“A mixtape of unreleased music and a few collaborations with friends which I thought would be a perfect mix for a Monday listen.” KMRU, also known as Joseph Kamaru, is a sound artist originally from Nairobi and currently based in Berlin. He explores sound to convey various interpretations in his work, drawing from his listening experiences in Nairobi and beyond and grounded in the discourse of field recording, noise, and sound art. Working under the guidance of Jasmine Guffund at Berlin's Universität der Künste (better known as UDK), KMRU looked at waveforms and embarked on a process where he would “write scores from the shapes, gradually turning the scores into raw synth sounds.” Kamaru's ambient-experimental music has taken him to the Barbican, Berlin Atonal, Présences électronique, and seen releases on Editions Mego, Subtext, Seil Records. His new LP ‘Dissolution Grip,' released on his OFNOT imprint, marks a shift in his approach, blending field recordings with synthesized sounds, hinting at his evolving musical direction. Nene H has been hailed as one of techno's most strikingly singular artists. In the studio she mixes up her passion for folk and religious music as well as bruising club sounds with layers of spirituality, found sound and analogue aesthetics. Despite only first getting involved in the scene in 2015, she is already at home at places like Berlin Atonal, either playing live or laying down a DJ set, and also has a masters in piano. As a DJ she can often sound quite different to how she does in the studio: her mix here is hyperactive affair that will well and truly kick start your 2020 with brutal drum patterns and twisted electronics that take no prisoners. There's also distorted techno rap and malfunctioning club music tightly woven together in a light speed mix that somehow packs all this and more into just one hour.

SONIC ACTS FESTIVAL 2019 – HEREAFTER Sasha Litvintseva, Beny Wagner – Universal Syntax 22 February – De Brakke Grond, Amsterdam, The Netherlands with an introduction by Victoria Douka-Doukopoulou. This talk will introduce a long-term collaborative project, Universal Syntax, by Sasha Litvintseva and Beny Wagner which seeks to untangle the human tendency to read the natural world as a text. The long and remarkably consistent history of the use of text as a metaphor for the interpretation of the natural world, present from ancient Babylonian observational practices, to Galileo’s reading of the solar system all the way to the human genome project, is ultimately the history of the human inability to experience the world unmediated. This is as much a history of media and technology as it is of science, culture and philosophy. As an entry point into the project, Litvintseva and Wagner will unpack some predominant theories of narrative structure and the metaphors they are based on, as a way to elaborate on alternative narrative models capable of responding to the complexities of contemporary perceptual realities. Sasha Litvintseva is an artist, filmmaker and researcher. Her work has been exhibited worldwide, including at Berlinale, Rotterdam International Film Festival, Videobrasil and Wroclaw Media Art Biennale, as well as solo presentations at Institute of Contemporary Art, London, Berlinische Galerie, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and Courtisane Film Festival, Ghent, among many others. She is a lecturer in Film Studies at Queen Mary University of London and is currently completing a PhD at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her academic writing has appeared in special issues of Environmental Humanities and Transformations journals, and numerous book volumes. Beny Wagner is an artist, filmmaker and writer. His research themes include the cyclical regeneration of media technologies, history of science, thresholds of human and nonhuman life, affective feedback, agricultural production and politics of waste. He has presented his work internationally, including at International Film Festival Rotterdam, Berlin Atonal, Media Art Biennale WRO, Movimenta Biennale, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Eye Film Museum, Impakt Festival and Venice Biennale, among many others. His work has been featured in Artforum, Spike Art Magazine, Frieze, Kaleidoscope, Flash Art and Die Zeit. Wagner graduated from Bard College in 2008. He was a researcher at Jan van Eyck Academy and is currently a senior lecturer at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. He is working with Sasha Litvintseva on a long-term collaborative project Universal Syntax.

Errorbeauty - Mix for Modulations Bulgarian born, London-Berlin based Errorbeauty has been meticulously piecing together her impressive catalog of releases since beginning Djing back in 2003. A professional flute musician by way of background, she gradually became drawn to electronic music's intricately textured soundscapes - more specifically the broken, aggressive shades of Detroit Electro. In 2012 she moved to London where she started her musical journey as a producer, meeting many artists whose music she's been collecting for ages, and rapidly appeared on the scene playing alongside Plaid, Mr Switch (4 times DMC World champion), Andrea Parker, ADJ, Bitstream, Flint Kids to name a few. Errorbeauty's work continues to evolve and offers listeners a distinct reflection of Motor City's relationship with the genre whilst demonstrating her own unique perspective of Electro, which brought her twice to the legendary Tresor Club for Berlin Atonal. Earlier this year she has performed at Berlin's underground well-respected event series Skizze in OHM as well as Bold, Exquisite Berlin and Disobedient Circumstance at Suicide Circus Berlin where she proudly became one of the residents in the club this year. Together with XOR12, she recently launched the new electro/techno record label Arkada Records. The first EP featuring T15DM and Errobeauty herself was released on July 15th this year. Some Club Moral classics are included, and some are unique or rare versions of other tracks. Side 1; Oorlog was recorded at the Batschkapp in Frankfurt-am-Main on 24 April 1986. On the way there we blew the engine of our car and arrived some 15 minutes before we were scheduled to play. The support act was a guy called Seewo, with a chainsaw who accidently cut his hand. Nazis of the Night was recorded at the Ambulance Station in London on 1 June 1985, a festival organised by Recloose Organisation. Several other bands played as well. All the time we stayed at the Ambulance Station, we had to block the kitchen where we were supposed to sleep on the floor because a small army of bums steadily tried to break in the door looking for food and other valuables. Our driver slept in his car for three days but still the car was burgled, while we were playing. 4 Safe Walls was recorded at the Berlin Atonal Festival on 17 February 1985. Among other bands playing were Etant Donnés, Laibach, Test Department and Gerechtigkeitsliga. Le Locataire was a performance on the occasion of an AMVK-exhibition at Time Based Arts in Amsterdam on 1 May 1985. Two days later we played at Staalplaat, who made a good cassette from the show there. Hunting Man was recorded at the Jazzbunker in Rotterdam on 30 November 1985. 6de Kolonne also played in this ex-biker hellhole. 19 Keys was recorded in Leguit, Antwerpen on 19 January 1986, a night organised by Hugo Roelandt. It is a rare calling of the 19 Enochian Keys in Dutch. During the night the power failed a couple of times, during our performance the main switchboard finally burned out. Ik Daag U Uit was recorded at AntiChambres in Gent on 13 June 1986. This exhibition and night of performances was an artists' statement against the posh "Chambres d'Amis" exhibition organised by Jan Hoet. In our performance DDV was locked in a metal cage which he pulled over the floor himself by ropes attached to the wall. The sound is produced by contact microphones glued to the metal. Side 2; Oorlog was recorded at the Mermaid in Birmingham on 29 September 1985. A festival organised by Con-Dom, who played also as were Victor/im and Iron Brotherhood. When we showed up at the venue, already three local Teenybop bands were moving in their equipment and setting up the stage. There was a discussion with the Indian owner of the place, and finally he settled for the 'International' bands. Too bad for him only a handful of people showed up and they hadn't expected that kind of noise. Man Heeft Angst was recorded at Vooruit in Gent on 26 October 1985 on the occasion of "Nuit Erotique". It is actually a Dutch version of Therapist Fears and came with a Super8film. Each Man Kills the Thing She Loves is a live cut-up, recorded on the same event. Hail to Thee Black Prince was recorded at Staalplaat in Amsterdam on 3 May 1985. Lies was recorded at the Mermaid in Birmingham on 26 September 1986, it is a poem by convicted murderer Jack Henry Abbott. Here Lives My House was also recorded at the Mermaid. L'Age D'Or was recorded at the Stadsschouwburg in Maastricht on 1 November 1986 as an integral part of an AMVK-installation. All recordings were made by Club Moral and are either binaural stereo or PA-mix recordings. No remixing or re-editing done. 4 Safe Walls and Nazis of the Night are originally by The Parts, lyrics by Erik Vloeberghs.
