In December, the 2nd Annual LatinX State of the Wine Industry Summit was held at RD Winery in Napa Valley. I missed the event but thought the topic was important enough to share on my podcast, so I met up with the moderator of the event, the dynamic Gabriela Fernandez. The all-day wine industry summit focused on the contributions the Hispanic and LatinX communities have made to the wine industry and celebrated the diversity, perseverance, and legacy-building resilience of those who have become known as the backbone of America's wine industry. The list of sponsors is impressive! The LatinX Wine Industry Summit event was presented by Hispanics in Wine, Uncorked and Cultured, and The Big Sip. Thirty one respected wineries, from Oregon and California, shared their wine during the finale, La Gran Cata. I believe you will find Gabriela truly passionate about the need for this kind of event. I'm convinced and will mark my calendar as soon as the 2023 date is announced.

We were joined in the studio today by Top of Virginia Regional Chamber CEO, Richard Kennedy & Director of Program/Development, Jody Wall to talk about the State of the Schools presentation coming up on Wednesday, January 25th from 11:30pm - 1:30pm at Holiday Inn Winchester Historic Gateway - 333 Front Royal Pike in Winchester. The chamber is again hosting this yearly event in partnership with the Winchester Area chapter of Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), & Lord Fairfax Community College Workforce Solutions. Rachel Schaeffer from Winchester SHRM, and Dr. Jason Van Heukelum, Winchester City Schools Superintendent also joined us to talk about the topic of the presentation: Creating the Workforce of Tomorrow through Partnerships. The State of the Schools address will be a joint presentation featuring the Superintendents of the City of Winchester Public Schools (Dr. Jason Van Heukelum), Clarke County Public Schools (Dr. Chuck Bishop), and Frederick County Public Schools (Dr. David T. Sovine) for local Winchester Area SHRM Chapter and the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber member/prospective member businesses. The joint presentation will provide updates on the status of each school system in addressing the workforce issues recently identified by the Business and Industry Summit hosted by the Frederick County Economic Development Authority. The Business and Education Workforce Initiative vision sets forth a plan to have a skilled workforce that meets the needs of local employers by understanding the skills required by students to function independently in society. Goals of the plan include developing strategies to have students know and demonstrate required work skills in concert with those identified by the community and local industry. Learn how the school systems will address closing the skills gap of the future, and how they intend to focus on increasing the number of eligible and skilled candidates within our community. There is no cost to attend the event if you're a member of SHRM. You can register here: http://washrm.shrm.org/forms/creating-workforce-tomorrow-through-partnerships If you're a member (or prospective member) of the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber, you can register here: http://www.regionalchamber.biz/events/details/state-of-the-schools-address-4072
