The Battle of Cuvelai two was a blood letting of note, with FAPLAs 11th Brigade now bottled up in the town, with the SADF Task Force Victor and X-Ray on their doorstep. 32 Battalion had pulled off a bloodless takeover of Techumutete during the last days of 1983, which at the time was regarded as a momentous achievement. However, they'd also doomed some of the Angolans and South Africans because one of the key aims outlined by General Greyling before the start of Operation Askari was to try and force FAPLA units to retreat to take control of the towns like Cuvelai and Cahama. By shutting off their escape route out of Cuvelai, the South Africans had actually created a situation where the Angolans now were going to fight to the death. The premise back at Oshakati was that the Angolans would shatter and run when the mechanized battalions rolled up to their front door but as you know by now, that plan had backfired. The more experienced soldiers fighting in Cuvelai on the SADF side were also extremely upset about the rather haphazard approach to intelligence gathering and tactics. This was now a conventional battle, no longer the flashy fast moving mobile surprise attacks that the SADF had honed – this was bludgeoning frontal assaults. It was on the 3rd January 1984 that one of the hidden SA-9 Strela missiles hit the tail of an Impala jet flown by Captain Joe van den Berg, the senior pilot from Ondangwa. His target had been the Firecan radar-guided 57mm AAA site east of Cuvelai, but during the pull-out after bomb release, he spotted the missile approaching. I explained that the SA-9 was unusual in that it could fire on approaching aircraft, and this missile blew up behind and under the tail section, completely removing the starboard tailplane and elevator.

Supposedly the number 13 is unlucky, but is this the week when we learn the truth at 17? In fact, there were those in the 70's who pleaded “please mister please”, don't choose B17 on the jukebox, because that song could cause a ballroom blitz. Everybody knew that it only takes a minute to go from some jive talking to really bad feelings. If things got really out of hand, you would hear people yell warnings like “run Joey run” or plead for assistance by screaming “help me Rhonda”! Those who escaped could only be grateful to some unknown heroes when they pondered to themselves that someone saved my life tonight. In this episode we keep holdin' on to yesterday by experiencing the Billboard Top 40 from the week of August 23rd, 1975. Hopefully this time we're spending is not wasted days and wasted nights. What better way to kick off Season 2 then Episode 50! Our 50th episode has been fraught with technical difficulties, from Audacity turning Tori into a demon to our NEW laptop not being compatible with our soundboard. Returning from our holidays with all new stories for all, Tori leads off with someone Florida fun. Ford's Garage is a restaurant inside the Dean Building in downtown Fort Myers. Due to the hauntings there we figure out that Krys is okay with a wineglass being thrown at her as long as you aim it at her mouth. Right down the street the Edison and Ford Winter Estates beckons with random lights shenanigans to an elephant haunting. Tori keeps going with Sanibel and the shady case of Capt Oliver Bowen. This mysterious grave keeps treasure hunters sniffing around to this day and the ghost hunters as well. Next up Cayo Costa State Park and it's little girl ghost (thank you Captain Joe and Tropic Star Adventures. Krys takes us back home to Monument Circle! The Soldiers and Sailors Monument in the center of Indianapolis has it's own backstory. This is on the site of the old governor's mansion, which was relocated down Meridian Street to the north. Over the last 75 years UFO witnesses have described UFOs coming from or disappearing into what appears to be interdimensional portals. Experiences also describe beings coming through and exiting portals that appear in bedroom walls. In this episode Grant Cameron talks to former United Airlines Captain Joe Vallejo about his experience of being in a portal along with 48 other people that appeared near Mount Shasta. The group that encountered the portal was called Mission Rahma. The portals are called a Xendra (pronounced “sendra”) which they define as a dimensional portal that reportedly allows teleportation to remote parts of the cosmos. Vallejo is one of a number of people who have had this experience and I will detail those in future episodes. When in the Xendra a number of weird things stared to occur. One key one was that their voices sounded like they were talking underwater. This is exactly what 9 witnesses described in an August 2020 Xendra at Mount Shasta which will be featured in futures episodes. In this episode Captain Vallejo also describes being allowed to fly the UFO. I have found 50 people who make a similar claim, and they all say the same thing. Many will be featured in future episodes. Vallejo compares flying the craft to the flying of a Jumbo Jet. Finally, Vallejo talks about inspirations and downloads that he has had in his life and how this might work. In this episode a husband and wife duo share their experiences. Captain Joe started out on commercial fishing vessels in the Pacific Northwest at the age of sixteen. He has gone on to work in the oil fields in the Gulf Of Mexico, harbor tugs, and has since moved on to tow boats on the East Coast, towing barges. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to not be relieved from watch because your relief is dead? Mrs. Captain Joe works with Covid-19 patients and shares what its like parenting with a husband always gone at sea. We also discuss working out and why some mariners can't work on vessels that call on ports in Canada. Here is the link to the crazy hot matrix video I referenced on YouTube.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWicECdC4Ec Thank you for listening and supporting the podcast. Whatever industry you may be in, it is common to hear of the legends. Those people whose name continues to surface in conversations with other customers or competitors. In the inshore fishing business, Capt Joe Gonzales is one of those people. Despite working 150 miles away from one another, I heard Joe's name and stories on the regular. His reputation precedes him as a professional who might actually have some Bonefish DNA mixed in with his. Many have said that Joe knows all the bonefish in Biscayne Bay. This may be true but that is not what makes a great reputation. There is much more to becoming a legendary Captain. Like most of the legends I know, Joe has stayed curious and seeks to learn more about all things fishing in order to continue to improve. I visited Joe in his home in Little Havana, Miami. He was gracious and welcoming and certainly told some great stories. I hope you will enjoy this podcast with Capt Joe Gonzales. If you do, please share this one with a friend. Joe walked me through his Bonefish Rig, you can see detail instructions below with links to the knots the Joe is referencing: To start off Joe uses an 8-foot spinning rod - this gives him a little more distance, especially when fishing out of a Marquesa and the bonefish are more aware of Joe's presence in such a large boat. With the 8-foot rod Joe is able to cast further and into the wind. Joe uses a light rod (light action) and uses a 20-pound-test and will tie it with a Uni Knot or a Clinch Knot. Then Joe will use an offset 2/o with a bait keeper. He will then bite the tail off of the shrimp and will thread the backside of the shrimp. He does it this way because it is aerodynamic, and head heavy, but also because with the head clipped off, there is some scent as well. Watch the video HERE.
