We went deep into the heart of Texas with nearly 6,000 other runners as we took over San Antonio for the The Running Event 2025. Over the course of three days, we lined up over 40 meetings to gather all the intel we could about running shoes, apparel, gear, and nutrition. This is our report of that event, as well as a full recap of our experience at the Rainforest Cafe. It's a long one, but well worth it.Limited spots remain for Winter GRIT! For this episode in our wellness series, I'm joined by sports dietitian and marathoner Meghann Featherstun of Featherstone Nutrition. I had just gotten home from a whirlwind week at The Running Event and CIM, where I hosted conversations with Gabby Thomas (sponsored by Amazfit) and a Road to the Trials panel, and I was excited to sit down for a fresh, in-depth chat with Meghann. We debrief her time at TRE, where there were over 50 nutrition brands on display, and dig into what's actually new and useful in sports fueling right now. We talk about higher-carb products, evolving electrolyte and caffeine trends, and how to think about choosing between all the options on the market. From there, we dive into some big wellness topics like nicotine pouches, GLP-1 medications, midlife weight changes, and the pressure runners feel around body image. Meghann shares both her clinical and personal perspective on when these tools can be life-changing for health and when they become a vanity shortcut. We also cover how to talk about food and bodies with our kids, and then wrap up with practical advice for recovering from a fall marathon, including fueling in the days after your race, adjusting nutrition when mileage drops, and what to make of “fiber maxing.” Enjoy my conversation with Meghann! In this episode, I sat down with Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas while I was in San Antonio for The Running Event, and it was such a fun, inspiring conversation. Gabby had an incredible 2024 season where she won gold in the 200 meters in Paris and was part of the gold medal 4×100 and 4×400 teams. She runs for New Balance, studied neurobiology at Harvard, and went on to earn her master's in public health, so we talk about how her academic background shapes the way she thinks about performance, health, and life beyond the track. We get into what it actually felt like to win that individual gold, how she handled the pressure of the Olympic Games, what she's learning in this phase of her career, and what she's dreaming about as she looks toward LA 2028. We also chat about her partnership with Amazfit, how she uses their watch in training and racing, and why this season has been so meaningful to her both on and off the track. In today's group chat, we have Kofuzi, Peter Bromka, and Tommie Runz breaking down The Running Event and all that's ahead for the running world!
Neither of your two intrepid co-hosts planned to continue to explore, analyze & interrogate "the race experience", but here we are. The past few months have followed Michael's preparation & execution for the 2024 Detroit Marathon & we covered significant prep/debrief in episodes 71 & 72. Then in episode 73 we discussed the importance of felt-sense for training & racing thinking we'd moved on...& that was not the case. in this discussion, I felt it was really important to unpack more a specific comment Michael made in the episode on felt-sense. Here we unpack this in much greater detail. This episode was recorded on November 7th but will be released almost a month later because we took a break for The Running Event (TRE) & Thanksgiving. I made the executive decision to release our November 14th conversation earlier to coincide with when The Running Event is actually happening. We'll be back with you in December. Godspeed, my friends, godspeed.
"I'm living the dream, being who I am, truly and authentically. I can't complain at all. It's not even work." Tiara Williams is a self-proclaimed "little track nerd." The creator, journalist, broadcaster, and in-stadium announcer is the host of "Real Talk with Tee," and she's become a fan and athlete favorite for her genuine and insightful post-race interviews (that often involve dancing and laughing). Whether she's behind the mic, behind the camera, on the mic, or on camera, Tee brings a lightness to her reporting that puts athletes at ease. In this conversation, the former heptathlete talks about her passion for the sport and its athletes, and about how she has built "Real Talk" to what it is today, including stints at multiple World Championships, the 2024 Paris Olympics, international Diamond League meets, Athlos, and more. Plus, what it's like being one of the only Black women in the mixed zone, and where Tee hopes to go from here.
