A master negotiator with years of experience in the business world, this week's guest is as driven as they come. Growing up in a home where autonomy was encouraged and big decisions were made with a consultative approach, he gained his confidence at a young age. This week, you'll hear how Scott Kitun paved his own way to becoming a media entrepreneur and co-founder of Technori. Scott describes himself as always being “20 years ahead,” which he attributes to sitting in on sales meetings with his father. From the time he was 5 years old, he's been listening to the nuances of why a person says yes or no to a product or service. His innate ability to see things through the lens of a businessman has helped him value earning relationships and respect. In this episode, Scott walks through his unconventional journey to becoming an entrepreneur-from negotiating his way through college, to realizing commercial real estate wasn't for him, to building his own curriculum for grad school, and eventually helping make Chicago one of the largest tech ecosystems in the world. His journey to success wasn't without its setbacks, though, and he's the first to admit having too many regrets to count. The silver lining to it all? Find out by listening to this week's episode!

To add insult to injury, college grads not only have their commencement ceremonies in limbo or delayed until the fall, but every senior year event has been cancelled.  Not only do they face being locked down at home or in their small apartments, that awesome job market these GenZers were told to look forward to is now up in smoke.  Now, they are entering a very crowded job market, with veterans and other professionals freshly unemployed because of the financial fallout from the slowdown. Things look bleak...but do they really?I sit down in a history-making conversation with my long-time friend, fellow NABJer, fellow university faculty member and former employee Neil Foote, who is the national president for National Black Public Relations Society (NBPRS) and lecturer at the Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas. He is also President of Foote Communications who has supported well-known clients like Reach Media, owned by To Joyner. This conversation is being shared with both of our classes, and we wanted to let you in on it. Neil teaches Media Entrepreneurship and I teach Writing & Editing for Strategic Communications.  What makes our conversation history-making?  It will be the first time I hand over the mic to my friend, and he will interview me.  This has never happened on the show, but I wouldn't think of doing this with anyone but Neil, who was my Vice President of Development and Strategy when I ran my agency back in the early 2000s.You won't want to miss this rich exchange about what students can do to shift their mindsets to win despite looming obstacles in the job market. If you have a college student at home, tell them to take a listen. There is hope, and we will get through this.

I also had a lot of questions that I wanted to answer myself as an aspiring entrepreneur. I thought it would just be a ton of fun and a great side hustle project. I was really interested in marketing too and that’s a big passion piece of mine. This is a super treat today, to have another dear friend, Amy Porterfield on the show. The reason it's so exciting is because I get to talk to Amy about things most people don't since her business is about social media marketing and doesn't really involve sharing much about her personal life. We get into being the primary breadwinner and how she appreciates her husband as a provider in many other ways, we talk about her experience being a step-mom, and we riff on the many intricacies of living in this interesting social media age we're in right now. Enjoy and share if you know anyone these topics apply to (which I have a feeling you do!). About Amy Porterfield: Entrepreneurs around the country depend on Amy Porterfield to show them step-by-step how to increase revenue, drive more online traffic, grow their email list, and strengthen their connection with their target market. Drawing on her years as a content developer and marketer for some the country’s top corporations, along with her own experience in building a business from scratch, Amy provides priceless insights for a stress-free approach to starting and growing your own online business. With an email list of over 150,000 subscribers, a devoted following on social media, and a hit podcast, Amy shows that nice girls (and guys) don’t have to finish last when it comes to making a living – and a life – that you love. In this episode, Amy shares: 1. Navigating friendship in this modern digital age 2. Being both a primary breadwinner and a step-mom and how that impacts family dynamics
