Andrew and I sit down and kinda just shoot the bull, we really sound ignorant in this episode, and to address my side of things, I've learned that though it is free speech when doing comedy.... One must read the crowd, so going into this podcast I was ignorant and not understanding, but since this episode I've sat down with other freinds and comics and theyve reminded me that reading the crowd is key!Enjoy this episode of TheHeleyCast! We definitely Get into subjects that could offend listeners so Listener discretion is advised!

In this episode Andrew shares the insights he gained while bush walking in the Blue Mountains Australia. To be reduced by exhaustion to only caring for food, shelter and water, can be a learning experience. Mindfulness and metaphorical thinking acts very differently when we have only simple repetitive actions to contend with. We can also be aware of the affect advertising and city life is having on us by contrasting it with a few days in nature. These ideas and more are discussed in detail throughout this episode. In this episode we talk about a few parts of Integral Theory and how they could be related to a musicians practice routine. We talk about meditation, body ability, states of mind, intelligence, and the dark side of music - your shadow side. An Integral Music practice covers all the factors of personal development and this episode makes a start at outlining a workable framework. This episode was inspired by a conversation I recently had with the Sydney based jazz musician Dave Goodman. Many of the concepts and ideas in this episode came from talking with him about music practice. In this episode Andrew recalls his experiences when attending a 10 day Vipassana Meditation course. The frustration of concentration development, the nature of seeing the path, and perception expansion experiences, are all described in detail. The difference between thinking and feeling, processing thought content and the nature of desire are also insights we discuss, which are simple enough, but hard to realise on a deep level. In this episode we discuss the three key factors to the heroes journey. The call is the call to action, and makes itself known in many subtle and obvious ways. The arrow is the direction of motivation, the path, the process and builds itself out of a string of calls. The door is ever present and immediate. The door is the gateway to another world – the unknown. As examples we look at the popular stories of Harry Potter, The Matrix, Narnia and The Lord of The Rings. In this episode Andrew shares his personal insights from completing the 90 Days NoFap challenge. What happens to libido? What is the difference between experiencing an impulse and acting on a feeling? Does NoFap really give all the benefits it says it does? With his usual combination of personal thoughts and intellect, Andrew explores all sorts of answers to these questions.
In this episode we discuss the three broad categories that all arguments and debates can be analysed by; Emotional, Rational and Comparative. These ‘levels’ of argument all have their own distinct qualities and orders of complexity. They also share a relation to each other which is different, depending on where each level is sitting, and what ‘centre of gravity’ each person has who is involved in the argument. With these things in mind, we can more easily navigate personal interactions and public debates.
In this episode we take a closer look at creativity and what it’s like to have an abundance of motivation for creative action. We look at the sub-traits of creativity; originality, productivity, utility and aestheticism, as well as many others. Is creativity an energizing experience? Or is it an expression of neurosis and frustration? We outline what it takes to be creative and discuss the broad categories, data input and the removing of barriers, as a way of expanding creativity. In this episode we look at the mechanics of Edge. What does it mean to lean into the Edge and have the slight ability over others - and ourselves? How can we divide the difference between cutting Edge and personal Edge? We look at Extreme Sports, Music and Business as examples. We also extend the concept of Edge into personality traits such as dignity, eccentricity, conformity and adventurousness. Ultimately Edge is the line between what’s real and what’s not, what’s possible and what’s not, a line we should all be stepping closer to, every chance we get. In this special edition of the Andrew Lake Podcast, Andrew shares his personal experiences with Time Travel, going 600 years into the future. How this expedition was organised, how Time Travel works, where he went, what he found, what it’s like to Time Travel and many other questions are answered from a firsthand point of view. Andrew shares his feelings around ‘paradigm shock’ and what it’s like to see another world. This is an intimate and vulnerable episode for Andrew as Time Travel is a highly emotional event – some things are too large for the human mind to comprehend. Where has technology taken humanity in the last 600 years? How has culture and our cohesive social institutions changed? Economics, family, automation, Artificial Intelligence, entertainment and a full range of human experiences are all discussed in detail. The question of whether or not climate change and nuclear war have any part to play in the future of our species is also answered. Some of the issues addressed are too difficult for Andrew to speak about without becoming emotional. Time Travel is an extraordinary once in a lifetime opportunity that happened to a simple nobody, who in this episode, shares everything. We will be taking submissions for a Q&A follow-up episode if there is enough interest. In this episode we thread Spiral Dynamics, the developmental psychological map, with Relationships, Emotion and the concept of Difficulty. As we view these threads of life through multiple perspectives, we build up a richer understanding of what these things mean. Friendship, Intimate partners and people we are unfamiliar with, are understood in a variety of ways, depending on one’s psychological development. Emotion has a changing degree of differentiation, utility and intensity as the Spiral unfolds. Difficulty is poised between what’s possible, what’s interesting and what’s boring. Building complexity of understanding by manipulating maps such as Spiral Dynamics is key to a deeper psychological ability to understand the threads of life. iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/andrew-lake-podcast/id1439388762?mt=2 Podbean: https://andrewlakepodcast.podbean.com/mf/play/y35vmu/Threads_of_Spiral_Dynamics.mp3
