Gimme Three - A Series For Cinephiles

With Baseball season in full swing, we thought it'd be appropriate to dive into classic films that find a home on the diamond. America's Favorite Pastime is the pastime of the Gimme Three Podcast this week. Listen to host Nicholas Ybarra's torment over his love/hate relationship with the sport, and find out if host Bella Efstratis was finally able to shed a tear for a sports movie. First up, the 1976 Michael Ritchie classic, The Bad News Bears. Crude, rude, and profane - but loaded with heart. Second, one of Nick's favorite films of all time: Penny Marshall's A League of Their Own. Finally, our audience selected one of the most beloved modern baseball films; Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane in Moneyball. Let us know what you think of these fantastic flicks, and let us know what your favorite baseball film is. ❗️SEND US A TEXT MESSAGE ❗️Support the showSign up for our Patreon for exclusive Bonus Content.Follow the podcast on Instagram @gimmethreepodcastYou can keep up with Bella on Instagram @portraitofacinephile or Letterboxd You can keep up with Nick: on Instagram @nicholasybarra, on Twitter (X) @nicholaspybarra, or on LetterboxdShout out to contributor and producer Sonja Mereu. Nearly two years ago, Dylan announced that he'd be writing a Dark Universe take on Field of Dreams. Now, for his last solo pitch of the Death's Door Saga, he finally has to pitch it, and it's not remotely the script he initially planned. So, is that a good thing, or a bad thing? What the Hell is Field of Nightmares, and how will it be recieved by Dalton, who has no fondness for the 1989 baseball film on which it's based? PLUS: A quick clip from this month's bonus episode, on which D&D pitch a chapter in the Jenny & Carol saga based on the obscure TV movie Snow White: A Tale of Terror! Dylan would also like to acknowledge the late, great film composer James Horner, whose themes from the original Field of Dreams feature heavily in his score to this episode. Baseball movies are a genre of their own, so there are plenty to pick from. I think we're going to do it draft-style, where we go around the horn picking our favorites from what's left. If you're the type who uses baseball movie quotes during your day, you're one of us, so it should be fun. First, however, we have our news updates. Get ready for a wild and unapologetically off-the-rails ride on this week's “Kliq This,” as Kevin Nash and Sean Oliver kick things off by pondering one of life's real head-scratchers: ever have a day where you just want to be a small Asian woman getting railed…by yourself? The conversation only gets crazier from there, with Sean offering White Lotus updates and Kev comparing it all to who-knows-what from past pop culture. You'll wonder if the guys have traveled to an alternate universe—or maybe they're just enjoying their front-row seats to the strangest corners of wrestling and TV. Before you know it, Nash and Oliver are dissecting a particularly spiky moment on AEW Dynamite, featuring Moxley, Cope (or maybe Edge—you be the judge), and that now-infamous toilet brush from hell. A little ringworm talk floats by next, because what's a wrestling deep dive without a few nasty tales of unclean mats, questionable promoters, and every other pitfall of life on the road? As Kev always says, you don't truly know pain until you see how nasty things get when half the roster's dealing with ringworm and you're seriously debating whether to walk out before showtime. Looking for more road stories and real talk? Kevin's got you covered on how to survive travel, the subtle art of “regularity” on the road, and why you should never trust the catering in certain promotions. He also dives into behind-the-scenes madness with talent arrivals, bizarre run-ins, and all the million little things that make wrestling shows the glorious cluster they often are. If you've ever thought about bringing your own toilet paper to a gig, congratulations—you and Big Sexy think alike. Of course, it wouldn't be “Kliq This” without the guys hitting you with left-field humor and some big-guy financial chatter. Kevin muses on everything from investment advice to bracket busters, because apparently, a deep dive on Kenyon Martin and the Florida basketball program pairs perfectly with stories about near-death experiences in the ring. Think of it like the perfect storm of wrestling nostalgia, stock tips, and comedic tangents only Nash and Oliver can conjure. By the time they wrap, your head will be spinning with random trivia, locker room memories, and the undeniable, unfiltered chemistry that only happens when The Big Guy and Sean get in front of the mic. Come for the unholy joke about iguana eggs, stay for the inside scoop on how not to get impaled by a spiked brush. If you're looking for that genuine, laugh-so-hard-you-cry vibe with just a touch of backstage scandal, you've found your new favorite hour right here on “Kliq This.” Enjoy the ride…and maybe pack some baby wipes. In other Badger news, the women's basketball coach has resigned, and the women's hockey team is a number one seed in the bracket! Elsewhere in sports, we talked about this weekend's moves in the NFL, the results of UFC 313, and Alexander Ovechkin now just NINE goals away from passing Gretzky. Talked about what's on TV tonight and we also took a look at a list of tips to help your body deal with this weekend's time change. Rally Caps is not just another baseball movie—it's a powerful story about overcoming adversity, friendship, and authentic representation of hearing loss. In this episode, Shari Eberts speaks with Jodi Cutler, co-author of the book that inspired the film, and Lee Cipolla, the film's director. Rally Caps follows Jordy, a young baseball player with cochlear implants, and Lucas, his teammate and mentor who also has hearing loss. Together, they navigate the challenges of growing up, finding confidence, and bonding over their love of baseball. With support from Phonak and Advanced Bionics, the film integrates real hearing technology naturally into the storyline, offering a true-to-life portrayal of hearing loss in mainstream media. Cutler shares how her son's journey with hearing loss motivated her to create characters young audiences could relate to. Cipolla discusses the challenges of casting actors with real-life hearing loss, including Colton and Noelle Pride, who bring the characters to life with authenticity. Now streaming on Amazon and Apple TV, Rally Caps is breaking down stigma and sparking conversations, normalizing the experience of hearing loss on and off the screen. After that, they discuss which Football Films will be part of that grouping. Can you argue that The Waterboy shouldn't get a spot? Will Remember the Titans be included? We couldn't do a Summer Series without a baseball movie, could we? For this episode, we wrap things up with an 80s classic, The Natural. Barry Levinson's epic baseball fantasy is overlong and overblown, but it's also well-cast, beautifully shot, and loaded with iconic scenes. Predictably, our opinions of this film run the gamut. Some of us view it through the glowy haze of nostalgia, while one of us is watching for the first time. Tune in and see where we land on the scale! Our upcoming series will look at films each of us has wanted to do, but they never fit into any category. With that in mind, we'll pick a wine that we haven't covered in the podcast yet. To prepare, we kick things off here with a Chilean Carmenere. #80s #baseball #TheNatural #RobertRedford
