A police report obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle details Zahra Hajee's accusations against Kevin Ortiz. Hajee, a former aide to San Francisco City Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, has also worked for Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA). She claims Ortiz sexually assaulted her in March and April 2021. Ortiz denies the allegations, saying through his lawyers that the encounters were consensual. Ortiz is the co-president of the Latinx Democratic Club and was working for Pelosi when he met Hajee in early 2021. While he continues to serve as president of the political club, Ortiz left the Democratic leader's office in 2022. In an attempt to verify his claims that the relationship was mutual, the former Pelosi aide provided screenshots of text messages that show Hajee repeatedly requesting to meet up with Ortiz. Kim and Producer Steve are joined in studio by Liberty Toastmaster member Christie Whaley and founder of Patriotic Bible Study Chris Tubbs. This Thanksgiving week the four are grateful for living in America, the wisdom of our Founding Fathers, and our Divine Provider. God is with us. We have a civic duty to preserve liberty as the American Idea is very unique. Colonial Americans read the Bible on a daily basis, including the children, and they knew how to live because of the Bible; very different from today. The beauty of America is that “We the People” make the decisions on who represents us versus governed by a king, a dictator, a czar, a sultan, a chief, etc… Christie reads Giving Thanks to the Invisible Hand written by Jeff Jacoby in 2003. It begins, “GRATITUDE TO THE ALMIGHTY is the theme of Thanksgiving, and has been ever since the Pilgrims of Plymouth brought in their first good harvest.” Danielle Green with Kirsch Insurance Group, Medicare Insurance specialists, reminds listeners that December 7th is the last day for the 2022 Medicare Open Enrollment as there will be no changes allowed after that date. The advantage of working with Kirsch Insurance Group is their proprietary software that assesses prescription drug coverage with a variety of insurance carriers. Many Kirsch Insurance Group clients have saved substantial amounts of money as Kirsch Insurance Group helps you choose the plan that works best for you. Kim, Christie and Chris continue their conversation regarding the “invisible hand.” Politicians, Bureaucrats and Interested Parties (PBIs) has overreached their power and authority in their response to the COVID-19/Wuhan-China virus. Less than 1% of COVID reported cases have died of COVID. More than 99% of those reported with COVID survive. PBIs are intentionally stripping the rights of the people and “We the People” must put the government back in its limited boundaries, having less power than the individual. History shows that people flourish under Capitalism. Under “statism” people lose their spirit and react to the whims of the government by retracking. Capitalism can cure almost any issue, including racism. Christie shares the example that in today's service industry you need both a diverse workforce and clientele. Christie concludes that the truth is found in God and she is grateful to our Founding Fathers. Chris states that we must trust God and love our fellow man. Chris can be reached at thechristubbs@gmail.com or on social media with the handle thechristubbs.

Jordan Rich Fills In On NightSide with Dan Rea:The Boston Marathon was postponed by 6 months this year due to COVID. The new date for this year's marathon is Monday Oct. 11th, which also happens to be Columbus Day, or Indigenous Peoples Day. Every year the Boston Athletic Association requests permits from the towns that their race runs through. When the B.A.A. went to request a permit from Brookline, they were met with harsh criticism from some board members for how the race fell on Indigenous Peoples Day. Vice Chairman Raul Fernandez said the B.A.A.'s decision to hold the race on Oct. 11th was one more example of how Indigenous People in their community “are continuously left out of conversations.” Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby joins Jordan to discuss.

On June 19, Rutgers University's English Department announced a slew of actions it would be taking in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, including incorporating critical grammar into its pedagogy. As department chair Rebecca L. Walkowitz explained, this new approach seeks to foster "a critical awareness of the variety of choices available to [students] w/ regard to micro-level [grammatical] issues." In response, the conservative Twittersphere swiftly attempted to CANCEL Rutgers English, with everyone from Andrew Sullivan to Thomas Chatterton Williams anointing themselves writing pedagogy experts and declaring Rutgers' approach substandard. But what exactly *is* critical grammar, and why might writing teachers want to deploy it? Further, what specific aspects of these conservative arguments makes them so misinformed, out-of-touch, and morally indefensible? To help answer these questions, Alex and Calvin are honored to be joined by Asao B. Inoue, professor and associate dean for Academic Affairs, Equity, and Inclusion in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts at Arizona State University. Drawing heavily upon Professor Inoue's knowledge of critical language instruction, we address two conservative media responses to Rutgers English's announcement. The first piece we discuss, from Jeff Jacoby at The Patriot Post (yes, this is a real website), argues that writing instruction should be less concerned with social justice and more like Winston Churchill's grade school grammar classes. The second piece, from Fox News' The Ingraham Angle, directly samples an interview with Professor Inoue from last year, both fixating on his use of the term “languaging” and missing his point entirely, which he clarifies and contextualizes for us.After closely reading these texts, we conclude by noting an irony that may be familiar to listeners of past re:joinder episodes: these arguments fail even on their own terms, lacking logical rigor, empirical evidence, and rhetorical elegance. By contrast, we attempt to back up our arguments with credible research, anti-racist principles, and lived experiences of teaching and studying writing more recently than the 1990s.Relevant works by Asao B. Today's episode features a deep dive into the Bivens action, with a little help from everyone's favorite nutso conspiracy theorist lawyer, Larry Klayman -- and his newest client, Roger Stone sidekick Jerome Corsi. Find out what sorts of wacky shenanigans these guys have been up to, and why they think they've hit a $350 million jackpot. (Hint: they haven't.) First, though, we begin with an insightful question from a listener regarding Clarence Thomas's jurisprudence and whether the frequent criticism of Justice Thomas as lazy is tinged with racism. During the main segment, it's time for the breakdown of the latest Corsi lawsuit. It's a doozy -- it's everything you'd expect from someone who hired Larry Klayman (on purpose!) to be his lawyer. Then, we answer a fun listener question about court filings, time zones, and the international date line. It's Around Opening Arguments In 80 Days! Julius Caesar is Shakespeare’s classic depiction of the abuse of power, political assassination and intrigue – a plot that would rival any episode of House of Cards or Scandal. The play offers a valuable and timeless springboard for a discussion of the use of executive power in 21st century America – and its future under a Clinton or Trump presidency. -- The Shakespeare & the Law series features a staged reading of the abridged play performed by prominent judges, attorneys, journalists, political strategists and scholars, followed by a panel discussion that explores the implications of the work in the era of Obama, Clinton and Trump. Presented in partnership with the Federalist Society, McCarter & English LLP, and Foley Hoag LLP. -- This event took place at the Wimberly Theatre at the Boston Center of the Arts in Boston, MA on September 28, 2016. -- Participants include: David J. Will introduces us to Jeff Jacoby and his beloved son Caleb, whom the Boston Globe writer pens an open letter to each year in his newspaper column.
It was great to welcome back to Pundit Review Radio Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby. It had been far too long between visits with Jeff. We discussed his excellent Sunday column, Tea Party Sounds a Needed Alarm, which focused on John Kerry’s snobbery and intellectual dishonesty, "Kerry is under no obligation to like the Tea Party’s style. He does have an obligation to contend responsibly with its arguments. A fiscal fire is burning, and reasonable people can differ on how best to quell it. But silencing the siren will accomplish nothing." Beyond the ridiculousness that is John Kerry, we discussed the implications of Iowa and we even talked some about our junior senator, Scott Brown, his job performance to date and the prospect of a campaign against Elizabeth Warren. I really enjoyed talking to Jeff last night. There will be no long stretch between visits with us again. Is it time to go already? As most of you know, I am graduating from the BECA department @ SFSU this semester. After two full years of doing my radioshow, "Just Enough for the City," on KSFS, Friday the 17th, will be my final show on the air. P.S. A huge thanks goes out to many people who made my show so much fun. Thank you, to my three main cohosts over the course of the show: Daniel Ancheta, Mike Krems, and Mathew Russell. Thanks to one of my biggest mentors, and not just when it comes to radio, Jeff Jacoby; and to all the managers, staff, and friends who make it all possible. Mad love. Travis McKinnon
Jeff Jacoby of the Boston Globe joined me last night to discuss Joe Biden and his strengths and weaknesses as a candidate. We also discussed Obama, what he needs to accomplish at the convention and whether or not things like Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers are fair game or dirty politics. We also discussed what McCain needs to do with his VP selection. Jeff is a true gentleman and it was great to have him back on the show.
