Are we being locked out of the countryside, or is the narrative around land access more complex than it seems? How can we navigate the competing demands of farmers, conservationists, and recreational users? In Patrick's new book "Uncommon Ground: Rethinking Our Relationship with the Countryside", he tackles the contentious topic of land access in Britain - revealing perspectives that challenge both sides of the debate. From questioning the famous "8% access" statistic to exploring deeper issues of engagement with nature, this episode delves beyond the simplistic narratives that often dominate the conversation.Throughout our discussion, Patrick shares his journey researching this divisive topic, which surprisingly led him to change his own views along the way. We explore the distinction between mere access and meaningful engagement with nature, hearing stories from Romany Gypsies, conservationists, farmers, and access campaigners. Patrick reflects on how many of those calling for unfettered access lack basic knowledge about wildlife, such as ground-nesting birds, whilst some landowners remain disconnected from the very land they own. The conversation reveals how political ideologies often overshadow the practical matters of land management and conservation.Beyond the polarised debate, we consider what positive change might look like. Patrick suggests that rather than focusing solely on access rights, we should be examining how to create meaningful engagement opportunities - whether through educational initiatives with local schools, community involvement in conservation, or subsidies tied to public engagement. As our countryside faces increasing pressure from a growing population, finding common ground becomes essential. This episode challenges listeners to move past tribal positions and consider how we might better balance the needs of people, wildlife, and the land that sustains us all.Buy Patrick's Book
How Does God's Audible Voice Really Sound? Insights from a Modern-Day Encounter Some people talk about hearing the audible voice of God. What does that sound like? And should we expect to hear it? On this episode of the God Conversations podcast, we're talking about the "audible" voice of God, why God rarely speaks this way and what our expectations should be for how the Spirit speaks. Our guest has heard the audible voice of God five times and has plenty of insights from his story. Patrick Hegarty is a pastor of a church in Brisbane, Australia but also heads up a a national church planting organisation. He's also authored several books on spiritual formation and renewal. In this episode, you'll hear about: Patrick's back story, raised in an atheist environment and becoming a Christian at age 19. After 20 years of working in business and “avoiding God's call,” Patrick changed careers and became a full time minister. Patrick's experiences of God's audible voice. Patrick describes it as feeling “almost normal," since it involves the God you know in everyday life. When God speaks out loud, it is almost like the Spirit is shouting in the moment, but as you reflect, you realise no-one else heard it. “God's voice is normally very disruptive. I've never found God to speak at a convenient time!” The God conversation that inspired Patrick's book on leadership and discipleship such that he finished 90,000 words in just three weeks. Patrick's God conversation in Kenya. Patrick was on a ministry trip surrounded by poverty and devastation in the biggest slum in Africa when God spoke out loud: “I remember these people, I want you to remember them.” In Patrick's words, it was like “listening to heaven while looking into hell.” As a result, Patrick started a charity in the area that continues to this day. As I was looking down in the valley - the biggest slum in Africa - I saw toddlers looking in a stream of rubbish and sewage for food. I had my ears listening to heaven and my eyes looking into hell. Suddenly I heard the out loud voice of God. Everything else went quiet. “I remember these people, I want you to remember them.” The difference between God's “quiet” voice and God's “loud” voice. Patrick sees the audible voice as God's way of making a point that would otherwise be difficult to make. At the same time, the out loud voice is not necessarily the preferred form, since God wants to speak in our everyday moments. The quieter voice also tends to call us to actively seek and listen to God. Like a game of spiritual hide and seek, it's in the seeking that we build the spiritual muscles we need. The outside voice has to be the exception, while a quiet voice is a mark of intimacy. We should always seek the person not the experience. Advice for hearing God's voice. Patrick says with a smile, “buyer beware.” God's voice calls for transformation and action! Subscribe to God Conversations with Tania Harris and never miss an episode! About Patrick Patrick has worked for over 20 years in a broad range of Christian movements. Having authored several books on formation and renewal, led and planted churches, and taken over 10,000 people through courses and spiritual retreats, he has seen God do many incredible things across the globe. Patrick leads Kenmore Church in Brisbane, founded the Connexa development incubator, and is currently launching M4 Australia, a national church planting organisation. Previously an engineer and business owner, Patrick has been married to Trish for 36 years, with whom he spends any spare time along with their two children and six grandsons. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Patrick Gruban has joined the EV UK board, published by Rob Gledhill on April 3, 2024 on The Effective Altruism Forum. I'm happy to announce that Patrick Gruban has recently joined the board of Effective Ventures Foundation (UK). This update follows our previous announcement about other changes to the EV UK and EV US boards, and it is our hope that Patrick will be the last new trustee to join before all projects fiscally sponsored by EV are offboarded into independent entities. Patrick is currently the co-Director of EA Germany, where he leads the national group for the third largest[1] EA community. In addition to his current role, he brings a wealth of experience and operational knowledge from his career as a serial entrepreneur, which stretches back to the mid-1990s. In Patrick's words, "I'm excited to support the EA ecosystem's evolution through projects spinning off from EV. Nine years ago, I was inspired by EA ideas. Since 2020, I have been an active member and organizer of my local group and, since 2023, of the national EA community in Germany. I see my mission as using my experience as an entrepreneur to support the EA community to help people have more impact. Having expressed critiques of the EV and other EA boards last year, I'm particularly enthusiastic about this opportunity to make a difference." The EV UK trustees and I are excited for Patrick to be joining the board, and especially to be able to benefit from his previous experience in other leadership roles. We believe that his background will be of particular value to us during this last phase of EV. Other EV UK and EV US trustee updates To follow up on some of our previously announced changes, I also wanted to confirm that Tasha McCauley and Claire Zabel have stepped down from the EV UK board. Nicole Ross is also intending on stepping down from the EV US board shortly, and Eli Rose will complete his transition from the EV US board to the EV UK board in the near future. Finally, we had originally intended for Johnstuart Winchell to serve as an EV UK trustee, but he's instead switched over to serving on our EV US board. ^ Germany has remained the third largest country for respondents in the EA yearly survey (after the United States and the United Kingdom) as of 2022. There are places in geography. There are places in the heart. There are places in time.Where shall we start?– Indy BeaglePlaces in Geography:“We have thought how places are able to evoke moods, as color and line in a picture may capture and warp us to a pattern the painter intended.”– John Steinbeck, Sea of Cortez, p. 256Places in the Heart:“God only knows what I'd be without you. If you should ever leave me, though life would still go on, believe me, the world could show nothing to me. So what good would living do me?”– Brian WilsonPlaces in Time:“There are places I'll remember all my life, though some have changed; some forever, not for better. Some have gone, and some remain. All these places had their moments with lovers and friends I still can recall. Some are dead and some are living. In my life, I've loved them all.”– John LennonMy favorite singer-songwriter, James Taylor, was interviewed recently. When James was asked about his life-controlling addiction to drugs as a young man, he answered with these words:“The key for an addict is how much of a relief the addict felt when they first discovered their drug of choice. When that really works for them, watch out for the backend, because you'll hold on until the very end. You'll be the last person to admit that it's gotta go.”I was considering these places and spaces in the darkness of early morning when the tone of an arriving text turned my eyes toward the telephone. My friend had been reading the Monday Morning Memos in the archives from 15 years ago and had a couple of questions for me. One of those questions triggered the memory of someone whose life briefly intersected with Pennie's and mine 38 years ago.And Now We Shall Start:Patrick is two years older than me. He is insightful and articulate, but his life has been shattered into sharp little shards. When a person has been irretrievably shattered, they have a hard time holding themselves together. When he was a boy, Patrick saw his mother kill his father in the street outside their home. He and his mother did not get along after that. And all the King's horses and all the King's men couldn't put Patrick together again.Watching your father fall is not at all like watching the rainfall, or the snowfall, or the light fall softly on the window pane. Watching your father fall is different. In Patrick's case it led to him being held tightly in the sharp talons of the law like an eagle holds tightly to a mouse.Policemen are attracted to Patrick like iron to a magnet. And Patrick is pulled toward prison like a moth is pulled toward the flame.Patrick was headed back to prison when Pennie and I let him sleep in our spare bedroom 38 years ago. He was there for only a few weeks, but it was long enough to get to know him and all the monsters he was fighting in his mind.Patrick's life has a rhythm. He serves his time, gets out of prison, and promptly goes back to prison again.Patrick isn't crazy. He has a sharp, clear mind, an impressive vocabulary, and a deep understanding of the reality that surrounds him. His crime is that he uses illegal chemicals to escape that reality, and he is smart enough to manufacture those chemicals himself.“Uh-oh. That's a no-no. We're going to have to put you back in your cage, Patrick.”In the 67 years of Patrick's lonely life, his only romantic interest has been his love for chemical escape. Chemicals are the music of his life. To him, they are like the Big Band music of Glenn Miller and Cole Porter. In my mind, I see Patrick dancing with a mirror-image of himself as he looks back at the day he first learned how to escape his pain.“That's the way it began, we were hand-in-hand, Glenn Miller's Band was better...

Welcome to episode #122! Matt and Braden chat with Patrick, a man with an amazing story of knowing God's strength after enduring many trials and life-altering sexual mistakes!Sexual abuse is devastatingPatrick was sexually abused by multiple men in his childhood. He told his mom once, but she didn't speak of it again and then invited the abuser to live in their home. From this, Patrick was convinced that he didn't matter and developed a habit of not opening up when things were hard. In his early teen years, he started feeling urges to do to other boys what the older men had done to him. Though he was dating girls at the time, his attraction to men was just beginning to take shape with initial desires to repeat the behaviour done to him in his abuse.Secrets only make things worsePatrick started acting out with gay porn and having escapades with men, but never told anybody that this was an issue. In his first marriage, his wife never found out about the secret he kept in the dark, which only allowed his desires to take over. In Patrick's second marriage, he was out of control in his search of gay sex and eventually caught STIs. He felt an urge to end his life when he contracted HIV, but later heard God's audible voice speaking to him about his new disease. He had to tell his wife about his HIV, which was the start of him walking in freedom from decades of sexual sin. Trials shape usPatrick lists many things that wouldn't be in his life today if it weren't for HIV. First and foremost, intimacy with his wife is at a deeper level forever because he has no other sexual outlets and he finally feels fully known - and yet loved. God has used his trial and his past to impact others and he is now mentoring individuals to teach them how to live a life of freedom - a life he finally knows.Share this with your friendsWho do you know that can benefit from this podcast and other episodes coming in the future? Nine time Emmy Award-winning soap scribe Patrick Mulcahey will join me in The Locher Room to look back at his incredible career writing for many of your favorite daytime dramas. As Patrick tells it, "I was having a fine misspent youth in 1979, writing plays and waiting tables in New Orleans, when a call came asking: Would he be interested in writing for Search For Tomorrow? Sure, I said. “What is it?” Patrick has written for Another World (briefly), Texas, Guiding Light (twice), Loving, Santa Barbara, General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful, two short-lived primetime series, and two MOWs (Movies of the Week). Patrick earned his first Emmy win at Guiding Light working where he was working side by side with Douglas Marland until Douglas left the show. 40 years after his start at Search for Tomorrow, Patrick left The Bold and the Beautiful at the end of 2019 and in his post-soap pandemic shutdown life, he's writing plays nobody's seen (no eyeballs in shutdown theaters), submitting to contests nobody's heard of (won three of them, though), and enjoying the wilds of the North Cascade Mountains in Washington state, where he lives quietly and happily with his husband, who's also named Patrick Mulcahey, to the amusement of everyone but TSA. (In Patrick's words)Don't miss the chance to catch up with this talented and prolific writer.Original Airdate: 11/11/2021

As Soul, we know everything.” “We’re not separate from Soul. We’re not separate from Spirit.” Patrick gives guidance about how to listen to these things and how to act on them. Patrick plays two videos about Coronavirus — two interviews with Dr. Scott Atlas, an advisor on the White House Coronavirus Task Force. COVID-19 is less dangerous than the average flu virus. Patrick discusses the Plan behind the “virus.” He also discusses the Trump-Biden debate and its implications. Patrick reads two of Atom’s e-mails relating to Corona fines and treatment. The globalist media has been all over Trump from the beginning. Patrick discusses the cod liver oil he’s taking. It’s part of the Morley Robbins protocol. Patrick describes the Federal Reserve Bank’s “Fed coins” and other control mechanisms. “It gets more and more Orwellian with every passing day.” Patrick reads Atom’s e-mail about cod liver oil. Patrick went to the farmers’ market on Wednesday, and bought desiccated pig ears. “And Dr. Jennifer Daniels says pig ears are like the best source for collagen.” Dr. Tom Cowan’s latest book, The Contagion Myth (with Sally Fallon Morell), is available on his website. In Patrick’s dream state, Sharon told him to keep his beard. Sharon (out of the dream state) comments with an e-mail. Patrick discusses the dream state and Soul Travel. He talks about his screenplay and our lives as our personal “screenplays.” Patrick talks to Mark in Copenhagen, Denmark. They discuss Coronavirus, comorbidity, individual realities, self-reliance, the Matrix, and other subjects. Mark talks extensively about his plans to live on a boat off the grid.

I nearly screamed at my lawyer… “You’ve got to be kidding me!” Years ago, I was finishing up a real estate deal when my lawyer told me that I had to notarize a document. No signature, no deal. But that signature had to be from a notary, someone that’s earned the authority of the state to approve that I actually was who I said I was. It’s an archaic process but it’s necessary to fight off fraud. The problem was that I travel. A lot. I was on the move and it couldn’t wait until I was back home. So I had to hunt down an approved notary in a city I barely knew, figure out when he was free, and meet him at a convenience store. Just to prove that my ID was actually mine. I remember thinking, “Surely someone can streamline this process…” Well, someone has. Patrick Kinsel is the founder and CEO of Notarize, the first approved digital notary service. Instead of shady convenience store appointments, Notarize can connect you with an official notary straight from your laptop in an average of 30 seconds. The story of Notarize is an amazing journey, and Patrick shared it all with me on the latest episode of Escape Velocity right here. Want a lesson is perseverance? Notarize’s biggest problem… was that their technology wasn’t legal to begin with. So Patrick’s company raised $42 million in capital, and spent over $10 million of that just to lobby for laws to change so that digital notarization could exist. Imagine starting a SaaS that literally needed new laws before it was legal… It’s a great interview, and you’ll hear from Patrick about: - How they managed to change 22 state laws - Buying domain names for $42k - Building a product roadmap in reverse - How Notarize solved the new problems they were creating - Rewriting history books In Patrick’s own words, they wanted to be the first company that made it possible for you to buy a house on the internet. And that’s exactly what they’ve done. Stop by the episode, hear the story for yourself, and drop me a comment to let me know what amazed you the most. -- Dan Martell has advised more startups than his hometown has people and teaches startup founders like you how to scale. Patrick Lencioni is the founder of The Table Group and the bestselling author of 11 books. He is the architect of organizational health, a concept that he calls the last competitive advantage in business today. Pat's passion for leadership and organizational health can be traced all the way to his first exposure to business as a child, when his dad lamented about working for a company with “bad management.” Pat didn't really know what management was at the time, but he knew that it was a bummer for his dad – and he eventually learned, after starting his first job, that that was dysfunction. “I'm passionate about helping organizations not be dysfunctional so that people like my dad don't have to suffer through it, because we spend too many hours at work for it to be dysfunctional.” Pat's dad always wanted him to get a great job, and he did! He got the best job of anyone in his graduating class… and he was bored. “I was so un-attracted to data and analysis, and I was fascinated by the human beings I saw. I was watching really intelligent people make fundamental mistakes because of human behavior, ego, and things like that,” and he realized that he could help. In Patrick's most recent book, The Ideal Team Player: How to Recognize and Cultivate The Three Essential Virtues, he aims to help individuals make a difference in their own teams. Pat identifies the three virtues that make some people better team players than others: Humility - If pride is the root of all sin, then humility is the antidote. “And human beings are attracted to others that are not tied up in themselves.” Hunger - If you want to be a great team player, you have to be the kind of person who works really hard. That doesn't mean be a workaholic, but if you're going to do something, do it well. Emotional Intelligence - You need common sense around other people; you have to understand how what you say impacts others, be sensitive to their needs, and consider what they're thinking. “If you are emotionally intelligent, hard working, and humble, your career will have no problems. I promise!” -- Resources: Learn more at https://www.tablegroup.com/ (TheTableGroup.com) Connect with Pat: LinkedIn | https://twitter.com/patricklencioni (Twitter) Join Patrick for the Inaugural Organizational Health Summit (May 10, 2018) -- We are brought to you by the Lawton Marketing Group, a full service advertising and design agency serving companies and entrepreneurs at all levels. Scott and Patrick talk specifically about the importance of acknowledging your sexual history. Group Questions: This episode uncovers some deep and hurtful experiences such as sexual abuse, same-sex attraction, and childhood abuse. If you are in a group setting, be aware that this is sensitive for many people to discuss. Reach out to the Southland staff if someone in your group wants or needs to discuss further. In Patrick’s book ‘Grace and Sexuality’ he says, “To be born into the American culture is to be born into trauma”. Do you agree with his thoughts? Why is there so much shame associated with our sexual history? Why do we want to hide and cover up? How early would you say your first sexual experiences occurred? Were you taught about your sexual desires as a child? Who talked to you about how to express them in a healthy way? If not, where did you learn from? There’s a big difference in these two sayings: “Sex is dirty and let’s not talk about it,” and “God created sex. He created our bodies this way and he created marriage between and man and a woman. What a great God we serve!” Which view resonates with you? Why? Patrick said, “I am what happened to me, but what choices and decisions do I have now to glorify God?” How could that perspective help us move past our sexual histories? Read 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7. How can your sexual struggles help you put your trust in God rather than being a victim?

In this episode housing blogger Patrick Killelea explains why real-estate prices still have a long ways to fall in the tonier communities. Prices fell faster in poor areas where people live paycheque to paycheque. The more well heeled home-owner has assets to burn through, and it takes them longer to get desperate enough to take losses. Patrick also talks about how the primary problem is the masses of bad debt, out of relation to incomes, which still hasn’t been written down throughout the economy. In Patrick’s view, the cozy relationships between banks and government have made the financial crisis what it is. The only thing government efforts to subsidize housing (or anything else, like education) accomplish is to drive up prices.
