High school can be tough, especially when your mom (Piper Laurie) is a religious fanatic and all the cool girls in school (Amy Irving, PJ Soles, Edie McClurg) think you eat shit. It helps when your telekinetic powers kick in with your period and and the PE teacher, Ms Collins (Betty Buckley) pities you and next thing you know, Tommy Ross (William Katt) is inviting you to prom! Mean girl, Chris Hargenson (Nancy Allen) can't have that though so along with boyfriend Billy (John Travolta), they plot to knock Carrie off her prom night pedestal. We've got a true "good for her" story for you, this week on Doom Generation. Happy Mother's Day!

The gang is back in action with a new episode! This time the gang feature one of the most culturally influential movies of all time. Ferris Beuller's Day Off! This was of course during John Hughes time in the the 80s where he was directing and turning out hit movies like no other director! Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a 1986 American teen comedy film written, co-produced, and directed by John Hughes. The film stars Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara, and Alan Ruck, with supporting roles from Jennifer Grey, Jeffrey Jones, Cindy Pickett, Edie McClurg, Lyman Ward, and Charlie Sheen. It tells the story of a high school slacker, Ferris, who skips school with his best friend, Cameron, and his girlfriend, Sloane, for a day in Chicago, and regularly breaks the fourth wall to explain his techniques and inner thoughts. Hughes wrote the screenplay in less than a week. Filming began in September 1985 and finished in November, featuring many Chicago landmarks including the Sears Tower, Wrigley Field, and the Art Institute of Chicago. The film was Hughes's love letter to Chicago: "I really wanted to capture as much of Chicago as I could. Not just in the architecture and landscape, but the spirit." Released by Paramount Pictures on June 11, 1986, the film became the tenth-highest-grossing film of 1986 in the United States, grossing $70 million over a $5 million budget. The film received generally positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, who praised Broderick's performance, and the film's humor and tone. In 2014, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, being deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". The film was followed by a television series, starring Charlie Schlatter as the title character. A spin-off film titled Sam & Victor's Day Off, focusing on the two valets who took Cameron's father's Ferrari on a joy ride, is in development for Paramount+.

Larry and I continue our conversation where we left off with his attendance at Lenny Bruce's last performance. We then get into what it's like for an actor in the trenches constantly hustling for work. He tells me about freaking out Jerry Paris, learning from James Garner, and working on Escape From Alcatraz. Bonus: Clint Eastwood recites limericks, Edie McClurg's comedic chops, and the surreal atmosphere of interviewing people at an orgy. His new memoir, The Guy: A Cautionary Memoir, is available now and I can not recommend it enough. What's your favorite Thanksgiving movie? If you didn't say Planes, Trains and Automobiles, then what movie are you thinking of because it's the only Thanksgiving movie that matters. Unless you count Rocky with that one scene Pauly throws the turkey out the front door. The late great John Candy and comedy legend Steve Martin give the greatest comedic performances of their careers in John Hughes' buddy road trip comedy based on events he experienced. It's time to buy your kids a chocolate turkey, take a scenic cab ride through Wichita, Kansas and put your hand between two pillows. Gobble Gobble, you're f***ed!
We are celebrating Turkey Day here on Made You Watch… (a podcast) and for this episode, Adam has recommended Melanie watch the Thanksgiving classic Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, a film she was not allowed to watch as a kid due to the rapid-fire F-Bombs dropped. This John Hughes comedy stars the late great John Candy and the always funny Steve Martin as they attempt to get home for Thanksgiving. Hilarity ensues in the madcap flick. Conrad and Dan are exposed to Elvira for the very first time in this Patreon's Choice episode, and watch with delight as the busty horror movie host scandalises the small, conservative town she visits in search of her past... and the money she needs to fund her Vegas debut. Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988) stars Cassandra Peterson as the irrepressible Elvira, E. Morgan Sheppard as her scheming great uncle Vinnie, Daniel Green as the naive town hunk, Bob, and Edie McClurg as the hilariously shrewish Chastity Pariah. It's the kind of comedy they don't make any more, but it that a sad or a good thing? Does Elvira work for a dumbfounded international audience? Find out! Author's NotesFor the never-to-be-performed live show (what became the Valentine's trilogy), I needed someone from outside the circle to be delivering supplies to them, so I could set up that there was a second Zinnia out there. I have a couple of actors who are easy to get ahold of and can turn in quality voice recordings in a timely manner. Krissy is on that very short list. She's crazy busy with her own team but still manages to squeeze me in.It's a little-to-nothing role, so I said just give me something fun. She came back with this Edie McClurg voice out of nowhere that so delighted me that I had to put her in. And that was that. Or so I thought. When the time came to do the Mini Series, I started thinking about Mrs. Du Mer. How did she come to be in Massalia? When did she meet the Ladies? And what would make her an interesting lead? The concept I came up with and pitched to Krissy was: imagine Harley Quinn at 60 years old.And Dolores is a rock star. She had just been a jilted Russian, she's got a major role for us on the horizon, so I was sort of keeping her in reserve until that point. But the more Viviana developed, the more I knew I needed a seasoned pro to hold her own against Krissy. Luckily she was able to squeeze it in before she stepped up to the director's chair for a theater group. The recording session was one of the best I've ever been involved in. The rehearsal had the hairs on my arms standing up! Afterward, I realized I wasn't ready to say goodbye to these characters just yet. There's more of their story yet to be told.Oh, and the title? Of course, it's from Moana. Lin-Manuel, the heir apparent to Howard Ashman in the Disney legacy. A heroine who chooses compassion instead of battle? That's a very Swashbuckling ideal that we connect with.
It was Melanie's birthday and she showed Adam her favorite Disney movie The Little Mermaid (1989). They compare the Howard Ashman score and revisit the past Made You Watch episode Howard, discuss why a fork is just a tiny trident, and how Sabastian has the best songs in this Disney classic. Edie McClurg has been in the entertainment industry since the early 70's! Tonight is dedicated to her array of characters and talent!
With so many people's drama suddenly exploding into chaos, how is SYDNEY the pivot point? Well: she lets it slip in conversation with Peter that she slept with Kyle at the restaurant. Taylor walks in just in time to hear Peter confronting Kyle about it. And Kyle's at the center of a lot of eavesdropping action: first, when an ordered-to-couch-rest Alison overhears Taylor admitting to Kyle that Peter was once her brother-in-law, which Alison goes on to tell Jake; then, when Sam overhears Kyle telling Sydney that the news is out about their hookup. Oh, and: Sydney is the victim of an obvious slip-and-fall scam artist played by Edie McClurg! Somehow, Megan's arrest makes it to the newspaper of a large metropolitan city, causing her scandalized landlady to evict her on 24 hours' notice. Megan self-pities her way through the next couple of days, moving into a cheap motel and leaving all vestiges of her life with Michael back at her vacant house for him to collect. And Chelsea continues to be a pain in all surviving Fieldings' asses. Rejoice!
