We debrief the historic Capitol Day of Action this Tuesday which called on the Governor to veto any budget that does not meet basic standards. It was organized by Citizen Action Wisconsin in partnership with Wisconsin Public Education Network, and WISDOM; and co-sponsored by: Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC), AFT-Wisconsin, WECAN, Progress North, Madison Teachers Inc, Milwaukee Teachers Education Association, Green Bay Education Association, Kenosha Education Association, Racine Education Association, and Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. 200 citizen-lobbyists met with their legislators, attended a media event with all the partner organizations, who then marched to Governor Tony Evers' office with a jointly signed letter encouraging the Governor to veto any budget from the Legislature that fails to properly fund public schools, expand BadgerCare, fund childcare, and close Green Bay Correctional and builds no new prisons. We review multi-millionaire Ron Johnson's abandonment of Wisconsin's working families by demanding even deeper cuts to Medicaid and food assistance to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. In addition, this week Johnson declared that Milwaukee Public Schools should get no help from the federal government for cleaning up lead that is poisoning our children. Johnson also rejected science and life-saving measles vaccine requirements for children. Derrick Van Orden emerged again from his bunker and started lying about his broken promise not to cut Medicaid. The Congressional Budget Office is clear that 13.6 million Americans will lose health coverage due to cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act in the House Budget Bill, with 11,000 in Van Orden's district losing Medicaid because of his vote. We encourage listeners to call or visit his office and remind him he broke his promise to voters and now he is lying. We welcome the President of SEIU Wisconsin Healthcare, Pat Raes, to discuss the historic 5 day strike at Meriter Hospital in Madison launched by nurses this week. Pat is a 35 year veteran of the hospital and tells us about why they are striking and how you can support their effort to protect the safety of their patients by fighting the corporatization of healthcare which puts profits over care.
In the third hour, Matt and Angela celebrate the courage and passion of Wisconsin legislators like Francesca Hong and Christian Phelps, who challenge both Republicans and Democrats to prioritize people over politics. Dave Zirin joins to discuss his new biography on Howard Zinn, emphasizing the importance of historical awareness in resisting authoritarianism. He critiques MLB's gambling ties and Pete Rose's Hall of Fame eligibility for moral inconsistency. The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign's 30th anniversary highlights ongoing battles against gerrymandering and money in politics. Amidst challenges, hope persists through collective action and education. BONUS! Check out THIS archive of TMI from 2014: In this week's Supreme Court ruling on McCutcheon vs FEC, we saw what many are denouncing as "the end of democracy in America" and "Citizens United on steroids" - it certainly looks bad, but what exactly happened, and what are the most likely repercussions? I'm brushed up on the issue, but I cannot match the years of campaign finance expertise of Mike McCabe, of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. He'll join us to give us a clear view of it all. Then, as if that wasn't enough electoral bad news, I'm going to go over a very strange fact: you do not have a Constitutional right to vote in America. If you think that sounds insane, you're not alone: Congressman Mark Pocan has proposed a Constitutional amendment to explicitly define that right to vote for all. But just in case you think he and I are completely off-base, we'll review exactly why we make this outrageous claim. All that and more on TMI for Saturday April 5th, 2014, broadcasting live at noon Central on WSUM 91.7FM and audio-streamed live via http://wsum.org/ ! Don't miss a thing!

The story was reported by Wisconsin Watch's Phoebe Petrovic. Petrovic analyzed more than 400 ads in the three-week period between Feb. 22 and March 14, finding advertising that boosted Protasiewicz and blasted Kelly was running 23-to-1 against Kelly. But that changed in recent weeks, as outside groups poured money into the race with a flurry of new ads favoring Kelly, according to the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. Originally published on March 28th, 2023.

It's Thursday, April 6th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark First Muslim leads Scotland Last Wednesday, Humza Yousaf was sworn in as Scotland's new leader. According to Reuters, he is the first Muslim to head a democratic western European government. However, Yousaf is committed to leftist social values like protecting sexually perverted lifestyles and decriminalizing the murder of unborn babies. He also pledged support for a ban on conversion therapy that the Scottish legislators said they will bring forward this year. Conversion therapy involves helping someone change their so-called sexual orientation or gender identity after they request help to do so. In response, a coalition of 20 church leaders sent a letter to the legislature. They wrote that a ban “would go far beyond outlawing abuse and coercion; instead, it would criminalize ordinary Christians and church leaders for expressing mainstream, orthodox belief.” Trump's speech after New York arraignment On Tuesday night, after former president Donald Trump's arraignment in New York City on 34 felony counts, he flew back to Palm Beach, Florida where he delivered a 30-minute speech to supporters from Mar-a-Lago, reports The Epoch Times. TRUMP: “I never thought anything like this could happen in America. The only crime that I have committed is to fearlessly defend our nation from those who seek to destroy it. (applause) “From the beginning, the Democrats spied on my campaign. Remember that? They attacked me with an onslaught of fraudulent investigations. Russia, Russia, Russia. Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine. Impeachment hoax #1. Impeachment hoax #2. The illegal and unconstitutional raid on Mar-a-Lago, right here. (crowd boos) “The lying to the [Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act] courts. The FBI and DOJ relentlessly pursuing Republicans. The unconstitutional changes to election laws by not getting approvals from state legislators. The millions of votes illegally stuffed into ballot boxes, and all caught on government cameras. And, just recently, the FBI and DOJ, in collusion with Twitter and Facebook, in order not to say anything bad about the Hunter Biden laptop, which exposes the Biden family as criminals in which according to the pollsters would have made a 17-point difference in the election result. And we needed a lot less than that!” Mental issues precede gender transition of white female girls Researchers from Northwestern University released a study last week about people pretending to be the opposite sex. It was based on parental reports on 1,500 children who have experienced gender confusion. The study found girls of European descent represented the vast majority of cases. The average age when a case began was 14.8 years. Most parents of girls with gender confusion said their daughter had a mental health history. On average, mental health issues surfaced 3.8 years before gender confusion began. Most parents also reported experiencing pressure from a “gender clinic or specialist” to “transition” their child. In Mark 10:6, Jesus said, “But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.'” After bullying, North Carolina Democrat becomes Republican A North Carolina state representative announced yesterday that she is leaving the Democratic Party and becoming a Republican. The move gives the GOP veto-proof control in the state legislature. Rep. Tricia Cotham said she and her family have been bullied and attacked by Democrats for her attempts to work across the aisle. Listen to her share what the deal breaker was for her. COTHAM: “One of the absolute worst moments, which was a deal breaker, a turning point for me, was when I was criticized for using the American flag and the praying hands emoji on all my social media platforms, and even on the back of different vehicles that I have. I really could not believe that was the conversation that was happening at that time. And I was deeply offended. I am proud to be an American. I am proud of our country. I'm proud of the men and women in my family who have served.” Pro-abortion judge beat pro-life judge for Wisconsin Supreme Court Pro-abortion Judge Janet Protasiewicz beat pro-life candidate Dan Kelly in the Wisconsin Supreme Court election on Tuesday. The pro-death judge will replace a conservative justice who is retiring, swinging the court to a 4-to-3 liberal majority. The court is likely to hear a case soon challenging a state law protecting the unborn. Protasiewicz outspent Kelly in what was the most expensive state Supreme Court race in U.S. history. The total came out to over $42 million spent, according to the nonprofit Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. COVID pandemic heightened loneliness The response to the COVID-19 pandemic had an effect on loneliness in America. A study by Gallup found that 17% of adults experience daily loneliness as of February, down from 25% during pandemic shutdowns. The report also found people were more likely to report daily loneliness if they lived in big cities and were single. The study correlated the two findings. It revealed “that those who live in the most sparsely populated areas are also the least likely to feel loneliness. … Higher percentages of rural populations [are] married [with] children at home than what is found in urban environments.” Weekly religious attendance down since COVID And finally, a new study from Pew Research looked at the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on religious attendance in America. The percentage of those who attended services in person took a hit at the start of the pandemic dropping to 13%. It's back up to 28% but has plateaued. Live-streaming services have decreased from 36% to 24% now. And the percentage of those who say they participate in services virtually or in person has remained steady at about 40%. Overall, religious attendance declined slightly since the pandemic. In 2019, 33% of adults said they attended religious services at least monthly. That number is down to 30% now. Hebrews 10:24-25 says, “Let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Thursday, April 6th in the year of our Lord 2023. Her win may have a profound impact on pending issues with the court, most urgently, redistricting. If the state's badly gerrymandered voting districts can be dismantled and a proper representative state assembly be elected in this almost 50/50 state, it could impact reproductive rights, gun legislation, voting rights and other important issues. In 2011, led by Governor Scott Walker & the national Red Map Project, Wisconsin's legislature gerrymandered state assembly, senate and Congressional maps. Despite receiving less than 50% of the vote, the 2011 maps engineered a 60 to 39 advantage in the State Assembly, and retained control of the State Senate in 2012. The further gerrymandered 2021 maps resulted in a 64-35 advantage in 2022. Who upheld the 2021 map previously vetoed by Governor Tony Evers? The Wisconsin Supreme Court. It's not clear whether the Protasiewicz win will have an immediate impact on fair redistricting, or if it will have to wait until 2031. At a time when hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin workers are in search of greater economic opportunity, the state’s scarce job creation dollars are a precious public resource.
