After being stymied by streaming services on a few other options to continue May's Roger Corman retrospective, we land on another Alien-style knockoff. This one does divide Brandon and Steve a bit and give a glimpse in their different movie-grading criteria. Brandon likes this one for it's splattery, campy toplessness. Steve expects more in terms of production value, set design, and writing. Tell us if you've heard this before. An experiment goes wrong at a space research facility. Expert problem-solver is sent in to investigate the problem. He recommends killing the troublesome critter while it's small and containable. Scientists disagree and ask him to sleep on it. By morning, it's too late and the critter has become ginormous and is killing everyone. In addition, Steve airs some grievances he has with AMC theater's new contactless policies and Brandon mentions a couple cultural differences he noticed while on holiday in Scotland. Steve continues with the next chapter in his Roger Corman biography. Forbidden World Final Grades Steve: James Cameron wasn't in the building for this one, so this iteration of a Corman knock-off of a previous Alien-knockoff falls flat. Can't get over the styrofoam trays as walls. Good special effects don't make up for being well below-average in every other respect. 2.46/5 Brandon While this wasn't as "good" a movie as Galaxy of Terror, the campy, splattering Skinemax qualities hit in the "entertainment" category slightly better than its predecessor. Acting scared of a thing you can see is easier than acting scared of a thing you haven't seen, so the flick had an easier formula to pull off. 4.02/5 Cocktail of the Week: Forbidden Sour 1 1/2 oz Your Favorite Bourbon 1 oz Pomegranate Liqueur 1/2 oz Fresh-Squeezed Lemon Juice 1/2 oz Simple Syrup Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into lowball/rocks glass and garnish with a lemon slice. Cocktail Grade: Pomegranate adds a slightly different flavor profile to one of our favorite cocktails. A nice twist on the classic whiskey sour. Would definitely drink again. 5/5 ------------------ Contact us with feedback or cocktail/movie recommendations to: boozeandbmovies@gmail.com X: @boozeandbmovies Instagram: @boozeandbmovies Threads: @boozeandbmovies www.facebook.com/boozeandbmovies --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/boozeandbmovies/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/boozeandbmovies/support

In this episode, we talk about Chapters 7, 8, and 9 of Foundation and Earth, "Leaving Comporellon," "Forbidden World," and "Facing the Pack." I've largely stopped bothering with the spoiler warnings, but I'm going to spoiler enough in this episode description to warrant one. If you want to discover things as you read and you haven't read these chapters yet, you know what to do. Tau Ceti is the nearest "sun-like star" to Earth that isn't in a multiple-star system and so it's been a frequent locale in Science Fiction over the years. It was a natural choice for Asimov to place Aurora, the first of the Spacer Worlds, in the Tau Ceti system. Since Asimov made that decision, we've discovered and cataloged thousands of exoplanets, that is, planets orbiting stars other than our sun. Several of them are in the Tau Ceti system and two, Tau Ceti d and e, are super-Earths that appear to be at the outer edges of Tau Ceti's habitable zone. That seems to fit what we learn about Aurora in this book; it was a terraformed world that, without humans to maintain it, was slipping back into uninhabitability. There is another, proposed, exoplanet orbiting Tau Ceti, called PxP-4. That one could be smack in the middle of the habitable zone. In any event, it's time to return to the Tau Ceti system and take a good look around. Also, there are dogs! So Let's go!

Skinamarink! Just the sound of the word can cause you to wake in terror and stare at your walls for hours and hours. And that's just the Sharon, Lois and Bram song! Made for $15,000 in the hinterland of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and starring an Oilers jersey and a few people that you never see, Skinamarink is an experimental film that tries to immerse you in the dark so that it can recall your middle-of-the-night childhood nightmares. We made it through, but is this movie good for you? Tune in to find out. But first, in our mini review segments we put on our lab coats and hypothesize some Scientific Horror! Dogs in microwaves, takeout containers used to construct sets...what doesn't this episode have?
We eat up the FORBIDDEN WORLD, discussing the theme of humanity's insatiable hunger, the delightfully bizarre nature of the film and its creature, and more!
Our celebration of FORBIDDEN WORLD continues with a conversation with makeup effects artist Mark Shostrom (EVIL DEAD II, PHANTASM II & III, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 1-3) who got his start at New World Pictures, working at the Lumberyard for Allan Holzman's FORBIDDEN WORLD and Aaron Lipstadt's ANDROID! But Mark's work at New World didn't stop there! We'll talk about his work on RAW COURAGE, THE BOYS NEXT DOOR, a brief stint on SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE and almost working on HEATHERS! Mark also tells stories about EVIL DEAD II, PHANTASM II, and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2 & 3! This is an episode you don't want to miss!
If you're going to celebrate Forbidden World July, what better movie to discuss than the one that inspired it all! That's right, it's time to discuss Allan Holzman's sci-fi classic, including topics like, how hot is Jesse Vint? Are those masks or cups? How important is a good steam? And who exactly was hooking up with who on this horny scientific space station? Plus, Marc reaffirms his love of a horror franchise, Erica delights in the potential for hyper-sleep, and Ryan reveals an alternate version of a classic Forbidden World behind-the-scenes story.
Forbidden World month starts off with a blaster beam bang as we talk to the film composer, Susan Justin, who also worked on music for several other New World Pictures films like FIRECRACKER, GRUNT! THE WRESTLING MOVIE and STRYKER! We discuss her musical beginnings and her collaborations with Craig Huxley that led to the unique sound that is the FORBIDDEN WORLD score and their subsequent collaboration, THE FINAL TERROR! Plus, Marc gets to nerd out about synthesizers, we bandy about several t-shirt ideas, and Susan discusses her near addition to one of the biggest rock bands of all time!

Today Sickies we are dipping back into the Roger Corman collection of schlock. Ahhhhh Corman, will you ever run out of movies for us to review? This particular flick, borrowing heavily from Alien, Star Wars, and…his other work, is about a genetic monster thing which hunts people down between scenes of passion, just like a good Corman movie should. And no, Rage does not have an unhealthy attraction to the editor.
Continuing our look at the work of Roger Corman, we have Forbidden World and Dead Space. These two films are an example of how B-Movies are created, recreated, and reused to save money, time, and resources. These films are not only influenced by contemporary films, they also borrow from Corman's previous films, with Dead Space actually a remake of Forbidden World. These are prime examples of how profitable movies can be made on a budget and how the influence and cost of one film can be spread out over several. These are spectacular Sci-Fi space adventures and pure cinematic fun. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rabidcandypodcast/support
In this week’s episode, the cosmonauts over at Forever Midnight got a distress call from a “Forbidden World” (1982), so they flipped the tiny hyperspace switch, wiggled around for a few minutes and were there in a jiffy to investigate! What they didn’t expect was having to battle a wicked-ass space-mutant made of trashbags, vaseline and some massive styrofoam teeth. Luckily for the (forbidden) world’s best horror hosts, they used their vast scientific knowledge and punched at the mutant with a honkin’ cancer steak until the monster chundered fro-yo all over the lab. When innards become outtards, it’s pretty much a typical day for the FM3. Now it’s time to hit the sauna and show everyone our scars… it’s tough saving the universe one episode at a time, but some podcast’s gotta do it!

In the distant future, at a genetic research station located on the remote desert planet of Xarbia, a research team has created an experimental lifeform they have designated "Subject 20". This lifeform was built out of the synthetic DNA strain, "Proto B", and was intended to stave off a galaxy-wide food crisis. However, Subject 20 mutates rapidly and uncontrollably and kills all of the laboratory subject animals before cocooning itself within an examination booth. After Subject 20 hatches from its cocoon, it begins killing the personnel at the station, starting with the lab tech charged with cleansing the subject lab of the dead animal test subjects. Professional troubleshooter Mike Colby, accompanied by his robot assistant SAM-104, is called in to investigate the problem. After Colby settles in, his decision to terminate Subject 20 to prevent further deaths is met with research-minded secrecy and resistance. The staff of the station includes the head of research, Gordon Hauser, his assistant Barbara Glaser, lab assistant Tracy Baxter, the stations head of security, Earl Richards and Cal Timbergen, the chief bacteriologist. Zu den Mitarbeitern der Station gehören der Forschungsleiter Gordon Hauser, seine Assistentin Barbara Glaser, die Laborassistentin Tracy Baxter, der Sicherheitschef der Station, Earl Richards und Cal Timbergen, der Chefbakteriologe. As Subject 20 continues to kill most of the station crew, the reason for the deception is revealed. Subject 20s genetic design incorporates human DNA, and its method of killing is to inject its prey with the Proto B DNA strain which then proceeds to remove all genetic differences within specific cells. The result is that the victims living body slowly erodes into gelatinous pile of pure protein which Subject 20 consumes for sustenance. After its final mutation, where the creature evolves into a huge insect-like being with a large mouth full of sharp teeth, the creature is slain when it eats Cals cancer-ridden liver, its body genetically self-destructing from within. The staff of the station includes the head of research, Gordon Hauser, his assistant Barbara Glaser, lab assistant Tracy Baxter, the stations head of security, Earl Richards and Cal Timbergen, the chief bacteriologist. After its final mutation, where the creature evolves into a huge insect-like being with a large mouth full of sharp teeth, the creature is slain when it eats Cals cancer-ridden liver, its body genetically self-destructing from within.
jQuery(document).ready(function(){ cab.clickify(); }); Original Podcast with clickable words https://tinyurl.com/yy6dshe9 Forbidden World, originally titled Mutant, is a 1982 American science fiction-horror film. Scannán uafáis ficsean eolaíochta Meiriceánach 1982 is ea Forbidden World, dar teideal Mutant ar dtús. In the distant future, at a genetic research station located on the remote desert planet of Xarbia, a research team has created an experimental lifeform they have designated "Subject 20". Sa todhchaí i bhfad i gcéin, ag stáisiún taighde géiniteach atá suite ar phláinéid iargúlta fhásach Xarbia, chruthaigh foireann taighde cruth beatha turgnamhach a d'ainmnigh siad “Ábhar 20”. This lifeform was built out of the synthetic DNA strain, "Proto B", and was intended to stave off a galaxy-wide food crisis. Tógadh an cruth saoil seo as an mbrú sintéiseach DNA, "Proto B", agus bhí sé i gceist géarchéim bia ar fud an réaltra a chosc. However, Subject 20 mutates rapidly and uncontrollably and kills all of the laboratory subject animals before cocooning itself within an examination booth. Mar sin féin, déanann Ábhar 20 mutates go tapa agus go neamhrialaithe agus maraíonn sé na hainmhithe go léir atá faoi ábhar saotharlainne sula ndéantar iad féin a chócaráil i mboth scrúdaithe. After Subject 20 hatches from its cocoon, it begins killing the personnel at the station, starting with the lab tech charged with cleansing the subject lab of the dead animal test subjects. Tar éis Ábhar 20 goir óna cocún, tosaíonn sé ag marú an phearsanra ag an stáisiún, ag tosú leis an ardteicneolaíocht saotharlainne a bhfuil sé de chúram air saotharlann ábhair na n-ábhar tástála ainmhithe marbha a ghlanadh. Professional troubleshooter Mike Colby, accompanied by his robot assistant SAM-104, is called in to investigate the problem. Glaoitear an fabhtcheartóir gairmiúil Mike Colby, in éineacht lena chúntóir robot SAM-104, isteach chun an fhadhb a imscrúdú. After Colby settles in, his decision to terminate Subject 20 to prevent further deaths is met with research-minded secrecy and resistance. Tar éis do Colby socrú isteach, déantar rúndacht agus frithsheasmhacht in aghaidh an taighde a chinneadh chun Ábhar 20 a fhoirceannadh chun tuilleadh básanna a chosc. The staff of the station includes the head of research, Gordon Hauser, his assistant Barbara Glaser, lab assistant Tracy Baxter, the stations head of security, Earl Richards and Cal Timbergen, the chief bacteriologist. Cuimsíonn foireann an stáisiúin an ceann taighde, Gordon Hauser, a chúntóir Barbara Glaser, cúntóir saotharlainne Tracy Baxter, ceann slándála an stáisiúin, Earl Richards agus Cal Timbergen, an príomh-bhaictéareolaí. As Subject 20 continues to kill most of the station crew, the reason for the deception is revealed. De réir mar a leanann Ábhar 20 ag marú an chuid is mó de chriú an stáisiúin, nochtar cúis an mheabhlaireachta. Subject 20s genetic design incorporates human DNA, and its method of killing is to inject its prey with the Proto B DNA strain which then proceeds to remove all genetic differences within specific cells. Ionchorpraíonn dearadh géiniteach Ábhar 20 DNA an duine, agus is é an modh marú atá aige ná a chreiche a instealladh leis an mbrú DNA Proto B a théann ar aghaidh ansin chun na difríochtaí géiniteacha go léir laistigh de chealla ar leith a bhaint. The result is that the victims living body slowly erodes into gelatinous pile of pure protein which Subject 20 consumes for sustenance. Is é an toradh atá air seo go ndéanann corp beo an íospartaigh creimeadh go mall i gcarn geilitíneach de phróitéin íon a ídíonn Ábhar 20 le haghaidh cothaithe. After its final mutation, where the creature evolves into a huge insect-like being with a large mouth full of sharp teeth, the creature is slain when it eats Cals cancer-ridden liver, its body genetically self-destructing from within. “That's about the stupidest idea I've heard all day.” The distinguished professors discuss the Roger Corman-produced Alien-knockoff The Dingwhopper – oops, it's actually called Forbidden World. Topics include the magic of Jim Wynorski, the dingwhopper's unfortunate resemblance to Audrey II, competent set design and lighting, the ubiquity of footage from Battle Beyond the Stars, the patience of Alien, the epistemological problems posed by random flashbacks, the lies told by the movie poster, the dinner scene from Alien (and Spaceballs), eating while covered in alien biohazards, Underalls and plastic stripper heels, onanistic whirligigs, lack of sense of space/ place, the steam bath and yellowish-tinted shower scenes, the weird role of sex and nudity here, the wistful diegetic sounds of the space clarinet, the mistakes of taking the movie outside and showing the monster too much, Dead Space and Marc Singer, and the ultimate test of visual storytelling: being able to understand a movie with the sound off. Things we mention: Alien MCU Justice League Flash Gordon Spaceballs Young Frankenstein Dark Crystal --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/because-you-watched/support

Who would have imagined a movie full of space monsters and nudity could be so dull? On this episode, Doug admits to having trouble following the movie but was kinda into the soundtrack, while Jamie recommends that listeners get naked and do a Web MD search. For what? She never explains. Join us as we cover a movie that wants to be Alien but only has one hallway to work with. Please provide a rating and review wherever you get the episode. 2 sci fi horror movies that are worth watching late at night with a group of friends
"Alien" (1979) and its sequel "Aliens" (1986) have influenced countless films in their wake. They both have possibly created, and definitely have made previously existing tropes popular, cementing them into pop culture to the extent that one can easily recognise an "'Alien' formula" in many different films, regardless of setting. In this episode Lee explores the soundtracks and scores of films that clearly display this formula. Considering the vast amount of films out there to choose from, there will at least be a part 2. --Main Title from "It! The scientists must choose between two Roger Corman directed Alien ripoffs from the early '80s, Galaxy of Terror and Forbidden World. Which one will be erased from existence?
We celebrate 40 years of the Alien Franchise by discussing not only the series but also the films it influenced. Galaxy of Terror, Forbidden World, Split Second and Life.
Colin celebrates Alien's 40th anniversary by watching the sleazy, low-budget Roger Corman version: Forbidden World (1982, aka Mutant)! An intergalactic "troubleshooter" is summoned to a distant research outpost where all the women get naked and throw themselves at him while a giant creature alternately eats the crew and/or turns them into pulsating puddles of goo. Listen as we marvel at the styrofoam sets - designed by future wunderkind James Cameron, and witness gratuitous space nooky, gory prosthetic effects, and kamakaze space flute playing, all on this week's exciting episode! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

This week on the show, Dan and Greg are Casey-less but they forge ahead with another episode of pop-culture jokin' and reviewin'. Casey will be back soon, don't worry! Greg won the Film Roulette roll, and he checks out the James Gunn penned The Belko Experiment - will it live up to Gunn's name or could the direction from the helmer of the dire Wolf Creek movies bring it down a notch? Dan lost the die-roll, so he sat through King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, a movie by Guy Ritchie and for Guy Ritchie alone. Poor Charlie Hunnam. Finally, they talk about the pop-music skewering of 2GE+HER's album "Again" before rolling for movies next week. Plus, off the top of the show there is plenty of discussion around Prometheus, a bevvy of television trailers both comic book and not, and reviews of Forbidden World aka Mutant, Chris Gethard's Career Suicide HBO special, and so much more! Dan and Vicky tackle their first bona fide B movie with the Roger Corman produced Alien rip-off Forbidden World from 1982. The movie began life under the title Mutant but was quickly re-edited and re-titled by Corman to take out most of director Allan Holzman's nods at humor and give the film a title he thought wouldn't stump viewers. Also tacked on was a pre-credit battle in space scene Corman insisted upon as a shameless Star Wars riff. Dan makes the case that Forbidden World is a fun, atmospheric, capably shot and lit sci-fi horror hybrid that reaches beyond it's low budget constraints. But Vicky ain't having it. Her appraisal is less generous, taking issue with the acting, pacing and bad eighties clothing. This Hot Date may get heated! Also on hand is the usual look at what our hosts have been watching and listening to lately, including 1960's Peeping Tom, the Mario Bava classic Kill Baby Kill, Ben Stiller's Zoolander 2 and the horror movie podcast Shock Waves (nee Killer POV). And Vicky tells us why gay guys like the Charlene song "I've Never Been to Me." Space out with Forbidden World and Hot Date 29!
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2: Sword of Destiny v The Barkley Marathons on the roulette, Theater Ticket Lottery, and we chat Deadpool, a bunch of Luigi Cozzi movies, Justice League: The New Frontier, Eaten Alive, Forbidden World, Hellraiser 8 and 9 and much more!
So yeah, Random Old Records Podcast has been coming out like clockwork every second Wednesday of the month for like a year or so now, but my plans got derailed in the last few days. I had the playlist finalized on Sunday, then came home from work on Monday to find that my computer had taken a dump. LAME! After a couple hours of shopping online and several more hours of staring at progress bars, I had a brand new machine loaded with jams and cracked software and whatnot, so here's Random Old Records Podcast #34, approximately a day late and eight hundred dollars short. It's got roughly an hour of my favorite songs from the past month, and I'm hoping at least some of you faithful readers and listeners will enjoy them, too.Last month, I spoke a bit about being bored with new music, and judging by the stuff coming out lately, it seems like bands across the land are feeling the same way. My ears have gotten burned out by listening to nothing but lo-fi garage rock for awhile, and after hearing like fifty bands dealing in sounds of the sixties and seventies, the only logical place to go is the eighties. I just can't get down with all those sweater-vested weiners aping Talking Heads, but bands ripping off Depeche Mode, The Smiths, and The Cure get an immediate pass in my book. So this episode features a ton of classic tracks from the eighties by The Sound, The Comsat Angels, and Morrissey's band, along with songs by The Fresh And Onlys, Voxtrot, and Pernice Brothers that remind me of that post-punk time when bands slowed down and got all jangly and noisy and weird.Speaking of new music and old music, Captured Tracks has become my favorite label of the last few months. On this episode, you'll hear tunes from Soft Metals, Widowspeak, and Hoop Dreams, which bring back the sounds of the late eighties so perfectly that listening to their records might put you into a time warp. If you like dark dance, gothic country, or nervy college kid pop, then you're gonna love this stuff as much as I do. That Mike Sniper guy has a singular vision for his label that rivals Tony Wilson in his prime. Believe it!If you're a bit confused and are thinking "Well damn, I started listening to Random Old Records because it has a bunch of crazy garage rock n' roll jams every month" then I've got you covered, too. Random Old Records #34 finishes up with the best feral garage pop I've heard in the past month from the new Black Lips LP, The Happy Thoughts, Apache Dropout, and more! This one goes all over the place and back again, and I hope you have as much fun listening to it as I had putting it together!Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to Random Old Records via Apple Podcasts, Google Play, or RSS.
