games in 1951. In recent decades, Muay Thai has gained prominence in the realm of mixed martial arts (MMA), with many MMA fighters incorporating its techniques into their arsenal. The sport's popularity has also led to the establishment of numerous training camps, schools, and academies both in Thailand and abroad. Today, Muay Thai stands as a symbol of Thailand's rich cultural heritage and remains an integral part of the country's identity. It continues to thrive as a competitive sport, a means of self-defense, and a form of fitness training that resonates with people worldwide. The history of Muay Thai reflects the evolution of a practical combat art into a revered cultural tradition and a global martial discipline, demonstrating its enduring appeal and significance.

Charlotte Bell has been practicing yoga since 1982, and began teaching in 1986. She has established and taught regular classes along Utah's Wasatch Front, and in California and Hawaii. She also teaches workshops, teacher trainings, and yoga for cancer patients and their families at Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City. She has taught at national yoga conferences and international yoga teacher trainings and on women's river trips on the Green and Colorado rivers. Certified by B.K.S. Iyengar in 1989, she enjoys learning from teachers of many different yogic perspectives. Charlotte's asana teaching has been most influenced by her two guiding teachers, Donna Farhi and Judith Hanson Lasater. She received her 500-hour certification from Yoga Alliance in 2000, and is currently registered at the organization's highest level, E-RYT-500. Vipassana meditation practice has had the most profound influence on Charlotte's work. She began her practice in 1986, and has attended many 10-and 30-day meditation retreats since then. Her practice has been guided by her spiritual mentors, Pujari and Abhilasha Keays of the Last Resort in Cedar Breaks, Utah, since 1985. In recent years, she has made an annual trip to Spirit Rock Meditation Center in Woodacre, California, to sit an 18-day combined metta (kindness) and insight meditation retreat. Charlotte teaches mindfulness classes online, and at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts and Red Butte Garden. All these influences combine to form an evolving style of yoga that acknowledges the alignment principles of the Iyengar system while applying mindful attention to gain insight into the truth of each individual's asana practice rather than striving for preconceived goals. She encourages students to explore and trust their own experience in their asana practice, and enjoys learning new perspectives from her students. In addition to teaching yoga and meditation, Charlotte writes feature stories for several publications, including Catalyst Magazine, Yoga U Online and the Hugger Mugger Yoga blog. Her articles have appeared in Yoga Journal and Yoga International. She has written feature articles for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival's program since the early 1990s, and has participated in research and writing for a book about the festival's history. In 2007 Rodmell Press (now a part of Shambhala Publications) published her first book, Mindful Yoga, Mindful Life: A Guide for Everyday Practice. The book blends the principles of mindfulness with the practice of Patanjali's Eight Limbs of Yoga. Her second book, Yoga for Meditators, was published by Rodmell Press in 2012 and was one of 10 books recommended in Yoga Journal magazine's “Yoga Books of 2012” list. Her most recent book, Hip-Healthy Asana: A Yoga Practitioner's Guide to Protecting the Hips and Avoiding SI Joint Pain, was published in 2018 by Shambhala Publications. Charlotte plays oboe and English horn in the Salt Lake Symphony; the woodwind quintet, Scherzando Winds; the chamber folk ensemble, blue haiku; and with blue haiku, Kate MacLeod and Hal Cannon in the folk sextet, Red Rock Rondo. Red Rock Rondo's 2009 DVD has won two Emmy awards and an award from the National Educational Television Association.

An explanation of the first four verses of the Yoga Sutra's of Patanjali.  It details the use of a simple, direct method to achieve meditation and samadhi.  Transcript: https://glorian.org/learn/courses-and-lectures/beginning-here-and-now/yoga-is-the-dissolution-of-mental-activity A quote: Today we are going to analyze one of the most important works on yoga: The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Written around the year 400, it is a set of aphorisms or sutras. It is a practice manual of meditation. It is not concerned with intellectual study, but instead the actual practice of yoga. We all know in the popular sense yoga usually refers to a set of postures or asanas. Many of the popular western or modern yoga traditions reference the Yoga Sutras, yet Patanjali talks about asana (posture) as only one of the Eight Limbs or Ashtanga of yoga. The third limb is asana, which is your posture, but it is a foundational aspect. It is only a means to reach the real power of yoga, which is meditation (represented by dhyana and samadhi). The first chapter of the yoga sutras is about samadhi: an overview of what samadhi is and how to achieve it. Only later does Patanjali go through the 8 limbs of yoga. Today, we are going to begin where Patanjali does, directly with samadhi.
