During his time as the 242 Network Director, the team developed church planter assessments, training, and coaching. The 242 Network has now helped to plant over 50 churches and trained hundreds of church leaders. After almost seven years as a church planter and the 242 Network Director, Eric took on the task of revitalizing Vaughn Forest Church in Montgomery, AL, a church that had been declining for almost nine consecutive years. Under Eric's leadership and a powerful work of the Holy Spirit, the church saw the momentum change and within a year and a half was named to Outreach Magazine's “100 Fastest Growing Churches in America". During the past two years Eric has worked as a consultant serving churches and church plants around the country. Eric and Krystal believe God is calling their family to take a new step of faith and plant Hope City Church.

He’s focused on using the time we are currently in to make church better in every way in anticipation of preparing for what comes next, and you’re not going to want to hear all about it.

There comes a time when all of the policies, procedures and systems that we’ve nicely put in place will just not be enough. Even those of us who ‘expect the unexpected’ can eventually run out of back up plans, and then,...what then? Pastor Brandon Barber from Elevate People in Houston, Texas talks with Pastor Kelly this week about how they have maneuvered this past year through lockdowns, limitations, fear, conflicts and a massive winter storm that shutdown not only the city but also the services it provided. He speaks to the shift from the focus on adjusting processes to leaning in to the presence of God, and how by doing so, the church was able to minister to the community in practical ways that all other ‘processes’ had failed. We cannot avoid unplanned disruptions, but we can prepare for the future by making sure we are mentally, emotionally and physically healthy.

This past year has been exceptionally challenging for churches all over the world. It’s never easy to settle in an area where you are very clearly the ‘outsider’. It’s no different for churches in this same situation. This week we will hear how Pastor Jason Parrish of Well Church in Salt Lake City, Utah went about planting their church and the importance of building trust within the surrounding community. As one who has spent a lot of his life moving from one place to another, he has had a lot of experience in figuring out how to settle into new surroundings.

Have you ever found yourself in the place where your church seems to be struggling to grow yet you see churches around you that appear to be doubling in size? What are they doing that’s so different? This week, Pastor John Albiston of Edmonton, Alberta shares some of his expertise as an Effectiveness Coach with the PAC (Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada). Through his own experience with this same struggle, he learned the benefit of shifting the focus from those inside the church to those outside. 

It’s not uncommon for the role of lead pastor to be handed down from generation to generation within a family. Pastor Justin Beesley of HopeCity Church in Fredericton, New Brunswick talks about how he went through that transition with his own father passing the baton on to him, and how he’s continued to grow their church in a city where churches regularly fail. 

When God enters our lives things can change drastically! That was the experience that Pastor Juan Rodriguez from Arise Church in Dorado, Puerto Rico had when he was 17 years old and his future shifted from opening a nightclub to preaching God’s word. But being called into ministry doesn’t always come with a red carpet and runway lighting, it’s not always easy to find where you fit, and not every door you turn to will be open. Episode 31 of the vault talks about finding that fit and working past those feelings of inadequacy to where God is calling you to be.
