Post menopause bleeding. It's not just about making the midnight run for tampons, it's that stomach-dropping fear that “blood equals=cancer” that causes women to spend hours consulting Dr. Google for some reassurance. Although most women imagine the worst, in the overwhelming majority of cases, postmenopausal spotting or bleeding is not an indication of anything serious. But you should definitely have it checked out for reassurance. So, let's go over a few things in this episode- Dr. Oakley & Holly covers: • What are all the causes of post-menopausal bleeding? • How to know WHERE the blood is coming from… Is it coming from the vagina? The Cervix? The Uterus? • The causes of Post Menopause VAGINAL WALL BLEEDING • What causes Post Menopause CERVICAL BLEEDING? Thank you for listening. Please send in your comments, questions and suggestions for future topics at TheLadyBodPod@gmail.com.

Get our free clinical lab guide: https://www.medgeeks.co/labguide - As I pick up more per diem shifts in the ER, I've been seeing more and more complaints of the dreaded vaginal bleeding. At first, I avoided these patients as much as I could, because this isn't your every day complaint in the ICU. I had no idea how to approach these patients - I mean the last time I did a speculum exam was when I was a student. So, I challenged myself to see more of these patients so that I could develop a good diagnostic algorithm and management plan. So now I wouldn't say I'm a pro, but at least I know the right history questions to ask, the correct exams to perform, and the diagnostics to order as to not miss any life threatening problems. Today, I want to discuss the approach to the vaginal bleeding patient: What's normal bleeding? What are the red flags for emergencies you don't want to miss? What are the common causes? What diagnostics are we ordering? TOTAL EM - Tools Of the Trade and Academic Learning in Emergency Medicine
We are no stranger to controversial subjects here at TOTAL EM, but one that already has a significant division in emergency medicine is the use of pelvic exams. Most people fall into one of two camps: to do one, or not to do one in the event of vaginal bleeding. The big factor in more recent medical history has been with the availability of ultrasound to supplement or fully replace the pelvic exam. Michelle Perkins, who has co-authored some of our most well visited posts, joins us in this discussion.

Today's episode of EM Basic will review vaginal bleeding in patients who are not pregnant. This is a much different workup from pregnant patients with vaginal bleeding so we have to know how to effectively manage this chief complaint.
