This week Stuart talks to LTB staff member Alex Pearson about whether this common view of obesity is correct. Expect to learn about the causes of obesity, its relationship to health and why fat shaming is both ineffective and unethical. October 27, 2021 | Episode 62 Shawn & Brian are visited by Alex Pearson, who was fairly recently diagnosed with Autism as an adult. She shares her perspective on how her diagnosis has affected her as a woman, advocate, & entrepreneur. Alex describes herself as 'living in the gap between the Neurotypical and Neurodivergent' (ND) worlds, as she has always worked with and intuitively understood ND's, yet pretending to be Neurotypical, via her ability to hide her autistic traits. A similar story to millions of ND women, Alex was misdiagnosed and misunderstood prior to this year, resulting in difficulties accepting and advocating for her needs at work. Because she struggled to even identify the source of her overwhelm, she ultimately experienced severe 'autistic burnout.' She is now learning how to advocate for her needs with others and accommodate herself, and is sharing her journey, which has attracted over 290,000 followers and 3 million likes on her TikTok channel, @actually___alex. Alex works with businesses to transform outdated misconceptions about autism alongside providing strategies for both employer and employee on how we can all best work together. Having received her M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Alex leans into her strengths around developing engaging, brief and informative educational materials and her positive nature to think differently about accommodations, well-being, and a supportive, inclusive workplace culture. Melodic Stadium Rock Band Little Us was founded by lifelong friends from a small town in Connecticut. With members (aged 18-23) now residing in Colorado and Pennsylvania, the aspiring rock stars have worked increasingly hard to achieve every growing milestone and their journey has just begun. Working hard despite the distance, allowed them to expand their reach and create hubs of dedicated fans everywhere. The energetic quartet consists of Rithya Claude (lead vocals and guitar), Alex Pearson (guitar and vocals), Ethan Johnson (keyboard and vocals), and Kallen Colbert (drums and eye candy). By embracing their varying influences, Little Us has solidified their place in the scene blending the nostalgic and catchy arrangements of the 80's with the high energy and explosive qualities found in modern rock music.
