Many of us struggle to achieve our desired goals, whether it is in life, work or even with relationships. But sometimes all the planning and striving, doesn't always bring us what we want. It can be difficult to remain motivated in the face of adversity or frustration and we might even start to doubt ourselves.

The complex, flashy, super sexy solution rarely survives substantial contact with any situation less than the ideal it was created for. It’s safe to say that ‘The Basics’ are just that, basic. The reasonable extension of this conversation then suggests also timeless. Let’s look at the lever, wedge, wheel… half of humankind’s inventions wouldn’t work without these simple machines. There’s a saying that goes somewhat like: “Why use an expensive whatnot when a hammer will suffice?” When faced with problems I like to reduce them to their simplest terms. Complex problems require complex solutions and complex things get increasing hard to pull off when we are tired, afraid, cold, wet, it’s dark… And even then, complex things are typically built on the foundation of the basics. So it stands to reason we should be absolutely brilliant at the basics to even set conditions for the fancy to manifest. At a minimum, the basics can serve as a last resort. If it’s a last resort you should have the greatest of confidence it will work! I’m assuming of course you are interested in results and not just the appearance of cool. LESSONS: Reduce everything to simple terms and then solve for simple. Uncontrollables have the greatest control over ultimate success of the complex. Be impressed with how well/precise, a master applies the basics. It’s called elegance. Spend time tackling the complex so that the basics have greater meaning. Episode 2 | Live a freer, more joyful life by giving up the things you can’t control and doing your best in the things you can. Be a thermostat, not a thermometer. You can’t control the wind, but you can turn the sail.
This is a clip from a Killer Instinct coaching call where a client asked a powerful question... "How do I stay "in control' when I am dealing with things I can't control?" I break this question down in depth. Shoutout to Brad for the Q. #KillerInstinct
In this sermon series Pastor Garry Clark reveals how to deal with our ‘inner conflict!’ It‘s called," INSIDE JOB," and in it we are given Biblical examples to follow! The first sermon in this new series is called "SHAKE OFF THE SNAKE!" It's a powerful message inspired by a very touching letter Pastor Garry received that was a direct result of the Uncontrollables message from a few weeks ago!
Pastor Garry Clark continues his powerful series on how we need to let God take on the things that we can't effectively handle on our own! He tells us "I'VE GOT THIS! Because You Can't Handle It!" In this message he'll focus on the things that are not foreseen, not expected, but are many times devastating...
In our latest episode, Mackey is live at Cairn University's athletes chapel talking identity. The minute that you find your identity in what you do instead of who you are, you fail. You will never find success in what you do because one day, what you do will stop, and you'll have to hangup your cleats in whatever areas or whatever abilities you've been dependent on. Mackey shares the common misconception that most of us have of thinking we can control everything. We try to control things at the detriment of our own lives. How many of us try to hold onto things as life is spinning out of control? We are so bullish and so convinced that we can do it that we are blind to the help that others want to provide. Mackey tells the story of the man who asks Jesus, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" He explains Jesus' response and leads us back to the idea that God loves us too much to not let us be our best. God will sometimes call you out. God will sometimes say "not yet" when we want something really bad. In the book of Job, Job cries out to God asking him where He was while everything was being stripped of him, and God tells him that He sees far greater than the human mind can understand. He looks ahead, and his mind isn't fixed on the present.

Interviews UNCA Radical Rush In this two parter episode, firstly we chatted with Beck, a University of North Carolina Asheville student and fellow organizer this year's Radical Rush Week, which builds off of the model of the UNControllables of UNC and their Disorientation. The hope of the event is to introduce opportunities to spark conversations and relationships to radical organizing initiatives on campus and introduce new students to local projects around the Asheville area. You can find more about this on fedbook by visiting “UNCA Radical Rush”, and find flyers for the week of events at UNCA and around the community including: Tuesday, the 19th Radical Reflections of Students Past; Wednesday, the 20th Tranzmission Prison Project & Asheville Prison Books Program packaging event; Thursday, the 21st Sex, Drugs & Self Defense; Friday, the 22nd Marathon of TROUBLE mini-documentaries; Saturday, the 23rd Herbalism as a Tool for Resiliency and Resistance; Saturday night DACA Solidarity Benefit Show Supporters of Comrade Malik Washington Secondly, our comrade and sometimes contributor Disembodied Voice shares several short interviews with members of politicized prisoner Keith Malik Washington's support team. Comrade Malik, as he is known to his friends and supporters, is currently in solitary confinement in Texas at Eastham Unit, where he was placed as retaliation for coordinating a work stoppage during last year's nationwide prison strike on September 9th. In addition to his work around the End Prison Slavery movement, Malik is a member of the Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee of the IWW and the Deputy Chairman of the New Afrikan Black Panther Party prison chapter, and is active in the Fight Toxic Prisons campaign. Malik has an extensive network of support nationally and even internationally, both within and outside of the anarchist community. The interviews we will share today show the diversity of backgrounds, motivations, and stories that go into forming a support network for those engaged in revolutionary struggle while incarcerated, which is to say, from behind enemy lines. The conversations cover a wide range of topics, including a look at the range of issues prison activists like Malik work around; the kinds of relationships prison activists form with their supporters on the outside; the importance of being in solidarity across identities and political labels; and what a revolutionary abolitionist movements means to the people doing this work. As Malik would say: DARE TO STRUGGLE. DARE TO WIN. ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE. You can view Malik's work at comrademalik.com and write to him directly at: Keith ‘Comrade Malik' Washington TDC#: 1487958 Eastham Unit 2665 Prison Road #1 Lovelady, TX 75851 The audio for these interviews is a bit rough because the interviews were done somewhat on the fly. Stay tuned (look for?) a transcript of these interviews in order to make comprehension a bit easier! It should come out sometime within the next two weeks. B@d News! Dear listeners, we would like to invite you to give a listen to the newest edition of the International Anarchist Radio Network's monthly podcast, B(A)D News: Angry Voices From Around The World, fresh for September 2017. This 4th episode, available at our website, is about 45 minutes of updates from projects based in the UK, Chile, Greece, the Aegean Sea, Germany, El Salvador and from us! Additionally, Feel free to give a listen to ARadio Berlin's Charlottesville reportback episode, done with none other than your host William Goodenuff. This was geared toward an international audience, so the news may not be new to a US based listening crowd, but if you want to hear why one of your hosts has been a lil absent for a sec, this is why. Everything's fine tho, and I'll be back to opine over the airwaves next week. Show playlist is here.
Clara and Alanis attended the Carrboro Anarchist Book Fair on November 22nd, 2014, and decided to try an experiment: recording an episode of the Ex-Worker in front of a live anarchist audience! We started off with our usual Hot Wire news, and then interviewed a wide range of participants from the book fair about workshops or presentations they did or projects they represented. Interviewees spoke about a writing project on southern insurrectionary history; the Can Vries eviction and riots in Barcelona, Spain; rethinking prisoner support based on experiences with anti-authoritarian queer and transgender prisoners; a moving letter by Luke O'Donovan sent from prison specifically to be shared at the book fair; an update about an anarchist injured and arrested at a Philadelphia solidarity demonstration; and participants from the New York City Anarchist Black Cross, the Inside/Outside Alliance, and the UNControllables, an anarchist student group.
Miah Akston and her friends are Uncontrollable as they bring listeners unpredictable political perspectives from a range of views. Miah is a transgender, voluntaryist, small business owner, and veteran ... and it just gets weirder from there. With a combination of wit, controversial subject matter, and a strong dose of humor The Uncontrollables will keep you entertained and educated every time.
