Academy Award-nominated actress Amy Irving has announced her sophomore album, Always Will Be, featuring 10 electrifying renditions of songs from her longtime friend Willie Nelson's iconic catalog. The album includes contributions from Amy Helm, Louis Cato, Steve Earle, Chris Pierce, Lizzie No, and Willie himself, and is due out on April 25 via Queen of the Castle Records/Missing Piece Records. Amy Irving and Willie Nelson's decades long friendship began when the pair first met on the set of the 1980 film Honeysuckle Rose. After dueting on a reimagining of his song "I'm Waiting Forever" for her 2023 debut album, Nelson reached out to Irving with a proposition: Why not record another album, one comprised entirely of his own work? Irving took him up on the offer, and the result is an incredibly heartfelt album, one that is rooted in love and friendship. Over Irving's prolific career, she has been seen in Brian DePalma's Carrie and The Fury, stage performances of Romeo & Juliet with the Los Angeles Shakespeare Society and Broadway's Amadeus. Irving was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in Yentl, and has captivated audiences with beloved starring roles in films including Crossing Delancey, The Competition and Micki and Maude.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.

Amy Irving's film career soared in the 1980s. She was featured in the film Yentl, a role that earned her an Academy Award nomination. In the movie Crossing Delancey, Irving plays a single woman who falls in love with a pickle merchant. In real life, Irving married Steven Spielberg, a relationship that ended in divorce. She co-starred with Willie Nelson in the film Honeysuckle Rose and that was the beginning of a life-long friendship with Nelson. Irving's career has shifted away from acting and towards music. She's got a new album which features Willie Nelson covers. It's called Always Will Be. I spoke to Amy Irving at her home in Westchester about singing as a second act and what it's like to be an older woman in Hollywood. “Now What?” is produced with the help of Steve Zimmer, Lucy Little and Jackie Schwartz. Audio production is by Nick Ciavatta.

My crush on William Katt began decades ago with the tumbling blonde spirals of Tommy Ross in Carrie, the close-cropped Sundance, to the shorter golden curls of Pippin… it wasn't just the hair, of course… that face, the smile, his voice… the whole damn package. Like millions of other baby boomers, he had us swooning for years. How lovely to sit down with Bill, these almost 50 years later, to discover he's still got that boyhood charm, mischievous sense of fun, with just a teeny touch of bad boy (note him playfully admonishing his wife when she sneaks into the “set.” And, the au courant platinum do, and facial hair he's currently sporting still make him a handsome standout. That's the trivial superficialities - but, what do you expect when you're talking about a movie star heartthrob? Well, there is the laid-back, easy-going, real as-beans, straight-shooter, who was crazy fun to chat with and get his inside perspective on his parents, actors, Bill Williams (Kit Carson) and Barbara Hale - loved to learn that she was also funny- Betty White funny, and inspired at least one woman to great professional heights, on Angie Dickenson, his first TV co-star, his passion for theatre, always, working with Bob Fosse, and Ben Vereen, Auditioning for George Lucas, to play Luke Skywalker with Kurt Russell as Hans Solo - doing a great job, instead being cast by Brian DePalma in his seminal work, Carrie, alongside his friend, and perhaps for a brief moment something more, Amy Irving, visited on the set by Steven Spielberg, perhaps where that all began, alongside beloved Nancy Allen (who is responsible for connecting me with Bill, making this conversation possible), John Travolta, Betty Buckley, Piper Laurie, Cissy Spacek-some great stories there, we talked about The Greatest American Hero, and the risk back then of going from film to TV, working with Robert Culp, and Connie Selleca, House, and George Wendt, great Sci-Fi with The Man From Earth, why he no longer does theatre, does only good films for friends, like last years' Pursuit with John Cusack and an upcoming film with Alfred Molina. We talked about music throughout his life, bands in high school, playing clubs later on, a pop hit, lots of musical theatre culminating with Pippin and Fosse, and a musical about and working with, Randy Newman, which his love for came out his pores when describing, to his current passion Jazz project. William Katt is a Renaissance man. We already know he looks great in tights. What FUN!!!! Will Marie ever forgive Griffin for inviting Bobby Wagner on a date to visit Bradley Cooper's Philly cheesesteak truck instead of her? Will David ever forgive Griffin for comparing the Maestro to Will Smith? The Rage: Carrie 2 was not a box office success, but it wasn't the disaster a lot of people remember either. Finishing at #91 for the year, just ahead of Go and (somehow) just behind the Melissa Joan Hart/Adrian Grenier vehicle Drive Me Crazy, The Rage: Carrie 2 opened in late March at an impressive #2 behind the 1999 comedy hit Analyze This. But it didn't quite make back its budget, and it as since largely been forgotten about. Which is a shame, because it has a lot to offer. While the film was initially called The Curse and had nothing to do with 1976's Carrie, the similarities led the studio to call for a retooling that set the production back a couple years. And actor Amy Irving, who played Sue Snell in the original, was called in to reprise the role. A last-minute change of director (Poison Ivy director Katt Shea) further impacted the production. But both the fact that The Rage: Carrie 2 finally hit cinemas just a few weeks before Columbine, and its use of a real-life true crime story (the notorious Spur Posse) has led to a lot of revision of its legacy in the quarter century since. As such, we invited horror fan and true crime guy Paul Haynes (collaborator on Michell McNamara's 2018 book I'll Be Gone In The Dark) to talk it out with us.

But her forward-thinking father does indeed teach her the sacred texts. When her father dies, Yentl cuts her hair, leaves town, finds a religious school, and takes on the name Anshel so that she can become a Jewish scholar. The film is directed by and stars Barbra Streisand. Welcome to the final week of Mother's May(hem) on Slashers Podcast! A month long event where we discuss horror films that highlight the joys and terrors of motherhood. Today Ade, Austin and Lance discuss 1999's The Rage: Carrie 2! Also, today's episode is so special because for the first time ever in Slashers Podcast history, all 3 hosts LIVE IN FLORIDA. Your degenerates await you! This film was initially intended to be a standalone, but was reworked to be a sequel to everyone's favorite telekinetic, teen angsty, Stephen King character 1974's Carrie. Written by Rafael Moreu and directed by Katt Shea, it stars Emily Bergl as Rachel Lang, a young goth chick who witnesses her best friend in a horrific accident (trigger warning) and must navigate the hell that is high school, all while her own mother is locked away in an institution for schizophrenia. Anyway, much like its predecessor, our protagonist does discover she has some special abilities, but unlike Carrie, Rachel seems to keep them on the back burner until our final act. The film also stars other 90s favorites such as Jason London (Dazed and Confused), Rachel Blanchard (Clueless), Dylan Bruno (Saving Private Ryan), Zachery Ty Bryan (Home Improvement), Mena Suvari (American Pie), Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Pie), J. Smith Cameron, and Amy Irving reprising her role as Sue Snell from Brian de Palma's Carrie. While this movie was initially a flop, it has since developed a cult following. And while it may not hold a candle to his first installment, it's still pretty damn good. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts!! “Born In A Trunk” She may have been born in the Bay Area, but Amy Irving might as well have been born in a theatre. Her father was the film and stage director Julius Irving and her mother was the actress Priscilla Pointer. And what happens when you have theatre parents? Well, you're in the theatre. A lot. And then you're on the stage. A lot. And then it's in your blood and there's no turning back. Amy Irving got her start on the stage at 9 months old and from there she never stopped. She studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, landed in L.A. and almost immediately started landing role after role in movies and television. What movies and what television, you might be asking? Well, in the movies category she was in Carrie, Delancey Street, The Competition, Honeysuckle Rose and Yentil. She was also the singing voice of Jessica Rabbit in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? As for television, she was on Police Woman, Happy Days and Once An Eagle with Sam Elliott and Glenn Ford. And not only was she working regularly in those mediums, she was still a busy theatre actor, appearing in Amadeus, Romeo and Juliet, Blithe Spirit and The Glass Menagerie. Along the way she picked up an Oscar nomination, a few Golden Globe nominations and she won a Screen Actors Guild Award. Now this is all just a partial list, but the fact of the matter is, from the big screen to the small screen to the stage, Amy Irving has always been a very busy working actor. Which brings us to Born In A Trunk, which is Irving debut album. Produced by Goolis, Born In A Trunk is a ten-track collection of songs that are culled from her life and career. She covers numbers by Willie Nelson, Tom Waits and Death Cab For Cutie. And The result? Well, not only a compelling and riveting listen, but an album whose song cycle combines to tell the story of a life on the stage and a career in the arts. Why write a memoir when you can sing one, right? And, boy can Amy Irving sing. Her precision, her timbre, her effortless phrasing and her sheer musical poise make Born In A Trunk one of 2023's great surprises. Amy was brought up in the world of theater. She was put on stage from the time she was nine-months-old, her father was the director and her mother was the actress, they didn't want baby sitters for their children, so if she wasn't performing, she would stay in the wardrobe department or her mother used to put her in the second row center where she could watch her. And, before she was 10-years-old, she had already worked in several plays. At a young age, Amy Irving was trained at the American Conservatory Theater and Britain's London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (L.A.M.A.D.A.). She made her off-Broadway debut at the age of 17 and, from that moment to date, she received critical acclaim, appearing in such plays as: "Heartbreak House" (1983), "The Road to Mecca" (1988), "Broken Glass" (1994), "The Three Sisters" (1997), "The Guys" (2002), "Ghosts" (2002) and "Celadine" (2004), among others. In 1976, Amy made her film debut, playing "Sue Snell", one of her most unforgettable characters in Stephen King's Carrie (1976), a classic in the horror genre, taken to the big screen by director Brian De Palma. For the next few years, Irving continued working in important films, The Fury (1978), also directed by De Palma, Voices (1979) and The Competition (1980). Later, in 1983, she gave a fine performance as "Hadass", in Barbra Streisand's Yentl (1983), and won an Oscar nomination for her great work in that successful film. Two of her best opportunities arrived in the late 80s, when she played "Anna Anderson" in Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna (1986) and "Isabelle Grossman" in the romantic comedy, Crossing Delancey (1988); she received a Golden Globe nomination for each movie.  She went on to starring roles in Voices, Honeysuckle Rose, The Competition and Micki and Maude. In 2023 Amy released her album -BORN IN A TRUNK- featuring ten cover songs pulled from her life and career. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
