Send us a Text Message. In the UK, more older homeowners are choosing to downsize due to rising living costs, including higher utility bills and maintenance expenses, and the desire for a simpler lifestyle. Recent data shows a 13% increase in home sales among those aged 66 and over, contrasting with stagnant or declining sales among younger homeowners. For example, Peter and Jennifer Hughes left their Regency townhouse due to health issues and the impracticality of a multi-storey home, while Modupe Olufunmilayo downsized to enjoy a mortgage-free retirement, even though it meant moving away from her community. For others, downsizing offers a fresh start, such as Kate and Stan Urbaniak, who are relocating from Aberdeen to Brighton, and Hilkka Fraser, who moved to Mersea Island after her husband's death.Meanwhile, Zamira Hajiyeva, wife of jailed Azeri banker Jahangir Hajiyev, has forfeited a luxury mansion near Harrods and a golf club in Ascot to the British government. Valued at about £18.5 million, these properties were seized following an Unexplained Wealth Order (UWO) related to her husband's financial misconduct. The National Crime Agency (NCA) traced the illicit funds through offshore accounts, confirming that the assets were acquired with money from fraud and embezzlement. The UK government will receive 70% of the proceeds from the sale, minus NCA costs, as part of ongoing efforts to combat illicit financial inflows. In response to soaring housing costs, young people in the UK are increasingly pooling resources with friends and siblings to buy property. Jack Robinson and Gemma Griffin, after years of expensive renting in London, chose a shared mortgage to purchase a flat in Woolwich. Similarly, Joe Almeida and his extended family bought a three-bedroom house in Feltham, and brothers Dylan and Marcus Hall purchased a home in Dunfermline. Lloyds Bank research shows that over half of young people are open to joint property ownership, despite concerns about complicating personal relationships. Finally, the ultra-wealthy are enhancing their homes with luxurious security features. Al Corbi, founder of SAFE (Strategically Armored & Fortified Environments), notes growing demand for opulent secure spaces, which now include extravagant features like underground escape tunnels, bowling alleys, and shark tanks. With rising concerns about climate change, pandemics, and political instability, these secure areas are being equipped with advanced protections such as blast-proof doors, unbreakable windows, and biometric systems. Graham Harris from SHH Architecture highlights that secure spaces are expanding in both size and functionality, reflecting a growing desire among the wealthy for comfort and preparedness against various threats. The body of Stephen Smith has been exhumed, autopsied and reinterred. A SLED security team accompanied the body to a location in Florida where the examination took place. Information on the new autopsy has not be released yet. Meanwhile, news of two possible persons of interest has come to light. Investigation into those leads are continuing. Stephen Smith's body was discovered on a rural road in Hampton county back in 2015. Just 2-weeks ago the South Carolina law enforcement division announced they are now investigating Smith's death as a homicide. Smith's death was initially investigated as a hit-and-run but investigators say the evidence did not support that as a cause of death. Joel Skousen is a political scientist, by training, specializing in the philosophy of law and Constitutional theory, and is also a designer of high security residences and retreats. He has designed Self-sufficient and High Security homes throughout North America, and has consulted in Central America as well. His latest book in this field is Strategic Relocation--North American Guide to Safe Places, and is active in consulting with persons who need to relocate for security and increased self-sufficiency. He also assists people who need to live near a large city to develop contingency retreat plans involving rural farm or recreation property. 1980s Skousen was the chairman of the Conservative National Committee. He was also the executive editor of Conservative Digest. Skousen is the founder and chief editor of World Affairs Brief, a weekly news-analysis service. Some of Skousen's views are controversial. He made the case that the Fall of Communism was, also as claimed by KGB defector Anatoliy Golitsyn, a "carefully crafted deception," meant to gain Western aid and technology transfers that would eventually end in a resurgence of the Russian threat. In his weekly briefings Skousen has also written extensively about the evidence of conspiracy by government to cover up its own involvement in numerous black operations such as the JFK assassination, the Oklahoma City bombing, TWA 800 and the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center. He is particularly a harsh critic of what he calls the "phony war on terror" used to conjure up justification for continual foreign intervention and the diminution of American constitutional rights; he is also very critical of globalism, communism, and the U.S. interventionist foreign policy. Skousen has written several books. including Essential Principles for the Conservation of Liberty, Strategic Relocation—North American Guide to Safe Places, The Secure Home, Survival Home Manual: Architectural Design, Construction, and Remodeling Of Self-Sufficient Residences and Retreats, and How to Implement a High Security Shelter in the Home. He also published a booklet titled 10 Packs for Survival, which he has also posted to several web sites.

The blockchain industry is filled with a variety of different projects, all competing for the same market share. The communities attached to these projects always think that their project is the best, and they always have a list of reasons for why their favorite will end up on top. This isn't exactly how it works though, it's not a zero sum game where the winner takes all, and it's hard to say which project is the best when they are all taking different approaches and optimizing for different things. It's like asking whether a dolphin is better than a cheetah, the answer depends on whether the competition is on land or in water. Still, it's important to know which trade offs are being made with the projects you're invested in. In this video we're going to compare some of the top smart contract platforms in the crypto space, and identify some of their main strengths and weaknesses.

The link between substance abuse, impulsivity, and violence in psychotic patients remains unclear. In this author podcast, Gabriella Gobbi, MD, PhD, and Stefano Comai, PhD, discuss their study, which was designed to assess whether cannabis use disorder is associated with violent and/or psychotic behavior in patients who are hospitalized in a high-security hospital. The findings show that cannabis and alcohol are often abused (by themselves or together) by psychotic patients with a propensity for violence, but only alcohol is associated with impulsive and violent behavior. The article is published in the November-December 2021 issue of the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology.

Professor Aaron Thomas Kinzel had grew up in struggle. Members of his family were involved in criminal activity. They sold drugs. They were trapped in the criminal justice system. He grew up with anger problems, confrontational with authority. When Aaron was 18, police officers stopped him for a traffic violation. He resisted. A shootout followed. Later, authorities charged him with crimes that resulted in a 19-year prison term. Aaron served his sentence in the Maine State Prison System's high-security penitentiary. During the first several years, Aaron adjusted in the ways of the penitentiary. He lashed out with violence and resisted mentoring. Later, while in his sixth year, Aaron found mentors in some of the long-term prisoners. They encouraged him to participate in academic programs. Aaron attended his first college course as he passed through his 9th year of imprisonment. That college course changed his life. When he concluded his prison term, after a decade inside, Aaron continued with education. He earned an associate's degree. Then he earned a bachelor's degree. Then a master's degree. Now he is nearing completion of his doctorate degree. He is employed as a professor at the University of Michigan. In today's podcast on Prison Professors, we learn about Aaron's journey and about the collateral consequences that follow for formerly incarcerated people. The sooner people begin preparing for success, the sooner those people can overcome the challenges that follow a criminal conviction.
