POPULARITY
He was born and raised in Turkey by a mathematician mother and a father who started and ran a successful technology company. He observed their love relationship and witnessed the positive impact of math, technology and entrepreneurship in my life. His parents' presence, values and parenting style define who He is. His father took risks when no one was talking about startups or knew what computers were. Every night he would wait for his father to carry his computer on his shoulder and walk up 5 floors to our apartment. He would code and take his computer back to his office before Yigit woke up. He leads by example, is open minded and has a positive outlook on life. He grew up with him as his role model. His mother is a super woman. When he was growing up, she carried the whole household. She was the main breadwinner while his father was building his business. She was the angel investor in his father's business, taking her savings from under her pillow and asking her father to invest in the company as well. She has supported the whole family tirelessly for decades. She has high conviction, which most people lack. Yigit feels fortunate to observe that love, and to have found his wife, another super woman who has been supporting him with high conviction since day 1. He was exposed to computers at a young age. As any 4 year old would do, he started playing DOS-based games and shell commands. That turned into IRC-based socializing, then hacking, designing and coding. His father started involving him in his business during my teenage years. He was exposed to strategic business decisions and high-stake activities such as scaling a reseller network, meeting enterprise customers and hiring/firing executives. In retrospect, that encoded his DNA and strong business intuition. In principle, he valued being a good human being and working unbelievably hard. The rest follows. He will continue doing what he is doing until the last day of his life. Build new products, solve real problems and work hard with excellent people whom he can learn from.

Human Creativity & TechnologyJoining Von N. Ruzive and Peter Jeun Ho Tsang, co-authors of Fashion Tech Applied, are Yigit Alp Elmas CEO of T-Fashion and Koen Warmerdam co-founder of Aware, to discuss how tech is impacting the creation of fashion products. The conversation unpacks how human creativity is still a vital part of the design process and tech will not replace humans, but rather how the individuals with the tech skills will be the ones thriving. We confront the industry's resistance to new technologies and emphasise the importance of shifting mindsets to adopt these innovations that promise to refine industry processes. The Future of Fashion Design & Product DevelopmentWith the emergence of tech such as Gen AI, digital product passports, and data-driven platforms, this episode shines a light on the importance on how they can be integrated into the fashion value chain and bring value in the creation of new fashion products. Experimenting with Artificial Intelligence from an Early Age At just 16 years old Yigit Alp Emas was already experimenting and harnessing the power of AI technology, winning technical competitions pitched against competitors twice his age. But there was something missing: a purpose. He saw opportunities to make real changes to the world and decided to find solutions to problems. At the heart of his motivation lies a personal connection—the sight of his mother's struggles within the fashion industry and the sting of a failed business.AI: The Future of Trend Forecasting Fast forward, Yigit is applying his AI skills to fashion trend forecasting and generative design. He's showing brands how they can use T-Fashion technology to predict upcoming trends and base their product releases using objective insights and data. By doing so brands can reduce waste, gain time, and overall improve how they are delivering the right product at the right time to their customers. In this episode Yigit takes us through how he's create the AI magic and what it will do for the future of fashion.Visit the T-Fashion Website to learn more about this platform. Volume omhoog en go go go!!!

In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we caught up with Marnie Blewitt from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research to talk about her work on the role of SMCHD1 in Development and Disease. The Laboratory of Marnie Blewitt focuses finding inhibitors or activators for the epigenetic regulator SMCHD1. Marnie Blewitt identified and characterized this protein during her PhD and the findings were published in 2008 in Nature Genetics. Since then, she and her team were able to investigate the function of this protein further. By doing so, they showed the involvement of SMCHD1 in cancer and several other diseases. Currently the lab is screening for small molecules that can act as inhibitors or activators of SMCHD1 the former as potential treatments for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, the latter for Prader Willi and Schaaf-Yang syndromes, both of which have no current targeted treatments. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.08.19.257113v1?rss=1 Authors: Treccani, G., Yigit, H., Lingner, T., Schleussner, V., Wennstrom, M., Herzog, D. P., Fricke, M., Wegener, G., Mittmann, T., Trotter, J., Muller, M. Abstract: Background: The detrimental effects of early adversity on brain development and adult mental health are well established. While studies have identified myelination processes and oligodendrocytes as targets of early adversity across species, knowledge about the precise molecular mechanisms and cell populations involved is still lacking. NG2+ cells are oligodendrocyte precursor cells with unique properties, as they form synapses with neurons, engage in cell-cell communication and respond to stress hormones. Methods: Using an established mouse model of early life stress (ELS) we performed cell-type specific molecular profiling in hippocampal NG2 cells at early postnatal and adult stages. To further dissect the impact of glucocorticoids on ELS-induced transcriptional changes, we integrated our data with available Chip-seq data on genomic binding sites of the glucocorticoid receptor (GR). The functional relevance of one candidate gene, Scn7a, was confirmed by electrophysiological recordings in hippocampal NG2 cells. Results: ELS specifically targeted the hippocampal NG2 cell transcriptome, and the molecular changes correlated with the ELS-induced increase of corticosterone. The overlap analysis with Chip-seq data on genomic binding sites of the GR revealed nine overlapping genes. Among those Scn7a, coding for a subunit of sodium channels, remained upregulated until adulthood in ELS animals. Upregulation of Scn7a was accompanied by an increase in the density of voltage-gated sodium channel activated currents in hippocampal NG2 cells. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that ELS specifically targets the transcriptional profiles and electrophysiological properties of hippocampal NG2 glia. Considering that voltage-gated sodium channels are important for the NG2 cell-to-neuron communication, our findings may provide novel insights into the pathophysiological processes underlying stress related mental disorders.
