For years, policymakers have looked at military family issues through separate lenses; housing, employment, health care or mental health. But a new study suggests families experience those challenges as an integrated whole. And when those pressures build, the consequences extend beyond the household and into military readiness itself. Here to walk through the details is Gabby L'Esperance, Vice President of Research and Evaluation at Military Family Advisory Network.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

He also discusses the destruction of Iran's military capabilities, addresses questions about his safety during his first public appearance since NATO, and gives an update on America's military readiness and weapons stockpile. Pags then breaks down the biggest headlines surrounding Iran, including how the conflict is reshaping global oil markets and why he wants to hear Iran admit defeat itself. He also reacts as War Secretary Pete Hegseth announces a new policy testing troops for low testosterone. Then, former Army Lt. Col. Jeffrey Addicott joins the show to explain the optics of the Iraqi prime minister's White House visit, the latest on Iran, whether the Strait of Hormuz is truly open or closed, and why recent U.S. strikes are happening in broad daylight. In this episode of The International Risk Podcast, Dominic Bowen speaks with Dr Duncan Depledge about climate change and its growing impact on the world's militaries. This conversation looks at the geopolitics of the Arctic, the role of energy and logistics in warfare, and the growing competition across the High North, exploring how environmental change has become a central concern in defence planning. Duncan explains why it is a problem for militaries today rather than in the future, and why armed forces now treat a warming world as a practical operational challenge instead of a distant environmental one. The discussion examines whether militaries can decarbonise without compromising readiness and combat effectiveness, and why energy is both a necessity and a vulnerability in war. We also explore NATO's growing engagement with climate security, the rising competition for the critical minerals that green technologies depend on, and why the Arctic, the Baltic, and Northern Europe are now closely connected. The conversation explores:Whether the Arctic is the new central theatre of military strategyHow energy transitions create both resilience and vulnerabilityThe role of critical minerals and resource competition in future conflictWhy climate change is a present-day defence issue, not a future one Dr Duncan Depledge is Senior Lecturer in Geopolitics and Security at Loughborough University, specialising in climate security, defence policy, and Arctic geopolitics. He has advised the Ministry of Defence, NATO, and the European Commission, and previously served as Special Adviser to the House of Commons Defence Committee for its inquiry into UK defence policy in the Arctic.  The International Risk Podcast brings together global experts, frontline practitioners, and senior decision-makers to explore the forces transforming our world — from geopolitical instability and organised crime to cybersecurity threats and hybrid warfare.  Dominic Bowen is the host of The International Risk Podcast and one of Europe's leading experts on international risk and crisis management. He advises CEOs, boards, and senior executives across Europe on how to prepare for uncertainty, navigate crises, and build strategic resilience in an increasingly volatile world. #Geopolitics #ClimateChange #Arctic #NATO #Defence #Military #HighNorth #Baltic #CriticalMinerals#EnergySecurity #China #ClimateSecurity #PoliticalRisk #InternationalRisk #StrategyTell us what you liked!

CannCon and Alpha Warrior return for another episode of SITREP, breaking down military operations, intelligence missions, and the political narratives shaping public perception of war and national defense. The conversation moves from military life and deployment realities into discussions about aerial refueling aircraft, intelligence gathering missions, and the operational role of specialized tankers that extend mission capability for U.S. forces. Throughout the episode, CannCon and Alpha also reflect on the personal side of military service, explaining the logistical and emotional challenges troops face when preparing for deployment, from family decisions to financial planning and the uncertainty of returning home. The discussion then shifts toward political reactions surrounding military leadership and defense policy, including criticism of figures like Pete Hegseth and the broader climate of anti Trump sentiment in media and political circles. Blending military insight, political commentary, and candid conversation, SITREP Ep. 147 examines how operational realities on the ground often clash with the narratives promoted in public debate.

Two major refineries—Phillips 66 and Valero—are shutting down thanks to California's crushing regulations and "sustainability concerns," cutting the state's gasoline production by a staggering 42% and jet fuel by 35%. An assemblyman with 50 years in the oil industry, a USC professor studying refineries since 1973, and a longtime refinery controller are sounding the alarm: California is heading toward fuel shortages, $8-12 per gallon gas, and potential social unrest by summer 2025. Meanwhile, the state will depend on imports from Russia, India, and Singapore shipped on diesel-guzzling tankers—the ultimate climate hypocrisy. Governor Newsom's response? "Nothing to see here." But when summer blend hits, refineries go down for maintenance, and one supply chain hiccup occurs, California won't have the refining capacity to recover. The West Coast's military bases—including Travis Air Force Base—will face jet fuel shortages while importing fuel from the very countries we might defend against. Is anyone surprised California chased out its own energy security? What could possibly go wrong? Hit subscribe and share this before gas lines return.

With U.S. military assets quietly repositioning across the Middle East, Tara explains what “pre-positioning” means, why intelligence gaps matter, and what's at stake if foreign threats against American political leaders are ignored. This is not about protests. This is about sovereignty, deterrence, and whether the United States is willing to defend its own leaders—past, present, and future.

This week on Breaking Battlegrounds, guest host Sean Noble joins Sam Stone for a packed episode featuring Mackenzie Eaglen of the American Enterprise Institute, who breaks down the true state of U.S. military readiness, how China's defense spending compares to ours, and why Pentagon bureaucracy is undermining our ability to prepare for global threats. Later, Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap offers an inside look at what he calls a “crisis situation” in his office, revealing that outgoing officials stripped him of key powers, staff, and budget before he even took office, leaving voters with a “clearly broken system” and a power struggle that threatens local election integrity. And stay tuned for Kiley's Corner, where she covers the heartbreaking suicides of four officers from the same department last month—and the mysterious reappearance of Valery, the lost wiener dog who vanished on Kangaroo Island in 2023 and was spotted again this February. From national defense to local integrity, this episode delivers sharp insight into the issues shaping America's future. They would take the transgender agenda to extremes that weren't even seen under President Obama. This brought the word "woke" to our vocabularies. She defined this as taking progressivism to extremes and posing it with coercion, even if it hurts the institution.Elaine brought her opinions concerning the Pete Hegseth confirmation hearings, how he's been doing on the job thus far, military readiness (including women in the military), Christian and pro-life groups targeted by the Army, access to the military by those with gender dysphoria, and much more including calls from listeners.

I met with Glenna Goldis, a New York-based lawyer with experience in government, fraud investigations, and domestic violence advocacy, to discuss the recent executive orders related to gender ideology. Glenna, who publishes a Substack newsletter called "Bad Facts" about the so-called transgender rights movement, provided her legal expertise on what these orders mean for American families. We covered five key executive orders recently implemented by the Trump administration:1. The day-one order defining biological sex and restoring single-sex spaces2. The order ending gender ideology indoctrination in K-12 schools3. The order protecting children from chemical and surgical procedures4. The military order prioritizing readiness over ideology5. The most recent order protecting women's sportsGlenna and I explored the practical implications of these orders, discussing everything from school bathrooms to military readiness. We delved into important nuances around funding mechanisms, enforcement challenges, and potential loopholes. While Glenna expressed optimism about the orders' potential impact, she helped clarify their actual scope and limitations.A significant portion of our conversation focused on how these orders might affect healthcare providers, insurance coverage, and mental health professionals. As a therapist myself, I took the opportunity to advocate for addressing how "conversion therapy" bans have been weaponized against ethical mental health care. We also discussed the concerning trend of insurance fraud in gender medicine and the potential for increased federal investigations.Glenna shared her work with the Gender Critical Law Society, organizing lawyers to defend professionals who face challenges for maintaining biological reality in their practice. This led to an important discussion about the need for legal support for mental health professionals who want to provide ethical care without fear of losing their licenses.Throughout our conversation, we emphasized the importance of understanding what these orders actually do versus what they're often claimed to do in media coverage.
