This is a story about roots. I wanted to know how Doug Henry became Doug Henry, the scrappy kid from New England who worked two jobs while trying to make it as an athlete. He was 14 when he entered his first race. He wasn't a promising amateur prospect, his gear didn't match, his bikes were held together by various fasteners found in the garage. He worked with what he had, not what he wanted. And where did that grit and resolve come from? To figure all that out, I visited Doug in Connecticut. He took me on a tour of the places that shaped him as a man and a racer. You can also read the print version of this article and see more photos of THE DAM. SUPPORT WE WENT FAST! On Friday before the Southwick National, New England fan favorites Doug Henry, John Dowd, and Jimmy Decotis stopped by the Monster Energy Stage to share some memories and talk about what they're doing today. For Dowd and Henry, the story is simple: the legends are now part of the Southwick track crew! Jimmy D, meanwhile, stepped away from racing two years ago and had been quiet since, but now he's back on the bike and working with young riders in the area. He's also planning to race Southwick for fun next year! The real kicker? The humble stories of Dowd and Henry. Did you know Doug came to Southwick as a fan, just watching on the fence, and then six years later he was the 125 National Motocross Champion? That's crazy, but for Doug Henry, it's normal. Enjoy the show. The Racer X Exhaust podcast is presented by Yoshimura, Leatt, and AOMC.

In 1997 the deep throated sound of a four stroke graced the ears of all that attended the Supercross finals in Las Vegas. Amongst the choir of high pitched racing it was Doug Henry aboard the YZM400F that took the podium. While that moment in the Las Vegas night was the shining example of change in the bikes that would line the gate, the YZM400F itself had a story of its own.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/Freebooter)

Seven hundred years ago, Dante wrote what has been called the most significant single poem ever written. He lived in a world not unlike our own. Fraught with both difficulty of brutal politics, climate changes, crop failure, famine, and disease and filled with beauty, wisdom, hope, and a sacred path forward. Dr. Doug Henry, head of Baylor University's Honors College, is part of a team from key Christian Universities who have partnered together to bring Dante's works alive in a unique project called 100 Days of Dante. What can Dante communicate to us in this day and age? Does he still have anything to say to us or offer us? Is his message relevant or valuable to us? Can it still challenge us? Absolutely yes, and it is just what we need for ourselves, our families, and our schools today!Learn more at 100 DAYS OF DANTEBIOGRAPHYDoug Henry is Dean of the Honors College. Doug Henry was a three-time AMA Motocross national champion in the 1990s. He was on the leading edge of a revolution in professional motocross racing by becoming the first prominent rider to race four-stroke machines in national competition against a sea of traditional two-stroke motorcycles. Just a few years after Henry became the first four-stroke rider in AMA Motocross history to win a national championship in 1998, AMA Motocross Championship racing would become almost exclusively the domain of four-stroke bikes. After retiring from motocross full-time, Henry went on to become one of the leading Supermoto riders in the world.
In this episode Zach Osborne sits down with national champion Doug Henry to talk about his career, his life altering injury, his dedication and desire, him riding again and his incredible positive attitude throughout it all.
There are few guests that bring as much joy on the show as Monster Energy/Star Racing/ Yamaha’s Wil Hahn. He’s truly one of the raddest, big-hearted people in our sport. We always enjoy catching up and he has lots to say about their early Yamaha success in the 250SX so far this season. Will Posey is just over a year removed from his motocross injury that resulted in spinal damage and paralysis. That makes his 2nd place to the legend Doug Henry at the X-Games Para Snow BikeCross last week even that more impressive. Will has deep roots in the sport behind the camera with our Wes Williams, too. We will hear about his inspirational story and his next challenge tonight.
