The Sons of UCF spoke with former UCF Baseball Coach Jay Bergman in a wide ranging interview covering his career with the Knights. Bergman was named coach in 1983, taking over a program that was behind in facilities, lacked a recruiting budget, and without a culture of consistent success. Over the next 26 years, Bergman helped to usher UCF Baseball into a new era, buttressed by the performances of MLB caliber players such as Chad Mottola, Justin Pope, Dee Brown, Jason Arnold, Mike Maroth, and a young Rich Wallace (now the current UCF Head Baseball Coach). Bergman's tenure with UCF came to an end in 2008 amidst allegations of misconduct, and he has largely steered clear of UCF since. However, with the appointment of Wallace as head coach, Bergman has had an opportunity to re-join the Knight community he served for so long. In this episode: Timmins—James Bay NDP MP Charlie Angus, South Okanagan—West Kootenay NDP MP Richard Cannings, Skeena—Bulkley Valley NDP MP Taylor Bachrach, Abacus Data CEO David Coletto, Traxxion Strategies President Karl Bélanger, Canadian Strategy Group senior manager of public affairs Sally Housser, University of Saskatchewan Political Studies Professor David McGrane,, St-John's East riding association president Amanda Will, Jason Arnold, of the United Steelworkers Local 7619 at the Highland Valley Copper Mine, and longtime New Democrat and socialist caucus co-chair Barry Weisleder. Hosted by Althia Raj. This weekend as federal New Democrats gather in Hamilton for the party's first in-person convention in five years, we'll take stock of the NDP's current challenges and review the leadership of Jagmeet Singh. Six years ago, when Singh took over the party, many hoped he'd be able to stop the bleeding of NDP votes to the Liberal party. But instead of growing the party's caucus, Singh lost 20 seats in his first election and was only able to gain one more seat in his last campaign. Now, the NDP's leader faces another leadership review. One that's being held in the context of the party's supply and confidence agreement with the Liberal party. Will New Democrats throw their support behind their leader, or will cracks emerge this weekend as some members fear a closer alignment with an unpopular federal government? But before we tackle that question, we'll first hear from three NDP MPs, whose ridings are high on Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre's target list, on why the Official Opposition leader sees opportunity in their communities and how they intend to fight back. Then we'll sit down with Abacus Data CEO David Coletto for a look at the numbers and what they reveal about the party's support and the popularity of the NDP pact with the Liberals. And discuss it all with Karl Bélanger, the party's former national director and principal secretary to former NDP leader Thomas Mulcair, Sally Housser, a former NDP strategist in Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ottawa, and David McGrane, a political studies professor at the University of Saskatchewan and the author of the book “The New NDP: Moderation, Modernization and Political Marketing.” We'll also hear from three NDP convention delegates: St-John's East riding association president Amanda Will, United Steelworker local executive Jason Arnold, and the co-chair of the party's socialist caucus Barry Weisleder. Some of the clips this week were sourced from The House of Commons, CPAC, CTV, CBC, Charlie Angus' YouTube page, Pierre Poilievre's YouTube page, Pierre Poilievre's Twitter account, CFTK-TV in Terrace, B.C., The Curse of Politics podcast. It is rare that we find an aeromodeller that has a single focus in one discipline of model flight. It is even more uncommon to find an avid aeromodeller that owns only one model! You could say Jason Arnold doesn't fit the traditional mould of an aeromodeller, but there is no disputing he is a one eyed pattern aerobatics fanatic. Not only does Jason enjoy competing in pattern flying competition but is the current President of the Australian Precision Aerobatics group as well as operating a retail business specialising in pattern model aircraft and components. We discuss Jason's beginnings in the hobby, the upcoming pattern world championships that will be held in Australia in 2023 and much more.
Dennis is joined via soon by Mark Nubar & Jason Arnold (AKA Shyboy) the musicians and club promoters behind the upcoming mash-up dance party Madonna Summer, which is returning for Pride on June 11th at the 10 ½ nightclub in Downtown Los Angeles. Jason and Mark talk about their love of diva wordplay, why the music of Donna Summer and Madonna work so well together, how both singers were pioneers in their own way and what it feels like behind the deejay booth when the crowd is going nuts for what you're doing. They also discuss their other diva mashup parties: Britney Houston, Gaga Lipa and Riyonce and break down what they love about each of the singers they feature. Other topics include: how Mark and Jason first met at a lesbian bar in the Castro, the song lyric they got wrong for years, the songs that remind them of Pride, why Prince goes well with Christmas, the ecstasy of backroom hookups, how much they miss record stores and what music, in general, has meant to them in their lives. www.djshyboy.com

Hence my interest in Jason's work, and his efforts made for great radio! {Hearsay Culture is a talk show on KZSU-FM, Stanford, 90.1 FM, hosted by Center for Internet & Society Resident Fellow David S.
