Gene and Chris present Chris Aubeck, co-author (with Martin Shough) of "Return to Magonia: Investigating UFOs in History." To understand the real nature of the UFO phenomenon, it's important to evaluate UFO sightings across the centuries. Are cases from hundreds of years ago similar to modern cases? If UFOs are an age-old phenomenon, how does that fact provide clues as to what's really going on? All in all, this will be a truly fascinating session that will move the discussion about UFOs into fascinating areas.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-paracast-the-gold-standard-of-paranormal-radio--6203433/support.
Co-host Christopher O'Brien joins Gene to talk shop about loads of topics. They also re-introduce Dr. Jacques Vallee to The Paracast; his second appearance on the show. This wide-ranging discussion will include his 2010 book, coauthored with Chris Aubeck, entitled "Wonders in the Sky: Unexplained Aerial Objects from Antiquity to Modern Times.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-paracast-the-gold-standard-of-paranormal-radio--6203433/support.
Why does the term “flying saucer” appear in newspapers fifty years before UFOs were first sighted in 1947? Why did the original witness, Kenneth Arnold, insist he never saw disc-shaped objects at all? Can we find signs of disc-shaped objects through the ages? And have they become almost extinct today? In Saucers, veteran ufologist Chris Aubeck takes the reader on a deep dive into Arnold's own first-hand accounts and, for the first time, presents evidence that we might have been chasing the wrong flying objects all along. For anyone puzzled why saucers once flooded the skies yet scarcely appear now, Saucers sheds new light on the origins of this iconic symbol. No matter where you stand on this controversial issue, this book will challenge your views. There has never been a better time to be informed about how flying saucers became embedded in our culture.BioHis interest in the historical and sociological aspects of unexplained aerial phenomena began at an early age. A student of language and folklore, he has helped compile the largest collection of pre-1947 UFO cases in the world. He has spoken on his research in many articles and on public radio. In 2008 he was awarded a prize for his contributions to the field by the Spanish organization Fundación Anomalía.In 2003 Chris Aubeck co-founded a remarkable collaborative network of librarians, students and scholars of paranormal history on the Internet. This group, known as the Magoniax Project, extends from North and Central America to Russia and Germany. It has accumulated thousands of references, searched media archives in several languages, and gathered hundreds of rare documents, scientific reports, and newspaper clippings from the last 400 years.Amazon link https://amzn.to/3YNR0TS https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/alienufopodcast

This story is based on true events.Lane writes, “I didn't give UFOs and extraterrestrials much of a thought back then, even after I saw them back in the early sixties and seventies. It was several years later that I started to recall past memories of UFO contact. And although I had been experiencing psychic ability and premonition from as far back as I can remember, it just seemed like a normal part of everyday life. This ability of intuition, ESP, ran very strong on my mother's side of the family, being Gaelic and Celtic Irish, but also seemed to run on my father's side. Everyone in my family has been born with this ability to some degree. I have always had a very deep sense of spiritualism knowing that there is something much greater and bigger out there in the universe than just ourselves.”Amazon link https://amzn.to/4dn6HG1 https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/alienufopodcast

by Charles Lear, author of “The Flying Saucer Investigators. People have probably been reporting strange things in the sky for as long as they've been able to communicate. Chris Aubeck is a researcher who reaches far back in the historical record searching for UFO cases and is a founder of the Magonia Exchange, which is a group dedicated to the collection and archiving of fortean reports. In the June 2015 issue (page 11 of pdf) of Edge Science magazine, he and National Aviation Reporting Center On Anomalous Phenomena (NARCAP) associate Martin Shough detailed their investigation of a 1665 report from Barhöfft, Sweden (now part of Germany), near Stralsund, that received a lot of attention at the time. The article is an excerpt from their 2015 book, Return to Magonia. Gene and cohost Tim Swartz present a thought-provoking talk with UFO historian and author Chris Aubeck, who reveals secrets about the origins of the terms flying saucer and ancient artifacts. Only these secrets were always in plain sight according to two of his books, “Alien Artifacts: The forgotten story of how we came to believe in visitors from the stars” and “Saucers: Tracing the Origins of Disc-Shaped UFOs.” Aubeck's interest in the historical and sociological aspects of unexplained aerial phenomena began at an early age. A student of language and folklore, he has helped compile the largest collection of pre-1947 UFO cases in the world. He has spoken on his research in many articles and on public radio. Welcome to the ninth episode of season 6 of the I Want to Believe podcast! In the evening hours near the end of March 1873, a peculiar encounter was had by a farmer and his son. The story comes to us from authors Chris Aubeck and Martin Shough in their book, Return to Magonia: Investigating UFOs In History. They wrote, “Men in Black were a staple of folklore and religious visions long before their association with flying saucers in the late 1940s. However, all these elements combined, plus circumstantial evidence that lifts it a little above the level of a mere tale, means that the case of Thomas Inman and the alien who drove away should figure among the most significant UFO encounters documented in the 19th century.” Play the episode to hear Thomas Inman's story of the MIB from 1873. - A quick reminder that all of our I Want to Believe social media & email are in the show notes.
The "abduction" of Jacob Jacobsson is a little-known case popularized in "Wonders in the Sky," by Vallee and Aubeck in 2009. Based on an eighteenth-century manuscript from Lonmora, Sweden, the story bears a striking resemblance to modern tales of alien abduction, and causes us to question the extraterrestrial origin of these bedroom invaders. He moved to Spain aged 19 and after teaching in Cáceres and Madrid for 24 years now lives in Granada. It has accumulated thousands of references, searched media archives in several languages, and gathered hundreds of rare documents, scientific reports, and newspaper clippings from the last 400 years.Websites magoniax.blogspot.com twitter.com/caubeckBooksAlien Artifacts: The Forgotten Story of How We Came to Believe in Visitors from the Stars Return to Magonia: Investigating UFOs in History Wonders in the Sky

In our first installment of our History of Abductions series, I put forth the premise that abductions weren't in print before 1957... welp, that's not entirely true. On this episode I dive into the origins of the phenomenon with fae encounters from Celtic lore, and the stories of the chaneques, gnomes, from Mexico. I also dive into the classic stories of paleo-abduction, including James Everell's luminous swine, the attempted abduction of Col. H.G. Shaw, and the strange disappearance Karl Hunrath and Wilbur J. Wilkinson. Sources: “Fairyland's Hunters: Notes Towards a Revisionist History of Abductions. Was steckt dahinter? For centuries, folk tales from various parts of the world have told tales of "visitors" that hailed from distant regions of the sky. Believed by some ancient scholars to represent elementals, these beings were often said to be composed of air, and traveled in ships that sailed through the skies whose home ports existed in a far off place called "Magonia." Although most accounts of these sort fall squarely into the category of myth and legend, is it possible that some describe aerial phenomena similar to modern UFOs? This had been the contention of computer scientist Jacques Vallee in his landmark study Passport to Magonia, a work that both broadened the scope of UAP studies, and equally cast Vallee as a heretic in an already heretical field of research. This week, we examine "the Magonia effect", and the influence of this early treatise on historical Ufology on The Micah Hanks Program. Ever wonder where the banner image on our website and social media pages comes from? It's a composite image based mostly from a 16th-century woodcut depicting a UFO sighting over Nuremberg, in modern-day Germany. As well as producing a captivating illustration, the sighting is a good example of an early-modern "wonder-sign," long before the term UFO ever entered the lexicon, and before anyone suspected extraterrestrial culprits.
