The Detroit Lions kept stacking useful pieces. On this Detroit Lions Podcast, Jeff Risdon, Chris, and Michael Grey broke down three new additions, all on one-year deals. Edge DJ Wonnum, wide receiver Greg Dortch, and linebacker Raymond Clark arrived as targeted fits. Another signing could be coming soon. New arrivals and a one-year plan The front office is leaning into short-term, role-specific help. Each deal is a fill-in. The message is clear. Add competitive depth without blocking long-term answers. The hosts also noted movement on another potential addition, with word that another Jones could be in play. The expectation is more action today. Edge plan: DJ Wonnum and the Paschal template Wonnum checks the Lions' NFL edge profile. Physical style. Power to speed. Edge setter. He plays the run on the way to the quarterback better than he rushes the passer. That should sound familiar. Think the role carved out for Josh Paschal. Early in his career, this type has handled c gap and b gap snaps and bumped outside as needed. The vision is obvious. Wonnum can work five tech, set sturdy edges, and finish when opportunities come. He has starting experience and some sack production. He fits as a part-time player, likely edge three or edge four, depending on how the rest of the room shakes out. The depth chart mentions tied to this move matter too. Makai Wingo's best spot is still in question. Ahmed Hassanein's development is a variable. Levi Anserrique Reed has played outside and can handle five tech. The piece today is about defined jobs. Wonnum gives them one. Slot and return game: Greg Dortch's fit with Petzing Dortch brings juice to the slot and special teams. He is five-foot-seven-ish, around a buck eighty, and a proven return specialist from the Arizona Cardinals. He worked with Drew Petzing and spoke at length about that trust in his introductory Zoom. He talked about love of football again and again, and his energy jumped off the screen. Dortch has bounced around, was advised at one point to consider the CFL, then the Cardinals gave him a shot. He ran with it. He is very sure handed, with a high catch rate over recent years. In Detroit, he profiles as a quick separator and secure outlet who can flip field position in the return game. Linebacker depth and what comes next Raymond Clark adds competition at linebacker. Another one-year, role-focused piece. Special teams and sub-package snaps are in play. The Lions are not done. The hosts repeated that. Expect another signing, with indications that talks on another Jones are moving. This roster building approach matches the recent surge of part-time, short-term additions. It fits the moment. Add the right tools. Keep flexibility. Let camp sort the rest. #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #djwonnum #gregdortch #damoneclark #nflfreeagency Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Send us a textIn this live episode of "2 Giants Goofballs: A New York Giants Podcast," Drew and Rob dive into the latest updates and rumors surrounding the Giants, including a major change in the offensive strategy. Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed he'll be calling plays this season, taking over the role from offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, who held the position for the last two years. The Goofballs discuss the implications of Daboll's decision and what it could mean for Daniel Jones and the entire offense as the Giants prepare for the upcoming season.Next, the podcast covers the financial details of Adoree' Jackson's contract, which includes a $1.7 million cap hit but no guaranteed money. With difficult-to-reach bonuses for interceptions and playing time, the Goofballs speculate on Jackson's future with the team and how this contract structure reflects the Giants' plans for their secondary.Joe Schoen also makes headlines for an offhand comment caught on camera during the Bears' Hard Knocks. While watching the Georgia vs. Clemson game with Bears GM Ryan Poles, Schoen slipped up in a lighthearted conversation about quarterbacks, leaving fans curious if he forgot the cameras were rolling. As the Giants prepare to face the Minnesota Vikings, the Goofballs examine key matchups. Daniel Jones will face a revamped Vikings defense featuring veteran corner Stephon Gilmore, who joins the team at 33 years old. Rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers will be tested against the seasoned Gilmore in what promises to be an exciting matchup. On the flip side, Giants rookie cornerback Deonte Banks will be up against one of the NFL's elite receivers, Justin Jefferson, who is coming off an incredible season despite a mid-year hamstring injury. Banks, who struggled at times last year, will have his hands full in what may be his toughest challenge yet.The episode also dives into the Giants' strategy to contain Aaron Jones, the Vikings' big offseason signing. While Jones had a slightly down year in 2023, turning 30 soon raises concerns about his longevity. Drew and Rob discuss how the Giants' defense, led by Bobby Okereke and Dexter Lawrence, can slow down Jones, especially with Sam Darnold now under center for Minnesota. On the defensive front, the Goofballs analyze the Vikings' pass rush, which lost key players DJ Wonnum and Danielle Hunter in the offseason. With new additions like Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel, the Vikings' defensive line faces uncertainty. Drew and Rob break down how the Giants' offensive line, anchored by Andrew Thomas, will need to perform against a retooled yet vulnerable Vikings pass rush.Join Drew and Rob as they provide the latest news, updates, and rumors surrounding the New York Giants, from Daboll's play-calling shift to key matchups against the Vikings. React with us! The win, the Vikings win! They did holding onto their 21-13 point lead. The story of the first half of the game was dominated by turnovers. Despite there only being two interceptions, they had a significant impact on the game. The first interception was a result of Kirk Cousins throwing the ball late and behind, while the second interception occurred when Cousins got bumped as he released the ball, causing it to be lofted up into the linebacker's hands. The Minnesota Vikings had an impressive opening drive, marching down the field and reaching within the four-yard line. However, their momentum was abruptly halted when they turned over the ball. To make matters worse, the initial interception was returned all the way back for a 99-yard touchdown by the opposing team. Although the Vikings managed to regroup and score, closing the gap to just three points, their hopes were dashed when Kirk Cousins lofted his second interception during their drive to take the lead. The Carolina Panthers capitalized on this opportunity and quickly set up a field goal, giving them the lead at halftime with a score of 13-7. The second half began with a burst of energy from the Minnesota Vikings. Their defense made a crucial play as Harrison Smith executed a strip-fumble, causing Bryce Young to lose possession of the ball. DJ Wonnum was quick to react, picking up the loose ball and sprinting into the end zone for a touchdown. This defensive strip-fumble-touchdown ignited a fire within the Vikings' team and their fans alike. Buoyed by their defensive success, the Vikings continued their momentum and embarked on a scoring drive. With precise execution and strategic plays, they managed to find the end zone with a 30-yard pass to Justin Jefferson. The crowd erupted in cheers as the Vikings scored 14 unanswered points in the third quarter, establishing a solid 21-13 lead. As the game heads into the fourth quarter, the anticipation builds. Will the Minnesota Vikings maintain their lead and secure their first win of the season? Or will the Carolina Panthers mount a comeback and leave the Vikings and their fans frustrated? In today's episode of Two Old Bloggers - we are going to look at your Minnesota Vikings during the bye week. The team has five wins so far in the season and as the great Bill Parcells would say, “you are what your record says you are“, but are they? The obvious answer is yes, they are 5-1, but do the stats reflect that? We will also be looking at what kind of offense the Minnesota Vikings generated. Do they have a new identity? We all expected a high-flying pass-heavy system, but are we getting that? That is a very good question and we're gonna look back at last season and compare the two. You'll be a little surprised at what you see and hear in this case. Then we're going to do our bye-week quick hitters. Patrick Jones had a great game last week and is showing the depth that we have at the outside linebacker/edge rusher position. He and DJ Wonnum have put up some good stats in relief so far the season for Danielle Hunter and Za'Darius Smith and it is a bright light to see not a huge drop-off, or actually almost any drop-off whatsoever in play. Then there is how this team is staying healthy for the most part. There have only been two missed games by starters, one by Harrison Smith, and the other with DJ Wonnum. Compared to the rest of the league, that is outstanding! It turns out that the hiring of, Tyler Williams may have a thing or two to deal with that. We will find out on today's show. This and more today on 2OB. Here are the themes for the show: Theme #1: You are what your record says you are Theme #2: What kind of offense have the Vikings become? Theme #3: Vikings Bye Week Quick hitters Darren Campbell and David Stefano are the Two Old Bloggers. Both started public commentary on the Vikings two decades ago on various blogs. On tonight's episode of The Real Forno Show, the last one before the Minnesota Vikings training camp kicks off! With a new coaching staff and front office coming in, there are a lot of intriguing things to look at. Over the course of tonight's episode, myself and producer Dave will be looking into just that. -Can Kevin O'Connell take Kirk Cousins to a new level? -What does the running back room look like behind Dalvin Cook? -WR depth after Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen. Does KJ Osborn lock down WR3? Can Ihmir Smith-Marsette step up? -What ends up being the starting five on opening day? Does Garrett Bradbury get overtaken at center? Who wins the right guard job? -EDGE depth will be fun to watch. Patrick Jones II, DJ Wonnum and Janarius Robinson are the three competing for that EDGE 3 spot. -Who is the third starter along the DL? Watts? Lynch? Otomewo? -The top three linebackers are set with Eric Kendricks, Jordan Hicks and Brian Asamoah. Who gets the guaranteed fourth spot? Surratt? Lynch? Dye? Connelly? -The cornerback room has some talent now, but how does the order shake up? -Will Lewis Cine be the day one starter or does that go to de facto incumbent Cam Bynum? Strap in and join host Tyler Forness and producer Dave live tonight! Fan with us!!! The Minnesota Vikings have completed mini camp and the team is on vacation, but that doesn't mean things stop here. Two Old Bloggers with Darren and Dave discussing interesting Vikings storylines as we head towards training camp. The analytics and statgasm folks are all excited about Cameron Dantzler. Inspired by Will Ragatz's piece earlier in the week, it turns out The Needle overall looks pretty damn effective as a cornerback. This is both against the pass and especially against the run. That is something the Ed Donatell defense will need. Exactly how effective was he? Is Dantzler the best CB on the team? What does that mean for Patrick Peterson and first-round draft pick Andrew Booth? We take a deep dive and deep thoughts on the forgotten players. Who are they? They are the ones chosen in mid to late rounds by the previous administration that saw little or no time in games. Are they worth their selections if they were just long-term prospects? Were they just ignored by Mike Zimmer who was in win-now mode and Rick Spielman went rogue? 2OB will look at those great unknowns. DJ Wonnum had the most sacks of his career last year. A lot of fans think that he's a rising star because of it, but is he? Could he be forgotten when all is said and done at the end of training camp? What does Ed Donatell want him to do? What does he need to do to convert to a 3-4 defensive outside linebacker, a rush edge? Can he do it? Darren Campbell and David Stefano are the Two Old Bloggers. Both started their public commentary on the Vikings two decades ago on various blogs. They now do it via live streams on YouTube and Facebook. We appreciate your team fandom and that you take the time to enjoy it with us. Here are the themes for the show: Theme #1: The analytics crowd loves Cameron Dantzler [inspired by @WillRagatz] Theme #2: The great unknowns Theme #3: Will D.J. Wonnum be the forgotten man of the Vikings defense?
