In a season of return guests, another makes a come back. Amber Johnson, Idiot Brain Witch extraordinaire, touches on mental health again, and steps you can do to help keep mental health in check. Be it self care, calming techniques, or just being kind to yourself in general, you matter, and vets have incredibly stressful jobs. Yours might be, too, if your career isn't in the veterinary medicine world. Maybe you're unemployed or a stay at home parent. Mental health, self care, and calming techniques aren't limited to stressful jobs. It's an episode that can speak to anyone. Give a listen and be kind to your mind. If you have more questions for Amber, reach out to either of the Idiots and they can put you in contact. If we get enough questions about mental health in general, we may compile them into another episode with Amber. Last time Amber and I talked she taught me the concept of literature being "mirrors and windows." That means the gift we get through books is our own experiences reflected(mirrors), but they also allow us to peek into someone else's world (windows). Viewing books this way has made me better balance the selections I'm choosing to read, so they feel like they belong, but also develop empathy! I noticed you've featured in your work "mirrors and windows" again but now you've also added "sliding glass doors!" Tell me about that! Your newest project is a whole book full of book recommendations! How has reading become such an important piece of your family's life? How do you choose books for your kids? Do you primarily stick to books that focus on joy, or sometimes hard history too? How do you decide when a kid is old enough to be exposed to a hard topic? How have you made sure the books you use in homeschool don't fall down a particular rabbit hole and spread a wide feast? You can find Amber's Book "Soul School" or follow Heritage Mom Blog on Instagram. A woman's risk of being diagnosed with one or more chronic conditions, such as heart disease, can be influenced by her lifestyle and family history. In this episode, we're joined by Dr. Crystal Clark, chief medical officer for Community HealthChoices and senior advisor for the Center for Social Impact at UPMC Health Plan; and cardiologist Dr. Amber Johnson, to discuss chronic diseases that affect women. Episode 20- Mental Health in the Vet World. The Idiots are joined by Idiot Brainwitch Amber, LLMSW (and a whole lot of other letters) who discusses the importance of boundaries, mental health, and staying safe in your own head. The episode goes a little off the walls, as you would imagine with three neurodivergent people. If you are in the veterinary world, this is a must listen. If you are not, this also is a good listen as burnout and secondhand trauma exists in many careers. We also discuss the importance of boundaries and that veterinarians do not owe you anything, even if you sorta kinda knew them in high school over a decade ago. Don't be cheap, don't be an ass. If you are feeling any mental struggles, please review below. The world is better off with you in it than without. Please, find the help you can get. We love all of our Idiot Army and do not want to see one lose to the silent killer. You matter. You belong. Reach out to anyone, and if you don't have someone, please, call one of the numbers below.
