Former Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney and National Review Contributing Editor Andy McCarthy is in for Jim today. Andy and Greg dive into the law, congressional politics, and how the presidential campaign and the NFL might intersect this year.First, Andy analyzes Special Counsel Robert Hur's Tuesday testimony before the House Judiciary Committee. He explains why Adam Schiff was dead wrong to suggest Hur was playing politics by discussing Biden's faulty memory in his report on Biden's mishandling of classified information. He also dismisses Rep. Jayapal and others for wrongly insisting that the Hur report "exonerates" Biden, noting the facts of the report and that it's not the job of a prosecutor to exonerate anyone. But in reflecting on questions from the GOP side and the report itself, Andy outlines why he thinks Hur's ultimate conclusions were wrong.Next, they react to Colorado Rep. Ken Buck announcing his impending resignation from the House of Representatives. The move will leave the GOP with an even slimmer 218-213 margin with four special elections still to come. Andy suggests this move is quite telling about the battle for the future of the Republican Party. Finally, they get a kick out of reports that Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is speaking "pretty continuously" with New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers about Rodgers serving as Kennedy's running mate for his independent presidential bid. This week I'm pleased to be joined by Abe Goldfarb, who is currently playing Otho for the touring company of Beetlejuice: The Musical and both starred in and co-directed First Time Caller (which I reviewed here). You may remember a few months back that Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert got kicked out of a showing of Beetlejuice: The Musical; well, Abe happened to be onstage when all that went down. After having a few laughs about that, we get into the world of indie filmmaking and his recently released project, First Time Caller. Turns out that one of the best ways to make money on a project like this is to make it and release it on an ad-supported streaming channel, yet more evidence that we've torn down the whole system just to reinvent cable. If you enjoyed this episode, make sure to check out First Time Caller and Beetlejuice: The Musical, on tour now. And make sure to share this with a friend!

Did you know that Kayden's Law passed in Colorado? Kayden's Law is one step needed to keep children safe as families go through our family court system. If you are a survivor of domestic violence or narcissistic abuse and you share children with your abuser, it is likely that you will find yourself in a family court battle when you leave. Our family court system needs significant reform in order to put the interest of children at the forefront to protect them from abusive and narcissistic parents. On this episode I have a conversation with Colorado Representative Meg Froelich, one of the sponsors of Kayden's law about the incremental changes that are happening and that still need to happen to reform our family court system. We break down what Kayden's Law requires of court professionals with regard to training, who can be considered an expert in these cases, and how it prevents reunification camps that are harmful to children. We look at the views of the opposition and other challenges to having bills like this passed, with the hope of more states being able to gain some traction and pass similar legislation in their states.Representative Meg Froelich is in her third term in the Colorado House of Representatives and serves as the, Chair of the Transportation, Housing and Local Governments Committee and sits on the Energy and Environment Committee. Rep. Froelich has a passion for recruiting, supporting, and training women who run for office which has informed her extensive work on protecting women and children. She was the prime sponsor of the Reproductive Health Equity Act, (2022), which preserved the fundamental right to access the full range of reproductive healthcare in Colorado and the Protections for Reproductive Healthcare Access, (2023), which ensured protections for providers and reproductive and gender affirming healthcare access. She has promoted the rights and protections for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors with recent bills, Julie's Law, (2021), and the recently signed Kayden's Law, (2023), and the Forensic Medical Evidence Process Improvements, (2023), which will provide funding for additional access to services for victims of sexual assault As a former teacher and parent to three Littleton Public School graduates, Froelich has helped to increase K12 education funding, recalibrate our teachCome join us, and others like you, for a mini retreat in Golden, Colorado on Thursday, October 5, 2023. It's Friday, January 6th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com) ISIS activity spikes in Iraq Between December 19th and 21st, 17 Iraqi people have been killed by ISIS fighters. Eight were killed in the Diyala Province after villagers approached ISIS fighters on motorbikes, but were quickly overpowered, reports International Christian Concern. It is believed that ISIS is hiding in remote villages in Iraq waiting for opportune times to attack despite being a fraction of the group they used to be. Many of the remote villages in Iraq, that are believed to hold ISIS members, are in areas where heavy ethnic and religious minorities reside, like those of the Christian faith. Revelation 6:9-10 says, “When [Jesus] opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, ‘How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until You judge the inhabitants of the Earth and avenge our blood?'” 50 conservative leaders say: Move on from Kevin McCarthy A group of nearly 50 conservative heavyweights co-signed a statement Wednesday calling to "change the status quo in Washington," and applauded the 20 members of Congress who Wednesday voted against House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, sinking his bid for House speaker after six rounds of votes, reports Fox News. Among the group calling for McCarthy, R-Calif., to bow out of the race for speakership are former Reagan administration Attorney General Ed Meese, Ginni Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and David McIntosh, president of Club for Growth. Conservative Action President Ken Blackwell, along with 47 others, offered support to the "20 courageous members of Congress" who have voted against McCarthy. In the letter, they wrote, "These members [of Congress] represents the millions of voters across the country who are disgusted with the business-as-usual, self-interested governance in Washington. We stand behind them and beside them in their courageous efforts to find a Speaker of the House who will represent the interests of conservatives. We encourage more conservative members to join their ranks.” They added, "Rather than engage them in a good faith negotiation, Rep. Kevin McCarthy has instead maligned both the requests and the messengers. He has publicly and through proxies leveled attacks against members of his own party, including threatening to deny committee assignments for those who continue to oppose him. Moreover, he has failed to answer for, or commit to halting, his coordinated efforts in the 2022 elections to promote moderate Republican candidates over conservatives.” Colorado Rep, a Trump supporter, disregarded Trump's advice Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert of Colorado, one of the 20 conservatives who oppose Kevin McCarthy and an avid Trump supporter, disregarded his advice to vote for Kevin McCarthy for House Speaker. BOEBERT: “Let's stop with the campaign smears and tactics to get people to turn against us, even having my favorite president – [Donald Trump] – call us and tell us we need to knock this off. I think it actually needs to be reversed. The president needs to tell Kevin McCarthy that, sir, you do not have the votes and it's time to withdraw. With that, I yield. Thank you.” Texas Congressman nominates Florida Rep for House Speaker Texas Republican Congressman Chip Roy stunned Congress when he nominated Florida Republican Congressman Byron Donalds for House Speaker, reports FloridaPolitics.com. One reason Roy prefers Donalds over McCarthy is that he is only serving his second term and has not become corrupted by the D.C. Swamp. ROY: “Byron Donalds is a good man, raised by single mom, who moved past adversity, became a Christian man at the age of 21, and has devoted his life to advancing the cause for his family and for this country. He has done it admirably. “But there's an important reason for nominating Byron, this country needs a change. This country needs leadership that does not reflect this city that is badly broken. The House of Representatives is the people's House.” Who is Byron Donalds? Listen to a soundbite from his 2020 TV ad. DONALDS: “I'm Byron Donalds. I was raised in Brooklyn, New York by a single mom with three kids, two jobs, and not much else. Thanks to my mom and her influence, what could have been the end of my road was just the beginning. Because of her, I'm a proud FSU graduate and a happily married businessman with three amazing kids. “Government didn't get me off the streets. Trusting God, love of family, personal responsibility and hard work did. Today, I'm everything the fake news media tells you doesn't exist. A strong, Trump-supporting, gun-owning, liberty-loving, pro-life, politically incorrect Black man.” NFL player's cardiac arrest may have been caused by ‘vaccine-induced myocarditis' LifeSiteNews.com reports that the tragic cardiac arrest suffered by a 24-year-old Buffalo Bills safety on Monday Night Football may have been caused by “vaccine-induced myocarditis,” according to Dr. Peter McCullough, a distinguished internist, cardiologist, and epidemiologist. He told COVID vaccine journalist Steve Kirsch, “If Damar Hamlin indeed took one of the COVID-19 vaccines, then subclinical vaccine-induced myocarditis must be considered in the differential diagnosis.” Subsequently, Kirsch announced that Hamlin had indeed received an experimental COVID-19 gene-based vaccine as “The Buffalo Bills is a 100% vaccinated team.” In an October 18th article on McCullough's substack channel, he cited studies demonstrating how cases of myocarditis have increased in the population from around 4 per million to approximately 23,256/million in the tender ages of 13 to 18 alone since the introduction of massive COVID-19 gene therapy vaccination campaigns and mandates two years ago. Spontaneous reports since 2021 reveal the “highest risk group [for vaccine-induced myocarditis] was males age 18-24,” which becomes “explosive after the second injection,” with “deaths confirmed by autopsy.” The Gospel goes forth on CNN And finally, CNN's Anderson Cooper, a self-professed homosexual, heard about the Good News of Jesus Christ during one of his own interviews, reports Christian Headlines. Author and former NFL player Benjamin Watson told Cooper Wednesday that Damar Hamlin's medical emergency on national television is a reminder that everyone eventually will face death but that God provides a solution "through His Son Jesus Christ." Listen. WATSON: “We all have a day to be born and we all have a day to die. And so often in between those two points, we feel invincible. All of us have an appointment with death. “If that were to be us laying on the field or if that were to be us laying in a hospital, the question is about what happens after this life? Where will you spend eternity, as you mentioned Anderson, are coming up for all of us, not just for the football players. But thank God that He provides an answer through His Son Jesus Christ.” Romans 1:16 says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” The latest update on Damar Hamlin's condition is that he has awoken, can move his hands and feet, but cannot talk, reports ESPN. Americans are getting ready to travel for the holiday weekend. Gas prices are falling but remain high. And airlines are continuing to deal with cancelations. The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection has issued a subpoena to former White House counsel Pat Cipollone. His reported resistance to Donald Trump's schemes to overturn his 2020 election defeat has made him a long-sought and potentially revelatory witness. A new poll shows about half of Americans say former President Donald Trump should be charged with a crime for his role in what happened on Jan. 6. The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll finds 48% of U.S. adults believe Trump should be held accountable for what happened during the deadly Capitol attack. Amazon is limiting how many emergency contraceptives consumers can buy, joining other retailers who put in place similar caps following the Supreme Court decision overruling Roe v. Wade. A company spokesperson confirmed Amazon's temporarily cap of three units per week went into effect on Monday. U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont has broken a hip in a fall at his home and was to undergo surgery to repair it. Leahy's office says in a statement Thursday that the 82-year-old Democrat fell Wednesday night in McLean, Virginia. The first Black woman confirmed for the Supreme Court, Ketanji Brown Jackson, is officially becoming a justice. Jackson will be sworn as the court's 116th justice at midday Thursday, just as the man she is replacing, Justice Stephen Breyer, retires. In sports, Justin Verlander lifts the Astros to a season sweep of the Mets, Gianicarlo Stanton homers again to lead the Yankees, Rowdy Tellez muscles up twice in Milwaukee's win, the Braves keep winning, and James Harden opts out in Philly. R. Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for using his R&B superstardom to subject young fans to systematic sexual abuse. The singer and songwriter was convicted of racketeering and sex trafficking last year at a trial that gave voice to accusers who had once wondered if their stories were ignored because they were Black women. A new poll shows an overwhelming and growing majority of Americans say the U.S. is heading in the wrong direction, including nearly 8 in 10 Democrats. The poll, by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, finds that deep pessimism about the economy continues to plague President Joe Biden. Eighty-five percent of U.S. adults polled say the country is on the wrong track. Seventy-nine percent describe the economy as poor. The findings suggest Biden faces fundamental challenges as he tries to motivate voters to cast ballots for Democrats in November's midterm elections. The poll shows only 39% of Americans approve of Biden's leadership overall, while 60% disapprove. President Joe Biden says the U.S. is enhancing its military presence in Europe for the long haul to bolster regional security after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Biden outlined the plan during a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg at the alliance's annual leaders' summit in Madrid. Biden says “NATO is strong and united." He says steps taken at the summit will augment its “collective strength.” Biden says the U.S. will establish a permanent headquarters in Poland and send two additional F-35 fighter jet squadrons to the United Kingdom. The U.S. is also sending more air defense and other capabilities to Germany and Italy. The only surviving attacker from the 2015 terrorist massacre at the Bataclan theater and other sites in Paris has been convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole. That is the most severe sentence possible in France, and very rare. Salah Abdeslam was the chief suspect in an exceptional trial over the attacks, which killed 130 people and were claimed by the Islamic State group. A jury of seven men and five women have been sworn in for the penalty trial of Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz. Cruz pleaded guilty in October to murdering 17 people at Parkland's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018, meaning the expected four-month trial will only decide if he receives a penalty of death or life in prison without parole. European Union countries have reached a deal to eliminate carbon emissions from new cars by 2035 following hard-fought talks that dragged into the early hours of Wednesday. The 27 EU members found a common agreement on draft legislation aimed at slashing EU greenhouse gases by at least 55% by 2030 compared with 1990 rather than by a previously agreed 40%. The FBI has opened a widening investigation into sex abuse in the Roman Catholic Church in New Orleans, looking specifically at whether priests took children across state lines to molest them. That's according to law enforcement officials and others familiar with the inquiry who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. Two of Congress' staunchest conservatives repelled more centrist challengers to lock up Republican nominations on Tuesday. That happened even as the party's voters chose to turn out a six-term incumbent in Mississippi. Illinois Republican Rep. Mary Miller, who called the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade a “historic victory for white life” during a weekend rally with former President Donald Trump — her spokesperson said she misspoke — defeated fellow GOP incumbent Rodney Davis. Another Trump ally, Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, one of Congress' most polarizing members, easily beat back a challenge from a more mainstream Republican. Mississippi Republican Rep. Steven Palazzo, a six-term incumbent, lost to Sheriff Mike Ezell. Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Wednesday that state troopers would set up additional truck checkpoints on highways in response to the migrant deaths inside of a tractor-trailer, but he did not say how many. The U.S. economy shrank at a 1.6% annual pace in the first three months of the year even though consumers and businesses kept spending at a healthy pace, the government reported Wednesday in a slight downgrade from its previous estimate for January-March quarter. Police say a Virginia toddler left in a vehicle for hours died and his father was found dead in an apparent suicide at their home. New York sued 10 ghost gun dealers for selling parts online. New York's recreational marijuana market is beginning to sprout, literally.
