On today's episode, we go over a recent report that Earth's plants have hit the maximum amount of carbon that they want to take out of the atmosphere every year, which isn't great considering we continue to increase the amount we are putting into it. Then, Secretary Rubio's just published new rules for obtaining a Visa into the United States that supposedly were to be aimed only at athletes, but are so full of holes that they could be applied to anyone who doesn't happen to match their assigned gender at birth. Next, the leadership we might be looking for out of the Democratic Party to oppose the machinations of the Trump regime are actually coming from Bernie Sanders and his National Tour to Fight Oligarchy. Finally, Jeff Bezos is says his new editorial policy at the Washington Post will censor pieces that go against what made him successful, because he IS America. You might not be aware of it, with Elon Musk and Donald Trump taking virtually all the air out of the news lately, but the State of Wisconsin has one of the MOST important elections in the USA for 2025 coming up in just over a month! On Tuesday, April 1st, Wisconsin's GOP wants to pull the most cruel April Fool's joke ever by ripping control of our state's Supreme Court away from us after just two short years. With Ann Walsh Bradley retiring after 30 years of liberal rulings, the 4-3 liberal mix of the court would be put back in conservative hands if Scott Walker's former Attorney General Brad Schimel is allowed to beat Susan Crawford in this spring election. We go over what is at stake.Next, we review how the recent strategic firings at the National Labor Relations Board and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (The NLRB and the EEOC, respectively) hamstring those organizations' ability to act in any way, robbing them each of the quorum necessary to act on behalf of workers nationwide. Then we read, with permission, the writings of our UK friend George Monbiot, as he details how there, those who had been pointing out the ways in which their society needed to be improved to forestall calamity were pushed aside in a way that's all too familiar here in the United States. Ezra Klein typically has good instincts when it comes to political analysis, often proving to be correct when countering "common sense" views that don't fit reality. Sadly, this time his attempt to be the calm voice of reason has backfired, as he has woven a rosy picture about how Trump has limits to what he can do - limits that often don't exist, with a hard look at what has happened in just the twenty-five days of his new administration. We discuss.Next, we show how private medical establishments like the American Medical Association are stepping up to try and preserve and SERVE the vital medical information that Trump is having scrubbed from the CDC, DHS and other government websites before it is lost forever. Finally, we reveal how oil tycoon Howard Hamm has been leading the charge in goading Trump 2.0 into giving Big Oil everything it could ever have wanted, at the expense of the environment's future. Investigative ReporterGreg Palast has recently been on The Thom Hartmann Program to give the news that Trump and his allies STOLE the 2024 Presidential Election, just as Greg had predicted with his documentary on electoral shenanigans "Vigilantes Inc". He joins us today to get the most airtime ANY program has yet given him to go over the hard numbers that took MONTHS to fully compile - it takes time when not everyone wants to cooperate with an investigation! Tune in for a DEEP dive that shows that not only does Trump have NO "mandate" to do what he's doing, he has no right to be President at all!Next, we find out that the energy-ravenous data centers that are expanding tremendously to accommodate the exponential growth of AI have been given a tool to use LESS energy in all that computing from an unexpected source: just 30 lines of code in the Linux kernel used by many of those servers! Combine that with the reported efficiency of the nascent AI DeepSeek, and we may be able to include AI in a future that DOESN'T destroy the environment... that is, if we don't blow the rest of the effort. We are joined once again by Professor Clara Mattei, Director of the nascent Center for Heterodox Economics (CHE) at the University of Tulsa. CHE's entire mission is formed around breaking the grip of the exploitative model of economics we are all too familiar with and finding a better path. Listen in to give the middle finger to Adam Smith's Invisible Hand. Then, we look at how the history of the AIDS epidemic is rife with examples of how Big Pharma places its unquenchable thirst for exorbitant profits far above any concern for the lives its wondrous medicines could save. Finally, Jessica Wildfire's post at The Sentinel Intelligence tells how obsolescence was an idea purposefully put into place to ensure the profits kept rolling in - right to the top! Bishop Mariann Budde is being attacked mercilessly for calling for mercy. We start this episode with something her detractors in the Trump Administration and the media won't give you: her own words. You can judge for yourself if anything she gave in her appeal to President Trump for mercy was remotely "nasty" or even vaguely wrong. Next, We look at how SCOTUS has rejected Montana's attempt to use the Independent State Legislature (ISL) theory to circumvent their courts' rulings on their measures to suppress voting - SCOTUS got this one right! Then, we give a special look at misterG's report on his friend Ahmed, a wonderful musician and teacher living in Gaza who has been steadfast in spreading music despite the genocidal warfare there. For more, be sure to tune into greenarrowradio on WSUM 91.7FM Saturday, January 25, 2025 or stream it live on wsum.org. Finally, we look at how Alabama's "work release" program makes the state so much money that they don't like granting parole - it reduces the number of prisoners they can profit from. All this and more on TMI for Friday, January 24, 2025 – listen in for YOUR Cure for the Common Media!
We start this episode with an interview of Amanda Moore, freelance journalist specializing in exposing the far right in the USA, as she alerts us to how the normally difficult life of freelance reporting is being made all the more tenuous by the incoming Trump Administration - even before inauguration! Next, we head to SCOTUS, where the Justices have cleared the way for Hawaii to continue their lawsuit against Big Oil for their decades of greenwashing propaganda. Then, we go over the new and comprehensive report that Biden's Department of Justice just released on the over-100-year-old Tulsa Race Massacre. Unlike the first DoJ report from 1921, this 126 page report goes over every crime committed upon the Greenwood community of Tulsa during that horrific event. Finally, tryptophan, the amino acid that is associated with getting sleepy, snuck in during our nap and upset how we envisioned the beginning of life on Earth. Rebroadcasting the first TMI for 2025, we look at how the arguments being used to take rights away from trans youth would, if allowed to be the basis by SCOTUS for their decision, also decimate rights for all women in the United States, cis and trans alike! Next, we move over to Finland, who in investigating the damage caused to the power cable that connects Estonia to their grid, took in a tanker that had a full complement of Russian spy equipment and personnel. Then, we look at the despicable attacks being leveled against former President Jimmy Carter by CNN, Fox and others, all based around his 2006 book where he recalled his attempts in the late 1970s to make peace between Israel and Palestine, referring to Israel as an "apartheid" state. They dug up all the old controversy without noting that NONE of what Carter reported would be considered remotely inaccurate today. Finally, we take a glimpse at a breakthrough in quantum teleportation, where they were able to instantaneously transmit the complete photonic state between locations separated by 30km worth of very busy Internet fiber cable. All this and more on the Best of TMI for Friday, January 10, 2025 – listen in for YOUR Cure for the Common Media!

Despite full page ads taken out by lobbying groups in USA Today and complicit articles in the Wall Street Journal decrying the maneuver, the Minimum Wage increase in California for fast food workers appears to have been an unmitigated success. We look at who exactly is behind the spin and why we need to be careful who we listen to when it comes to things that benefit the working class, not the billionaires. Next, we find that Florida's Department of Corrections is under fire for employing conversion therapy-like practices on transgender inmates. Trans inmates report being coerced or pressured to conform to their sex assigned at birth, with tactics that include denying access to gender-affirming care, misgendering, and other forms of psychological manipulation likened to conversion therapy. Finally, Biden's Department of Energy recently released an updated study evaluating the implications of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports. The report states that LNG export expansion would lead to increased greenhouse gas emissions, with Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm emphasizing that such expansion is "neither sustainable nor advisable" for the climate. It's the first time any US Presidential Administration admitted that LNG is NOT good for the climate. In this episode, we show that even the most sacred of American cows, George Carlin, had his limitations when it came to the wisdom to be found in his humor. Jessica Wildfire's piece at The Sentinel Intelligence takes on his famous comedy routine about germs and the immune system, where Carlin proposed that exposing yourself to germs helps your immune system "practice" and become stronger. This fundamental misunderstanding itself infected popular culture and became one of the most dangerous pillars of science-denial to be found in the anti-vaxxer arsenal. Next, we look at Michael Moore's response to being namechecked by alleged vigilante Luigi Mangione. Moore answered the question the media had been breathlessly asking him since his name appeared in Mangione's manifesto: Does Michael Moore condemn murder? Going over his library of work, he cited how his entire career has been about exposing how people's lives were repeatedly thrown away, destroyed and yes, murdered, by so many things that the American populace takes for granted, including the health care industry in his 2007 film, Sicko. All this and more on TMI for Friday, December 20, 2024 – listen in for YOUR Cure for the Common Media!
On this episode of TMI, we explore one of the fundamental misunderstandings about health care in the USA: that the bills we receive are the ACTUAL cost of the care. Going through a number of examples, we see that what is being billed is often ten times the cost OR MORE. Because of this deceptive pricing, many people are genuinely concerned when universal coverage comes up and they ask "HOW will it get paid for"? Taking out the need to profit shrinks the pricing to affordable size. Next, GOP officials throughout the country are responding to the reality that mass deportations and trade war tariffs would ruin their local businesses, and have begun to push back to stave off disaster for their constituents. Then, we look at the nominee who has flown completely under the media radar who spells BIG trouble for civil rights in the USA: Harmeet Dhillon. Dhillon's anti-trans litigation history and many other issues make her distinctly abhorrent to hold the office in charge of upholding the civil rights of Americans. Finally, in what is admittedly a bit of schadenfreude, we look at how the proposed merger of Kroger and Albertsons not only failed, but was so spectacularly demolished that Albertsons is suing Kroger over it. As the Cure for the Common Media, TMI aims to be an effective media watchdog, holding it to account for distortions and omissions... which means the piece from Jessica Wildfire on how human beings associate the ones giving bad news with badness itself was deeply troubling. We go over it all, showing how human cognition often serves us poorly when the news goes against what we WISH were true, even finding the narrow balancing act that can make truth-telling effective DESPITE the tendency to "shoot the messenger". Then, we take a moment to celebrate that Dane County Judge Jacob Frost ruled that a tremendous amount of the union-busting evil that was Scott Walker's Act 10 went against the Wisconsin State Constitution. Finally, we turn our attention to the upcoming Michigan Gubernatorial race as Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan was declare he will be running, but not as the lifelong Democratic candidate one would expect - he's running as an independent! We'll keep our eyes on this to see if he meand to be a Bernie Sanders type (yaaay!) or more of a Joe Manchin (boooo!). We start this week with a staple of Black Friday TMI episode, with Aldous giving the true story of how Black Friday got its name. Next, we not that no matter how bewildered we may be at Latino or Black support for Trump this year, White people have to face facts: there are too many of us to overcome if enough of us want something. Then, we look at how state abortion bans, like the one in Texas, stops doctors from performing necessary procedures like D&Cs to save the life of people who have miscarried. Finally, we go over how the New York Times' exhortation that we should all be nicer to those spreading anti-trans messaging got blown up a few days later when J.K. Rowling decided to savagely go after Barbra Banda for legitimately winning a women's sports award. On this week's episode of TMI with Aldous Tyler, we look at how two books, taken together, help explain much of the ethos behind modern American conservatism. Not only do we speak to how Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" had been an obvious cornerstone of the "I've got mine, screw you" crowd, but how insidiously "The Secret" managed to creep in and influence our current state of politics. Next, we look at how tensions flared in Congress as incoming Representative Sarah McBride (D-DE), poised to become the first openly transgender member of Congress, found herself personally targeted by Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC). Mace, in a highly controversial move, criticized McBride's right to use women's restrooms, arguing that McBride should be forbidden from accessing them due to her transgender identity, going so far as to introduce legislation to keep all transgender people from being able to use the restrooms that correspond to their presentation. We go over how McBride's response differs from that of Montana State Representative Zooey Zephyr when she was faced with targeted discrimination in the Montana Legislature, and what the implications are for all transgender people who visit Federally-owned facilities. This week, Congress voted on whether or not to fast track a bill that would hand the Treasury Department the ability to strip any nonprofit of its 501 (c)(3) status by declaring it a "terrorist" supporting organization. This was set to fly trough easily UNTIL Trump got elected and enough Democrats and even one Republican said it was unwise to hand him that power. Don't breathe too easily, though - this bill can return next year, and wonderful nonprofits like Common Defense and Task Force Butler, who just joined forces to stop fascism's rise in America, could find themselves decimated by it. Next, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez decided she needed to get to the bottom of why there were so many split-ticket voters - in her case, voters who chose Trump for President and her for Congress. The results of AOC's Instagram survey are both dismaying and insightful, and inspired ME to ask around to see what insights I could find as well - we report on that. Finally, we briefly tell you about how scientists are closer to finding the key to how life began, by replicating simplified mitochondria in lab conditions. On this episode, Aldous goes over the results of the 2024 Election and where we go from here. Then he takes a special look at the proposals of RFK Jr for how he intends to "improve" our public health systems, and finally we celebrate retaining Tammy Baldwin as the Senior Senator for the State of Wisconsin. OpenAI can't just rely on ChatGPT subscriptions to pay for everything, so they have other professional offerings, like their "Whisper" AI-powered transcription app. The problem is, like other AI Large Language Modeled apps, Whisper has an alarming amount of "hallucinations" - phrases or sentences it just randomly adds without regard to what it was actually supposed to be transcribing. When applied to medical transcription, or interlanguage interpretation, these too-frequent errors become hazardous. Then, we look at Paraquat (frequently marketed in the USA as Gramoxone) and the fact that despite being banned in many nations around the world - including the nation that MAKES the most of it - it is still used widely in the USA and Australia. Legal challenges are coming down the pike due to mounting evidence of Paraquat causing Parkinson's, despite the assurances of the manufacturers that there's no proof. Finally, we look at the Washington Post and LA Times' sudden reversal of planned endorsements of the Harris/Walz ticket. They wouldn't go so far as to endorse Trump, but clearly they are terrified of what he might do to them if he wins. In a different turn for TMI, we invite creator JV Altharas, the force behind new multi-modal fantasy world Realm of Aeodar. He tells us how, inspired by the completionism Tolkien aimed to have, his plan enacts an immersive literary world via not just stories, but also music, cooking, and so much more. JV has a full, inclusive vision to share and we introduce you to it here. Next, we show how being laser-focused on political polls is counterproductive, especially when you count for the margin of error almost always being a sever underestimation - we talk about how it got to this point. Finally, we go to the State of New York, which is taking steps to hold Big Oil accountable for the deceit and harm caused by their actions. All this and more on TMI for Friday, October 25, 2024 – listen in for YOUR Cure for the Common Media!
On TMI for October 18, 2024, we start off by going over a recent summary Bernie Sanders made of the political progress that we've seen here in the United States by examining the differences in the Democratic Party platforms from 2012 and 2024. A span of just twelve years provides truly encouraging contrasts that get lost sometimes when you are just fighting day after day to make things better. Next we give you two "best of" segments, as Aldous' voice just wasn't having it for the time being. Of those, we first dive into how GOP Congressional Representatives listen to their Big Oil donors, calling the Climate Crisis a "false emergency" despite the hue and cry of their very constituents as they suffer from supercharged hurricanes. Finally, we go over two scientific breakthroughs: one on EV battery recycling, and one on discovering the chemical bindings of memory in the human brain. All this and more on TMI for Friday, October 18, 2024 – listen in for YOUR Cure for the Common Media!
On today's episode, we expose the GOP Congressional Representatives who ignore the needs of their constituents at the request of their Big Oil donors, calling the Climate Crisis a "false emergency" in legislation to try and prevent the President from acting to help curb the worst of it. Greg Steube and Byron Donalds represent the gulf coast of Florida from Tampa south through Cape Coral - some of the hardest hit communities by Hurricane Milton - this shows just how murderous political corruption can get. Then, we replay the interview with Norman Stockwell of The Progressive Magazine from last week, talking about how Greg Palast's “Vigilantes Inc.” is coming to Madison, Wisconsin's own Barrymore Theater on Thursday, October 17th! We go over how this is a can't-miss opportunity to see Palast's investigations team bust the most brazen, racist attack on voting rights yet, with a Q&A session afterward WITH Greg Palast live and in-person, facilitated by your host, Aldous Tyler! This is the event you need to be at if you care about YOUR vote being counted. Finally, we check in with actual SCIENTISTS on why hurricanes are simply not possible to control directly, even looking at the failed historic attempts to do exactly that. All this and more on TMI for Friday, October 11, 2024 – listen in for YOUR Cure for the Common Media!
On TMI for Friday, 10/04/2024, Norman Stockwell of The Progressive Magazine joins us to talk about how Greg Palast's "Vigilantes Inc." is coming to Madison, Wisconsin's own Barrymore Theater on Thursday, October 17th! Then, on this episode we go over how climatologist James Hansen and his colleagues are making the case that we may be severely underestimating and misunderstanding a key component of the Climate Crisis: "aerosols" or rather dust, soot and water vapor, and how they have complicating roles in predicting just how bad things can get - including predicting where "climate havens" are. After all, Asheville, NC was considered one until last week when Hurricane Helene destroyed that notion. You're heard of the conservative playbook "Project 2025", a top-down authoritarian guide to how they intend to restructure every aspect of our nation to cement their backwards vision of society - what if there was a book that took the entirely opposite direction? Joining us today, Ben Manski is a contributor to that book, "How We Win: Energizing Strategies, Voters, and Agendas", a work that gives us as INDIVIDUALS the tools we need to create the progressive world we want to see, a world working for EVERYONE, not just the super-rich. Listen in!Then, we look at how disasters like Hurricane Helene, driven by climate-crisis-charged rapid intensification, are ruining the ability of the insurance industry to have our backs as we try to recover from losing our homes, health and lives to these ever-increasing calamities. On TMI for Friday, 9/20/2024, Greg Palast tells us how his investigations team has busted the most brazen, racist attack on voting rights yet. We're introduced to a terrible new threat to the right to vote: “Vigilante” challenges by self-appointed vote-fraud hunters - not government officials - who are targeting well over ONE MILLION young voters and voters of color to block the counting of their ballots. They tested the operation out last time in Georgia. The Trump-sponsored group "True the Vote" has gone from 88 vote-challenging vigilantes in 2020 to over 40,000 "volunteers" for 2024 in 43 states! Greg Palast has made this ESSENTIAL documentary free to stream at GregPalast.com - it's worth watching and sharing if you care about voting. Then, when you think about Pixar and the wonderful library of entertainment they have created, you don't often stop to wonder how their workers - animators and such - have fared. In the case of Inside Out 2 - still at theaters and the top-grossing animated film of all time - these folks were not just worked to death in creating so much money for Disney, many of them were let go just before they would have gotten the profit sharing bonuses that would have compensated for the low wages their unionless studio signs them on for. If you ever wanted to know why unions are a good idea, here's a great example. All this and more on TMI for Friday, September 20, 2024 – listen in for YOUR Cure for the Common Media!
Watching the media cover the rise of Kamala Harris and her debate with Donald Trump this week shows how blatantly both the enormous issue of the Climate Crisis and the human rights issues surrounding gender are treated to nothing short of journalistic malpractice. We go over the reality of Harris' climate positions (and the nightmarish alternative) and expose the hamfisted mishandling of her positions on trans rights. On our first song break, we feature a new piece by Death Doula called "The Witness", part of their upcoming full length release "Love Spells", due out October 11, 2024. Next, we take you on a look back at how a 29 year old episode of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was highly prescient to the current state of affairs in today's world, as its characters found themselves in a version of 2024 that bore far too much resemblance to the one we are in now. Finally, we indulge our science geek side and go through three new breakthroughs: one on EV battery recycling, another on scientists learning how to better study a phenomenon that is too fast and small to normally witness which could lead to limitless energy, and finally one on discovering the chemical bindings of memory in the human brain. All this and more on TMI for Friday, September 13, 2024 (Friday the 13th!) – listen in for YOUR Cure for the Common Media!

Next, we expose the exploitative fees levied by MySchoolBucks, a payment processor that's been profiting excessively from parents simply trying to ensure their children have lunch money. Finally, we discuss the Republican Party's latest campaign strategy—a deeply transphobic ad campaign targeting Democratic Senators in key swing states—a strategy they cling to despite its history of failure to win at the ballot box. Jessica Wildfire of OK Doomer wrote a piece this week that lost her more than a few subscribers, which is a shame given that it tells us a very important truth: that we often only improve things when faced with a horrible fate. The Region-Beta Paradox is important to understand, and we use Jessica's plain-language distillation to get a grip on it. Then, we head over to look at the national effort to combat food deserts (or as is catching on more lately, food apartheid). ProPublica reported on how the millions poured into founding local grocery stores in the middle of these under-served regions have met with frustrations and failure that can only be explained by understanding how these conditions began in the first place - we go over it all. Finally, we talk about a bright spot: a trans teen was allowed to play with her supportive cisgender teammates on a female soccer team, challenging the hateful ban in favor of community and joy. THIS IS A REBROADCAST OF TMI for 8/16/2024 When men as rich and powerful as Elon Musk and Donald Trump decide to have a conversation and invite the world to listen in, it's a good idea to check in and see what their vision is for the world we have to share with these reckless giants. On just about every front, it's not good, and with climate concerns in particular, Bill McKibben noted several especially alarming points to bring to your attention - we spend a moment to share his concerns with you. Then, we take a look at reporting from the inimitable Greg Palast on how Georgia has paved the way to legally refuse to certify election results from its own counties, and that the certification of the 2020 slate of votes by Atlanta's Fulton County wouldn't have been certified under this new "quiet coup" technique. Next, Matt Stoller dives into the recent antitrust loss Google took in court regarding its monopoly on search. This seemingly-trivial decision is going to result in changes to everything we know about online and business practices for decades, so listen in. Finally, we briefly check in with a group of teens who invented a way to use plasma to supercharge seeds and water for tremendous boosts in crop yields virtually anywhere on Earth! No matter how qualified, how centered, or how well-placed a Democratic candidate may be, you can count on the GOP to bring out every possible angle of attack on them. With much of Vice President Kamala Harris' political career being based out of California, we bring in local expert Peter B. Collins to run down the list of things we need to steel ourselves for in the coming 88 days. Harris has a history with plenty of good things, and enough difficult things to be attacked with - by going through them now, we can inoculate ourselves to weather them as they come up. But wait! As her first official decision, Harris has chosen her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz - we take a quick look at the impact he will have as a companion on the campaign trail for Harris. On the first TMI of August, we do a deep dive into how mounting death tolls from climate-induced disasters have pushed scientists and lawyers together to hold Big Oil accountable. Lois Parshley's report in The Lever gives insight into the birth of the idea of "Climate Homicide", and how advancing the pressure from mere civil cases to criminal ones may finally bring the worst offenders of pollution to heel. Next, we find confirmation of how Kamala Harris' ascension into the top of the Democratic presidential ticket took a deflated and flagging campaign operation and completely revitalized it, lighting the flame of enthusiasm that no amount of begging people to back Joe Biden could. Finally, we contrast the unveiling if the well-deserved memorial statue for Vel Phillips with the senseless murder of Sonya Massey, and how we need to be sure to value every life - after all, black lives matter. This week on TMI, we get a thorough look at how Joe Biden stepped down from being the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party for President, as well as why. In an era where one incumbent president attempted a fascist coup to stay in office, it is a stark and welcome contrast to see another who will step aside willingly for the greater good. Next, we take a dive into Kamala Harris' political background and show what she's fought for in the environment, monopoly and racial justice arenas. No small amount of what you've heard about her may be false. Finally, we have Joan Hunter Iovino and Jessica Wildfire contributing different-yet-compatible perspectives on how the "mental health crisis" we find ourselves in might be a sane reaction to insane times. This week on TMI, Aldous reads a quick word by Leslie James - UBER Girl - on how one can have a very bad day and carry on, to let you know you are NOT alone. Next, we look at Trump's pick for Vice President, J.D. Vance. If you haven't heard of him, you're in good company, but what should alarm you are those who've not only HEARD of Vance, but who are backing him to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of campaign contributions to Trump before November. Then we check in with Bill McKibben's breakdown of the GOP's plan for the Climate Crisis and how even the Taliban Administration in Afghanistan has a BETTER plan. Finally, we take a quick peek on a recent discovery on how creative people process information. All this and more on TMI for Friday, July 19, 2024 – listen in for YOUR Cure for the Common Media!
TMI starts differently than usual, with Aldous reading you a short essay written by Leslie "Uber Girl" James on how, far too often, we find people using religion to control, to harm, to encourage others to hate. She masterfully delves into how these false prophets and their twisted agenda led directly to the brutal murder of 14 year old Pauly Likens, a child who was not protected by the loving God these men claim to represent. Continuing the unusual episode, we then dive deeply into the legitimate issues surrounding the viability of President Joe Biden's campaign to be re-elected in November. The solutions offered should only be used in desperate need, but how much more desperate a need is there than defeating Trump and Project 2025? On this week's "TMI with Aldous Tyler", we kick off with a discussion on SCOTUS' July 1 ruling on Trump v. United States. This landmark ruling, which grants presidents immunity from prosecution when carrying out "official acts", has sparked a nationwide debate about the extent of presidential power, coming from sources as close as Justice Sotomayor. Next, we'll delve into Justice Elena Kagan's dissent on the death of the Chevron Doctrine. Kagan's scathing critique of her conservative colleagues, whom she accuses of a power grab, has sent ripples through the judicial community. Finally, we'll examine the controversial decisions by Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma to incorporate Christianity into their public schools. These states' moves to bring religion into the classroom have ignited a fiery debate about the separation of church and state. On this week's episode, we look at a pair of new studies that have discovered a flaw in the UN's IPCC models that predict how much sea levels will rise, and how horrific coastal flooding will get. Next, we examine the surprise unilateral move by media conglomerate Paramount Global to pull all MTV News (and CMT News) content offline – over 20 years of music and cultural reporting and history gone in a flash – and how it spells trouble fast if action isn't taken to stop this from happening again. Finally, we take a deep look into the hidden costs of power and water that giant AI data centers charge all of us. This week, we look into the recent declaration by UN Women, categorizing so-called "Gender Critical" TERF groups as an extremist anti-rights movement. Join us as we unpack the implications of this landmark decision and its impact on the fight for gender rights. Next, we turn our attention to the underreported national support for abortion rights, questioning the efficacy of outdated polling questions. Then, we take a step back in time to explore the 1918 Bird Flu pandemic, drawing parallels with our current health crisis. Finally, we'll discuss the groundbreaking discovery of archaea's ability to process hydrogen for energy, a potential game-changer in the renewable energy sector. All this and more on TMI for Friday, June 21, 2024 - listen in for YOUR Cure for the Common Media!
On this episode, we discuss how Bill McKibben lays out in his blog "The Crucial Years" the fact that advances in renewable energy technology and adoption are forming an "S-curve" where the slope of increase is moving sharply upwards, leading us into a future where the slope of decrease on reliance on fossil fuels will drop off just as sharply. Our goal now is to make these dueling curves meet in time to save ourselves from the worst of the climate catastrophe's effects. Then, we take a serious scientific look at how to improve our ability to communicate via conversation, taking a page out of the (literal) book "The Laws of Connection" by David Robson to increase our awareness of the common pitfalls that keep us from making those all-important connections with our fellow human beings. All this and more on TMI for Friday, June 14, 2024 - listen in for YOUR Cure for the Common Media!
On this episode, we dissect the profit-driven machinations of Big Food (the grocery monopolies and fast food giants). While inflation is hitting us hard, these monolithic corporations blame supply chain issues, all while channeling massive profits into stock buybacks and dividends to make their shareholders rich at our expense. Then, we look at Florida's decision not to illuminate bridges with rainbow colors during Pride Month under the guise of patriotic "Freedom" color displays being mandated all summer. This is sparking citizen action, with locals taking matters into their own hands by projecting rainbow hues from the Main Street bridge in Jacksonville. Finally, a lawsuit is trying to make it harder for you to have your absentee ballot counted in the State of Wisconsin. President Joe Biden's administration has taken numerous steps to fight monopoly power in the interest of the people, but at almost every turn, the White House Communications team refuses to comment on these positions and accomplishments, making it look like Biden is doing nothing for we, the people. The distinguished progressive Senator Russ Feingold lost re-election in 2010 with a similar "run away from your progressive bona fides" strategy - it might cost Biden similarly. Next, leave it to the ABC Network of Australia, but they've broken down the exact carbon footprint differences between EVs and Internal Combustion Engine cars from manufacturing and materials, fuel/energy sourcing and use through their lifetime and finally into disposal - you'll be surprised at exactly how the two compare. As England grapples with dangerously short supplies of essential medications, pharmacists raise their voices in urgent warning. We dive into the crisis, exploring why patients face immediate harm due to unavailability of crucial drugs. From life-saving treatments to everyday prescriptions, we look at how Big Pharma and Brexit have combined to cause this emergency. Next, a recent study on Apple, Microsoft, and SpaceX shows that these top-tier tech corporations are losing senior talent due to return-to-office (RTO) mandates. The corporate world tries to hold onto its precious office real estate by claiming RTO is about productivity and preserving corporate culture, but their actions appear to be losing both. Finally, we look at how new findings on the collapse of the Earth's magnetic field roughly 600 million years ago in the Ediacaran Period - they point to how that helped complex oxygen-using life forms emerge. It's not just cognitive dissonance or existential fatigue, this process has been known as reactance. And despite that we have all the warning signs that we are entering the worst time period in over 1500 years, it has a chokehold on our ability to react as a society. On today's episode of TMI, we find Louisiana's GOP lawmakers at a crossroads. The ongoing insurance crisis caused by devastating hurricanes has left homeowners at the mercy of companies that seemingly have none. Louisiana legislators are on track to repeal a consumer protection law adopted after Hurricane Katrina that stops homeowner insurance companies from canceling policies without good reason. The new proposals empower Republican Louisiana insurance commissioner Tim Temple to approve mass policy cancellations. Insurers would be allowed to cancel up to 5% of their policies each year as long as the policies aren't all in one parish, and 5% is NOT a hard cap; insurers can cancel as many policies as they want with approval from the Commissioner Temple. A provision in the legislation declares an insurer's cancellation plan a corporate "trade secret" not subject to Louisiana's Public Records Law, making them harder to fight against. For a spot of contrast, we then turn to briefly look at the USA's first bullet train! Brightline West's $12 billion project promises to connect Los Angeles and Las Vegas in just over two hours. At speeds of up to 200 mph, this electric-powered airline-alternative fights climate change while transforming travel. Assuming this is a success, this could FINALLY give an irrefutable example of how to make climate-friendly rapid transport happen right here in the USA. On today's TMI, we pull back the curtain on how public universities such as UCLA, founded on land grants and given billions in tax dollars, are joining the huge pharmaceutical companies in fighting to keep the prices of the drugs they developed out of reach of most Americans, despite the massive support given those research facilities BY the people to begin with. Next, we reveal that if you plan on holding a political protest in Texas, Louisiana or Mississippi, you'll be on the hook if anyone attending breaks the law, all thanks to a ruling by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals that SCOTUS declined to review. Finally, we wrap up with the scientific discovery of a massive black hole right in our neighborhood - cosmologically, that is. THIS IS A REBROADCAST OF THE EPISODE FROM FRIDAY, MARCH 29, 2024. ENJOY! Today on TMI, we look at the tragedy of the Francis Scott Key Bridge Disaster that happened on Tuesday, reporting the facts that combat the conspiracy theories that immediately cropped up to confound our understanding of this horrible event. We go beyond the initial reports that crowded our airwaves and explore the underlying factors that contributed to the collision that toppled a mighty bridge, killed six people and closed a highly significant seaport. Then, we shift gears to Argentina, focusing on the nation's troubled history with regards to the military dictatorship's violence against trans women. Despite years of accountability for the 30,000 "disappearances" that happened during the brutal military dictatorship there, this is the first time trans women have been heard from in the courtroom. Finally, we reveal how, in the face of 2023 being the hottest year in human history, it has been made clear that the ramping up of AI will consume obscene amounts of power, hamstringing any efforts made to combat climate change. In this episode, we expose the treachery of "Fossil Fuel Democrats" as they brazenly join the efforts of GOP lawmakers to halt President Biden's pause on the expansion of liquid natural gas (LNG) projects. Beholden to the interests of big oil and gas corporations, these Dems tout themselves as champions of not only fossil-fuel based jobs, but even the climate, all while fighting the effort their own constituents are asking for to combat climate change. Then, we see a glimmer of hope as recent FBI crime rate statistics reveal a continued downtrend in criminal activities across the nation. This might surprise you if you follow the news (or the claims made by many politicians, especially on the campaign trail), as the overwhelming majority of Americans seem to not realize it. Finally, we reveal a chilling specter — the rise of the Society for American Civic Renewal (SACR), a menacing force espousing Christian nationalist fascism. As we peel back the innocuous-looking layers of this extremist organization, we discover the true nature of intolerance, bigotry, and authoritarianism, and its designs on the foundations of our democracy.
