Hi there! Feel free to drop us a text if you enjoy the episode. The BIVO Story with Founders Carina Hamel and Robby RingerIn this episode we speak with Carina Hamel and Robby Ringer, co-founders of BIVO, the Vermont-based brand redefining hydration for endurance athletes. Born from a desire to ditch plastic and do better for the planet, BIVO makes sleek, stainless steel water bottles that perform under pressure—and turn heads on the trail.Carina and Robby open up about the early days of building BIVO, the big move from Portland to Vermont, and the hard-earned lessons of launching a product-based startup—from nozzle design to navigating funding with integrity. They share their passion for creating more than just bottles—BIVO is evolving into a hub for endurance athletes through events, community engagement, and a fresh take on what it means to be a mission-driven brand in the outdoor space.Takeaways:BIVO bottles were designed to deliver performance and sustainability—no squeezing required.Feedback from real athletes helped shape everything from materials to feel to function.Running a business is hard, expensive, and filled with tradeoffs—but the community support makes it worth it.Future expansion may include other sports and products beyond cycling.Entrepreneurship means accepting that sometimes you're not in peak shape, personally—and that's okay!Their mission is grounded in creating better alternatives and stronger connections.Art & Eric embark on a journey to showcase and celebrate the endurance sports community in New England.

Through this experience and a job in product development for Keen Footwear, she realized she wanted to work internationally and began footwear development consulting, setting up new manufacturing partners and facilities globally. She started Bivo, a carbon neutral company, to be the solution to the cycling water bottle problem. She loves to play with her kids, ski, bike, and run. Church attendance in the West is on the decline. I think any church interested in having a future needs to do some serious reflecting on what may need to change. And I'm pretty convinced there's a big gap to be filled for people who still desire a faith community, but aren't looking to return what they may have left for good reasons. So...what kind of churches could fill that gap?At least one component of that conversation is about the moolah. How to resource and staff churches in a changing world. Sustaining the budget of a church with full-time staffing expenses isn't cheap. (and perhaps for some of us the business oriented nature of church is part of what we wanted to leave behind.) At the same time, coordinating and organising any kind of community does take time, effort and resources. And I still think there's an important role for pastors and ministers of all kinds.I've been trying to live in the tension of these questions for many years now. For several years I've personally been bi-vocational. Working a day or two in paid ministry and a few days in other spaces. A few years ago I read a book by Brad Brisco that introduced me to a concept I liked even more than BiVo. The book was called 'Covocational Church Planting', and in this week's podcast episode you'll hear why covocational can be a more holistic approach. I am delighted to have Brad join me on this episode for a chat about the future of the church and how CoVocational staffing may play a role in that. More broadly we discuss how the shape and structure of church is interwoven with what we believe about God and the purpose of the church. Brad has spent many years navigating these questions, and I think has some great wisdom to offer.During the conversation Brad mentions some resources around the ‘five-fold/APEST' gifts. You can check them out here in blog or video form:https://www.missionalchurchnetwork.com/blog/the-importance-of-5-fold-apesthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RUUzOf8TPg

Fun stat. 49% of Church Budgets, Pre-COVID, went to salaries. Payroll. Almost 1/2 of every dollar given went to pay an employee. (Almost 25% went to pay for the building, but that's another conversation). There's a movement as of late. Are you seeing it? People are stepping back from paid church staff positions, but still doing ministry either through the church or moving to doing ministry more in the workplace. This bi-vocational/co-vocational mindset is anything but new, however during this mid/post-COVID season, we are seeing a surge in this mindset. So what does it mean to be bi-vocational? Co-vocational? How does this affect how we do ministry? Does being bi-vocational limit or enhance how we do ministry? This may not be new thinking, but for many, this is crazy thinking… so let's talk crazy with Sam Chacko, Lead Pastor of Loft City Church and Bi-vocational minister. Sam's got the insight to what bi-vocational and co-vocational means, and how it could influence your church. What if you knew that the only way to multiply as a church would take a huge amount of sacrifice? How far would you be willing to go?How much would you be willing to give?We often hear that multiplication takes a willingness to sacrifice:A chunk of your peopleA chunk of your budgetBut what if it meant your entire paycheck? That's the crossroads that Stu Streeter and the team at Disciples Church in Folsom, CA, came to five years into their journey of multiplication.Desiring to reproduce 10 churches in 10 years just didn't look possible at the rate they were going. The overwhelming majority of their budget was going to paychecks and personnel. The team made a bold move. They decided to model to their congregation the degree of sacrifice that multiplication requires. It lit a fire in the people there, and Stu Streeter and his team have never looked back. Stu and his entire team are now intentionally bi-vocational planters, a choice that they feel has been a radical shift in helping them catalyze planters. In Episode 3 of our Reproducing Churches Podcast Series, we interview Stu Streeter, Lead Pastor and Elder at Disciples Church in Folsom, CA. Listen to today's podcast here and take multiplication with you into your day. Who's to say what great things might come from humble beginnings in your life? God wants to enlarge your sphere. Perhaps out of pain, and brokenness, death and defeat, will come a resurrection of purpose, and a greater power to see the impossible achieved.

This week Jared sat down with Jermaine Wall, a church planting resident with the Fellowships Network, to talk about his experience running his own business while simultaneously labouring to help plant churches on the east end of Toronto, Ontario. Jermaine does an incredible job of engaging people with the Gospel out in the community and I think you’ll come away with some excellent practical examples of how you can engage people evangelistically “as you go” in the community.
