I had a ball interviewing the legends of entertainment on July 11, 2023. These four guys came together back in September 2021 as the world was opening up to give us all a show in New Jersey. Now, they are giving us music with a positive, fun vibe. They are ready to come together to bring a fun new sound. Are you ready to know the Legends? Roger Ortega recently released his third full album "Midwest Charm" in October and he released the single and video for "New York Vibe" featuring Nitty Green of the group RIFF, singer, songwriter L*A*W who has toured w/ Amy Winehouse, & worked w/ Lionel Richie, Bruno Mars and many more, as well as producer Edson Sean. Roger Ortega is a Spotify verified R&B/Pop recording artist. His record sales, performances, and songwriting open the door for him to be a registered voting member of The National Recording Academy. As a recently accepted member, amongst other things, he can officially vote for The Grammys and has been invited to attend since 2018. Roger has opened for acts such as Color Me Badd, Otown, Aaron Carter, Dj Pauly D and more. - L*A*W lives for entertainment and most fans know L*A*W as the singer/rapper/dancer/producer & multi-instrumentalist In Funk Legend George Clinton's 420 Funk Mob in the legendary P-Funk camp but millions have seen him on national television back at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards & David Letterman in his white kangol glory singing & dancing behind the late legendary British sensation Amy Winehouse as well as being her opening act for her sold-out shows in New York City with his own red-hot 7-piece musically diverse, high energy band, The Planet 12 Movement. After lending his many talents & over 40 licensed songs to various VH-1, NBA, TV-1, Oxygen, Bravo, A&E, Lifetime & popular MTV shows like "The Real World: Brooklyn & Hollywood", his Critically Acclaimed, 7-Time Grammy Nominated first album "Tha Planet 12 Syndrome" gaining acclaim from Lionel Richie, Diane Warren, EPMD, Ledisi, Rosanna Arquette, Ellen Barkin, Dru Hill, Chico Debarge, Megan Mullally (Will And Grace), Janelle Monae, Ice-T & The Late Teena Marie. L*A*W was #1 in the New & Now section of the Winter Edition of SESAC's Publishing magazine of 2013 & also co-wrote the theme song for the independent movie "We Are The Hartmans" as well as being featured in the movie as the bandleader. -Edson Sean is a singer, songwriter, emcee, & producer. Influenced by jazz, soul, and hip hop, he has combined live instrumentation with the rhythms of these genres overlaid with love-based lyrics. He has released several solo projects as well as created the collaborative super band, The Experi3ence. Edson produced all of Rogers' third studio album. -Michael Best, aka Nitty Green, is a member of the group RIFF, an R&B/Pop vocal group in Paterson, NJ. The group was formed while its members were teenagers attending Paterson's Eastside High School known for their scintillating and soul-stirring performance in the 1989 film, "Lean on Me", also known as the bathroom scene, the most popular scene in the movie. Michael Best, along with two of his fellow RIFF members, joined the group Men Of Vizion in the late 90's who also had 3 top 20 singles on the Billboard charts produced by Teddy Riley, Joe, Rodney & Fred Jerkins. Nitty released his solo single in April. These legends, aka "OGs" made and are still making a great impact in the entertainment industry, and they continue to show people that they still have what it takes to give the world great music. Their collaboration was spot on...New York Vibe Video Roger Ortega - ft. Law enforcement with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office shopped for Christmas presents with children over a three-day period last week for the Cherokee Sheriff's Foundation's annual "Shop with a Cop" event. About 240 kids took part in this year's events, according to the sheriff's office, purchasing gifts for the holiday season. In addition to "Shop with a Cop," the sheriff's office also delivered close to 100 bags filled with comforts items to the elderly in Cherokee County. The bags had everything from blankets and socks to crackers to help this holiday season. Both of these events are part of the sheriff's office "Christmas Joy" program. "We couldn't do it without our community support. Thanks to all who made donations to help support this program as well at those who purchased Calendars to support 'Christmas Joy,'" the sheriff's office said in a post on its Facebook page Friday. All funds are donated and come from the Cherokee Sheriff's Foundation.   Just two years into his stint as Woodstock's head football coach, Troy Hoff announced on Dec. 19 he would be resigning from the position. Hoff went 0-20 over two seasons with the Wolverines, with an 0-10 record in 2022. It was Woodstock's fifth straight year under the .500 mark. He was the Wolverines' sixth head coach since 1997. Before joining Woodstock in 2021, Hoff spent six seasons at Eastside High School in Newton County, Georgia. He amassed a 51-17 record with the Eagles and holds a 51-37 career record over eight seasons, starting in 2015. Woodstock had some notable college prospects on its roster this season, between offensive lineman Tyler Douthit and receiver/defensive back Adonis Garcia. Douthit had over 20 offers, including Power-5 programs, and announced his commitment to Samford on Dec. 5. Garcia committed to Wofford as a three-star defensive back. The Cherokee County School District recently celebrated its first students selected as REACH Georgia Scholars. REACH Georgia is the state's first needs-based mentorship and college scholarship program for middle and high school students. An eighth-grader from each CCSD middle school has been selected as one of CCSD's first REACH Georgia scholars. They are: Braxton Cox of Creekland Middle School, Violeta De la luz Mendoza of Dean Rusk Middle School, Caleb Massey of E.T. Booth Middle School, Patricia R. Garcia of Freedom Middle School, Matthew Green of Mill Creek Middle School, Ingrid Osorio-Carreno of Teasley Middle School and Ashley Gaspar-Morales of Woodstock Middle School. First launched from Georgia Tech in 2012, the REACH program is designed to encourage students to persist in their educational goals and interests. As part of Georgia's Complete College initiative, REACH seeks to identify rising eighth-grade students who display academic promise and provide them with the academic, social and financial support they will need to graduate from high school, attend and complete college. Three Cherokee County School District students have been selected for a scholarship to a flight academy where students can earn a private pilot's license. Cherokee High School Air Force JROTC Cadet Andrew Solano and Etowah High School Air Force JROTC Cadet Luke Foresman have won the competitive Air Force Chief of Staff 2023 Flight Academy Scholarship valued at $25,000. Cadet Sydney Watson of Cherokee High has been selected as an alternate. The Flight Academy is an eight-week summer program designed for Air Force JROTC cadets to earn private pilot certification. The program's overall goal is to improve the recruitment, retention and diversity of the Air Force and aviation industry. The Cherokee High School AFJROTC program is led by instructors Senior Master Sgt. Jeff Bise and Tech. Sgt. Jody Van Ostrand. The Etowah AFJROTC program is led by instructors Lt. Col. Email address: SHOW NOTES INTRODUCING AVA JANE TEASLEY!  Our guest today comes from the famed Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College?  Why do I say that?  Because I have interviewed a number of students from ABAC, and they always knock it out of the park. Ava Jane Teasley is majoring in agricultural communications.  She states that she wants to be the voice of the farmer.  After learning about her unique upbringing, I can see why.  Ava Jane's mother worked at an FFA camp when Ava was a kid.  So, she grew up at that camp, where they lived.  She saw and participated in the fun and growth that the older FFA kids experienced when they came there. I always ask my FFA student guests how long they have been part of the FFA.  Ava Jane's answer was unique, when she told me "all of my life".  Succeeding in the FFA was something that she was born to do, and she has certainly shown herself capable by becoming her chapter's secretary and the vice president of the Georgia State Officer Team as well as a national finalist in agricultural communications. REASONS TO DONATE TO FFA: Only 2% of Americans grow and raise most of the food and livestock consumed by the other 98% as well as the rest of the world.  FFA is providing the needed education, training and resources to Americans that will carry that torch forward and insure that America continues to have inexpensive, quality food. Rural Communities will rely on entrepreneurship in the future for population growth and job creation.  The FFA is a major catalyst to that entrepreneurial growth. Farmers, ranchers and those working in agriculture give the rest of America incredible amounts of freedom because the search for food is as simple as going to the grocery store: “The future of American agriculture depends on the involvement and investment in America’s youth, In order to prepare for the population of tomorrow, we need to encourage America’s youth today, and show that careers in agriculture are profitable, rewarding, and vital.”. Michael was born in the Ironbound section of Newark NJ in 1958. Born of Italian descent, and one of six children. He graduated from East Side High School in 1976. After high school, he mainly worked in his father's restaurant until he sold it in 1986. Although he was part of a very close and loving family, he seemed to always feel like something was amiss inside. His mother and father afforded him every opportunity to get ahead in life, but he always seemed to make the wrong decision. This continued to happen until June of 1987, which is when it seemed like his life went in a completely different direction. To Michael, it seemed that way because although his life got better on the material plane, he still did not have a sense of completeness within. Quotes from Michael [03:35] The reason why a person gets addicted to anything, is because the inward tells you to reach out for something. You need something to fill your void. [10:45] We're all addicts, we just use different things. Society only addresses the ones that are devastating. [11:18] If you can't just be with yourself, without needing to reach for something, that's the question. Why? [12:02] You become distracted by the distractions that distract you. [14:17] The thought is energy. It comes into your head, and what you do with it from there determines your life. [16:20] The labels that we apply to things, destroy us. They keep us entrapped in our suffering. That's what the conditioned mind is. [24:33] It's your own conditioning that limits you. Your own mind tells you to do something, and the same mind, questions why it was done. [28:36] The more that you can spend your life in the present moment, the more at peace you're going to be. [33:25] The older you get, the more conditioning you have, and the more of a puppet you become, and society is the puppeteer. [36:00] Your body is always in the present moment, your mind is all over the place. When you develop your body as an anchor, you put yourself in harmony with life, with universal energy. Timestamps. [14:58] How Michael embarked on his book writing. [18:13] Michael's experience and lessons learned while promoting his book. [21:24] Michael's experience with a fan Do you live a life that you've always wanted and you're still not happy? Are you not getting the most out of your life? Then it's time for you to look within and find out why. Joining us in the studio today is the author of It's Monday Only in your Mind, Michael Cupo. [01:56] The story behind the book, It's Monday Only in your Mind. Michael had addiction problems when he was young. He was, however, able to conquer his addictions when he was 28; got a job, got married, and even started a family. It was 13 years later though, that the real change happened. Although Michael's life was going on just fine, Perfect job, perfect family, perfect life. He couldn't help but think of how he was going to be there for his kids. This act of unselfishness is what caused the chain reaction leading to Michael's deep reflections and thoughts about his life. [8:07] Conquering his alcohol and drug addiction. Describing it as one of the most pivotal moments of his life, Michael's eldest brother died as a result of addiction. At the time, Michael was only 26 and knee-deep in drug and alcohol addiction. The death of their eldest son broke Michael's parents, who gave Michael the ultimatum of either straightening up or getting out. This began Michael's 2-year process of quitting his addictions. [23:32] The conditioned mind. What Michael presents, is the next step in the evolutionary process. When you don't need to reach for anything and you're o.k with who you are, just the way you are, just as it is. You're not looking to change what's happening in the present moment. It's your own conditioning that limits you. Your own mind tells you to do something, and the same mind, questions why it was done. Once you're able to start looking at yourself and understanding that it's you, that it's your own mind that's the enemy, it's when you start to understand the conditioned mind and you no longer blame the world. [32:30] The rat race The beginning stages of why humanity has developed the way it has is because, from the moment you're born, you're given a name. It's your attachment to that name that the problem begins. You spend the rest of your life identifying the name with jobs, marital status, social status, likes, dislikes, this, and that, and in the process, you fail to understand. You miss the process. You fail to understand what humanity's existence is all about. As your attachments increase every day, you lose your true essence, you lose who you truly are in the process. And you start looking more outside yourself for the answers. It's nobody's fault, of course, it just how humanity and society have designed itself. Remember Lean on Me, the movie of the New Jersey high school principal, Joe Clark?  He's sharing some insight today on your Monday Maxim. This your mental Vitamin B. Each Monday I share a little motivation & insight to start the week. You’ve got a lot of people depending on you. There is big work for you to do. So here’s a maxim for you, the smart, ambitious woman, to help you SHINE. “Self-respect permeates every aspect of your life.”  - Joe Clark I lived in New Jersey for nearly a couple years.  That's where I learned to speak Spanish. That area, Paterson, New Jersey, is where I was assigned as a missionary for my church. Our local congregation's leader lived right around the corner from Eastside High School in Paterson.  First, Crazy Joe had to kick out the drugs and problems and focus on those who were coming to school to learn. This is a perfect lesson for each of us today. Kick out the stuff that doesn't belong.  Focus on the good.  The respect you give yourself is the same respect that others give you. How do you start to give yourself respect?  You earn it. Be dependable.  If you say you are going to get up when the alarm rings, do it.  Don't hit snooze.  Get your feet on the floor and walk. It feels great once that warm shower hits your body. Commit to yourself. When you make a commitment to your family, friends, or work, you know that job will be completed.  That's what makes you a smart, ambitious woman.  What about you?  If you tell yourself you are going to exercise at 7:30pm, but someone needs your help... you push it aside, don't you?  Of course you have.  No more.  You can tell your family & friends, "Look, I will happily help you, but first, I'm going to do this..." then walk out the door, they may be stunnned.  But they know you are serious.  The people in your life aren't taking you seriously because you don't take yourself seriously.   Kick out the junk.  It's spring here in the Pacific Northwest.  I'm on a spring cleaning high!  I love getting rid of all the junk that has accumulated over the winter...(Where did all of that stuff come from, anyway???)  What is left is space to move and breathe.  A better environment for all of us here. It's the same with your habits.  You may have collected a few that are holding you back.  You know it's time.  Replace those habits with healthier ones and see how those tiny steps add up to big changes in your life.
