Welcome back to another edition of The Meat Grinder, Connecticut's award-winning high school podcast brought to you by GameTimeCT.  We've reached the midpoint of the 2023 season, and what better way to celebrate than diving into a very special Meat Grinder midseason double album. Yes, like the rock legends of old — The Beatles, Floyd, The Stones, Zep, The Who — we've got so much good stuff we're loathe to make any cuts, so we've decided to release it all in one drop. Join hosts Sean Patrick Bowley and Pete Paguaga as they look back on the Week 6 that was, including the two big Saturday FCIAC games, Rockville and Notre Dame-Fairfield's mission statement victories, Masuk freshman Aaaron Champagne popping the cork on Barlow. This week's special guest star is ninth-year Fitch coach MIKE ELLIS, whose team rallied to beat NFA on Saturday to set up a big ECC Division I showdown at perennial contender Killingly. Truth be told, Ellis hesitated before joining the podcast this week after realizing that all of this season's previous guests lost the same week they appeared on pod. Is there a Meat Grinder Podcast Curse? If there is, Ellis says he's here to break it. We've only just begun. The podcast's second half is our annual Midseason report, beginning with the first good look at the 2023 CIAC postseason picture in all six (bleh) playoff divisions. And, finally, Pete and SPB will conduct a midseason football snake draft, where they'll each select their top players and units from the season's first half. So join us, won't you? Welcome back to the Lighthouse Project, a Children of Scientology Production. This episode includes descriptions and graphic details of rape as we read from a leaked internal letter Jane Doe 1's mother wrote to Scientology leader, David Miscavige, as she tries to escalate "handling" Danny Masterson's rape of her daughter, using Scientology's own incredibly detailed notes from interrogations of Danny Masterson, and Luke Watson and their changing stories. In Scientology speak, she explains her understanding of what happened to her daughter, being forced to accept blame, and being sold very expensive "security checks" (metered interrogations) so that she could take full responsibility for her violent rape, and near-death experience. She was angered by what she perceived as mishandling of the reported rape, and requested David Miscavige put a stop to the actions taken by Scientology officials, which she described as "squirrelly"; not in line with standard technology, and not a correct use of Scientology practices.  We compare the tv docu-series "Shiny Happy People" to Scientology, reflect on Scientology as a system, confining its members to its own language, and internal procedures, in which you must refer to the policy before offering an opinion, where the individual's voice is reduced and restricted, and how this comes through in this letter. We draw on our experiences of the effects of Scientology's practices on the inhibition of emotion and our lack of awareness of our personal boundaries and rights.  Jane Doe 1's mother hasn't realized yet, this is the way that Scientology treats crimes - victims are blamed & punished, not perpetrators. Her adherence to Scientology keeps her in this closed system rather than involving law enforcement or providing testimony in this trial. Thanks to this letter, we now understand more of Scientology's continued efforts to threaten, silence, and control Jane Doe 1, and how David Miscavige was fully involved and aware. Welcome back to the Lighthouse Project, a Children of Scientology Production. In this episode, we continue our discussion about testimony of Jane Doe 1 who was born into Scientology, as she described what happened after she first reported that Danny Masterson had raped her and the very specific and controlled actions she went through in an attempt to change her understanding of what happened, to force her to accept blame, and to take responsibility for what had happened to her. We continue learning about what Jane Doe 1 went through and how the situation escalated to involve more Scientology officials after Jane Doe 1's mother wrote a letter to the leader, David Miscavige urging him to step in and take action. We understand more of what Jane Doe 1 was up against and how tenacious she was in her persistence for justice and how the Scientology continued their attempts to threaten, silence and control her. We discuss the meaning of a non-enturbulation order and Mirriam shares her own personal experience with having been put under one at fifteen years old, disconnection and the threat of disconnection as well as the parent-child relationship in Scientology. We draw on some stories from our own lives.  Victoria relates to Jane Doe 1's testimony of endless interrogations and tells her heartbreaking story of her experience as a child while undergoing these same actions. We discuss what Scientology sells and what it actually delivers and the ultimate impact that it can have on people's lives.  We draw correlation between the Jane Doe's testimonies in this trial and other cases, which Amanda and Christi read to us from articles. We hear the same patterns, the same words and the same tools used against these victims by Scientology.  Jump into the conversation - send us a voice message - we may use it in an upcoming show: https://anchor.fm/children-of-scientology/message If you enjoy this podcast, and our content, please like, follow, and share. Occasionally described as “Addictive, stupidly addictive,” this episode delves into the insanity that is Pokémon Go and is dedicated to the people and the technology behind mapping and catching Pokémon. Shortly after its 2016 release, Pokémon Go became the most successful game in history and, at one point, surpassed both Tinder and Twitter growth with usage time beating other social media apps.   Why does this “Got to Catch Them All!” mentality transcends technology? Is it the nostalgia? The family bonding time? Meeting new people and raiding gyms? Or is it maybe a little bit more? In today's recording, you get to hear anecdotes on family bonding, date nights, and even meeting complete strangers to talk Pokémon. Most importantly, though, you get to meet the man behind IndyPokemap.com, Mike Ellis, and learn how he turned his Poké-hobby into a greener way to play in a globally supported community! Don't worry, this episode is teen friendly, no hacking techniques are discussed, just data personalization with gentile manners. After all, no honest mapper wanted to scan another mapper's territory.   And forget server farms, this episode includes all the details of iPhone farming with a shout-out to the suffrage that occurred during the downtime when mappers were forced to switch from Python to cellphones. The late 80s and 90s seemed to be a time when basketball was everywhere. Michael Jordan was everywhere, and here in WA, basketball fever came in the form of the Perth Wildcats. They're known as the original WA sporting franchise - and they were good. Very good. One name that's synonymous with the Wildcats is Tiny Pinder. He helped take the Wildcats to championship after championship in the early 90s. But there was a darker side to the star athlete, which has been investigated by the West in their new documentary series. One of the people who was there during The Wildcats heyday, and a moment that shocked WA  was former captain Mike Ellis, and he joins the show to exlpain his involvement in the new documentary by The West. Tiny Pinder is currently facing trial in NSW so we're legally not allowed to delve into those issues - but we strongly recommend watching the documentary. This week we are discussing Surrogacy, both in the UK and abroad. Our first guest is Anna Buxton, mum of three children through two different surrogates. Anna talks us through her decision of how they reached surrogacy after a long and painful gynecological history and was told Surrogacy was her only hope as she would never carry. Not carrying your child and grieving for that loss Anna voices the fear of so many people considering surrogacy,  They were able to create embryos yet still it was v.difficult. Feels like you are giving up on the hope of ever carrying a child, your husband seeing you pregnant, you feel lost.  Ripple effect… you think you are going to get pregnant, then you realize it's not going to happen as you thought. She couldn't find anyone to talk to about surrogacy.  Started in the UK - charities, and agencies but all had really long waiting lists and they'd already spent 5 years trying to get pregnant, and couldn't deal with another wait of 3 years. She found a few couples to talk to but didn't have access to the Insta community that exists today.  Anna talks about how she now realizes that Surrogacy was the light at the end of the tunnel for them and how incredible the women are who do it. She describes how Surrogacy is so complex of the process was something she buried herself in which helped her almost deal with the grief of not being able to carry. Surrogacy in India India had the longest reputation of surrogacy but had been shrouded in bad press and was halted for a while. They visited 10 clinics and found a Dr and clinic they loved who were running a lovely program all centered around the wellness of the surrogate. They started the IVF process in the UK and then had egg collection and embryos fertilized in India and then were found a surrogate. She still had nobody to talk to about this.  Complications of Surrogacy Abroad  The first step is to find a lawyer who is really experienced.  The pregnancy was difficult - people weren't talking about it, so Anna didn't tell hardly anyone until about 24 weeks.  It felt hard to believe She worried that people thought she was undeserved of being pregnant because she wasn't carrying the bump. Anna describes skulking around John lewis looking at prams, terrified someone would ask her why she was there and she was asked who she was buying the pram for and she said she mumbled ‘it's complicated' and walked off as she wasn't ready to tell a stranger.  Anna explained how you never know if someone is going to say ‘congrats' or if they will ask complicated questions. She walked away and ordered everything online.  Telling Work Anna explained how they talked to close friends who were really supportive but she was worried about work as she was the first person who had done it, was concerned about her position. She told them at 24 weeks, however, they had no policy for anyone doing surrogacy.  How they talk to their children They've talked about how children are bought into the world. They have pictures and memorabilia of India all around. They talk about how Mummy's tummy is broken and another mummy helped to grow her. They celebrated Divali, making sure to normalize her culture and how she was bought into the world. Isla - 5 Always say thank you to Sheparla her surrogate and India. They don't have a relationship with her as she didn't want to and also doesn't speak English. Anna writes a letter every year to her clinic with a picture of Isla both to Sherparla and her children. It's different with the twins as they are in touch with Holly, her surrogate in San Diago, and has pictures of her in their nursery. They are still in contact with her. Surrogacy is an everyday...  Our second guest is Mike Ellis - one half of Two Dads UK, with his partner Wes and founder of My Surrogacy Journey, a membership for Intended Parents to get legal advice, clinical advice,...

In 2018, over 38 million Americans lived in poverty, and an estimated 15 million of those were children. According to the USDA, before the coronavirus pandemic more than 11 million children in the United States live in "food insecure" homes, which means that those households don't have enough food for every family member. Today, projections show that 18 million children could face hunger this year. Join me this year in donating to No Kid Goes Hungry- go to https://www.nokidhungry.org p.s.
