POPULARITY
In this episode, I'm getting real about something every actor struggles with at some point in their journey: the frustration of not seeing the success you know you're capable of. Inspired by a powerful passage from Jen Sincero's You Are a Badass, I explore how your dream career (yes, including that dream agent, those callbacks, and the big booking) isn't out there in the future… it's already here, waiting for you to meet it at the right frequency. If you've ever asked yourself: Why isn't this working? Where's the success I've been working so hard for? Why do I feel like I'm doing everything right, but nothing's landing? …then this episode is for you.
Most freelance writers focus on crafting compelling copy, but the real value they offer often extends far beyond the words they write. The most successful writers don't just take assignments—they offer strategic insight that helps their clients achieve bigger business goals. In this episode, we explore how you can elevate your role from order-taker to trusted advisor by recognizing and communicating the strategic patterns and opportunities you spot in client projects. You'll learn how to position your expertise as a separate service, package it effectively, and ensure you're getting paid for the value you bring—not just the content you create. What You'll Learn in This Episode: · The hidden strategic value you're already providing... without realizing it · Why most writers stay in their comfort zone and miss out on bigger opportunities · A simple way to start shifting from order-taker to strategic consultant · A conversation framework to position strategy as a separate, paid service · How to handle client hesitations and objections professionally Key Takeaways: Your Insights Are Valuable—Speak Up! As you work on content for clients, you naturally notice gaps, inconsistencies, and missed opportunities in their messaging. But if you don't bring these to their attention, you're leaving money (and impact) on the table. Clients Often Lack Clarity—Help Them Get It Many clients struggle with direction. They change their minds, tweak the scope, or pivot mid-project. Instead of going along for the ride, take charge by offering a structured strategy session to help them clarify their content goals before execution. How to Introduce Strategy as a Paid Engagement Next time you notice a strategic disconnect, try this approach: "Based on what I'm seeing, I think we could create significantly better results with a proper content roadmap. Would you be open to a separate strategy session where I audit your existing content, interview stakeholders, and develop a plan?" Don't Give Away Strategy for Free—Package It Your ability to think strategically isn't an add-on—it's a separate, valuable service. Consider packaging it as a content audit, messaging workshop, or roadmapping engagement. Positioning it this way not only elevates your perceived value but also creates a new revenue stream. The Long-Term Benefits of Strategic Thinking Clients who recognize your strategic input will see better results, rely on you more, and view you as a partner rather than a commodity. This leads to longer engagements, higher fees, and a stronger reputation in your industry. My Challenge to You This Week: Pay close attention to the strategic patterns in your work this week. Where do you see gaps, inconsistencies, or untapped opportunities in your client's content? Practice articulating these insights in a way that leads to a paid strategy conversation.
Y'all, let's be real—asking for help is HARD. If you're like me, you've spent most of your life figuring things out on your own, carrying the weight, and feeling like it's your job to hold it all together. But what happens when you don't have a choice? In this solo episode of It's About DAMN Time, I'm getting real about the past five months—losing my job, struggling financially, and realizing that sometimes, you just gotta say “Hench Here” (hand it here) and take the help being offered. This episode is all about:✔️ Why we resist help (spoiler: it's deeper than just pride)✔️ How struggling in silence only makes things worse✔️ What changed when I finally let go and said yes✔️ The unexpected blessings that come when you open yourself up to receivingThis conversation is for anyone who's ever felt like they had to do it all alone. If you've ever struggled to accept help—whether it's financial, emotional, or just having someone be there—this one's for you. What You'll Take Away from This Episode:
Many people reach for a glass of wine or beer to unwind, but rarely consider the silent damage happening inside their bodies. Alcohol isn't just a social ritual, it's one of the top five causes of chronic disease worldwide. In this episode, I'll break down the risks of alcohol consumption, both short-term and long-term. When you eliminate alcohol, you'll experience remarkable transformations like, reduced liver inflammation, improved sleep quality, enhanced mental clarity, and significantly lower cancer risk. In this episode I dive into the differences between dopamine and oxytocin and how these hormones impact our sense of fulfillment and drive. While dopamine delivers short-lived rushes of personal achievement, oxytocin fosters a deeper, sustained sense of satisfaction derived from positively impacting others. [SEGMENT 2-1] Transition polling 1 Polls, Lies, and Government Deception Folks, let me tell you something. These days, everything is polled. And I mean everything. From Trump picks to Biden's pardons, it all being polled. Now, in business, polling makes sense. Companies use it to figure out what works, what doesn't, and how to sell you more stuff. They actually need accurate data because if they screw up, you stop buying. Simple, right? But in politics? Oh, no. Polling isn't about accuracy. It's about manipulation. It's about selling a narrative. As we used to say back in the day: junk in, junk out. Garbage data goes into a system, and you get garbage results. But here's the thing—when your “product” is self-preservation, you don't care if the data is garbage. You just need it to sound good enough to fool the masses.Polls Are Propaganda Let's be real. The government, especially the Leftist version, isn't trying to serve you. It's trying to grow itself. Think about it—when's the last time you heard about a government agency getting smaller? Anyone? Exactly. The IRS grows. The EPA grows. Heck, even the Department of Education, which hasn't educated anyone since they put up the first cubicle, grows. Why? Because in government, growth equals survival. Shrink, and your budget shrinks. Shrink too much, and people realize, “Hey, maybe we don't actually need this agency at all.” So, what do they do? They fund studies—using your tax dollars, by the way—that magically “prove” we need more government intervention. It's a beautiful little racket.Crazy Polls and Crazier Policies Let's talk about some of the insanity polls have been used to justify. Take the border. A recent Gallup poll showed 81% of Americans want increased border security. That's a bipartisan majority, folks. But what did Biden's administration do? They doubled down on open-border policies. And then they sent Mayorkas out to tell us, with a straight face, “The border is secure.” Secure for who? Cartels? Human traffickers? Or how about student loan forgiveness? Sure, there's a slice of Americans who love the idea—namely, the ones holding the loans. But the other 65% of Americans without student debt? They weren't exactly thrilled about footing the bill. Polls showed a lot of them opposed the plan, but Biden didn't care. The narrative was already set: “Americans want this!” Yeah, sure they do. [SEGMENT 2-2] Transition polling 2 When Polls Get It Spectacularly Wrong And then there are the polls that are so off-base, they're hilarious. Remember Professor Alan Lichtman? He's the “guru” who's supposed to predict elections with pinpoint accuracy. This guy predicted Kamala Harris would win in a landslide. Kamala. Harris. Folks, Kamala couldn't win a game of checkers in her own party. Lichtman wasn't just wrong; he was epically wrong. And his response? “I need to review my methodology.” No kidding, professor. Maybe start by asking someone who's been outside a university faculty lounge in the past decade.Experts: The Government's Favorite Cheerleaders Let's not forget the “experts” these polls prop up. Dr. Fauci, Robert Mueller, James Comey—names we were told to trust. Fauci was “America's doctor.” Mueller was “the epitome of justice.” Comey? “The last honest man in Washington.” What a load of nonsense. Fauci's COVID guidance flipped more often than a gymnast at the Olympics. Mueller's investigation was a political sideshow with no elephants, just clowns. And Comey? The guy ran the FBI like it was his personal PR firm. These weren't experts; they were figureheads for a system that lies to you while patting itself on the back.Polls as Psyops Here's the thing about polls—they're not about informing you. They're about influencing you. Take COVID and the vaccines. Early polls claimed Americans were lining up in droves to get vaccinated. But dig a little deeper, and you'd find a huge portion of the population was hesitant. Did the government address that with transparency or facts? Nope. They rolled out TikTok dancers and Krispy Kreme giveaways. Because nothing says “scientific credibility” like free donuts. What to Expect As Trump gears up for 2024, you can bet the polling games will ramp up. Pollsters will try to convince you that Americans want more Biden policies—despite the evidence literally punching us in the face. They'll claim inflation is “transitory.” That the economy is “strong.” That the border is “secure.” But here's the truth: Trump's policies work. His agenda isn't about propping up the system; it's about solving real problems. And that terrifies the establishment. Because a system that feeds on chaos and lies can't survive in a world built on results and accountability. My Challenge to You So, folks, here's my advice. Stay skeptical. Whenever you see a poll claiming 90% of Americans want some insane policy, ask yourself two questions: Who funded this poll? And what are they trying to sell me? Because at the end of the day, polls don't reflect reality—they're designed to shape it. And if we're not careful, we'll end up living in a world created not by truth, but by lies dressed up as “data.” [SEGMENT 2-3] Transition polling 3 - Hegseth Pete Hegseth: The Latest Target of Political Character Assassination? Of all Donald Trump's appointments, the one I find least intriguing is Pete Hegseth. Yes, the man is an accomplished Army veteran and former Fox News host, but I've had my reservations. Having co-hosted Fox & Friends Weekend with him, I found him to be a bit… full of himself. Granted, this is not a disqualification for public service (or television, for that matter). But let's just say he seemed more interested in basking in the glow of young producers' admiration than in rolling up his sleeves. To be fair, my personal impressions don't define the man or his qualifications. What does interest me, however, is the political circus surrounding Hegseth's recent nomination as Secretary of Defense by President-elect Trump. The Democrats and their media allies have wasted no time dredging up allegations, including accusations of serial adultery, on-the-job drinking, and even rape. These accusations should be taken seriously, of course—but so too should the timing and tactics behind their release. The parallels to other cases of high-profile character assassination are hard to ignore. The Rape Allegation: What We Know The most serious allegation stems from an incident in 2017, when Hegseth was accused of raping a woman at a hotel in Monterey, California. According to reports, the alleged assault occurred after Hegseth spoke at a Republican convention. The woman filed a police report, but no charges were ever brought against him. Fast forward to today: Hegseth reportedly reached a financial settlement with the accuser, accompanied by a confidentiality agreement. However, according to his attorney, Tim Parlatore, the woman herself voided the agreement and has been free to speak publicly. [X] SB – CNN Caitlin Collins Extortion Why not go to the police at the time. Rises to the level of criminal extortion Civil extortion; violation of the agreement, if he's not confirmed [SEGMENT 2-4] Transition polling 4 [X] SB – CNN Caitlin Collins shocked to learn that Hegseth accuser can speak out The timing is, of course, curious. Why now? Why bring these allegations into the spotlight just as Hegseth is poised to take on one of the most significant roles in government? The answer is painfully obvious: this is standard Democratic operating procedure.A Familiar Playbook If this sounds like déjà vu, that's because it is. Democrats have perfected the art of weaponizing accusations—often decades old—to derail their political opponents. Think Brett Kavanaugh. Think Clarence Thomas. The strategy is as old as Roman political intrigue: assassinate the character, and the man will fall with it. Let's not forget the broader context of Trump's nominations. The Left's outrage machine has not spared a single appointee, especially for roles as significant as Secretary of Defense. Victor Davis Hanson recently highlighted the abysmal tenure of current Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, whose tenure has been marred by a chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, divisive diversity initiatives, and a military recruitment crisis. If a baboon were nominated to replace Austin, it might actually perform better. But Hegseth? While perhaps not the most conventional choice, he is at least a decorated veteran with firsthand experience of the military's challenges. Compare that to Austin, who has prioritized wokeness over warfare, and the contrast is striking. A Broader Issue: Character Assassination as Political Strategy The Hegseth saga is emblematic of a larger problem in American politics: the increasing reliance on personal destruction as a tool for political gain. This isn't about justice or accountability; it's about humiliation and power. Take the tactic of dredging up past allegations, whether true or not, at precisely the moment someone is poised to ascend to a position of prominence. This isn't justice—it's blackmail by another name. And it's a dangerous precedent. Hegseth's alleged actions, if true, should of course be subject to scrutiny. But the selective timing and framing of these allegations suggest something more sinister. It's not about finding the truth—it's about ensuring that certain truths never see the light of day.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-kevin-jackson-show--2896352/support.
Hey everyone, welcome to another episode of the Small Town Entrepreneur Podcast. Today, I want to talk about something I've personally struggled with for a long time—finding meaning in those everyday tasks that feel so mundane, repetitive, or even frustrating. Whether it's washing the dishes, answering emails, or rocking your little one to sleep for what feels like forever, these tasks can take up so much of our day. They can feel like time-fillers, but I've learned (the hard way!) that there's so much more to these small moments than we realize. In this episode, I'll be sharing how you can reframe those repetitive tasks and start to see them as opportunities for creativity, inspiration, and even moments of peace. By the end of this episode, I hope you'll walk away with one or two ideas on how to bring more meaning into your daily routines. Key Takeaways: When we shift our mindset around daily tasks, we can unlock new perspectives and creativity in ways we never expected. It's in the quiet, seemingly boring moments that we can often find the greatest clarity and inspiration. Intentionally slowing down during routine tasks can not only reduce stress but also help us connect to our larger purpose. My Challenge to You: This week, I want you to choose just one task that you usually rush through—maybe it's your commute, cleaning up around the house, or sending emails—and instead, slow down. Be present. Take a moment to just breathe and reflect. See what new thoughts or ideas pop up, and how it feels to approach these moments with more intention. If you try it, I'd love to hear how it goes! Leave a review or comment, and don't forget to subscribe so we can keep diving into these topics together. The B-Word with Joanne Bolt. Real Life | Real Business | Real Success for Women in Real Estate
In this episodeReal Estate agents are notorious for blowing off vacation time. Or taking one at the last minute when we feel we have time. Is that a good strategy to take in your career or are you setting yourself up for burnout and overwhelm?I'll give it to you real. Deciding on vacation at the last minute is a disaster waiting to happen. Don't be the agent that leans over the beach balcony taking calls all morning while her kids are playing in the surf. You'll regret it later in life. There are 5 pillars of topics I discuss often here on the B-Word and Self Care if one of them. Save this episode when you need to come back and ensure yourself that YES. “Child-rearing provisions” - Money Monday with Shawna McCrea of Balance Financial If you took time off from work or worked less to look after your young children (up to age 7), you may be able to increase the amount of your CPP retirement pension and other CPP benefits with the child-rearing provisions. “$1200 RESP BC Grant” - Money Monday with Shawna McCrea of Balance Financial Do you have a child or know someone that has a child between the age of 6 and 9? Families in British Columbia are encouraged to start planning and saving early for their children's post-secondary education or training programs. To help, the B.C. Government will contribute $1,200 to eligible children through the B.C. Training and Education Savings Grant (BCTESG). As you know I am a big fan of RESPs. I have talked to too many people that struggle with paying back their student loans - they often carry them for years. If your child doesn't go to school that's okay you can always get the principle back and you can transfer the market gains to your RSP. I am also an advocate to borrow only for a home and nothing else. “Divorce and your money” - Money Monday with Shawna McCrea of Balance Financial I deal with so many people that are going through a separation or divorce, especially lately. I know it is such a tough and challenging time when it comes to your money. Who gets what? can I stay in the house? how do I protect myself? It will make a real difference if your separation is going to amicable or contentious. Emotions can play a big role in the negotiation process. You may want to freeze your joint assets and liabilities if you are afraid that your partner would fully draw them down. I see some couples choose to stay together in the same house because they can't afford two separate homes. The court not the spouse decides on division. Should you consider counselling to help you? Download the Grant Writer FAST Focus Workbook at www.teresahuff.com/fastfocus. Who Am I to Be a Grant Writer? Welcome back to this special Podcast Power Series, Grant Writer FAST Focus. This week I'm going to help you develop the confidence and clarity you need to start your grant writing career. Should You Try Grant Writing? Many new grant writers are paralyzed by the question, “Where do I start?” Even if they have some nonprofit experience, they still battle imposter syndrome. However, I talk to so many talented people with great experience who are passionate about their nonprofit work. /some have even written grants before – and they still don't think they have what it takes to be a grant writer. They think, “Who would want to work with me? Should I just work for free to get some experience? What do I have to offer a nonprofit?” Let's Change the Script I want to challenge you to shift your mindset around this. You probably already have a lot of valuable skills that can really help your community. You have some God-given abilities that make you unique. You need to show up with those. But until you realize that and get out of your own way, you won't be able to use them effectively. Let's change that. The world needs you out there making a difference. The Fast Track to Grant Writer group program and my 1:1 coaching go deep into this, and this is exactly what I help my clients with. I created this free power series for you on the podcast to help you get started and, more than anything, believe that it IS possible for you and to see how you can start to put those pieces together. Hang with me this week, because over the next 4 days we're going to talk about the mindset shifts AND practical strategies you need to believe that you can be a good grant writer. How Is This Different? Lots of programs tell you how to write a grant. Lots of programs tell you how to set up a business. That's where people get stuck, because most programs don't teach you how to write the grant AND set up your grant writing career for success. That's how it's different when we work together, and that's exactly what we do inside the Fast Track to Grant Writer. Fast Track Alum Lisa said, "I appreciate the ways you are showing us we can help non-profits. There are many nuggets we can incorporate into consulting that I hadn't previously considered." My Challenge to You If you're struggling with the question of, "Who am I to be a grant writer?" I want you to flip the script and instead ask, “Who am I NOT to be a grant writer?” Todd Henry, host of The Accidental Creative Podcast, said, “The key is to push forward, not allow yourself to get stuck, so your body of work reflects your best attributes, not your biggest fears.” Grant Writer Power Series Be on the lookout this week, because every day for 4 days in a row a new episode in this power series is going to drop. These episodes are short because I don't want you to get caught up in the weeds of self-doubt. I'm calling it a power series for a reason - instead of overwhelming you with a bunch of information, I want you to focus on one powerful action step each day. Listen in to the full episode for today's lesson and homework assignment. Then download the workbook at www.teresahuff.com/fastfocus and let's get you moving forward! Recently, a colleague shared that while she was looking through job postings, she found the following verbiage on a job post that said, "Research shows that men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria required, while women and other marginalized folx often apply only when they fit every single item. If you believe you could excel in this role, but don't meet every single criteria, please get in touch anyway." She went on to say how reading this inspired her, not only to submit her application for the position but how it also inspired her to double down on her efforts to grow her business, which is currently inside 'hustle' status. Today, I want to talk to you about how you, too, may be self-limiting purely on the belief that you must meet all criteria required in order to be a successful business owner. And spoiler alert! Today we have a solo episode where I cover one of the most important topics of becoming successful, learning. I talk about how important learning is, why you should never stop learning, and the biggest mistake I see young entrepreneurs making when it comes to learning. One of the biggest misconceptions entrepreneurs have is that once you have a business, you can just keep growing it with what you already know. In most cases it doesn't work like that, you have to acquire the knowledge to grow whether it be from books, videos, courses, or other investments. The BIG Takeaways From This Episode: Preface [1:19] The Biggest Mistake People Make in Business [3:25] Something I Recently Realized [4:05] Why You Shouldn't Stop Learning Just Because You've Been Successful [4:57] What I've Gained From Going Back to the Books [5:52] My Challenge to You Guys [7:24] Memorable Quotes: “We take actions and what we do every day is based on what we know.” (Parikchhit Basnet) “Stay in the middle, be the person that takes a lot of action, but also takes the time out of their day to learn.” (Parikchhit Basnet) “There is always something to learn every day and every day something you learn can change your whole life. ” (Parikchhit Basnet) “What got you here, won't get you to the next level.” (Parikchhit Basnet) “The ones that are growing, are always learning and always asking questions instead of letting their ego get the best of them.” (Parikchhit Basnet) How To Keep The Momentum Going: Self-education is the key to continued growth in life and in business. If you truly want to get better at something or level up your business, you need to acquire the knowledge it takes to get to that next level. You can't expect to level up only using what you already know otherwise you'd be there already. The more you can educate yourself, the more likely you are to succeed in all aspects of your life. You need to know this - relationship building with your prospects is not enough. Since I shared the LOVE, SERVE, GROW framework, where I teach everybody to focus on loving and serving before recruiting, I’ve been hearing a lot of people say that they are already serving their prospects with love, but it is still not producing any results. Here’s WHY: You’re spending all of your time just in relationship building mode. You need to go to the NEXT LEVEL. And you go ‘next level’ by adding value to people's lives. HOW? Share the things that you've learned in your journey - as an entrepreneur or as a leader. If you start sharing the golden nuggets and wisdom you’ve learned, and these things help people improve their own lives, you will absolutely start seeing better results. My CHALLENGE for you: The next time you follow up with a prospect and have relationship building as the focus, have a plan. Don’t just make idle chitchat. I want you to go live or reach out to people. If you read a book or learn something in a podcast, share it with your prospects. Here’s the thing, when people get value from you, you become more valuable to them.

Welcome back to The Refined Collective podcast! Did you notice our new intro music? We’re so excited about it. On this first solo show of the new year, I’m chatting about all of the lessons I learned in 2019 (because it taught me some big lessons), my vision for 2020, and of course before I do all of that I share all of my favorite pop culture tidbits with you! Lessons Learned Comparison sucks. My Challenge to You: What if you used someone else’s breakthrough as evidence of what’s possible as opposed to getting stuck in comparison, jealousy, and a victim mentality? How would doing that impact your life? Celebrate your wins. Life is busy. Often before we finish the one thing, we’re already chasing the next. I don’t know about you, but this feels exhausting. What if before rushing off to the next goal, we allowed ourselves to pause, acknowledge, and celebrate the wins—no matter how big or small. I can only change me. Much to my dismay as much as I try to change others, the only person I can truly change and take responsibility for is myself. Instead of spending so much time focusing on other people’s drama, what if you used that time to look inward, and noticed areas in your own life that needed some extra love? God lives in the space between. Life is a “both and,” not an “either or.” 2020 Vision (Get it? 2020 vision? 20/20 vision?) What if you had the courage to receive and believe that you deserved to be here? What if you were the girl for the job? What if you no longer let insecurity dictate your reality? I spent too long believing I didn’t belong on the tennis court or I didn’t belong as a writer. But guess what? I’m writing a freaking book. And then I’m going to write ANOTHER one. My new mantra: “Why not me?” Thank you Mindy Kaling for that. What if you spent more time thinking about how things could go well for you instead of always planning for and expecting the worst case scenario to unfold? How would your day-to-day life change? What do you know about intuitive movement? I would be honored to share some ways I'm currently exploring (and experimenting with) intuitive movement in my own life lately! This includes differentiating between movement and exercise, as well as some of the struggles I've personally encountered in this area. Movement vs. Exercise Personally, I feel like "exercise" has a lot of attachments. We think of changing our appearance, reducing our size, working up a sweat, or burning calories. Movement, however, is just about...moving! You can do anything active that you enjoy, you can do simple things (like taking the stairs), and it's all considered movement. Doesn't that sound so much less stressful? Instead of stressing about appearance (and how my workouts are going to "change me"), now I show up fully and trust that taking part in healthy movement is going to feel good. And at the end of the day, it's the feeling good that I genuinely value. An exercise mindset can also push us into moving way too much. We exhaust or overwhelm our bodies, then compensate by consuming a lot of food just to keep ourselves moving. I have a number of clients that end up discovering that less "working out" and more intuitive movement that actually feels GOOD makes a huge difference in their lives. A Big Waste of Time I would never have gone to a "slow" yoga class when I was in my workout phase. After all, if I wasn't vigorously moving, exhausted, dripping with sweat, or feeling sore afterwards...I hadn't really done anything. I thought it was just a big waste of time. Thank goodness I finally realized that my perceptions couldn't be more wrong! Even before I started intuitive eating, I started to realize that I could actually enjoy moving my body. When I started yoga, I loved that it didn't have to be about changing how I looked. It cleared my mind, it made me feel good, and it eventually brought me into yoga teacher training and body awareness. Movement is what brought me to intuitive eating, and now I move intuitively as well. It is seriously the best feeling. Another note - just because it's not a huge block of "exercise" time doesn't mean it's a waste of time. Some of my perfectionist clients have a lot of trouble embracing movement for the simple enjoyment factor. It can be hard to embrace 5-10 minutes of enjoyable movement when you've grown up feeling like you have to dedicate an hour if you want it to really "count". Community Movement Lately I've been attending a Zumba workout in my community center. It has been so much fun, and an amazing way Saturdays I found a momma workout class -- mom's workout, and our toddlers run around, ride bikes, and enjoy the sunshine. Afterwards, my son and I have a little date together at a local shop. When I was doing intense exercise workouts, I tended to dread them. I would drag myself there, do the work, and then go home and collapse on the coach. Now I get excited about interacting with my community, I love heading out the door to class, and I come home feeling energetic and good. Practicing intuitive movement in my community is so much better for me than punishing myself with exercise. Flexible Planning I like to set a plan for the week...and then wake up and determine if that feels right for me. Somedays it isn't wise to push yourself physically, emotionally, or mentally, and if there is a way to reorganize your schedule, you should! Movement can fall into this category as well. If I thought I was going to go to Zumba, and I realize what I really need is some quiet introspective time, I might decide to take a walk instead. Or if I had intended to go for a bike ride but the weather isn't suitable, I can switch it up and head to a yoga class. Rather than making a rigid plan and forcing my mind and body to make it happen, I leave room so I can make decisions that will help me feel my best, whatever that looks like. (Remember - there is no wrong way!) Do What Feels Good If you could move your body in any way, with NO worries about appearance or weight, what would you do? I had a client who loved swimming...but she didn't allow herself to go because it meant wearing a swimsuit in front of others. When she released that fear and just did it, she loved it! What kind of movement have you held yourself back from that you could you do today? If you haven't been moving much lately, you might look for small ways to start! Look for 5-10 minutes that you could do something - take quick walk, do some gentle yoga stretches, work in your garden, or do something that would be quick, easy, and enjoyable. If you're on the verge of exercise burnout, ask yourself what you can release this week. How can you start to scale back a bit and honor your body's needs? My Challenge to You Choose ONE thing that you're going to change this week, and then do it! If you need some accountability, head on over to the private Facebook group and share it with us! We'd love to help hold you accountable. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/realfoodfirstcommunity/) Remember that this is meant to be intuitive - make a plan, but be flexible with it. And if there is a type of movement that is hard in the moment, but makes you feel really good afterwards (burpees are mine!), don't be afraid to do them! Just be sure to check in with yourself so you can make decisions about what you want and what will feel right on any given day. AND.... You requested another Food Freedom Holiday Workshop, and it's coming on Nov. 24th! You can sign up at caitlinball.com/holidayworkshop. (Can't make it? The replay will available whenever you have the time!) Rather than stuffing yourself silly with food, cookies, and alcohol (then feeling gross and crabby all day), learn how to relax and ENJOY the holidays!

One thing you can do to grow a podcast substantially faster is to COPY others that have done it…. I’m a fan of copying and stealing. Not maliciously of course, but the concept of modeling and adapting stuff. I’ve done it all my life. Podcasting is no different, look at what is working then see how you can spin off a similar concept that works. Today, I’ve done one. Guess and do it. Find out if it works for you :) MY CHALLENGE. While starting something is one of the hardest things some people encounter, for others, it's the opposite - how to stop doing something. Putting a stop to something you're doing is especially hard for entrepreneurs. One reason to stop is that that something is no longer working. Another may be that the need to change the way some things are being done to increase productivity, revenue, or energy. In this episode, I talk about when it's time to stop doing something - not only in business but also in your personal life. I share stories of how I was able to stop doing things that were no longer good for my business, my health, or my life. I also share strategies you can use to identify when it's time to stop or change the way you're doing things and how it can impact your productivity, health, and well-being. “You've got to listen to your mind, to your body about when it's time to stop doing something or change it up radically.” - Sigrun In This Episode of The Sigrun Show: Why you may want to stop doing something The story of my 30-year addiction to Coca-cola The turning point that made me decide to quit drinking Coca-cola The concept of sunk costs in business and how to avoid it Why you shouldn't be attached to the investment you've made Why I stopped doing regular webinars When it's time to rethink your strategy even if it has worked for you in the past What ‘bonusodes' are and why I'm changing the frequency of my episodes My Challenge for You: What do you want to stop doing in your business? We all have beginnings that got us to where we are today. The decisions we make and the people we have become are all results of our childhood experiences, lessons along the way, and the influencers in our lives. These experiences, when compiled and shared with the world, can have tremendous abilities to encourage, give hope, and inspire. In this episode, I share my review of Michelle Obama's book Becoming and why it's one of the best audiobooks I have listened to. I discuss how the book moved me as I learned about Michelle's humble beginnings before she became the First Lady of the United States as well as how her vivid descriptions of the different settings in the book can make readers feel like they are part of her story. I also share how her narrative as a working mother is an excellent source of inspiration for women who doubt themselves as well as what she did and how she felt after leaving the White House when her husband's term as US president ended. “It's good that Michelle Obama talks about being a working mother and can inspire more women to go after their dreams.” - Sigrun In This Episode of The Sigrun Show: Why I went to the Inbound Event in Boston in 2018 What to do if you're a fan of someone who has written a book and accepts speaking engagements The inspiring truth that you don't need to be rich to be a president of a country The difference in the book writing approach between Michelle and former US President Barack Obama What makes Michelle's book Becoming so special How Michelle found and pursued her passion projects Who gave Michelle a different perspective as she grew up in a different and challenging environment The fascinating language used in her book that had Michelle criticized as a black woman Resource Mentioned: Becoming by Michelle Obama My Challenge for You: Share how you like Becoming by Michelle Obama. As entrepreneurs, we are frequently encouraged and advised to set big, hairy, audacious goals (BHAGs). But what does that really mean and how do you achieve those goals when they seem so far-fetched and unattainable? What value can setting long-term, seemingly unattainable goals have for your business? I explain what a big, hairy, audacious goal is and why entrepreneurs need to set big goals even when they feel unattainable. I share how setting big goals can inspire you to grow your business and build your team's spirit. I also share how setting big, hairy, audacious goals has impacted my business - and my life - and how achieving those goals can impact your confidence and ability to achieve great success. “You need big, hairy, audacious goals to achieve great success. It doesn't happen without goals.” - Sigrun In This Episode of The Sigrun Show: What it means to set big, hairy, audacious goals How being signed up for a marathon fueled my ambition to train and complete the run - even with asthma How taking small steps helped me achieve my big goals How setting and achieving BHAGs impacts your confidence My first big, hairy, audacious goal for my business How publicly sharing your audacious goals gives you the fuel to accomplish them My next big, hairy, audacious goal How learning from past mistakes and failures makes you more determined to achieve your goals Resources Mentioned: Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies by Jim Collins and Jerry Porras My Challenge for You: Share your big, hairy, audacious goals! Act like a teenage and think like a dyslexic. Education and the internet are great equalisers - as Enterprise sales people always learn and adapt. Focus on the big picture - seek patterns. Be curious - gain multiple reliable sources. Get outside own comfort zone. Treat every customer and every encounter as an opportunity to gather date and learn. Look for industry disruptors to identify market gaps. What are the common themes bubbling under and compare to date you have gathered. Have courage to share your concerns and have healthy debates. Be a modern leader - connect with your team at an emotional level. My Challenge to you: How can you apply these insights to your way of working?

This week, Mike talks to the redheaded wonder “Steph The Crab”, about their passions and the amount of effort & commitment it takes to keep actively pursuing hobbies, they then delve into a fairly long discussion about sex, masturbation, stigmas surrounding sex (and talking about it), along with communication with partners, sexual confidence and even child development affecting sexuality (with a touch of Sigmund Freud’s ideas). They finish off by talking about Steph’s connections to the YouTube channel “Dude Where’s My Challenge”, described by Mike as “Jackass Of YouTube”! What If... Imagine the unthinkable has happened... you've come home from a business trip to find that your family has been kidnapped. There was a ransom note left on the dinning room table that demanded you come up with one million dollars in 3 months if you ever wanted to see your family again. The shock leaves you slumped on the coach in a cold sweat. The room is spinning and you feel yourself hyperventilating. After a few minutes you start taking some deep breaths to calm yourself and you immediately find ideas coming to mind of how you can make the money. It's amazing how creative you are now that your family's future is on the line. Simultaneously you're playing back a meeting you had with your coach 2 weeks ago where you were coming up with every reason under the sun why you couldn't make a hundred thousand dollars that year. My friends, this story illustrates the massive power behind having a compelling why. Without a compelling why you will submit to excuses. But, with an undeniable why you will find a way to overcome any challenge or mindset! The Truth About Goals The reality is that if setting and crushing goals was easy, everyone would be doing it. But going after big, hairy, audacious goals requires us to tackle our fears, to face off against our limiting mindsets, and to play a bigger game than we have ever played before. The road is full of challenges, failure and setbacks. Without a stirring why, you'll never go the distance. New Years Resolutions This is why so many New Years resolutions simply fade after just 3 days to 3 weeks. They resolutions were simply 'nice to's' and 'should do's'. And those are hardly going to inspire you to keep going during the bumpy ride of goal fulfilment. When I question many of my clients around the why of their financial goals, many don't have a compelling why. It is simply a vanity metric, a 'nice to' or 'should do'. No wonder so many of us don't crush the goals we set! My Challenge to You So my challenge to you is a simple one... do your goals have a compelling why? If not, get it! (and I'll help you find your why in the next show) Connect Leave a comment and let me know what you thought. I'm also available to answer any questions you may have on today's topic. The 4 Pillars of Happiness So many people today are running after happiness and feel stuck on a hamster wheel, where they are running with tremendous effort but are getting nowhere. I believe that this is because we've started with the wrong definition of happiness. We believe that if we can have more money (and just a little more) then we'll be satisfied. I suppose this is why the richest man in modern history (he was a billionaire in the early 1900's), Rockefeller, when asked by a reporter "How much money is enough?" replied saying, "Just a little more." And along with our money we believe that if we can amass enough stuff, enough possessions, that they will bring us joy. But we've all experienced the initial thrill of buying something only to have that excitement dissipate quickly and eventually that purchase just ends up as more clutter in our lives. And so we try and fill the void with becoming successful or at least by obtaining some measure of fame... even if it is just for a fleeting moment on social media. A New Definition (Or An Old One) I really believe that the ancients had a much better understanding of happiness and how to achieve it. Aristotle defined happiness as 'human flourishing' and the ancient Greeks defined it as 'the joy you feel moving towards your potential'. I believe that we can achieve happiness through connection and growth. There has been a lot of scientific research into happiness (see Shawn Achor's book 'The Happiness Advantage') which has revealed 4 key pillars to achieving happiness. So let's take a look at each of the 4 pillars. Connect Deeply Isn't it crazy that in our modern society, that while we might be surrounded by more people (10's of 1000s, even millions more) that we have become more disconnected and lonelier? In fact, the pandemic of our age is the disease of loneliness! While we may have hundreds of 'friends' on FaceBook and other social media platforms, we're lonely. Social media is a place to put on masks, to show off how great life is for us... not where we take off the masks and invite people to truly connect with us on an intimate level. True connection is where we invite people into intimacy with us. Into in-to-me-see. It's a place of great vulnerability as we allow others to see our flaws and failures, our shadow selves (the darker side of us) ... but it is also the place of true freedom. There is nothing more freeing than taking off your mask, revealing your flaws and being accepted and loved, warts and all! Be Positive It just stands to reason that if we're going to lead a life of happiness that we need to be positive. And for those who have always seen the glass as half empty this can be challenging. Now, when I say positive, I'm not talking about being one of those people who live in La-La Land and pretend everything is sunshine and roses all the time. I'm just talking about a way of viewing life that takes in reality but seeks to make lemonade out of the lemons that get tossed your way. Life is all about mindsets, and we can change our mindsets! One of the best ways to develop your positivity is to practice grattitude. I am naturally a very positive person, but even I have found the practice of gratitude to be a game changer. And trust me, during those challenging times, this practice will be an anchor for you! I encourage you to get a blank journal where you can write down the following each day: 3 things that you're grateful for about your personal life 3 things that you're grateful for in your value exchange (work) life 3 things that you're grateful for about yourself 1 thing that you're grateful for about each of those who are closest to you If writing isn't your thing, then at least mentally go through this list daily. Be Curious Watching babies and toddlers lets you realise that we all are born with an innate sense of curiosity. But somewhere along the line we tend to lose that curiosity, especially as the speed of life increases. But in our break neck speed of life, we tend to miss out all sorts of opportunities and serendipity that are happening all around us. And we simply get stuck in a certain groove. This leads to more of the same and boredom. It means that we never break out of our patterns and experience the joy of all the serendipity that is waiting to meet us. I believe that one of the best practices to keep us curious and slow us down enough to look for opportunity and serendipity as we move through the world is to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness meditation has become more mainstream but many people still have meditation in the woo-woo box. To be honest, that was me for the longest time. What brought me around was that I kept hearing from successful people in all spheres of life, that meditation was one of their keystone habits that led them to become successful. Well, my curiosity got the better of me and I deep dived into meditation. And what I found was a beautiful practice... without the woo-woo. In fact, in 2015, I wrote and published a book on Amazon called, 'Meditation for Beginners, Without the Woo-Woo'. It is a great short read (I know, what a shameless plug!) that will give you the right mindset and skills to succeed in your meditation journey. Do yourself a favour and get it on Amazon. Its just a few bucks, but it will be one the purchases you make this year that you'll be the most thankful for. Grow After It This fourth pillar of happiness is what the next 6 weeks of the podcast will be devoted to. We come alive when we pursue meaningful life goals. In fact, in the next episode of the podcast we will see that we were designed to be stretched! My Challenge to You So now you know the 4 pillars to happiness. The question now is what will you do with this knowledge? I challenge you to create the habits and routines in your week that will make sure that you are connecting deeply, practicing gratitude and mindfulness and pursuing goals that matter. In fact, I'd encourage you right now to calendar time for these 4 practices for the next month. I also want to encourage you to share this episode with others. The journey is always better together! Whether you are running a business or running a marathon, high-performance is a critical skill to have in order to “finish the race.” As many of my wonderful listeners already know, I am a huge fan of high-performing women, athletes, entrepreneurs, and business executives. However, throughout my coaching experience, I often see many women that have the potential to be high performers, but somehow fail to unlock that potential – leaving it on the table. Today, I share with you four critical psychological skills that all high-performers must have and master in order to achieve success in life, business, and sports. Unless you’re living a high-performance lifestyle in business and life, you are leaving potential on the table. My Challenge for You: Think about what would be possible if you could unlock 15% more potential without creating more time in a day or upgrading your skills. Think about what would be possible for humanity if everyone could unlock 15% more of their Think about how the whirlwind of your life is affecting your ability to achieve your wildly important goals. The 4 Critical Psychological Skills of High-Performers: Focus Focus to work through the whirlwind. Visualization Visualize the “end game” and what steps you need to take to achieve it. Setting Effective Goals Drastically narrow your focus down. Set smaller goals to achieve the W.I.G. Dealing with Distractions Learn how to say a powerful “no” to stay on track with your vision and goals. When you unlock your capacity by 10, 15, 20 percent – think about what is going to be possible for your family, the people you love, and humanity as a whole. Book Recommendation: I highly recommend checking out Annette Verschuren’s new book, “Bet On Me,” an inspiring book on Annette’s philosophy on what it takes to be a highly successful leader. Do you get frustrated at how long things are taking? Do you think things should be much easier? As a coach, I notice impatience is normal among fierce feminine leaders, so rest assured you’re not alone. Possessing and bringing a sense of urgency to your business is a positive step but it can go the opposite way where your impatience causes you to resist embracing a high level of performance. Years ago, I had the opportunity to interview Stanford University psychologist Dr. Carol Dweck who is the author of the book Mindset which is like a bible to me in my coaching practice. Her book pinpoints two type of mindsets, fixed and growth, and how we use these attitudes to either move forward or keep us back from realizing our goals. So, on today’s episode, I’ll talk about fixed and growth mindset so you understand what may be keeping you back from your goals. Our attitudes are not set in stone, and many intelligent and competitive women break out of their negative mindsets to achieve success no matter how long it takes. Here’s a Breakdown of Today’s Show: I’ll tell you about what the fixed mindset does that may hold you back in your business or career pursuits. When you’re in a growth mindset, you are open to learning, and there’s no stopping how far you can go to see success. I’ll tell you about what happens when you focus on how long something will take you. I address those who get discouraged by the length of time it takes to get to their goals. My Challenge to You: Get in the zone; you have to flip the switch so that you see that the length of time it takes to see success is a path to mastery and not something you’re doing wrong. Focus on the ground you cover in your pursuit of achievement instead of focusing on how long it takes to get to your destination. I speak with countless Fierce Feminine Leaders every day. These are highly successful, motivated, driven women with great achievements under their belt, but often feel stuck in whatever it is they are doing. They may be unhappy because they want to achieve greater things; they yearn for something more, something different, something meaningful, but they struggle with making the decision to go after what they want. Ladies, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – we give our power away when we avoid making decisions. On today’s episode, I want to talk to you about how to get “unstuck” in your life, your business, your career. I want to help you move past whatever is holding you back, whatever has you feeling stuck. I want to empower you to determine what it is that is holding you back, and figure out how to get out of the quicksand that is limiting your sense of success. Areas where women often give their power away: Deciding to start a side business Deciding to pivot their business into a new area Deciding to invest in a new training program Deciding to take a sabbatical Deciding to go on a trip or on vacation Deciding to recommit to their health Deciding to train for a marathon Take a look at where you’re making decisions – or not making decisions. Then, close the loops. – Eleanor Beaton Ask Yourself: Where in my life right now am I not making decisions? What do I really want? What limiting beliefs or mental thoughts do I need to declutter, let go of, and close the loop on? My Challenge to You: Get quiet with yourself Think about where in your life you are not making decisions or avoiding making decisions Get out there and make a decision around it. The quality of your life and your experience is directly connected to your willingness to make decisions – and own them! Love the show? Let us know! Last week I realized something: I am not as flexible as I thought. I always thought that I'm better than average person, but all that sitting and running has done it's job. This and next month, my goal is to get into the routine of stretching and by doing that, increase flexibility in my body. I know parenting with grace is the “right” choice. However. . .when the house is a wreck and the boys are fighting and dinner's on the stove? Grace doesn't come easily. But then I get a pep talk from, Jeannie Cunnion (author of “Parenting the Wholehearted Child”). Jeannie always reminds me of the gospel. She reminds me who I am in Christ, so I can come alongside my kids and do the same. In this episode Jeannie and I spend time chatting about a recent article she wrote over at FoxNews (link below). She encourages us to ask our kids an important question. Engaging them in a conversation about what makes us lovable. Personally, my day went so much better after we talked. I'm confident the same will be true for you. I recently wrote here on the blog about some new productivity “tweaks” with which I have been experimenting. Today's podcast is a report on the results. In this week's podcast episode: A “field report” on my latest productivity experiments. An alternative to mindmaps. How to get free of those “guilty feelings”. Stu McLaren on hiring the right people. Tip Of The Week Not into mind mapping, but wish there was an easy way to outline your ideas? You have got to try Workflowy. It was made for the purpose. Spiritual Foundations Are you plagued by feelings of guilt, about regrets over what you should have done in a certain situation? Don't be… There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2 When Jesus came and paid the price for sin, that included all of our sins. Past, present, and future. That means is far as he is concerned, we have nothing to regret. A “guilty conscience” is not the work of our father in heaven, but is the work of the enemy-the devil. See Hebrews 9:14. Lifestyle Business Stu McLaren has wisdom to share on the subject of hiring-and on not being cheap. Feature Segment: Results of My Productivity Experiments Recently, I wrote on my blog a post about a new plan for improved productivity in 2013. I thought it might be useful to share the results so far. Works and all. Here are the plans I wrote about, and a report on my observations Productivity Philosophy. If you are not familiar with the GTD philosophy, I encourage you to read David Allen's seminal work on stress-free productivity. A great augmentation to the GTD material is one of my favorite new podcasts and websites, Erik Fisher's “Beyond the To-Do List”. At this point, I would give myself a “brown belt” when it comes to GTD. My biggest challenge is keeping my inboxes to zero, and limiting those inboxes to the smallest number possible. Planning. In keeping with my adherence to GTD, my planning is fairly simple. I have a weekly review session on Fridays, during which I collect all the inputs that have accumulated over the past week, and one by one clear them from my inbox. So far I've done a pretty good job of keeping on top of my weekly reviews. I'd say I am at about 90% on this one. Disciplined Tracking. For business activities, I am developing a dashboard for my company in Excel to keep track of key metrics. Frankly, I've gotten so caught up in looking for the perfect dashboard, I haven't really started using one yet. That will change within the next three days, as I am forcing myself to pick some kind of tracking system. Even if it is 3 x 5 cards. Productivity Tools. In the past, I have been a “tool junkie”. I have actually managed to not look at any new productivity tools since the beginning of the year. That may not sound like a big deal to you, but it's a big deal to me. Boundaries. This year, I am resolved to stick to my regimen of only answering email once a day, and the same for phone calls. I also intend to be “off the grid” three days a week for both email and phone calls. Still my biggest challenge. My name is Ray Edwards, and I am a recovering “yes man”. Guarding My Heart and Mind. Toxic thoughts and emotions destroy us. Toxic thinking limits our potential for accomplishment. Toxic emotions limit our potential for happiness and fulfillment. In the new year, I will not allow negative thinking, language, images, or emotions to pierce the boundary of my sight or hearing. While I have improved in this area, I still have work today. Have watched a couple of things on television that, in retrospect, were a bit dark and cynical and viewpoint. It isn't possible to watch things like this and walk away unaffected. Task Batching. I perform best when I batch similar tasks together and do them all at once. This is going pretty well for me, because it is exit become a habit of mine over the last few years. Focus Blocks. “Focus blocks” are clearly defined blocks of time that I use to focus on one single task. I can tell you this. It seems that making a declaration about a new habit is a surefire way to become a lightning rod for challenges and resistance to that habit. Digital Fasting. I am a digital junkie. I love Facebook, Twitter, Google+, email, RSS feeds… you get the idea. That's why it's important to me to completely unplug frequently. My goal is to be completely free of email, voice mail, and Internet consumption… 100% free… at least one day a week. I have done pretty well, but frankly no where near 100%. This Sunday, I'm shooting for 100%. Sabbath. One day each week, my intention is to be at complete rest. Same answer as the previous section. The Positive No. I mentioned earlier that it is difficult for me to say “no” to people. This year, my default response to every request made of me will be, at least initially, “no”. I had a few chances to practice this, but I still wouldn't counted as one of my core disciplines. Yet. Income Producing Activity Hours. I have identified the activities which are most likely to result in producing revenue for my company: speaking, writing, marketing and advertising, and creating new material or trainings. There are a few other income-producing activities, such as networking, sales calls, and developing JV relationships. I am creating carefully protected and intricately planned “focus blocks” for these activities. These are among the first activities to be scheduled in my calendar. This one has worked out surprisingly well so far. Writing Time. This is in my top tier of income producing activities. It is also in my top tier of spiritually fulfilling activities. Therefore, this is one of my very highest priorities, and will be one of my most protected assets in the new year. 30 Day Challenges. I love new ideas, and I love trying them out. So much so, that I have tended, in the past, to try out many different ideas in a single week. Therefore, in the new year, each month I plan to adopt one “30 Day Challenge”. A single new habit, activity, or discipline. I will post each month's 30 day challenge publicly, and at the end of the 30 days report on my experience. . Hardest one of all for me to keep. My Challenge this month was to journal daily. We're on day 16 of the month, and I've written in my journal four days My plan going forward is to become more disciplined about my new habits, and not to simply give up. That's the mistake I think most people make when it comes to resolutions, or adopting any new discipline. Special Announcements I’m attending the Platform Conference in Nashville. It is nearly sold out. The purpose of the conference: to help you “get noticed in a noisy world.” It’s being put on by Michael Hyatt and Ken Davis. My friends Stu McLaren and Carrie Wilkerson are speaking. I’m also looking forward to meeting Jeff Goins, Cliff Ravenscraft, Pat Flynn, John Saddington, Michele Cushatt, and Andrew Buckman.
