Leslie is joined by two different guests that are members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. During the first half of the show, Leslie is joined by Peter Vargas, a 30-year insurance sales agent with AAA in Northern California. They discuss how In June, about 460 AAA insurance sales agents in Northern California organized with Teamsters Local 665 in San Francisco – a unique group of licensed 'white-collar' workers to have formed a union. They've been in contract negotiations since August and the company is stalling, failing to seriously bargain, and making changes to the status quo which is not allowed during the bargaining period. The company has rejected nearly every union proposal, has failed to consider the workers' positions, and has failed to make any counter offers. Rather than get serious about negotiating, the company has actually proposed a rule that would, in effect, allow the company to terminate any employee who curses in front of a “member.” “Member” refers to a current or former member of any AAA club or any current, former or potential customer --- so basically anyone. There's also a punishment for being 1-minute late. The company has also imposed a two-tier compensation scale that guarantees that newly hired employees will never have the same opportunities as more tenured employees. Calls from customers for sales agents are getting routed out to lower paid workers. Managers have control over which sales agents can receive calls at their desk and can shut the line down – and these calls are the agents' livelihoods. The local union has filed seven unfair labor practice charges against the company. AAA has refused to bargain over ‘just cause' and fair compensation. The list goes on. The sales agents are motivated commission-earning workers who've built up this business and are determined to get a contract and to be treated fairly and with respect. The website for the Teamsters Local 665 is www.teamsters665.org. During the second half of the show, Leslie is joined by Andre Solelyn, a Terminal Operator at United Metro Energy and Teamsters Strike Captain. The two discuss how essential workers at the United Metro Energy oil terminal in Brooklyn, such as Andre, have been on strike since April 19, 2021. The workers provided gasoline, diesel, and heating oil to New York throughout the pandemic, while the company's billionaire owner, John Catsimatidis, paid them wages as much as 50% lower than at other city oil companies. The company has sent letters to eight workers over the course of the strike telling them that they have been “permanently replaced.” The firings have illegally targeted union activists. The National Labor Relations Board is currently investigating charges related to the firings. UMEC terminal workers, fleet mechanics, and service technicians voted to join Teamsters Local 553 in February 2019, but Catsimatidis dragged out negotiations for a first contract for two years, precipitating the strike. While other unionized fuel terminals in New York City pay good wages and provide quality benefits, UMEC has for years undercut those wages and only offered an expensive health plan that is not accepted by many doctors. In November, the New York City Comptroller opened an investigation into complaints that United Metro Energy has not paid workers the prevailing wage when delivering heating oil to City buildings. The oil terminal distributes heating oil to New York City schools and hospitals, as well as fuel to area gas stations. Teamsters Joint Council 16 and its 27 affiliated local unions represent 120,000 workers in the Greater New York area and Puerto Rico. Please consider helping these Teamsters who have been on strike for 10 months. They need financial help in order to keep their families fed and housed while they continue to fight for their jobs. Mike Olsen died on the operating room table when he bled out during his double lung transplant.  He found himself in heaven where he met Jesus and his organ donor, where he was able to let the donor know his deep gratitude, and get a message from Jesus about the new lungs.  Yes, Mike's testimony is remarkable, but what I love most about his message are his insights from heaven.  He experienced overwhelming peace in heaven, and he sees life differently in the light of eternity.     "I realized I couldn't remember my past. I couldn't remember any sin.  it was like it had been erased from a black board.  I felt so encouraged and blessed.  I just felt, WOW... it was all Jesus!  Everything we accomplish in life...it is all Him.  All of the striving, all of the worrying!  I had an epiphany in heaven.  Oh my goodness, I wasted SO much time worrying about finances, family, my spouse, how I appear to others, if I was doing enough, if I was pleasing God.  It was like a weight had been lifted, and I realized that in Heaven none of that matters! Even the suffering, although I didn't like it, even though it was hard waiting for the transplant, even that doesn't matter in the light of eternity.  The things that we go through might seem like they are long and gruesome, and horrible down here,   But in the light of eternity, it's all woven into who we will be." - Mike Olsen   Mike and his wife Patti live in Louisville, KY.  He is a retired Pastor of Iona Community Church.  In 2014 he was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a disease of progressive scarring of the lungs with no cure.  The doctors told him he had 2 years to live and advised him to go home and make arrangements. Transplant would be his only option, but not a guarantee. Mike decided he wanted to make every breath count. He was passionate about bringing awareness to IPF and in helping others. He received his new lungs on January 7, 2019.   In this episode Mike shares: -God's word to him at the time of the devastating diagnosis that gave him supernatural peace. -The power of the prayers he was receiving. -Ruben's 3am call and the impact of listening to someone in need. -God's orchestration of meetings with politicians, celebrities, and the President to promote awareness and make an impact. -God's beautiful message in a vision during his wait for transplant. -The experience of being bathed in the light of heaven, seeing swirls of colorful lights (rainbow) and angels singing, meeting Jesus and the donor. -Seeing an angel at his bedside during recovery. -His book in progress about his experience and many other pieces of his journey, titled, "Bathed in Heaven's Light." -Joshua Mills' testimony where he was taken in the Spirit to China and evidence that followed. -Experience in his church with God's glory manifesting as gold on a child.   "Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him." - Psalm 115:3 NIV   "Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven. He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars. and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion." - Revelation 10:1 NIV   News story about Mike: https://www.wdrb.com/archive/video/wdrb-special-assignment-im-dying-will-you-help-louisville-pastor-brings-awareness-to-little-known/video_6b90b5b8-5f82-5392-859c-8f5c498d2251.html   How to sign up to be a hero (organ donor): https://www.organdonor.gov/sign-up   If you feel led to donate to Mike's GoFundMe Account: https://www.gofundme.com/f/mike-olsen-project?qid=5ac7bd2c388ff2ff608aa784c8b1e238

Today Pastor Zoni is back to update everyone regarding the Go Fund Me donations made by all of you, and how much it blessed so many hurting lives. It was in his heart to personally share about how thankful he is, along with those that serve with him. He shares with us the insights on how they evangelize. He takes us all on a short but insightful journey into the nation of Pakistan, and gives beautiful testimonies of the many places he visits, the beauty of the people, and their reception of the gospel. And sometimes not so receptive. Pastor Zoni is a tireless worker in the last days harvest. He is truly unlike any laborer I have ever seen. Others that work along side of him have that same caliber of heart-service to the Lord. I have to say that in my short time I have worked with him and the others, there are rich, fertile fields of harvest. When Jesus said that the harvest is truly great but the laborers are few, I now know what He means. There are thousands getting saved through the very few sold out, and dedicated men and women laborers of Christ. However, there are not enough disciple-making people to train the new believers. If you are moved in your heart in joining these rich, ripe fields of harvest in Pakistan, the door is wide open. There is much need for teachers for widows, and their little children. For the brickkiln people who are in slavery, for the young and old. Please pray about joining Pastor Zoni. You can reach out to me first and I can connect you to him. You will not believe how ripe and ready all of the people are who are ready to receive and learn about Jesus. They are the hungriest, thirstiest people I have ever encountered. It is the most awesome thing I have ever had the privilege of being a fellow-laborer in. I hope to see you there. "Jesus has redeemed not only our souls, but our bodies. When the Lord shall deliver His captive people out of the land of the enemy He will not leave a bone of one of them in the adversary's power. The dominion of death shall be utterly broken." Nichole and her husbands journey started in 2011. They had no idea that they would have to experience so many losses, test, procedures, surgeries, IUI's and IVF's. She had family, friends and work clients that wanted to help support them with the financial expenses that they were enduring so they donated through a Go-Fund-Me Account. She just kept thinking we are not getting any younger. After so much heartache, loss, grief, and the mental and physical toll on her mind and body someone reached out to recommend a different doctor. They decided to continue their journey and loved this new doctor. She reviewed her medical records and recommended one new test. That was it, they finally had an answer to what was going wrong, but this doctor also discovered fibroid tumors on her uterus. She needed surgery and then a 6-month recovery time after surgery. The biological clock was still ticking and that was still not the end of the heartache but take the time to listen to Nichole's story and fight to now have 3 beautiful children. Nichole's advice and encouragement: Not everyone goes through such a long journey but do not compare your story with others. Your story is unique for you and there is no magic solution. Find support. You need a person to talk to and if it is not family or a friend seek out a counselor to help you through the mental, physical, and emotional difficulties. I look forward to others reaching out to me for help through their journey. We continue our conversation from Episode 13 with JC Corrigan, CFP, about what to consider financially at year's end.  We get into some pretty specific scenarios that may not apply to all people, but are worth understanding.  We start out with self-employed individuals and their deductions and write-offs.  Then, we discuss ways to motivate yourself to create savings goals and hit them rather than just "try" to reduce spending.  We end with health insurance planning (check out Episode 11 for more detailed information) and funding a 529 plan if you have children.  We end with a discussion about books we have recently read and recommendations.Books (Affiliate Links)The Undoing Project by Michael LewisRed Teaming by Bryce G HoffmanRange by David EpsteinAtomic Habits by James ClearFor More Information visit www.suburbanfolk.comVisit our Go Fund Me Account to help with our advertising and equipment costs bit.ly/2RE37QDWe are a part of the Pod All the Time Podcast Network

GRP 72-Raise The Black. On for this week's podcast are two retired Special Forces Green Berets. Bryan Myers, and Loren Schofield both have multiple combat deployments into Afghanistan and Iraq. The Army Special Forces which Bryan and Loren were apart of were responsible for standing up an Iraqi Counter Terrorism Force early on in the war. ISOF (Iraqi Special Operations Forces) has contributed in a tremendous way to the fight against Al-Qaeda in Iraq, and now ISIS. The ICTF (Iraqi Counter Terrorism Force) are a group of battle hardened Iraqi patriots who don't identify themselves as belonging to any particular tribe, or religious sect. They consider them selves Iraqi's and fight for their country. This is important as this region has been embroiled in religious and sectarian violence for many years. Raise The Black is a campaign started by Bryan and Loren to give back to the families of fallen ICTF Operators as they have been fighting constantly for over a decade. The ICTF is single handily responsible for stopping the ISIS advance on Baghdad, and they now lead the offensive to rid Iraq of the terrorist group. Here is the link to the Go Fund Me Account where you can contribute. They plan on moving away from the GoFundMe, but are using it to kick start the campaign. https://www.gofundme.com/raise-the-black Below is an excerpt from the podcast. John: You guys spent a lot of time in Sadr city(Iraq) working with the ICTF. Can you share a story with the audience of your time there? Bryan Meyers: It was a brutal time. It was decided to wall it off with these big tall Texas barriers. They wanted to limit the access to this dangerous area. You were never going to have issues getting in. It was getting out that was the issue. This one night we went in to hit a target. We got our guy and are heading out. I'm manning a .50 cal on our Stryker at this point. An IED had gone off. I look up and i see the Abrams Tank hauling ass. It becomes apparent very quickly that we're missing a Bradley. We went from urgency to a panic. We call to an Apache Gunship. We're like hey man can you fly over Sadr and check if you see a rouge Bradley. In the chaos this Bradley had taken off. Just like a typical male instead of asking for directions they just kept driving. They ended up being as deep as you can get. All i can imagine is all of Sadr's army thinking this has got to be a setup. We were about to have an international incident. We linked up with the Bradley and began our exfil. We had an Abrams tank drive over one of the barriers and decided to exfil that way. The AO commander was pissed. June 9, 2016 This episode originally aired Wednesday, June 08, 2016. Radio legend Frazer Smith and comedian Joe Bartnick (Pittsburgh Native) get together each week to talk hockey with their comedy friends! This week on Puck Off, Joe's out in Pittsburgh with the hopes of seeing the Penguins hoist the Cup in person after a Game Five win on Thursday, but first he takes the time to call in and chat with Frazer about how the Stanley Cup Finals have been going so far...PLUS we have The Weekly Awards, some big news, and Joe gives us a few more awesome stats! *One of our Twitter followers reached out and made us aware of Fight for Jacob: Jacob Brown is a hockey player/fan who was diagnosed with Leukemia. We want to show Jacob we care, and we're rooting for him by sending him hockey pucks from teams from all across the country and the world! You can also help his family out with medical expenses by contributing to their GoFundMe Account as well :) Find out more about Fight for Jacob on Facebook: www.facebook.com/FightJacobFight Check out Fight for Jacob on GoFundMe: www.gofundme.com/22bnp9g LISTEN to the Podcast show right here below or on iTunes, TuneIn and Google Play Music for Android users via “Pittsburgh Podcast Network” HOW TO LISTEN REGULARLY – All shows on the “Pittsburgh Podcast Network” are free and available to listen 24/7 On-Demand in your hand on smartphone and tablet and on your laptop and desktop. – Apple users can find it on the iTunes Podcast app or player. – Android users can find it on the SoundCloud or TuneIn website or app. SEARCH: Pittsburgh Podcast Network Follow Fernando Soltero on Twitter! http://twitter.com/fernandosoltero Follow Puck Off on Twitter! http://twitter.com/PuckOffPodcast Follow the guys on Twitter! http://twitter.com/frazercomedy http://twitter.com/joebartnick http://twitter.com/thisgamecheats Check out their website: http://puckoffpodcast.com Now part of the Pittsburgh Podcast Network http://pittsburghpodcastnetwork.com http://twitter.com/pghpodcast mail@pittsburghpodcastnetwork.com
