They say running a business is 80% mindset and 20% action - this is very true! How to build a website -  it's really very simple, just DECIDE that it is going to happen. Commit, take imperfect action and make it non-negotiable, so those inevitable hurdles and obstacles don't stop you.  Dedicate yourself to learning new skills and processes and set a goal/target – 'this will happen by…….'! That mindset shift is all you need; the rest will just happen. What if you already have a website? If you already have a website this episode is still very much for you, as I bet there is something you'd love to do right now but feel that you can't or are stuck in the feeling of over-whelm. I can speak with serious authority on this as I am no website designer! I had a rubbish, basic website for 12 years but my website was a big part of my business being profitable and successful.  If I had taken it down because I thought it wasn't good enough, or too basic this would have been a serious mistake. I have now invested in a new website, which someone professionally built it for me, but I can still edit this site and yes do encounter the odd hurdle and maybe a few technology tears now and again! But this is all part of sharing my light with the world, which like it or not is online and I still frequently ask google if I want to know something. The mindset shift Decide, commit to the process, and take imperfect action – I CAN! https://youtu.be/eVN58freCFI Work with me? Join my Prosperous Yogini Mentorship Programme - I can help you create your website, write the copy, overcome mind-trash, all in a way that honours you! Having a website for your business can be very important. We aren't saying every business needs a website, but most will.So how do you go about getting a website made for you? Should you make it yourself? These questions are answered by going through the list below. Once you have gone through all of this you will be in the right position to either get one made for you, or do it yourself. Its VERY important to not call a website company or start building one yourself until you listen to this podcast and answer the below questions / understand the below statements.Understand that websites are complicated.Getting a website up and running can go from EASY to HARD very fast. There are things like DNS Records, and Site Security and Privacy and setting up your email to go under your domain.Take some time to research the basics of the anatomy of a website. You can do this by looking through training videos on places like Wix or Shopify, watching Youtube videos or even taking an online course. Why do you need a website?Your answer should be very clear. Examples might be:To show I am a legitimate businessTo have customers order onlineTo communicate what i offerAs a sales tool to share linksTo be found onlineTo have a place to send online adsIt's very important to know WHY and the more "WHYs" you have, the more expensive the siteIs there anything interesting or special your website will do?If it's just to "show words and pictures" that is the simplest site. But is there anything else?Customers can order products onlineCustomer can upload art filesConnect to your accounting or CRM softwareBe able to create mini-stores for your customersWhat do you want it to look like? The easiest solution for this to start searching for sites you like and note themAlso consider keywords and feelings you want the site to have:ModernFreshProfessionalFeminineMasculineUrbanCountryPatrioticReligiousetcWhat pages do you want?HomeContactAbout UsFAQsTestimonialsUse other websites to make a "wish board" of the look and feel of your website.Consider a platform you want it to be onDo you want an e-comm store? Search those platforms and create a short list. Do you want to get those organically? Are you familiar with how PageSpeed and SEO work? Did you know that it can affect how Google understands your website? Geoff Atkinson is the former Senior Vice President of Marketing at Overstock.com. He is now the Founder-CEO of Huckabuy, an SEO software company. In this episode, Geoff shares his insights on how you can organically increase your website's views and interaction by knowing how Google reads and understands websites. He also shares the secrets of building a perfect website with the power of PageSpeed and SEO. Check out these episode highlights: 01:09 - Geoff's ideal client: “Anybody that is looking for increases in organic search traffic. So that's really a very grad, it can be- we have e-commerce, software companies, non-profit, legal, we pretty much cover every industry.” 01:42 - Problem Geoff helps solve: “The problem that we solve is sites are built for humans, and they're complex and hard for Google to understand so we solve that problem for you.” 02:17 - Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Geoff: “If you think of Google as like a black box, or you've never had success with SEO, if you're sort of scratching your head, wondering what to do, the industry is a bit misleading, and so we sent to solve those questions for you.” 03:41 - Common mistakes that people make before they find Geoff's solution: “Let's say the biggest mistake is this reliance on agencies as a solution for SEO. Everybody immediately goes to outsource this problem and have an agency work on it. If you think about three main pillars of SEO, one's link building, getting your domain authority up, one's content, and one's technical SEO.” 05:15 - Geoff's Valuable Free Action (VFA): “I think PageSpeed is becoming a really important ranking factor. In 2021, Google's pushing a huge algorithm update called the Page Experience update. They've been talking about it for about nine months. PageSpeed is already a major factor but in 2021, the beginning of 2021, there's going to be a big, big shift up, and it's going to become even more of a factor. So, paying attention to page speed now is key.” 06:24 - Geoff's Valuable Free Resource (VFR): Check out Geoff's Website: https://huckabuy.com/cloud/page-speed/ 06:53 - Q: Why are PageSpeed and SEO important? A: SEO is important for a lot of reasons. I think of it as the oxygen of the internet, you kind of need it to survive. And it's built a lot of huge brands. PageSpeed is important, not just for SEO, but if you think about your own interactions with sites, how quickly it loads, it's how likely you'll stay on the site. Tweetable Takeaways from this Episode: “PageSpeed is important, not just for SEO, but if you think about your own interactions with sites. How quickly it loads, it's how likely you'll stay on the site.” -Geoff AtkinsonClick To Tweet Transcript (Note, this was transcribed using a transcription software and may not reflect the exact words used in the podcast) Tom Poland 00:09

It's really not that complicated to get started building your website. That's how I started and I continue to update and change my website myself. This article is just going to be a basic overview of the steps you need to take. We aren't going to get too technical but if you want to get more technical, make sure you check out this post-> How to Start a Blog in One Hour or Less. Here is the overview because I think you just need to know the steps to take first. Note: There are a lot of different ways you can build a website these days and a lot of new companies popping up trying to make it “easy” for you. Make sure you do your homework and choose the right platform first because it's hard to change later on down the road. I would rather put in a little work up front rather than go the easy way and face a mess of a situation a few months or a year in when you want to change your site. I have built a lot of different websites and use the same exact process every single time. It has worked really worked well for me. I also was able to turn my websites into e-learning platforms and membership communities just by following the steps below to begin with. Pick a platform that can grow with you.
