On today's tale of two Toyotas, Jason and Derek discuss their parallel experiences driving two angry and estranged hot-hatch siblings: the GR Yaris and the GR Corolla. Jason unpacks a recent drive in the US-bound Corolla variant, while Derek discusses his go in the rest-of-world Yaris while in Europe. Despite its menacing looks, Jason highlights that the GR Corolla is overall more tame, forgiving, and subsequently competent than expected. It's difficult to slide in the dry and less shouty and on-edge when going about its business unlike the Fiat 500 Abarth and Hyundai Veloster N. The triple-cylinder power plant is often restrained- a muffler chop might help! But how is the Yaris in comparison? Derek aligns- it's much the same, but with a bit less power and perhaps a bit more eager to rotate- understandably so with 300 fewer pounds to carry around. This leads to the discussion of modifying cars and kicking failure down the road- an advisory that in most cases, you're probably just better leaving it stock. Or at least, toeing the line between life as stock and death by over-modification. All this and more, brought to you by the Hagerty Podcast Network.

Small cars are out. Cladding and ground clearance is in. Small crossovers are chipping away at the once-beloved hatchback market and are shoving some hot hatchbacks out of the US market. Naturally, automakers will look at the changing tides and try to respond. While performance crossovers are far from new, the Hyundai Kona N takes a look at the small crossover and the future of the hot hatchback. Based on Hyundai's popular Kona, the 2022 Hyundai Kona N takes the pedestrian crossover and turns it into an over-the-top fun machine. Borrowing the performance parts from the Hyundai Veloster N, the Kona N sports a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 that sends 276 hp and 289 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission. That power travels exclusively to the front wheels. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of the 2022 Kona N to put it through its paces. Wren takes you around the hopped-up Hyundai and highlights the features and styling before taking you along for a live-recorded drive review. Adding to this, Wren chats with Autoweek's west coast editor Mark Vaughn about Hyundai's Kona, hot hatchbacks and more. Closing the show, the two talk about what makes this Hyundai Kona N special.
What a week! Chris and Charlie have so many cool cars here at DM HQ, and we drove even more cool cars at the Midwest Automotive Media Association Spring Rally in Elkhart Lake, WI! We got track time in the Cadillac CT5 V Blackwing and Hyundai Veloster N as well as plenty of drive time in the Infiniti QX60. We do have a Miata, but it hasn't gotten much love among the other sporty cars. Sad. Next week we have a Volvo XC60 T8. Oooooooo. After a week away, Chris and Charlie are back at it again, and they've got a lot to catch up on! Between a bunch of cars, sickness, and injuries, these two will be lucky if they make it to 2023. This episode, we recapped our time with the Lincoln Navigator, Jeep Compass, BMW i4, Lexus GX 460, Kia EV6, and Hyundai Veloster N. This week is more calm with a BMW M4 Competition xDrive and a Volvo XC40 T5. Oh, and Charlie is making progress on his Copart Escape hybrid. This week our hosts go fast and the furious. 2022-style, with a pair of sporty compact cars. First Sami talks about the 2022 Honda Civic Si, a sedan that's grown up over the past few generations. Benjamin wonders why Honda won't give the Si more than 200 horsepower from the factory, and Sami asks if the Civic is still true to its sport-compact roots. Benjamin then jumps to the 2022 Hyundai Veloster N, which is now the only model in the Veloster lineup. This quirky three door hatchback has impressed him in the past, but does it still feel good with the new dual-clutch transmission? Sami wonders if the niche Veloster is on the way out, or if quirky vehicles like the Veloster need to be alive in order to secure any charm in the market. Finally Benjamin talks about the recent sky-high auction prices of the classic Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and how that impacts his ownership experience. Listen to it all right here, and don't forget to check in with our hosts on social media or email.
Even though crossovers are constantly demanding more and more effort and attention from automakers, the devout enthusiast segment of hot hatchbacks is still sticking around. While the segment might be smaller than it was in its heyday, the hot hatch world is enticing enough to draw in Hyundai and its Veloster N. Like other hot hatchbacks, the Veloster N takes the bones of Hyundai's economy car and turns it into a performance-oriented machine. Powering this Veloster N is a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 that makes 275 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The Veloster N is now available with either an eight-speed DCT automatic transmission or the standard six-speed manual transmission. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren hops behind the wheel of Hyundai's hot hatch and puts it through the paces. Wren walks you around the 2021 Hyundai Veloster N and highlights its special features, styling and quality. After walking you through the car, Wren takes you along for a drive review. Along with these segments, Wren chats with Patrick Carone and further elaborates on these points. The pair talk about the Veloster N's competition, its price and its performance. Closing the show, the pair explain what makes this Veloster N special.

It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. JAGUAR BRAND WILL BECOME 100% ELECTRIC BY 2025 What do you do with a range of cars with a weight and luxury position which suits combustion engines? They have to go electric. "Jaguar is to recreate itself as the Tesla of the West Midlands and go fully electric within four years. The move will involve the scrapping of the current Jaguar range, bar its much-fêted single-battery model the I-Pace, and the closure of the Castle Bromwich factory east of Birmingham as a car manufacturing plant." reports Robert Lea from Financial Times today: "Jaguar Land Rover’s Indian owners, Tata Motors, intend Jaguar to be an all-electric brand by 2025 and car production will move to Solihull alongside Range Rover." Jaguar XJ Electric has been killed off. Part of a £1bn plan into the Castle Bromwich facility. Facing a write off of between £300-£500m. 200o people work at that site and when the cars made there reach the end of their life, the site becomes non-production. There will be a battery option on every model by 2030 from the group. The first electric Land Rover will be released in 2024. The Jag brand is going all electric and further upmarket. Schmidt Automotive Research said: "The move by the Tata owned premium brand manufacturer is likely driven among other reasons by European Union legislation, with the phase-out of the so called derogation rule applied to passenger car manufacturers that qualify for “niche” car manufacturer status, and therefore register between 10,000 and 300,000 vehicles per year across the 27 market region. The EU CO2 targets are also replicated by British legislation, in place since the UK departed the European Union in 2021 following a one year transition period. The derogation phase-out will take place between 2026-2028. NISSAN ANNOUNCES PLANS FOR NEXT-GEN SMALL VAN IN EUROPE "Nissan confirms plans for its next generation of vans in Europe. The new series will include electric and conventional drives and cover both the light commercial vehicle and passenger van segment. All vans will be made in France." asys electrive "What this means for the future of the Nissan eNV-200 remains unclear. Currently, Nissan is making the e-van in Barcelona, but already said they would close the Spanish plant at the end of this year. Still, the statement now published consider the new all-electric Nissan van to “build on the success of the e-NV200, which was the first all-electric commercial vehicle for the mass market when it was launched in 2014”. So far, Nissan sees production “alongside the next-generation Renault Kangoo” in France." https://www.electrive.com/2021/02/13/nissan-announces-plans-for-next-gen-small-van-in-europe/ VW'S HERBERT DIESS: "I'M NOT SCARED OF APPLE" "Volkswagen's CEO Herbert Diess isn't intimidated by Apple, even though the tech company potentially has an electric car on the way." says CNN:"Volkswagen is also aiming to be a dominant force in the electric car field. The car company sold 231,600 battery electric vehicles in 2020, according to figures published by the company in January. Although that's less than half the number of sales Tesla made last year, it represents an increase of 214% on the previous year and shows Germany's huge auto industry is beginning to mount a challenge to the leader in electric cars." The Model 3 and Model Y are similar cars in many respects. So, sometimes the Model 3 gets features first introduced on the Model Y and sometimes vice versa. For example, the refreshed Tesla Model 3 got things from the Model Y such as “chrome delete” (black replaces the chrome door handles and window trim), a heat pump, and power trunk. And the Model Y has gotten things first introduced on the Model 3 such as auto-dimming side mirrors and double-pane window glass." TESLA INTRODUCES BUYOUT LEASE PROGRAM "For some time, Tesla has not allowed owners to purchase their cars at the end of a leasing period. The car is to be returned to the automaker with no chance of a leaseholder buying out the car at the conclusion of the period. The car would be added to the company’s used inventory, to third-party resalers, or reserved for the future use of the Robotaxi fleet." says Teslarati: "Tesla is offering the option to buy a vehicle at the end of a lease in some markets. The customer has the option to return the vehicle as well in some cases, and Tesla is “reasonably certain” that the leaseholder will take possession of the vehicle title when the lease ends." Belgium Croatia Denmark France Italy the Netherlands Poland Taiwan TESLA GRANTING ACCESS TO THIRD PARTY REPAIRERS – WITH A CATCH! "Independent car dealerships now also have unrestricted access to the Tesla brand's repair and maintenance information. At the turn of the year, the vehicle manufacturer adapted its platform for repair and maintenance information accordingly." says Automobilwoche: "In mid-2020, the industry association ZDK and other market participants lodged a complaint with the EU Commission against Tesla's discrimination against independent service companies. According to the current legislation, all motor vehicle operations must be granted non-discriminatory access to repair and maintenance information as well as to diagnostic and programming software. This week we have Eli Melnick from Start Auto Electric joining us to talk about vehicle mainenance and service intervals. We talk about the confusion surrounding oil change and fluid intervals for vehicle maintenance. Are longer fluid change intervals acceptable? Should you follow the dealership recommendations? Should you consult the vehicle owner's manual? We answer all of these questions and more. Finally, we share our thoughts on the new vehicle test drive of the week, the 2019 Hyundai Veloster N.
Benjamin falls in love with the rowdy 2019 Hyundai Veloster N, and is convinced it's the most fun hot hatch on the market. Sami thinks Benjamin might be crazy. The pair also discuss the future of the N Performance brand, and what vehicles might be ripe for their own N treatment.
Catching up in the studio after driving some stuff including the new Hyundai Veloster N and the 53-series Mercedes-AMG cars with the inline six-cylinder engines. We also have a debate about whether or not Tesla is scamming people by charging a fee for a "future autonomous driving" feature that may or may not ever exist.

Can you drive the 707 horsepower Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk at near-freezing temperatures on rain-slicked roads and not fall prey to its supercharged, world-killing drivetrain? Benjamin discovers that the answer is yes after a week behind the wheel in chilly Montreal. The pair also get deep with the 2019 Hyundai Veloster N, a hot hatch that's poised to shake up the established order, before Sami does his best to survive the Lightning Round when talking about the Honda CR-V, the Mazda CX-5, and the Subaru Forester.
On this episode of the Autoweek Podcast, host Rory Carroll talks about his recent trip to the US Grand Prix at Austin, Texas. He and Jimmy Pelizzari go over the food, general experience and Rory’s discussions with Daniel Ricciardo and other members of the Red Bull Racing team. The gang also talks about the race, their expectations going into it and Kimi Räikkönen’s upset win over the dominant Lewis Hamilton. After the Formula 1 chitchat, Jimmy tells us about his trip to the Lake Superior Performance Rally, where his Subaru got a stage win. He also talks about his end-of-season results. Jimmy riffs briefly about the history of LSPR before guiding you through his trip behind the wheel of his Subaru rally machine. Following that, Jake Lingeman and Wesley Wren interview Deepak Kamath, Deepak Gupta and Avinash PS of the Dominar Polar Odyssey excursion. For those unaware, these three are riding motorcycles from, essentially, the North Pole to the South Pole. Wesley and Jake ask them about the start of their journey and what they expect to see during their adventure. Rounding out the episode, Rory left the keys to the studio on his desk during his trip to this year’s SEMA Show, and Wesley, Jake and Graham Kozak snuck in to talk about Graham’s Packard and Jake’s latest drive of the Hyundai Veloster N at Thunderhill Raceway Park.
The short list of performance cars that mere mortals can afford has grown by one- Hyundai’s Veloster N. Track ready the moment it leaves the dealership lot, it’s also a comfortable daily driver. Tom Voelk travels to Thunderhill Raceway Park in California to flog this hot hatch. He also interviews Albert Biermann, the engineer poached by Hyundai from BMW’s M Performance division to make the N letter perfect.
