#1051 It Takes a Village to Raise a Business

More than a Few Words

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 1, 2024 1:19

Every parent knows, It takes a village to raise a child. Each of the adults in the child's life, relatives, teachers, coaches, brings a different perspective. The same is true for your business. No matter how smart you are or how much you know about your business, there are gaps in your skill-set. Your business village should be filled with smart, talented subject matter experts to help you fill in the gaps. If you are running a small business your village won't be comprised of employees, but an advisory board comprised of professionals, who provide information and guidance in their areas of expertise. Who Do You Need in Your Business Village? (On your advisory board) Your Attorney Your attorney's primary objective is to protect you and your business from risk. As you start you business your attorney can advise you on the right structure for your business and submit appropriate state and federal documents. As you business grows turn to your attorney for a range of legal documents such as contracts, non-disclosure agreements, and non-compete agreements with employees. An attorney who is familiar with your business makes the process of creating new documents much more efficient because you won't have to start each review by explaining what your business is about. Your Accountant There are bookkeepers, financial accountants and tax accountants. Which do you need? Well that depends on your comfort level with the numbers of your business. A bookkeeper keeps your day to day operations on track, paying bills and invoicing clients. A financial accountant is someone who can provide guidance not just bookkeeping assistance. Your accountant should prepare financial reports on a monthly basis and review key numbers with you. Your accountant should be able to help you predict if you have enough cash to meet future obligations and growth goals. A tax accountant does more than just prepare your tax returns, understanding your business, he/she can help you make decisions about when to invest, when to pull back, and how to avoid paying more than you should in taxes each year.  Your Banker The worst time to establish a banking relationship is when you need money. As you start your business get to know your local business banker. He/she will advise you on the types of accounts you will need, develop a cash management strategy, and secure funding when you need it. Your Financial Planner For many small business owners, the business is your retirement plan. The question is will this be enough? Don't guess. A good financial planner will look at both your personal and business finances to make sure you have what you need when you are ready to walk away from the business. Your IT and Marketing Support Sure, you can manage your computers and software on your own. You can post content on social media and call it marketing, but just like every other element of your business, you need to stop and ask yourself, should you? Is this the best use of your time, and do you really have the expertise to manage those roles in house. If not, it is time to add these professionals to your team. In both cases, the industry is changing rapidly. You need people on your advisory board who understand both the trends and your business objectives. Lean on them to make the right suggestions about where and when to invest so you can focus on growing your business. Build Your Business Village Sure you may own your own business, but you don't have to do it all on your own. Start building your village today. Don't try to do it all at once. Find someone in one of these categories and enlist their aid in filling the other slots on your advisory board.   If you've enjoyed this conversation sign up for a weekly newsletter get links to episodes you might have missed and other resources for your business   https://morethanafewwords.com/avoid-fomo/

Erin Dimond and Jordan Dugger are the visionaries behind two remarkable online coaching enterprises, each boasting a seven-figure revenue stream. Since 2018, their combined efforts have resulted in over $27 million in total sales. In that year, they founded T4E Systems, an online functional health coaching company that positively impacted over 5,000 clients worldwide. Their next venture, Impact Fitness Coaching Academy (IFCA), has flourished into the premier online business mentorship platform for health, fitness, and nutrition coaches across the globe. With a track record of assisting over 3,600 coaches, a team of 50 dedicated members, and a staggering $27 million in revenue, Erin and Jordan continue to inspire and elevate the fitness industry. She transformed her love for fitness into a seven-figure Online Fitness Coaching business, and now she assists other fitness enthusiasts and professionals in achieving the same. JORDAN BIO: Jordan Dugger, once an opioid addict, has now become an 8-figure serial fitness entrepreneur, a real estate and angel investor, and a passionate advocate for physique and human optimization. So when I do my public talks out and about, I talked about how I wasn't always like this, I had to learn my lesson. I was that sales guy that you would see it those different grip and grins, and I would come up to you, I would push my business card into your face. And I would say, hey, so let's have a conversation about how I can sell you. Essentially, I didn't say exactly that, but close enough. I didn't ask for your card. I don't want your card. And you know, people wouldn't say that, but they'd be very nice. And then next thing, you know, they would end up throwing out the card. And I would never keep track of them. Because of course, you know, I would never ask for theirs. And I would follow up and they didn't want to talk to me. So it wasn't until I sat down at a diner with my dear friend Brian. And he and I were about ready to talk about one of the different sales gigs I had been a part of over the years. And he started off by saying, Alright, Rob, so we ordered our coffee. What are you going to sell me today? I didn't have a reply to that. I didn't know what to say. And it was from that point on that my business coach at the time. We sat after that and he said congratulations, you've arrived. You have now figured out that it isn't always about you. ----- ----more----   Your Intended Message is the podcast about how you can boost your career and business success by improving your communication skills. And you have to get your hands muddy sometimes." -Tony Whatley   What you can achieve in life depends on who you are and your willingness to walk the hard path. And in order to win the battle, you have to be that person who has the heart, not of a quitter, but that of a winner!    This week, The Daniel Gomez Inspires Show brings to you a special episode with a special guest, Tony Whatley- the man behind 365 Driven and bestselling author of SideHustle Millionaire. This book is more than a book of wisdom, but an actual, genuine story- Tony's story. In this episode, Tony relates his own share of fears, challenges, and criticisms received from other people. More importantly, Tony reveals how he found the courage to fight for his thoughts, how he ignites his drive even if he finds himself not liking what he does (at times), the importance of being you and not bargaining yourself for what you can become, and finally, how you can keep yourself motivated to continue reaching out for a higher level of success.    Become a free-thinker. Quit trying to dilute yourself with what others say about you. Because at the end of the day, your success and the value you can give to others is what will define you. This week on the Instant Impact Podcast, Elyse is talking with Elizabeth Hartke, Business Scaling Strategist that mentors impact-driven entrepreneurs in scaling their influence, income, and time freedom without having to trade time for money or their values for their vision. After building two 7-figure businesses and having the privilege of working with hundreds and hundreds of entrepreneurs, she now runs her businesses and hosts her podcast, Scaling Up, from the rolling hills of her hobby farm with her three little kids and husband as she practices what she preaches - working hard to have the freedom to truly live!    Elizabeth and Elyse talk about the gap between where people want to be and where they are now. There is a distance between being that person you envision and who you are today. Often times, Elizabeth shares, people assume that Time + Hardwork = Freedom. This just isn’t the case. We need to be much more intentional. Making sure that the vision is solid is important, but being sure that you’re building and generating a business model that supports that vision. If you want to be in a place where you can create a passive income, you need to build a system that allows for that. If we drown in the day-to-day, though, it can burn us out. Keep your eyes up just enough to keep that goal in sight.    Elizabeth discusses outsourcing and scaling your team. In general, it’s important to remember that you should never stretch yourself to the point where you are putting your business at risk. She recommends taking a look at what takes up the most space in your head. Even if a task theoretically can take only a few moments, it can eat up your attention. At some point, you need to spend money to make money, and that means investing in a team to support you. Additionally, investing in things that will move the needle in your business. What are the things that are going to drive profit?    Finally, Elyse and Elizabeth touch on gift-giving and the impact it has on the longterm. Then, Elizabeth shares her tips on content creation and how intentional we have to be to get genuine engagement.
