Place des Fêtes aujourd'hui est dans le 06, en direct du Palais des Festivals de Cannes. On a même monté les marches avec Jean Fromageau. Le marché international du disque et de l'édition musicale qui avait été créé dans sa première mouture en 1967 mais que la crise du disque et le COVID ont fini d'achever. La Ville de Cannes a racheté la marque et a lancé l'année dernière MIDEM+. Ici on parle musique, business, technologie, innovation, mais aussi droits musicaux, par exemple. Et on y voit des concerts et des DJ sets. Il a mixé presque tous les albums de Depeche Mode, mais aussi de The Cure, Steve Lyon viendra nous voir dans notre studio temporaire au Palais des Festivals, en compagnie de la journaliste Alma Rota de Rolling Stone. Autre légende, le pince sans rire et si attachant Baxter Dury que j'ai rencontré autour d'un full English breakfast ce matin. Jean Fromageau nous présentera quelques-uns des jeunes talents repérés par ce MIDEM+ : Saturnz récompensée par le programme du CNM, Rappeuses en liberté, et Le Môme, jeune rappeur niçois. Last but not least, celui qui est le parrain de ce MIDEM+, figure tutélaire de la musique électronique en France, auteur des mots bleus de Christophe, qui a joué sur la Muraille de Chine, dans la Galerie des Glaces à Versailles et maintenant surtout à Oxyville, son métaverse : Jean-Michel Jarre que nous avons eu la chance de rencontrer hier ici au Palais des Festivals et qui nous raconte pourquoi il n'a pas hésité à apporter son soutien à la renaissance de l'événement cannois. Enfin c'est ce moment du mois, où Antoine Dabrowski fait semblant de s'y connaître en jeux vidéo grâce à la chronique d'Antoine Gailhanou qui nous parle de Portal 2, publié en 2011 par Valve, sur PC, avec une musique de Mike Morasky.

Chères auditeurices bonjour, ici LENPARROT sur la Tsugi Radio. Je suis ravi de vous retrouver pour ce nouvel épisode de Mélodies en Zigzag en direct depuis la Villette à Paris. Tous les troisièmes jeudis du mois, nous partons pendant une heure et demie à la découverte ou à la redécouverte de mélodies qui me sont chères. L'émission se déroule en deux parties : Le Grand Zigzag, une sélection commentée de mes coups de cœur du moment précédée par un Focus sur une artiste de mon choix – Avant/Après où l'on observe la trajectoire d'une mélodie à travers le temps. Bon, ça c'est ce qui se passe en temps normal sauf qu'aujourd'hui nous ne sommes pas le 3ème jeudi du mois mais le 4ème et que ce mois-ci j'ai confié les clefs de l'émission à une artiste qui m'est chère. C'est même – je vous l'ai déjà dit ici et je le pense toujours – l'artiste française qui me fascine et m'enthousiasme le plus, celle qui m'émeut mieux que quiconque, sur scène comme sur disque, réussissant à marier une inventivité mélodique d'une précision sonore et technique extrêmement exigeante avec une écriture aventureuse et bouleversante – mêlant français et anglais pour mieux aller sonder ses sentiments, faisant la part belle à l'amitié, l'amour, la découverte, la nature et la nuit. Dans la nuit, c'était d'ailleurs le titre de la chanson avec laquelle j'ai découverte Halo Maud en 2015 sur une compilation de La Souterraine, réécoutée inlassablement ainsi que quelques extraits de son concert à La Gaîté Lyrique. Puis nous nous sommes rencontrés au lieu unique toujours pour une Fête Souterraine où j'ai pu me prendre un coup droit/revers monumental avec ce concert, et entendre pour la première fois Des Bras en vrai. Depuis, Maud, je t'ai vue et revue autant que j'ai pu – sur la plage de la Route du Rock où j'étais tellement absorbé par ta reprise d'Arlt que je me suis tapé une insolation carabinée, quelques jours après ma release party au Point Ephémère en première partie d'Ulrika Spacek – où il eut été préférable d'inverser l'ordre tant votre live était une leçon de maîtrise. Au Stereolux aux côtés de Baxter Dury ou encore au festival Soy. D'ailleurs, ça commence à faire longtemps que je ne suis venu t'applaudir et j'ai hâte de m'y remettre, alors que tu viens d'annoncer la sortie de Celebrate en février prochain. LA QUESTION

Hak Baker, Benjamin Zephaniah, Celeste and Baxter Dury talk about writing whilst living in London, their view of success in their careers so far, and the impact of family and cultural history on their writing. Hak Baker was born in Luton and raised on the Isle of Dogs, in London. At a young age he was exposed to everything from reggae and dub to classic pop, R&B and soul via friends and family. His first introduction to performing was as part of the Southwark Cathedral choir, before moving towards grime and MC-ing at his local community centre. Later he learned to play guitar, and started writing songs about his experiences and those of the people around him, digging deep into everything from toxic masculinity to social inequality, identity and unity. This year he released his debut album World's End FM, which is presented as a pirate radio broadcast transmitting from the edge of the apocalypse. Benjamin Zephaniah is a novelist, playwright and musician, and one of the UK's best poets of the last 50 years. Born in Birmingham, he is influenced by the music and poetry of Jamaica and writes about race, politics and social injustice. He's recorded numerous reggae records and has worked with the likes of Sinead O'Connor and The Wailers. Celeste is an American-born British singer who has established herself as one of the finest soul singers in the UK right now. After winning the Brit Award Rising Star of 2020, she released her critically acclaimed debut album Not Your Muse, becoming the first female British solo artist in five years to reach number one with a debut album. Baxter Dury is a singer and musician known for his gritty vocals and witty, observant storytelling. His sound brings in influences from hip-hop to new wave, and in June of this year he released his new album I Thought I Was Better Than You, written with his teenage son Kosmo during lockdown.

North London DIY Icon Delilah Holliday once said she writes songs to make people feel less alone. Her band, Skinny Girl Diet, which she founded at the age of 14 with her sister Ursula and their cousin Amelia reignited a much needed Riot Grrl punk spirit, galvanising a community of like minded music lovers back in the early 2010s. With a mix of Streetesqe spoken word vocals and dirty dirty beats. GHGW are a heading mix of Queens market and a eastern European club. And I love it (to quote them). Ben, Bruce, and Simon discuss how they good started, their approach to making music, touring and playing live, and how London influences their sound. Good Health Good Wealth are East London vocalist/songwriter/producer Bruce Breakey and Lithuania-born guitarist/producer Simon Kuzmickas; two friends who met in a central London Wetherspoons a decade ago.   Like some of the best partnerships in the history of music, there's an odd couple quality to Good Health Good Wealth, but one that just seems to work. The pair have been winning fans with a sound that combines the poetic everyday storytelling of The Streets, Baxter Dury or Mac Miller with a taut, lightly funk influenced production style that takes its cues from everything from peak-era Neptunes productions to Justice, Daft Punk and Prince. Despite their differences, Bruce and Simon bonded over a shared love of everything from Action Bronson to Tom Waits and played together in a punk band for years. But it was when the covid pandemic struck that they decided to take things in a different direction.  With an almost spoken word delivery and knack for creating an inescapable melody, their songs have tackled everything from pining for the escape of the weekend while struggling without a job, to the thrill of finding new love in the city. Each new song showcasing Bruce's lyrical ability to bring the minutiae of the everyday to life with an almost cinematic quality. The Pixies are an American alternative rock band formed in 1986, in Boston, Massachusetts. Until 2013, the band consisted of Black Francis (vocals, rhythm guitar, songwriter), Joey Santiago (lead guitar), Kim Deal (bass, vocals) and David Lovering (drums). They disbanded acrimoniously in 1993 but reunited in 2004. After Deal left in 2013, the Pixies hired Kim Shattuck as a touring bassist; she was replaced that year by Paz Lenchantin, who became a permanent member in 2016. The Pixies are associated with the 1990s alternative rock boom, and draws on elements including punk rock and surf rock. Their music is known for dynamic 'loud-quiet-loud' shifts and song structures. Francis is the Pixies' primary songwriter; his often surreal lyrics cover offbeat subjects such as extraterrestrials, incest, and biblical violence. The band achieved modest popularity in the US but was more successful in Europe. Their jarring pop sound influenced acts such as Nirvana, Radiohead, The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer. In this episode a playlist of songs created by the Pixies and published in a popular music streaming platform (that shall remain unnamed) between December 2017 and July 2019. Baxter Dury is an incredibly talented musician and he's just released his sixth solo album, 'The Night Chancers' which is well worth a listen. Most of you will probably know he is also the son of Ian Dury of the Blockheads and he lives in the place where he grew up with his dad. For this week's Trash In The Attic, Baxter has a rummage around his flat in West London to find a brilliant collection of items that tell the most incredible stories. Le Voyage continue en Rhône Nord avec notre invité Julien Montagnon du Domaine du Lombard qui nous présente l'appellation Brézème, son histoire et son renouveau, notamment grâce à ses exportations aux Etats-Unis.  Le deuxième vin dégusté est du Domaine Colombo, appellation Cornas. Deux expressions très différentes qui révèlent toute la diversité de terroirs et du travail des vignerons pour tirer de la Syrah, cépage emblématique des Cotes du Rhones Septentrionales des vins tantot puissants ou plus légers, toujours élégants et complexes. Entre Lyon et Valence, les Vignes du Rhone Septentrional s'accrochent sur des pentes escarpées qu'on aperçoit depuis l'autoroute des vacances. Des appellations au Prestige mondial: Cote Rotie, Saint Joseph, Condrieu, Hermitage... Nous abordons la région avec Laurent Fayolle vigneron à Crozes Ermitage et en dégustant sa cuvée Les Pontets, un blanc plein de finesse et d'équilibre.  Puis il est question de la Syrah, cépage star du Rhone Nord, ses origines et ses propriétés, en dégustant un superbe Cote-Rotie du Domaine Chambeyron, cuvée L'Angeline. Profondeur, plénitude, puissance alliée à l'élégance, les superlatifs ne manquent pas pour décrire ce grand vin.  Sur le chemin, on évoque la figure emblématique d'Etienne Guigal "inventeur" du Rhone Nord moderne.
