The Trump administration is dismantling DEI within the federal workforce and ESG is slowly morphing into one of the most irritating terms in corporate governance. Turns out, there is. A new effort called Coign (spelled C.O.I.G.N) offers what is essentially a conservative Visa card that donates a portion of every transaction to support Conservative charities. Visit us at Network2020.orgThe International Financial Institutions (IFIs), including prominent entities like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), have long been pillars of global economic stability and development. However, critics argue that these institutions were mainly designed after World War II, with structures that may not effectively address contemporary challenges such as climate change and social inequalities. Moreover, the emergence of a new era marked by the rivalry between the United States and China has further complicated matters. China's growing influence as a creditor, alongside its unique lending practices that diverge from traditional IFIs, presents novel challenges in addressing sovereign debt crises. As organizations like the World Bank and IMF grapple with these complexities, what reforms are needed to align IFIs with current global realities? How can these institutions navigate the geopolitical tensions between the U.S. and China while fulfilling their mandates? What role should the U.S. play in shaping the future of these institutions amidst evolving global dynamics? What are the perspectives of developing countries?Join us for a conversation between Dr. Daouda Sembene, Distinguished Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for Global Development and Former Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund; and Dr. Benn Steil, Senior Fellow and Director of International Economics at the Council on Foreign Relations. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) was established to aid Palestinian refugees, but it has become yet another flashpoint in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Israel has accused 12 out of the 13,000 UNRWA employees of taking part in Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israeli settlements. And as major donors like the United States, Germany and Britain have paused their funding, the aid agency may have to cease its life-saving operations for millions of Palestinians in Gaza by the end of February 2024.    Kenneth Roth, former executive director of Human Rights Watch, joins Ray Suarez to address Israel's allegations against UNRWA, and offers a critique of the Biden administration's unequivocal support of Israel, despite evidence that Israel is using starvation as a weapon of war against Palestinians in Gaza.   Guest:   Kenneth Roth, Former Executive Director of Human Rights Watch and author of “Righting Wrongs”    Host:    Ray Suarez   If you appreciate this episode and want to support the work we do, please consider making a donation to World Affairs. Today, Hunter sat down with Kimberly Simmons, the former Executive Director of the Idaho Public Defense Commission, and Paul Riggins, a private criminal defense attorney in Idaho, to discuss the past decade+ of public defense in Idaho. Like so many county based systems covered on the show, Idaho was once a patch work model where the quality of representation a person could expect depended almost entirely on where that person was arrested. Seeing the flaws in this model, Idaho took major steps to start to create more uniform standards and control of the system, but it failed to produce the results everyone wants. Tune in to hear how and why Idaho now stands on the verge of its second major public defense overhaul in just the past decade.     Guests: Kimberly Simmons, Former Executive Director, Idaho Public Defense Commission Paul Riggins, Criminal Defense Attorney, Idaho     Resources: Tucker v Idaho https://www.acluidaho.org/en/cases/tucker-v-state-idaho 2010 NLADA Report https://leg.mt.gov/content/Committees/Interim/2015-2016/Public-Defender/Committee-Topics/id_guaranteeofcounseljseri01-2010_report.pdf Bonnie Groller Law Review Article https://www.uidaho.edu/-/media/UIdaho-Responsive/Files/law/law-review/articles/volume-52/52-2-groller-bonnie-c.pdf?hash=41687452DF19CF85049D75A8B8EFA3B9F4AC0242&la=en Idaho Workload Study https://pdc.idaho.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/11/2018/03/PDC-WORKLOAD-STUDY-online-version.pdf Idaho Public Defender Overhaul https://blog.idahoreports.idahoptv.org/2023/03/23/legislature-approves-public-defense-overhaul/       Contact Hunter Parnell:                                 Publicdefenseless@gmail.com  Instagram @PublicDefenselessPodcast Twitter                                                                 @PDefenselessPod www.publicdefenseless.com  Subscribe to the Patron www.patreon.com/PublicDefenselessPodcast  Donate on PayPal https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=5KW7WMJWEXTAJ Donate on Stripe https://donate.stripe.com/7sI01tb2v3dwaM8cMN

How can we bring emotions and body wisdom to work?   For this Women of Color Rise episode, Analiza talks with Tina Fernandez, Former CEO, Achieve Atlanta. Tina is currently a Fellow at Harvard's Advanced Leadership Initiative. She is in a new chapter with a divorce, kids out of the home, and stepping down from her CEO role.    Tina has learned over the years that our bodies have wisdom. Assuming that only the mind should be valued at work without feelings is a white supremacist belief. Tina encourages women of color to bring all parts of ourselves to work - our mind, body, and spirit.    Here are strategies to use to leverage our body wisdom: Get to know yourself. How does your body react when you are stressed? How can you self-soothe? Take time to calm your nervous system down. Practice breathing, meditating, mindfulness, and somatics. Stay in your body. Even though it may feel uncomfortable, stay in your body instead of disconnecting. Give yourself grace. It's ok to take a break. If there is an issue, you don't need to fight immediately. Give yourself grace to take time and come back later.   Get full show notes and more information here: https://analizawolf.com/ep-62-tap-into-your-bodys-wisdom-with-tina-fernandez-former-executive-director-achieve-atlanta
