Alvaro Ramirez Founder and CEO of eHarvestHub joins Future Tech Podcast to share how his company is using blockchain technologies and cryptocurrency to change the way fresh food is distributed. Small farmers grow between 60 and 70% of the food that we eat, and independent owner/operator truckers move 90% of that production, yet, they make the least profits. food is expensive and inaccessible because it zig-zags 7 to 10 times before it makes it to the grocery store increasing in price each time it exchanges hands. These layers of middlemen leave little profits for the farmers and truckers who produce and transport our food and consumers paying higher prices for their food. eHarvestHub provides small fresh produce growers with a single affordable and easy-to-use cloud solution to manage their produce life cycle, from seeding to shipping.

What does computer programming, blockchain, internet voting, ICOs and music have in common? They all contribute to the continuum of experience and knowledge that Joe Mohen, CEO of Chimes Media possesses and shares with Future Tech Podcast. Despite an impressive career involving technology, elections, church fundraising, fashion and music, Mohen is driven by two fundamental questions: how is the world different today and how can I use my technical and engineering skills to change the world? Most recently, Mohen has launched Chimes Media, an innovated bifurcated ICO that seeks to repurpose music data and create a comprehensive music ecosystem that will provide access to music production credits in a cool interesting way. According to Mohen, an estimated eight percent of internet searches is related to music. Chimes Media is building a database to consolidate search results related to music to provide consumers access to an organized, structured index.
Richard Jacobs founded the Future Tech Podcast during the contentious 2016 Election cycle–making a conscious choice to follow news and ideas that made him happy, rather than the things that didn't. The intended listeners of his podcast are those individuals who are interested in the latest and greatest, in what's just around the corner. With all the information from his hundreds of podcast interviews, he decided to write a book, "Bitcoin, Ethereum, Blockchain: Surprising Insights from 200+ Podcast Interviews with Industry Insiders" which is currently available on Amazon and soon to be on Audible. He is also hosting the upcoming Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Blockchain Superconference in Dallas, Texas February 16th-18th. The conference will have 50 guest speakers and will be for both beginners and experienced users alike. Tickets are already on sale, so don't miss out. In this interview, Richard also briefly touches on his new company, Blockchain Edge, a blockchain consulting firm whose goal is to help companies survive the upcoming blockchain bust (similar to the dotcom bust in the early 2000s).
Richard Jacobs didn't start out as a Bitcoin industry insider–instead, he realized that during the stress and unhappiness of the 2016 election season, reading and learning about cryptocurrency and blockchain fascinated him, and ultimately made him happy. In order to learn more about the industry, he began Future Tech Podcast. Since his first interview with Mate Tokay of Bitcoin.com, he has interviewed more than 200 industry insiders, from all corners of cryptospace–miners, hodlers, whales, crypto enthusiasts, founders of blockchain companies, venture capitalists, and much more. This gave Ricahrd a unique, bird's eye view of the crypto industry. Intended both for curious newcomers and experienced veterans, Richard's book "Bitcoin, Ethereum, Alt Coins, and Blockchain: Surprising Insights from 200+ Interviews with Industry Insiders" provides an overview of many advances in cryptospace, as well as reference pages for each company mentioned. Ultimately, his book is a way to both educate those who are interested in learning more, as well as to thank those who have helped him get where he is today. Don't forget to check out the Bitcoin, Ethereum & Blockchain Superconference, Dallas, Texas, Feb 16-18. Go to www.bitcoinsuperconference.com to register or get on the free notification list.
Richard Jacobs, founder of Future Tech Podcast, talks about the lessons he's learned from creating 300 podcasts over the last 10 months, and how they can impact your business growth. If you've ever thought about starting your own podcast, either to help develop your business or for personal interest, here are some helpful tips and tricks. The most important thing is to play to your strengths–create podcasts about topics that interest you, and create a team to help you. If there is an aspect of podcasting that you are not great at, ask someone or create a team to help you. Recognize that both quality and quantity are important, each in different ways. Don't get hung up on technical perfection, but get as many podcasts done as you can. As you grow your platform, more people will agree to speak with you. Don't hesitate to ask for referrals. Finally, remember to show interest to your guests! They'll be easier to get to know and chat with, and can help you grow your podcast better than you can alone.
"We're either going to go into space or we're going to go extinct here on Earth," says explorer and planetary geologist J.R. Skok. That's why Skok has committed his life to the study of Mars. He feels it's humanity's first step in living off-Earth. To Skok, Mars is perfect—even better than the moon—because it's far enough away to be a mystery we should solve, yet close enough for us to travel there in a matter of months. He discusses evidence that, despite Mar's current status as a "dead" frozen world, ancient Mars was "dynamic". Skok explains why simply studying the history of Earth is not enough to understand how humanity can exist extra-terrestrially. He also reveals how you can help make this possible. He also talks about his current work with NASA's next-generation Rover and his "Made of Mars" initiative. The latter is Skok's ambitious brainchild that he believes will help solve some of the important issues currently involved with future Martian exploration and settlement. You'll also hear about the following: * Why our understanding of Iceland and hot springs worldwide is crucial to the understanding of ancient Mars * How his studies and experiences have impacted his perception of spirituality and his religious beliefs * How the red carpet walk and attire of a given celebrity could contribute to the future exploration and understanding of Mars Make sure to subscribe, review and stay tuned to Future Tech Podcast for more on Future Tech news. Bluzelle CEO Pavel Bains likes to make the complicated seem uncomplicated, as when he describes blockchain as simply an "authentication and verification of data between parties that inherently might not trust each other." But he might be on to something. These days, threats like money laundering and terrorism have banks and regulatory agencies nervous. Identity Management and KYC have become costly in both time and resources when banks and insurance companies onboard new customers. As regulations increase, so do non-compliance penalties and other complications. But Bains believes the solution is as simple as leveraging blockchain technology (even as financial institutions have been slow to adopt it despite widespread interest). After listening to Pavel Bains give his perspective, you hope he's right in his prediction of how soon this could be implemented. Bains also discusses: * When a blockchain is not really a blockchain * How a 9/11 Thought Experiment can explain why more and more companies have become willing to undergo the process of costly compliance, particularly with access to the "Golden Truth" * Two reasons why he discounts a Big Brother-type of threat * What clients really want from Bluzelle * At the very end, his prediction on how blockchain will impact your kids and grandkids' insurance policies Make sure to subscribe, review and stay tuned to Future Tech Podcast for more on Future Tech news. When your house loses power, it's irritating, even problematic. But what if the power outage is scaled up—across the region, state, or even nation? That's what keeps Colin Gounden awake at night. Gounden is CEO of Via Science, a company that develops software solutions that help identify risks to a given area's critical infrastructure. AI can help this by processing given data to help decisions get made. Yet, there are critical limitations to AI's abilities that still need solving before this shows efficacy. Gounden also explains "explainable AI" and how it could help fix "algorithm aversion", brought on perhaps in part by the AI's inability to understand causal concepts that any 3-year-old can. Finally, find out why he astoundingly likens the current state of AI to the state of the Internet in the mid-1990s. Here's what else you'll hear: * A major drawback of AI and why one associated aspect of it may never be solved in our lifetime * HowWar Games, The Terminator, and The Matrix all perpetuate a certain "machine intelligence" myth that Via Science hopes to erase by combining and implementing two specific elements * Why and how AI has come so far in the last 5-10 years after little progress in the previous 50, including a breakthrough based on the mathematical concepts of uncertainty Make sure to subscribe, review and stay tuned to Future Tech Podcast for more on Future Tech news. Senescent cells play a uniquely dual role in the body: in the younger stages of life, they are crucial in helping heal wounds, yet later in life, they contribute to certain aspects of aging. The powerful influence senescence cells have on the body is what drives Peter de Keizer, an anti-aging researcher at Erasmus University Medical Center in the Netherlands. In this Future Tech "Almost Here" podcast, Anti-Aging, de Keizer takes us deep into his research. His goal is to find a way to purge these senescent cells before they cause irreparable damage. When a cell reaches its damage threshold, it either dies (apoptosis) or hibernates (senescence). de Keizer discusses what happens when the cells that refuse to die begin to accumulate and how he and his team have found two different ways to disrupt cell senescence. While this seems like great news, de Keizer explains that if done in the wrong way or at the wrong time, the cells can turn toxic and cause unintended damage. He also describes the results from experiments on aging mice and what it might mean for humans. Since the effects on both long-term health and on healthy people in their 50s and 60s still need to be determined, de Keizer also cautions against people who are understandably eager to acquire this at any cost and describes what's happening to people who are going about it the wrong way. You'll also learn: * Why cell death is more common when you're younger and cell senescence more common when you're older as well as what determines cell death or senescence * The science behind why this is not the Elixir of Life to make you immortal but instead is a method to improve your health span (i.e., quality of life) in your later years; even so, though our lifespans are increasing, there might actually be an age cap that humans cannot surpass * What's in store for the rest of 2017 and into 2018: despite all the challenges, are we really this close to a breakthrough? So make sure to listen to it and subscribe to the podcast. Keep donating Bitcoins to Future Tech Podcast so we keep bringing you the stuff you love and want to know more about.
Stephan Tual, founder of Slock.it, talks about Ethereum-Based Smart Contracts that allow IoT devices, (such as door locks on Air BnB apartments) to be fully automated – unlocked and locked based on rules, such as when a rental payment is received for an apartment (unlocked) and 5 minutes after checkout time (locked). Other use cases are: electric charging stations that can be rented on demand, charging monitored remotely, and repaired if a signal showing malfunction is received. Terracycle is back, and this time we have its CEO, Tom Szaky. Terracycle has rapidly become an innovative recycling company and global leader in recycling hard-to-recycle waste. From recycling #7 plastic to traditionally "un-recyclable" materials (juice pouches), Terracycle has been able to reduce landfill waste as well as provide reliable and useable source materials for manufacturers. Tom's aim is to eliminate the concept of waste altogether. His vision has been a driving force in recycling 1 Million Pounds of waste per week, making Terracycle a leader in the "Circular Economy". They have introduced world's first recycling database that helps people identify where they can go to recycle almost any household product. Terracycle now serves 21 countries around the world with a vision to reduce landfill use globally. The biggest challenge in the waste / recycling process is to cover the direct and indirect costs while generating profit. In order to tackle this, they try and ensure recycled materials meet manufacturer's requirements and are recycled on demand. Make sure you listen to this amazing interview. Chris Berka of Advanced Brain Monitoring talks to us about how they have challenged the orthodox thinking by creating advanced medical devices that provide a superior patient experience, lower healthcare costs, and improved quality of care. Talking about some of their successful experiments she explained how they were able to predict from the teams' brains states which team had more cardiac synchrony & brain coherence and which team will be able to solve a given problem successfully by measuring non-invasively from body and brain. They can track when the team moves from novice to expert and which member of the team will emerge as a leader. She also explains how a Pre-Shot Peak Performance (PSPP) profile was identified in experts in marksmanship, archery and golf to provide the basis for real-time feedback to trainees. Preliminary data indicated that marksmanship learning trajectories improve significantly when novices train with the APPT as compared to controls. VistaGen Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company concentrating on developing new generation medicines for depression and other central nervous system (CNS) disorders. The lead CNS product candidate, AV-101, is a new generation antidepressant drug candidate in Phase 2 development. AV-101's mechanism of action is fundamentally differentiated from all FDA-approved antidepressants and atypical antipsychotics used adjunctively to treat major depressive disorder (MDD), with potential to drive a paradigm shift towards a new generation of safer and faster-acting antidepressants. In addition to the AV-101 programs, VistaStem, VistaGen's wholly owned subsidiary, is focused on applying human pluripotent stem cell technology, internally and with collaborators, to discover, rescue, develop and commercialize proprietary new chemical entities (NCEs), including small molecule NCEs with regenerative potential, for CNS and other diseases, and cellular therapies involving stem cell-derived blood, cartilage, heart and liver cells. VistaGen is utilizing its CardioSafe 3D to participate in the FDA's Comprehensive in-vitro Proarrhythmia Assay (CiPA) initiative designed to change the landscape of nonclinical drug development by providing a more complete and accurate assessment of potential drug effects on cardiac risk using stem cell-derived heart cells and in vitro ion channel data. In this podcast, Dr. Snodgrass discusses VistaStem's stem cell technology applications as well and their CardioSafe 3D™ program. Smart Glasses are made of glycerin-filled, liquid lenses that can automatically adjust the focus on what a person is seeing, whether it is far away or close up. The lenses are placed in battery-powered frames that can automatically adjust the focal length of the lenses based on what the wearer is looking at. These glasses are particularly suited for people with presbyopia, a condition in which the lens of your eye loses part of its ability to focus on objects at variable distances, typically requiring progressive lenses or bifocals and separate reading glasses. Doctor Carlos Mastrangelo, the creator of these Smart Glasses explains that altering how the liquid lenses are curved allows the smart glasses to focus on whatever the wearer is looking at. It takes about 14 milliseconds for the glasses to alter focus, and the rechargeable battery in the frames lasts more than 24 hours. Now in order to commercialize the product, Carlos has developed a company, Sharpeye LLC, to produce the product for the general public. Listen, subscribe, and review Future Tech Podcast.
