In today's episode we are joined by Dr. Patricia Matto who is currently serving as the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs at Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). She gives advice for pre-med students on the application process, what VCOM has to offer and what they can expect as students, specifically during clinical rotations. She continues on to tell us her journey and inspirations in pursuing osteopathic medicine beginning from her undergraduate studies at Gannon University in Erie, PA to being a part of the inaugural class of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM). Dr. Matto also explains her decision to work in academic medicine and leaves us with her philosophies on practicing medicine with great advice on how to be successful in a career as an osteopathic physician. Okrem toho je komunikačný stratég. Ako komunikačný konzultant v agentúre Knut&Knut pomáhal množstvu klientov ako sú YEME, Klinika duševného zdravia Calma, či Schill Dental Clinic. Martin začal s marketingom ešte v 90. rokoch, preto má bohaté skúsenosti z celého prierezu vývoja marketingu. V podcaste sa s nami delí o svoj pohľad na marketing z pohľadu komunikácie. V druhá časti rozhovoru sa venujeme Lige za duševné zdravie. V podcaste sa dozviete: aký bol marketing v 90. rokoch vs. aký je marketing dnes ako sa posunul komunikačný odkaz, obsah komunikácie v čase ako sa mení reklama a s ňou aj populácia aký je rozdiel medzi stratégom a kreatívom, čo robia a aké vlastnosti by mali mať prečo je spojenie stratéga a kreatívca také dôležité či existuje nejaký štandard, ako rozpoznať, komu máme zveriť komunikáciou svojej značky čomu sa venujú v Lige za duševné zdravie ako pristúpili k osvete o duševnom zdraví a ktoré kľúčové momenty im k osvete pomohli Martin verí tomu, že dobrá komunikácia značky je stelesnením hlbokého vzťahu medzi stratégom a lídrom značky. Je nevyhnutné, aby stratég pochopil, čo chce líder so svojou značkou dosiahnuť. Nie len v tom, o koľko viac chce predať, ale aj v tom, ako to chce urobiť, akú kultúru chce tomu celému dať, či ako chce pôsobiť. Nedá sa to dosiahnuť bez stratéga, pretože on je dnes kľúčovou postavou. Veľmi dôležitý je vzťah aj medzi stratégom a kreatívcom. Ak medzi nimi nastane iskra, vtedy nastáva magické fluidum, ktoré je pre značku nesmierne dôležité. Prečo je práve tento vzťah kľúčový, nám Martin prezrádza v rozhovore. Zaujímavé je počúvať to, ako Martin opisuje rozdiely v marketingu v 90. rokoch a v súčasnosti. Jedno z týchto období bolo, či je viac o kreativite. Uhádnete ktoré? Martin prezrádza, že za vznikom Ligy za duševné zdravie sa spojilo na jednej strane poznanie problému a na druhej strane schopnosť, ako to tlmočiť verejnosti. Vždy sa snažili ísť ťažšou cestou, ktorá má zmysel. Spolupracujú s kvalitnými odborníkmi, ktorí dávajú kvalitné informácie a snažia sa ich preklápať do zrozumiteľných posolstiev tak, aby to spoločnosť naozaj chytila. Hovorí, že to robia systémovou zmenou, no na to je nevyhnutný stabilný tím. Prečo nemáme robiť príliš veľa prudkých pohybov, nám zo svojich skúseností Martin prezrádza v rozhovore. Čo nám Martin odporúča v súvislosti s marketingom: „Dobrý marketér je človek, ktorý by mal mať veľmi široký rozhľad v kultúre. Nie však v tej, čo sa deje v divadle, ale v tej, ktorá hovorí o kvalite jazyka, o kvalite správania, o tom, aká je doba a o jemných chémiách tohto sveta. Práve tam sa skrývajú vlny, na ktorých sa dá ťahať dobré posolstvo, ku ktorému sa vedia pripojiť ľudia, na ktorých komunikujete. Marketér by nemal byť politický buldozér, ale mal by byť veľmi jemný vizionár. Práve preto je tu veľmi dôležitý kultúrny rozmer. Marketéri primárne nie len predávajú, ale primárne dávajú značke, produktu atmosféru, s ktorou ju posielajú von do sveta. Keď si kupujeme vodu, nekupujeme si bublinky vo vode, ale kupujeme si celú auru okolo toho. A to vedia robiť len ľudia, ktorí majú pre to cit.“

Abstract: Balance training aims to improve balance and transfer acquired skills to real-life tasks and conditions. How older adults adapt gait control to different conditions, and whether these adaptations are altered by balance training remains unclear. We investigated adaptations in neuromuscular control of gait in twenty-two older adults (72.6 {+/-} 4.2 years) between normal (NW) and narrow-base walking (NBW), and the effects of a standing balance training program shown to enhance unipedal balance control in the same participants. At baseline, after one session and after 3-weeks of training, kinematics and EMG of NW and NBW on a treadmill were measured. Gait parameters and temporal activation profiles of five synergies extracted from 11 muscles were compared between time-points and gait conditions. No effects of balance training or interactions between training and walking condition on gait parameters or synergies were found. Trunk center of mass (CoM) displacement and velocity (vCoM), and the local divergence exponent (LDE), were lower in NBW compared to NW. For synergies associated with stance of the non-dominant leg and weight acceptance of the dominant leg, full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the activation profiles was smaller in NBW compared to NW. For the synergy associated with non-dominant heel strike, FWHM was greater in NBW compared to NW. The Center of Activation (CoA) of the activation profile associated with dominant leg stance occurred earlier in NBW compared to NW. CoAs of activation profile associated with non-dominant stance and non-dominant and dominant heel strikes were delayed in NBW compared to NW. The adaptations of synergies to NBW can be interpreted as related to a more cautious weight transfer to the new stance leg and enhanced control over CoM movement in the stance phase.
