MMA Hero Brad Pickett joins us on the line for episode #127 of Paddy Holohan’s No Shame Podcast. Brad is a former UFC fighter, head coach of Great Britain Top Team & considered by many as a pioneer of British & European MMA. With an MMA record of 26-14, Pickett was one of the most entertaining fighters to grace the octagon. On this weeks episode Paddy talks about his admiration for Brad, explaining how he used to skip school as a youngster to watch ‘ One Punch’ fight on the former MMA promotion Cage Rage. Pickett had a hard hitting style that made him a fan favourite. Brad explains how he took inspiration from Mike Tyson’s fight game. Many of the boxing legend’s trademark moves such as the bob & weave, the over hand, & hook shots where all elements that Pickett adapted for his own game in the world of MMA. Amazingly throughout his entire fight career, Brad never broke a bone in his hands. He attributes this to developing good technique. Brad also had a versatile ground game to complement his stand up & admits he would have developed his wrestling more if started MMA at an earlier age. “I was trying to beat you from the first minute to the last minute.” Brad’s first MMA lesson was at 26 years of age when he was humbled by a 16 year old fighter. Growing up Pickett had a background in cricket & soccer before boxing from the age of 19-21 but admits that MMA was by far the toughest sport he’s ever competed in. His first fight was in November 2004 & less than a year later he became the Cage Rage British Featherweight Champion, defeating Ozzy Haluk via Submission. It was around that time he started travelling to the US to train with American Top Team, developing an excellent relationship with MMA coach Mike Brown, the pair remain close friends today. In 2009 Pickett signed for World Extreme Cage Fighting after years of knocking on the door. His first Fight at WEC 45 earned him a victory via submission along with the fight of the night bonus, enabling him to spend more time training in the US. It was the start of an incredible bonus streak that lasted 5 figths into his UFC career. In April 2010, Pickett claimed a dominant Unanimous Decision victory over Demetrious Johnson at WEC 48, one of only 3 fighters to defeat Mighty Mouse. The WEC merged with UFC in 2010 & Brad had his first fight for the premier MMA promotion in 2011 at UFC 138. “If you’re in it for the money you’re in it for the wrong reasons. Money comes with success” After going 3-3 in his first 6 UFC fights, Brad dropped down to the flyweight division defeating Neil Seery via Unanimous decision in 2014. Pickett regrets dropping down a division admitting that he was stylistically unsuited for the lower weight class. Despite having so many impressive victories throughout his career, ‘One Punch’ was unable to win multiple fight eliminator opportunities with many of his opponents going on to challenge for the belt. Brad’s final UFC victory came in 2016 against Francis Rivera, before retiring in 2017 in his home town at UFC London. His post fight interview is an absolute tear jerker. Also on this weeks episode, Brad offers plenty of career advice for up & coming fighters along with discussing the impact of social media on today’s generation. Since retiring from the UFC Octagon in 2017, Pickett has transitioned into coaching & will be in Nathaniel Wood’s corner at UFC Fight Island on July 15th. Brad talks about the importance of mindset above all else. Having made the walk himself he has the emotional intelligence to understand what his fighters need & how to get the best out of them as individuals. Brad’s legacy stretches far outside the Octagon having spent his entire career passing on his knowledge to future generations. The standard in the UK now compared to the early 2000’s is testament to trailblazers like Pickett who helped to pave the way. On the subject of making it to the UFC, Brad insists that Cage Warriors is still the best route for British & European fighters. However ‘One Punch’ adds that It’s not just about the the Ultimate Fighting Championship anymore. There are plenty of options for fighters to consider now with the expansion of Bellator in Europe, One Championship in Asia & other emerging promotions such as ACA (Absolute Championship Akhmat). For some of our younger audience if you haven’t checked out Brad’s career, the highlights are on Youtube, familiarise yourself with a true legend of the game. For the rest, no better excuse to relive some of those epic battles that brought every single one of us to our feet, even Dana White. The full episode #127 of Paddy Holohan’s No Shame Podcast is available now across all the usual platforms including Youtube, Spotify & iTunes.

In this episode of the Millionaire Mindcast, our incredible guest, Bruce Buffer shares his insights, amazing entrepreneurial story, tips on how to achieve your goals, what are the winning attitudes, how to live an ideal lifestyle without working, how to make your business sustainable, when to give up when everything is not working, and how to stay on top! Bruce Buffer is a phenomenal entrepreneur and business owner, the President, and CEO of their company, The Buffer Partnership, the voice of UFC, Intl. Sports/Entertainment & UFC Octagon Announcer, introduced on broadcasts as the "Veteran Voice of the Octagon". He is the half- brother of the boxing and professional wrestling ring announcer Michael Buffer. Bruce holds a black belt in Tang Soo Do and has fought as a kickboxer. Bruce grew up seeing his dad’s entrepreneurial attitude towards everything, the passion, and intensity he approaches this thing has a huge effect on him. His father was a trader and collector of artifacts where he learned how to sell, talk, pitch, and deal at a very young age. He taught him an entrepreneurial spirit he needed. Bruce started his business selling jewelry in school. Later, he got into a selling business with an impressive selling performance by just observing and learning from the people on top. Then, he started his own company. Bruce learned the business organically with entrepreneurial attitudes with trial and error. His early pieces of training have helped him do things in business much better than most people do. On the other hand, Bruce never gives up on his ambition. He wanted to be an announcer, inspired by his half-brother Michael Buffer. Seeing successful people motivates him. He loves the attitude for standing up for yourself and sticking what you believed. So he fought that ambition for years until he became a professional mixed martial arts ring announcer and the official Octagon announcer for UFC events. Moreover, Bruce emphasized that in business you need to have passion too in what you’re doing. If you can find your passion and you can monetize it then you won’t be working on living a lifestyle. He is always world-class in what he does because of his work ethic and passion. Also, Bruce believed that we’re all GOD - a Governor of our Own Destiny. No matter what you believe in or get the support from, in the end, you’ll be the one who makes a decision for yourself. Therefore, you have to believe in yourself, do not change your principle and stay consistent because everything is all about attitudes. Set your work as always the first time, give your best and prove them and to yourself that you deserve the job. Bruce doesn’t let jealousy and green monsters into his business. According to him, “don’t be jealous of people if they’re successful; learn from them, absorb them why they’re successful”. It’s all about learning from others and applies those principles along with your basic principles and forms your path. Be realistic on what is your goal, the steps towards the goal; achieve the goal, the goal, then the next goal. Lastly, whether you want to be a leader or follower, either way you can still live an amazing life, just find what you wanted. But never forget where you came from! Some Questions I Ask: Where did your entrepreneurial journey start before the UFC? (02:02) What does your routine look like on a daily basis? (25:25) Who are some of the people around you in business or sports or industry that have inspired you, and what have you pulled from them? (29:59) What is your best piece of advice for young entrepreneurs today that still rings true and you always fall back on, you’ve tried, and tested? (34:44) What’s next for Bruce Buffer? Why are you pushing the way you’re pushing? (37:58) If you get to the end of the road and you’re looking in your rearview mirror behind you, what do you want to see or hope that is said that helps you go rest easy and say “that was life worth with”? (43:57) In This Episode, You Will Learn: The Pyramid of Life. (04:17) How the ‘Let’s get ready to rumble” brand form. (15:09) Why all the businesses are the same, the product is different. (18:30) The winning attitude. (25:00) GOD as “Governor of my Own Destiny”. (26:36) Bruce Three Put Theories (32:53) Tips on how to stay your business uniform and sustainable. (36:57) Parting piece of advice for entrepreneurs. (44:56) Quotes: “Everybody is important because without that base in the bottom the whole thing falls down.” “You should enjoy yourself from the fruits of your labor.” “Life is not that difficult, people make it difficult by thinking together to recreate the will.” “All businesses are the same; it’s just the product that is different.” “In life, I do everything with passion.” “If you can find your passion and you can monetize it then you won’t be working on living a lifestyle.” “When you want something in life, you have to ask for it.” “Be the best you can be whether you’re number one.” “If you are the best you can be into the best drive you can then you’re winning.” “It’s all attitudes.” “Stand up for what you believed, and hold on what you believed.” “Don’t be jealous of people if they’re successful; learn from them, and absorb why they’re successful.” “Look at the mirror and be realistic.” “Be realistic, step goal, achieve the goal, the goal then the next goal.” “Just stand tall and believe in yourself.” “Teach how to teach how to teach.” “We’re all created equal so we all have the same shot; it’s about how you approach it.” Connect with Bruce Buffer on: Website Instagram Twitter YouTube Email Address: info@brucebuffer.com It’s Time Podcast

Pumped to have coach Izzy Martinez on the show for episode 24. Before he was coaching Jon Jones & Holly Holm to championships in the UFC Octagon, and coaching a top 10 high school program, Izzy was an elite-level youth & amateur wrestler and also had his fair shares and ups and downs. Today, we dive into the Izzy Story! Rough Order of Topics: - Izzy as a Wrestler - Not Making it in Iowa City - Being A “18-22-Year-old Trainwreck” - What Early Failure Taught - The Transition from Athlete to Coaching - Chasing Opportunity - Entering MMA - Self Awareness - Mental Health - Social Media Wanna support the podcast? Australia is making international headlines over Donald Trump's impeachment saga and the media is losing its mind about it. We talk that and RMIT university giving a Chinese government agency overriding authority over teaching at its Confucius Institute, as well as the upcoming National Driver Licence Facial Recognition Solution which will totally never ever be hacked and the ACT legalising marijuana and we learn it's difficult to grow in Canberra. Our heroes and villains this week include UFC Octagon girls, Todd Phillips, the Bureau of Meteorolgy and the Victorian justice system. We talk to Daisy Cousens about how Australia got involved in Trump's impeachment story, why Trump is the greatest troll in the world, Greta Thunberg and Antifa stopping an old lady attending a Dave Rubin event (20:20-37:12). We then talk to IPA Campus Coordinator Angus Heaton about the upcoming Generation Liberty Event ‘The Great Energy Debate: Which power source is best to solve the energy crisis?' and how his IPA connection led to an outrageous Student Council session (37.15-43:21) before major controversy in another round of Hey What Did We Miss? (43:21-50:51) At the end, we debut the new segment Won't Someone Please Think Of The Children since Kings Cross will still have lockout laws, Angus Taylor's all-time comeback to Clover Moore on the ‘climate emergency' and we break down the results of the Breitbart poll on Trump.
"My fallback is everything." As an mma fighter, there are no tricks up your sleeve. So, when your back is to the wall, what do you do? "Jesse" James Wallace will tell you he has the answer. If you're in the cage with him, he's going to see to it that you're on the receiving end of that answer. With a record of 9-2, all of his wins have come by way of a stoppage. It may be time to sit up and take notice. American Top Team certainly did. Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series is back in action on ESPN+ with Season 3 and featured in the main event for Week 3, Wallace will step inside the UFC Octagon for the 1st time, seeking a contract with the organization. We told you Wallace locked up all of his wins by finishing his opponents. He wants "to be known as a finisher." Dana likes finishers. Sounds like a good fit to us. MMA FanCast's Jim and Luke like the finish, too! Listen in to get the rest of the story.

The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
Teach GRIT! The Good Dad Project Podcast with Frankie Edgar was a game changer for so many reasons. The coolest thing about the GDP and having a dad podcast is that no matter fame nor fortune, men jump at the chance to share their views, their journey, and even their struggles. For this week’s five minute Thursday, I wanted to recap some highlights from the interview with Frankie. When under pressure, be calm, cool, and collected When the UFC Octagon cage doors close…anything can happen. The secret to a successful outcome in the octagon is being prepared for anything because anything can happen. Frankie shares that being calm, cool, and collected is absolutely necessary to be able to think rationally. Being calm, cool, and collected is a skill that transfers from the cage to the family. Through our journey of fatherhood, there will be situations that test us under pressure. When we respond calmly and avoid a knee-jerk panic reaction, it illustrates our emotional resiliency. How to teach GRIT Teaching grit is probably one the most difficult lessons to teach our kids. Our instinct is to protect them from anything that is difficult. Our society also puts such an emphasis on winning at all costs. Frankie mentioned that he loves leveraging sports to teach his kids grit. For example, he doesn’t really care if his kids win or lose a wrestling match. What he wants to see if how hard they fight for the win. If there isn’t a desire and a fire in the belly to win, that is a bigger problem. None of us can coach desire. Desire is either there or it’s not. However, we can teach how to leverage our desire to win to tap into our grit. We can even leverage our losses to teach us lessons on how to win in the future. Finally, we can teach grit through losing and failure. A victory is even sweeter when we have to work at it extremely hard. Lessons of grit are learned through sports and as parents we can use situations like losses to teach these lessons. For Parents of Youth Sports: Take a Seat and Enjoy Frankie had some excellent advice for parents of youth sports and that’s “take a seat and enjoy.” Be the silent voice of love and support when it comes to sports. Its extremely difficult to not get emotionally wrapped up in our kids sports performance. I am speaking from a father who is a parent and a coach of my kids sports teams and I see it all the time. Parents can be extremely tough on their kids even when they think they are helping. I didn’t really get this mentality until I read The Matheny Manifesto by Mike Matheny, manager of the St. Louis Cardinals. If you really want to see your child love sports and if you want to see peak performance…take a seat, enjoy, and let the coaches do their jobs. In an episode about so many fighters coming back to the cage, SiriusXM Rush 93 host and MMAMania.com writer Michael Stets (@Michael_Stets) returned to join Rear Naked Choke Radio hosts Joe Rizzo (@RearNakedChoke) and Jay Kelly (@JayKellyMMA) to talk the return of a street fighter, a convict and possibly a French Canadian. Rumors of the return of Georges St-Pierre continue to swirl. The Reebok deal could be a road block in St-Pierre's decision to grace the UFC Octagon again. Stets talked about the former UFC welterweight champion's chances of returning, or not, pending a deal between St-Pierre's past and potentially future sponsors. In the event the UFC allows St-Pierre to wear more than a Reebok sponsor in the cage, Stets expects all the hell to break loose with every other fighter on the roster. Days away from the return of Jon Jones, UFC 197 was a hot topic. Stets talked about the former UFC light heavyweight champ's fight against Ovince St-Preux, as well as the flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and American Olympic gold medal wrestler Henry Cejudo. The fate of former strawweight champion Carla Esparza, who returns from a 12-month layoff on the preliminary portion of the event, was another point of banter. Stets held no punches when giving his opinion on Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson returning to the Bellator cage since testing positive for performance enhancing drugs. While some may have a concern with the situation, Stets explained why there's nothing more Bellator can do, as Kimbo has already served his suspension, and how Scott Coker is simply doing a great job as a promoter. Jacob "Stitch" Duran is the most famous UFC and Boxing Cutman in the business. Since 2002 he has been wrapping hands and closing cuts in the UFC Octagon and I personally can't remember an event without him. In boxing the Klitschko Brothers always fly him to Europe to work their corners and Sylvester Stallone puts him in movies. He's more likely to be recognised on the street than most fighters.
