In recent years, we have seen increasing requests for diagnoses related to autism, dyslexia, and other neurodiverse conditions. Often parents may feel that having a diagnosis is a golden ticket to access support, but this is merely a step in a long journey of understanding and support. Dr Susie Nyman joins Dale in the studio to discuss ‘Life's ups and downs of having or not having a special educational needs assessment', bringing her wealth of experience as a teacher and curriculum manager for Health and Social Care at Farnborough Sixth Form College. She highlights the emotional complexities parents face when deciding whether to pursue an assessment, including concerns about stigma and the impact of labels. Susie elaborates on neurodiversity, explaining that it recognises neurological differences as valid human variations. She notes that specific learning difficulties (SpLD) affect how information is processed and can present across various abilities. The conversation touches on the potential strengths of neurodiverse individuals, such as unique problem-solving abilities and creativity. Susie stresses the importance of creating supportive environments for neurodiverse students, emphasising that challenges often arise from mismatches between individuals and their surroundings rather than the individuals themselves. Susie advocates for understanding each student's unique needs and finding strategies that work for them. About Dr Susie Nyman Dr Susie Nyman is passionate about discovering how children learn and supporting them in ways which enable them to succeed. She was appointed as a Biology teacher at The Sixth Form College Farnborough in 1995, and subsequently as Curriculum Manager for Health and Social Care where she has worked ever since. Economy 2.0, which launched November 12 in collaboration with The Silvio Gesell Foundation, is a monthly series that investigates these pressing questions. Each episode will feature thought leaders, economists, and forward-thinking experts sharing their perspectives on the future of the global economy and the path forward. In the inaugural episode, host Josh Sidman will sit down with Prof. Steve Keen to explore what a post-status quo world might look like. Dr. Keen received his bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney and went on to complete his master's and Ph.D. in Economics and Economic History from the University of New South Wales. He is the author of several books on economics, of which the two most famous are Debunking Economics and The New Economics: A Manifesto. Both critique conventional economic theory. Dr. Keen has taught at the University of Western Sydney and Kingston University in London. He is currently leading the development of a software package called Minsky, a dynamics-based visualization tool for macroeconomic modeling. Together, we discussed why money should be considered multidimensional, why housing prices continue to skyrocket, and how a parallel currency of carbon credits could reduce overconsumption.
In this new episode of the Kate Bush Fan Podcast, Seán talks to Leah Kardos, author of the new book about Hounds of Love which is part of the acclaimed 33⅓ book series which examine key albums from music history. Leah is a musician, a senior lecturer in music at Kingston University in London, co-founder of that university's Visconti Studio (with producer Tony Visconti) and is also author of Blackstar Theory: The Last Works of David Bowie. A very enjoyable chat in which she discusses what made her pitch Kate's fifth studio album to the book publishers, her experience of writing the book as we emerged from a pandemic, the challenges of producing a smaller sized book like this and why it was important to her to emphasise Kate's pioneering production work and barrier-breaking career achievements. I highly recommend this excellent little book as the perfect Christmas stocking filler for the Kate Bush fan in your life!

In 2022, Preeti Macwan embarked on a Master's degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communication with Kingston University. We are, of course, huge fans of anyone willing to invest in professional qualifications and so were keen to learn more about what Preeti studied and what her most compelling takeaways from the course were. In this episode, Dom, Jen and Cat chat with Preeti to uncover what she learned about storytelling as a strategic communication tool and how her studies have shaped her thinking about the future of internal communication. Takeaways Training line managers is crucial for effective storytelling in organisations. Honesty, authenticity, and vulnerability are key values in storytelling. Recognising and celebrating successful storytellers within the organisation is important. The desire for employees to return to the office challenges the narrative of remote work. Transparency and authenticity are essential in organisational communication. Leaders need to be aware of their own style and adapt their communication to be authentic and relatable. Education plays a crucial role in preparing professionals for the corporate world and internal communication. Cultural differences can significantly impact leadership styles and the overall employee experience. The future of internal communication involves finding a balance between technology and human storytelling. Hybrid working offers a safety net and should be embraced to accommodate individual temperament and preferences. About Preeti Macwan Preeti Macwan has always been fascinated by human interaction, so studying communications felt like a natural course of action. She recently completed a master's degree in PR and Corporate Communications at Kingston University with a specific interest in internal and cross-cultural communications. LinkedIn profile:

In the Reaching More Readers podcast, Dale L. Roberts and Holly Greenland discuss five compelling reasons why authors should maintain an email list. They address the common perception that email marketing is crucial for an author's business despite some authors' reluctance to embrace it. The hesitations often stem from concerns about time and effort, technical challenges, fear of spamming, and a lack of understanding or concern over costs. However, Dale and Holly argue that email marketing does not demand excessive time, expertise, or financial investment. With a plethora of online tutorials and free email marketing services available, the primary barrier for many is simply inexperience—a starting point for everyone. Martin Heidegger is widely viewed as one of the most significant philosophers of the 20th century. His 1927 book Being & Time took issue with the entire Western intellectual tradition since Aristotle and suggested a new beginning for philosophy, which has been widely influential in philosophy and beyond. But Heidegger was a card-carrying member of the Nazi party, and there is considerable evidence that he held anti-Semitic views. What is the relationship between the Epochal work, and the opinions and actions of the man? Matthew Sweet discusses, with Maximilian de Gaynesford, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Reading, Peter Osborne, Professor of Philosophy at Kingston University, Daniel Herskowitz, British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow in Theology at the University of Oxford, and Donatella Di Cesare, Professor of Philosophy at Sapienza Universita di Roma.Producer: Luke Mulhall

**PLEASE NOTE: Today's episode contains adult themes and occasional language some might find offensive** Today on the A Pinch of Magick podcast I'm joined by Lucy H Pearce, an author, artist, and founder of Womancraft Publishing. We start off talking about how Lucy first got into writing. It's a story that many of you might find familiar—a need to express, to connect, to make sense of the world. Lucy shares how writing became her way of doing just that, and how it evolved into something much bigger than she could ever have anticipated. Then we get into the heart of what happens when you suppress that creative urge. Lucy's been there, and she talks about the toll it takes. It's a bit like holding your breath; at some point, you've got to let it out. Sharing your most honest work can be terrifying. Lucy knows this all too well, and she shares how she learned to get more comfortable with it. It's about finding that balance between vulnerability and strength, and she's got some tips that could help you do just that. Lucy explains that each book she brings into the world is like stepping out of her comfort zone abit more. It's a challenge, but one that she leans into, and she tells us why. We also touch on something a bit heavier—the sense of danger Lucy has felt in her own body when tackling certain topics. It's a reminder that creating a safe space for yourself is crucial, especially when you're pushing your own boundaries. Now, why is the feminine so often linked with darkness, with things that are considered 'bad'? Lucy and I delve into this, breaking down some of the cultural narratives that have shaped these beliefs. She believes that one of the biggest gifts she can give the world is breaking that silence, giving voice to those things that have been silenced or kept in the shadows. What does success look like to you? Lucy urges us to define that for ourselves, to step away from what society tells us it should be. It's about stepping into your own truth, and she's got some thoughts on how you can do that. We discuss Lucy's latest book, The Kitchen Witch Companion, and how it's more than just a collection of recipes. Lucy describes it as a journey into reclaiming our power, our magick, and our true hunger and desires. She also explains what magick means to her. We wrap up with a discussion about evidence, the importance of 'noticing,' and why life is never really 'done.' It's a constant process of change and evolution, and Lucy's next book, Crow Moon, is a testament to that. By the end of our chat, you'll walk away with not just answers to some big questions, but also a toolkit for navigating your own path. So, are you ready to dive in? About Lucy H. Pearce Lucy H. Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss the life, ideas and legacy of the pioneering Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus (1707 – 1778). The philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau once wrote: "Tell him I know no greater man on earth". The son of a parson, Linnaeus grew up in an impoverished part of Sweden but managed to gain a place at university. He went on to transform biology by making two major innovations. He devised a simpler method of naming species and he developed a new system for classifying plants and animals, a system that became known as the Linnaean hierarchy. He was also one of the first people to grow a banana in Europe.
