Deeply entrenched in the underground deep house music scene for more than 25 years since the early 90's, Jenifa Mayanja staked her claim in New York and paid her dues the old fashioned way. Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Mayanja's profile has maintained a coveted underground buzz earning her a revered place in the house community and a reputation for being an innovative, fearless and respected musical ambassador for house music culture and for women in the music business. While other DJs place value on mass exposure, Jenifa Mayanja's DJ ethos is about introduction & preservation of house music culture, while injecting love and the craft of djing back into the game. She has played at premier venues like Panorama Bar, Fabric London, Lux Lisbon, Rex Club while mixing it up with gigs at beloved events like “Freerotation”, Djoon, “Kala Festival” and at Picnik Montreal appearing in a Boiler room event. Currently Jenifa holds a monthly residency at Public Records in New York called “Back to the Deep” playing alongside several luminaries such as Wajeed, JT Donaldson, Kyle Hall, Scott Grooves and Lady Monix. As a label owner, Jenifa is the creator of Bumako Recordings label, started in 2007 which introduced the world to Jenifa's signature naturalistic deep house sound. Jenifa Mayanja was also part founder of the now defunct Sound Warrior Records, the label dedicated exclusively to releasing music by other women producers. The uniqueness of her production aesthetic has seen Jenifa as a sought after remixer and guest producer for artists such as, Seb Wildblood, CC Disco, Conclave, Lauren Ritter, Coloring Lessons and Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange for SecretSundaze in addition to her own releases which include three albums. In the last couple of years, Jenifa has decided to bring her experience and knowledge to others through first educational initiatives, then formally introducing a mentoring and coaching program called “The Music Life Mentor” that works with music creatives at all levels to overcome mental and practical roadblocks to success. https://www.instagram.com/jenifamayanja MARI ELLA --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dancetothemusic/support
TECH CLUBBERS PODCAST W/ MYLES SERGE The enigmatic Myles Sergé is a low flying techno producer, hard working label head and old school DJ, however he prefers the term 'reclusive perfectionist'. Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Myles experienced a temporary sojourn to the beachside of the the UK's Brighton before relocating to Berlin. In some respects the American's music bypasses the melodic classicalism of Detroit for a stripped-back European take on techno, though the mettlesome machine- funk of his raw style, and rough and ready prowess behind the decks, is never too far from the outer-regions of the US' motorcity he calls home. As a regular guest at Tresor, with no stranger to bookings at Berlin's Berghain, Griessmuehle and ://about blank, to his residency at Steevio's Freerotation festival in Wales, Myles is a shining example of how one can traverse the European-American transatlantic divide. With a belt of labels under his control - (MS), Re-Form, Dosed and Space - Myles has since moved on to count the likes of NYC's Thema, The Zenker Brother's Ilian Tape and Dan Curtin's Metamorphic imprints as home for his music. Never one to boast, Myles Sergé Clark's revised approach to the warehouse techno of his recent mixes and DJ sets keeps the quality underground. Long-time Freerotation regular Luke Farey from Westcliff-on-Sea in Essex, England delivers almost 2 hours up in the mix for his debut on Avenue Red! Luke has been a DJ, collector and enthusiast of many, many styles since 1989. As per usual, here we have an unplanned and strictly vinyl-only mix capturing his mood at the time of recording. Never keen on the safe or easy mix, here we have a smorgasbord of feelings, meandering all over the place but somehow cohesively retaining Luke's trademark deep and psychedelic vibe. The Avenue isn't just red today, it's bursting with colour! Photo taken by Luke himself on a seaside avenue close to his home. https://soundcloud.com/luke_farey
Irish-born, Manchester-based Kerrie is a multi-disciplinary artist, incorporating live sets, DJing, producing and running her label Dark Machine Funk across her repertoire of work. Having garnered a rich musical education through working at and holding a DJ residency for one of the UK's most respected record shops Eastern Bloc, Kerrie's in-depth knowledge and unwavering dedication to music shines through her notable back catalogue and bolshy, unforgiving DJ and Live sets. Honing her craft for over a decade, Kerrie has played worldwide in celebrated venues such as Tresor, Berghain, fabric, FOLD, Elsewhere NYC and festivals including Freedom Medellin, Freerotation, Drift and Basilar. First learning to mix via her brother's turntables in the early 2000s, it wasn't until 2009 that Kerrie invested in her own set-up and built an extensive record collection, covering everything from ambient, electronic, house, EBM, acid, electro, and her go-to genre, techno. Kerrie delivers tough moods from the turntables, as conveyed in her mixes for Reclaim Your City, Bassiani, SLAM and Crack, where she carefully blended high-energy styles of UK, Detroit, and European techno, many of which stem from the 90s and the 00s. It's frequent to hear Kerrie weave broken elements into her mixes too, chopping up the 4/4 groove at just the right moment to keep things propulsive. Kerrie's Live sets are fast becoming renowned for their trippy motifs and high impact on the dancefloor, applauded by Berlin's long-running club Tresor, where she made several appearances with her Elektron machines. Kerrie's Live set at Freerotation in 2019 was one of the festival's most talked-about debuts, and this year, Kerrie will return to and debut at multiple festivals and clubs across Europe and the Americas. Following well-received releases on labels such as Don't Be Afraid, Cultivated Electronics, I Love Acid and Symbolism, Kerrie launched her imprint Dark Machine Funk [DMF] in 2020. The label homes her distinctly raw aesthetic and honours her love for dark, gritty, metallic and industrial sounds melded with elements of funk, heavily influenced by second-wave Detroit artists, UK techno and music by some of her favourite artists; James Ruskin, Blawan and Surgeon. Kerrie's first release on DMF, "Inner Space PT1", was praised by Resident Advisor, who credited her ability to make "lean, fierce techno that knows how to groove." 2022 was a watershed year for Kerrie's productions. She debuted on the monumental UK techno label Blueprint with her EP "Raw Regimen", which landed acclaimed reviews. Truly welcomed to the Blueprint family, Kerrie will share her second EP on the label in May 2023 and join the crew at Blueprint showcases around the globe. This year marks the release of Kerrie's 10th EP on vinyl, and considering her consistent output on DMF, Blueprint and many more labels, the producer shows no sign of slowing down. Coming to international prominence in more recent years, regardless of her decade-long tenure in Manchester's vibrant scene, Kerrie is deeply invested in the culture of electronic music, starting from her teenage era as a raver in Ireland up to her innovative projects today. In 2017, she founded Eastern Bloc's in-house event space to nurture local talent, which remains at the heart of Manchester's music community. Kerrie is forging a long-lasting path fuelled by drive, passion, authenticity and a community-first way of thinking. For some dance music fans, Hamish & Toby may be their new favourite DJs thanks to a recent US tour and excellent sets at festivals like Glastonbury, Dimensions, Houghton and Freerotation. 2022 was, after all, a breakthrough year for the UK duo. But in their own, close-knit world of Discogs fanatics and vinyl purists, Hamish Cole and Toby Wareham are admired and established names. They met while studying in Leeds, bonding over a shared love of wiggly bombs at countless clubs and hazy afterparties. They ran events (Butter Side Up, Dog Eat Dog), DJ'd tirelessly and continued to dig for obscure gems. Within a few years, they were both working full-time music jobs in London, booking Dimensions Festival (Hamish) and The Pickle Factory (Toby). (Hamish is now a director at Dimensions.) All in all, they've dedicated the past 15 years of their lives to dance music. For all their behind-the-scenes work, Hamish & Toby's true love is DJing together. They're known for their long, expressive sets that go, in their own words, “all over the map.” Their RA Podcast, which was recorded live at Philadelphia party Subsurface in May, is a four-hour odyssey through golden-era house, tech house and UK garage. Proper party music, in other words. According to the duo, they were “fully locked in, as comfortable as we've ever felt DJing.” It really shows. @hamishcole @tobynicholas Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/851
This month is a special one, and our first ever tandem interview — joining me for a Freerotation special are the festival's founders @Steevio and @Suzybee. Influenced by the free festival movement around the UK in the 1990s, Steevio and Suzy created Freerotation, an annual gathering of music and arts which now takes place in Baskerville Hall, Wales, and has, since its inception in the mid 2000s, become one of the scene's best loved festivals. Kept relatively small and amongst friends and friends of friends, Freerotation is known for its thoughtful curation of both DJs, live acts, and VJs, and its intimate, familial setting. In this conversation, Steevio, Suzy and I get into the festival's early days and its direction and curation today, plus their own personal histories in art and music, and their distinctive creative philosophies. ++ MUSIC: Steevio - "Candescent" (2022) Steevio - "Y Llifogydd" (2022) Steevio - "Passive Resistance" (2022) Purchase part one of Steevio's Dod yn ôl at fy nghoed here: https://steevio.bandcamp.com/album/dod-yn-l-at-fy-nghoed-part-1

Gwenan's rise through the ranks has always been driven by a love for the music. She hasn't produced any big breakout hit and never dreamt of headlining on a super-sized main stage. Instead, she has quietly honed her craft playing at intimate London parties like Toi Toi and her own Hi Fi, made a successful move to Berlin where she fomented close ties with cultured crews like The Ghost and impressed with her pitch-perfect sets as a resident at London's Pickle Factory as well as the beloved Freerotation in her native Wales. Her sound is rooted in house and techno that is deep and kinetic, but it can stretch way beyond and into a world of leftfield electronics and heady ambient. On this week's mix, Gwenan does what she does best: establishes a groove your body can't resist then slowly tweaks and builds on it for 80 minutes. There are never any big left turns or flashy tracks, just a well-sequenced, neatly mixed and super-tight selection of irresistibly good records. Some go heavy on the bass, some twist and turn on a cosmic synth and some have a machine-made soul that warms you to your core.

From Ireland to Manchester, Kerrie Anderson aka @kerrie_dj made the move to the UK in 2010, where she quickly joined the Eastern Bloc Records crew. Kerrie made her Cultivated Electronics debut in back in July with ‘We Continue Part 1' which has grabbed the attention of media and DJs alike, recently featuring in DJ Mag's Staff Picks amongst other accolades. She now returns in September for Part 2. This Irish born, Manchester based DJ and producer has been rising in the ranks since first joining the Eastern Bloc crew and over time has taken her analogue live shows to the likes of Freerotation and The Warehouse Project. 2021 saw the launch of her label, Dark Machine Funk Recordings (DMF). Like her own label name suggests on 'We Continue Part 2', Kerrie delivers four more raw electro tracks bringing dark, twisted bass driven machine funk to Cultivated Electronics' vinyl-only offshoot, Cultivated Electronics Ltd. @xdb is Kosta Athanassiadis – German by birth and in residence, with Greek parentage. His roots are in the central German town of Göttingen. It was here that he began DJing in the early nineties; where he worked in a record shop; where he ran a radio show for five years; and the base from which he established the Metrolux record label in 2006. For many people, it was at this point that XDB appeared on their radar. His debut ‘Jackintosh EP' and the following ‘Descap EP' made a splash with heads, but whilst the shimmering dub techno moments were perhaps the most obvious hook, subsequent tracks defied easy categorisation – an early indication that the person behind the music took a broad view of electronic music, caring not for stylistic pigeonholes. Further releases mapped out more of a defined aesthetic for the label, with XDB's own work sitting alongside contributions from Atheus and Arne Weinberg. By 2007, Kosta's music had caught the ear of other outlets; including Francois Kevorkian's Deep Space Media (a sublabel of Wave Music) licensed ‘Descap' and ‘Descap live' for re-release. @brendonmoeller was the A&R at that time and a 4 track EP on Wave Music followed in 2009. The same year, @p-scott put out the first XDB release on his own @sistrum-recordings, which saw Kosta tailoring his output to a cleaner, more Detroit-inflected sound. In tandem with his production work, XDB the DJ was coming into his own. An avid collector of vinyl since his childhood (Kosta's collection presently numbers some 10,000 records); he had honed his craft in clubs and on the radio – mixing monthly on his own ‘Case Check' show. 2008 brought an early highlight – spinning at Japan's lauded Labyrinth festival alongside the cream of the international deep techno and house scene. Kosta's DJ sets draw upon his expansive record collection, playing right across the board of electronic music. He has no shortage of technical skill but it's his selection that truly shines – putting the music itself at the forefront, letting songs breathe when need be, and delivering plenty of head-scratching ‘what the hell is this track?' moments. It's on this that Kosta has built his reputation. Tastemakers such as the now-defunct mnml ssgs crew were quick to snap him up for a guest mix in 2009, and several of his online recordings have been picked up for @resident-advisor ‘Mix of the Day' spot. In 2010, XDB played at the UK's highly-regarded Freerotation festival – starting a love affair with the event that's seen him come back every year since. The festival secured Kosta's place within a fraternity of fellow musicians and DJs who also prefer to let their music do the talking – likeminds who recognise the purity in what they do, and are all the more respected because of it. That same year, he remixed Detroit heroes Norm Talley - @ormalley and Aaron Carl - @aaroncarl and in 2011 produced releases for the Dolly, Harbour City Sorrow and Echocord imprints. 2012's highlight was a split 12” with Kassem Mosse and in 2013 he was reunited with Sistrum Recordings for the ‘Frocks' record. 2013 also saw the rebirth of Metrolux after a 3 year hiatus, with ‘Edition 2', an excellent Various Artists release. When it comes to producing, Kosta favours a slow and steady work rate, opting to focus on quality control rather than record shop ubiquity. His DJing keeps him in the public eye, but one gets the sense that XDB prefers to operate in the shadows. There's a refreshing lack of gimmickry to his approach – keeping it low-key allows him to be judged solely on the basis of talent. Arguably, it's an innate quality – the way he wants to play it; the way that brings him most satisfaction, but it's helped establish his reputation as an artist of considerable merit, winning the approval his audience and peers, alike. Stay Rave with #R13!
Miles Atmospheric Full Biography; One of the true unsung heroes of UK techno, Miles Sagnia is as much a mesmerizing presence behind the DJ booth as he is in the studio. Through his richly emotive releases,he weaves seamless stories out of the deepest house or the most spacious techno. He is equally at home going deep on his own Atmospheric Existence label or sending out uniquely soulful techno missives for labels such as Applied Rhythmic Technology, Firescope or Detroit's Aesthetic Audio. Last year he released Miles Away on Chicago's Finale Sessions, his second double long-player and the follow-up to his 2014 debut LP – Aeration. Next year he debuts another new alias ‘Elastic Modulus’ home for his recent excursions into ethereal electro. As a DJ for over 20 years, Miles enjoys a dedicated following no matter whether he is delivering sets of muscular late night techno, or feel-good Sunday-afternoon house. Given the choice, he will straddle the divide to create something unpredictable yet hypnotic, laced with as much energy as there is soul. From London to Paris to Shanghai, he cuts a unique presence in the Dj booth. From residencies at London’s infamous Turnmills & The Concorde 2 - Brighton, his blend of sonics has gained many supporters. Miles has been a fixture at legendary UK festivals such as Glade and lately Freerotation, and revered underground UK parties such as Night Moves, Machine and Kerfuffle. Copyright control. This live set is made up mainly of a bunch of material I've been working on since before Christmas. And then recorded during the lockdown we're all currently experiencing to some degree or another. So the silence and the space we now have in the city was undoubtably an influence on the performance. Dedicated to the memory of the wonderful Mike Huckaby, who passed from this realm into the next whilst I was recording this. For the tech heads - recorded in one take on a DSI Tempest, Roland JX-03 and a laptop running Live, Numerology, a Prophet 5 emulator, a SH101 emulator and a few loops, through a Really Nice Compressor and an A&H ZED10FX desk. So here's a little sonic journey from the depths of the grey Berlin winter to the heat of the dancefloor. It might well have been her set at Freerotation in summer 2018 that really got people talking about Gigsta. It was there that the hardcore heads in the crowd were all abuzz with her fresh mix of heavy bass, house funk, off kilter rhythms and kinked synths. Since then she has become more and more visible at key parties round Europe, not only as resident at Berlin's Room 4 Resistance but also through her painstakingly researched and assembled radio shows for Cashmere, where she takes cues from literature, NASA launches, spoken word pieces and plenty more. As the eagled-eyed will know, Gigsta has already been confirmed for Dekmantel Selectors in August, but to keep us going until then she has served up a special mix for us. You never know what you'll get with the Belgian artist, it could be hard and fast, could be grime, or could be garage. Here she goes for creepy and unsettling ambiance that eventually gets contorted into warped bass music, hyperactive club, hammering techno and euphoric jungle. It shows an unrivalled command of tempo and makes for a real seat-of-your pants ride.
**We've created a place to discuss and stay up to date with Slam Radio=> bit.ly/SlamRadioGroup Blasha & Allatt are co-founders and residents at Meat Free, hailed as one of Manchester's best techno nights. Through sets at their own parties, they regularly impressed the artists they booked, with Ben Sims in particular championing them outside of Manchester by inviting them to play at his Machine parties and consequently its Boiler Room session in 2016. In 2018 their debut track 'Broughton 93' featured on Machine's 'Tribology' compilation and last week their remix of Blue Hour's track ‘Mirimar' came out, which sees them share label space with Hector Oaks, D.Dan & Vladimir Dubyshkin 2019 has already proved to be a big year for the duo with gigs at at Fabric, Tresor, Printworks & Freerotation under their belt. https://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/blashaallatt https://soundcloud.com/blasha-allatt https://en-gb.facebook.com/BlashaAllatt/ Listen to all Slam Radio shows here soundcloud.com/soma/sets/slam-radio facebook.com/Slam.soma instagram.com/slam_djs twitter.com/slamdjs slam-djs.com Subscribe on Spotify: bit.ly/SlamRadioOnSpotify Subscribe on iTunes: itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/slam-radio/id584845850 Slam Radio is produced at www.glowcast.co.uk For syndication or radio queries, email conor@somarecords.com and contact@syndicast.co.uk

Our last episode of 2018 was recorded in Röstånga, Sweden with producer and performer @SebastianMullaert, who invited me to his studio to talk about the art of live performance and his new project, @CircleofLive. After retiring his live duo @Minilogue in 2014, Sebastian continued recording and performing under the name Wa Wu We, before launching his new project Circle of Live. Inspired by Sebastian's love of improvisation, jam sessions, and creative collaboration, Circle of Live debuted officially at this summer's @Freerotation Festival, and I had the pleasure of attending one of their events in Malmö, Sweden, a couple months ago. Our conversation for AIR traces Sebastian's interest in live performance as a kid to his new venture to his presence and performance in 2018. Over the past few years it really has been delightful watching Jane Fitz receive the rightful praise she has deserved for a long time. As a key figure in the British dance and electronic music scene she has worked hard to assert herself as one of the most important selectors and disc jockeys on the circuit and longstanding residencies at the likes of Freerotation and Night Moves have helped cement her place. In the booth she spins an eclectic mix of house, techno, ambient, acid and the abstract. Her sets weave between style, genre and pace in an intriguing fashion as she guides dancers into the small hours. With sets at the likes of Panoramabar, Tresor, Concrete and more all under her belt you can bet your last dollar that this one will bang with precision and eloquence. Jane Fitz will appear at Love International next week, the Croatian festival will take place at The Garden in Tisno from the 27th of June.

The fourth episode of AIR welcomes UK-based DJ and producer @JaneFitz for a chat about getting lost in music. ** Sorry about the background noise in this one! ** Jane has been involved in electronic music for over 20 years, first as a raver and a music journalist in her native England and later in Asia, when she moved to Hong Kong at 23. Eventually she picked up DJing and brought her keen ear for selection and groove back to the UK at her event series like Peg, and Night Moves. Today she is considered one electronic music’s best selectors, holding residencides at the likes of Freerotation and The Pickle Factory. Welcome to the Decisive Podcast Guest Mix Series Leah Floyeurs Please be sure to listen to the whole interview. The Podcast will be out now with the interview and one week later without the interview on Soundcloud. So we give you enough time to learn more about the person behind the music. As we know, the scene has been dominated from male artists as long as we can remember. But there are quite a lot of really great female artists that we would like to present to you in the future. This time Leah Floyeurs will be the fourth female artist on the show. I chatted with Leah Floyeurs over the weekend about what makes her tick. The London based musician which was raised and born in Australia was actually trying to start a career as a journalist In 1993 she moved from Australia to the UK and worked in a recordstore and as a pianist. But somehow in 1993 a party has changed the course of her plan and she never moved back to her hometown Brisbane / Australis. In 1996 / 97 she started playing records in London and after a short period of time , also in several countries far outside the UK. In 2011 she finally quit her full-time job and put her focus on the music. She’s been inspired by artists like Marc Forshaw, John Heckle ,Heiroglyphic Being,Shackleton,Eduardo de la Calle, Fred P, Franklin de Costa and Grimes In the same year she launched her own radioshow called “Leah with sound” at Timeline Music for the past 5 years. Leah is a very open minded artist with a wide range of genre. She is a resident on the well known Freerotation festival at Hay-on-Wyein in the UK. And also a resident at the club 50 arc in London. In cooperation with DJ Alison Marks, she had already released under the name “Wallflower! on the Italian label Rebirth Records and has already been remixed by Larry Heard. Mix 070 comes from one of Crack’s favourite DJs - Jane Fitz. Since starting the seminal Peg night in the late 90’s, Jane’s been a consistently superb force for quality wigged-out dance music, and while she calls London home, the world calls to her. As a result she’s preached the gospel to clubs, rooftops and fields of dancers from New York to Bulgaria, Detroit to Berlin and Chicago to Provence. 2014’s been no different, with visits to the mythical Freerotation festival (her Sunday afternoon set at the 2013 edition was easily one of the highlights from a festival full of them) Tresor, Weather Festival, and Tel Aviv among a number of enviable bookings. INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > www.inverted-audio.com/leif Leif Knowles has experimented with music from an early age. Starting out playing in bands, to exploring downtempo, trip hop as well as recording John Peel sessions to tape he then discovered Techno at free parties in North Wales. His involvement in producing for several record labels, as well as creating his own imprint with best friend Joe Ellis only came naturally. An accomplished producer, with years of experience within the scene at the moment, Leif has a lot to say. Although he always keeps a low profile, his music expresses his brilliant persona perfectly. Here's what Leif discusses with us, ahead of Freerotation this weekend, where less than a 1000 lucky people will be able to enjoy his set, amongst other brilliant artists.
INTERVIEW > www.inverted-audio.com/magic-mountain-high Magic Mountain High is a collaboration between David Moufang aka Move D, Gal Aner and Jordan Czamanski aka Juju & Jordash. As Magic Mountain High they've released one record on Workshop Records entitled 'Workshop xx', which was recorded a year ago at Move D's studio. All three tracks are based on live jams and improvisations in the studio, similar to how Magic Mountain High perform on stage, but made shorter so as to fit on vinyl. Ahead of Magic Mountain High's London performance on Saturday 9th March for Phonica and ReviveHER alongside Vakula and Maurice Fulton we caught up with Gal and Jordan for a short interview, where we discuss Freerotation, their live setup and how they manage to work together despite geographical differences. This Inverted Audio mix is a recording of the trio playing live at Panoramabar in September 2012, with guest vocals by Eric D Clark and when we say live, we mean 100% live, no cheats, no edits just the plain truth.
