Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Bob Gunton, Legendary Actor, Star, “The Shawshank Redemption” About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, Bob Gunton, is a veteran actor whose prolific body of work over the past 5 decades has created some of the most memorable roles in movies, on television and on the Broadway stage. On the big screen, he brought us “Chief George Earle” in "Demolition Man", “Mr. Pease” in “Delores Claiborne”, “Pritchett” in “Broken Arrow”, medical school dean Dr. Walcott in "Patch Adams", Cecil Dobbs in “The Lincoln Lawyer”, and Secretary of State Cyrus Vance in "Argo". But the one role, more than any other, that has guaranteed him cinematic immortality, is his chilling portrayal of the despicable Prison Warden “Samuel Norton” in "The Shawshank Redemption". On television, in addition to many guest appearances on shows like “Miami Vice”, “L.A. Law”, “CSI”, “Nip/Tuck”, “Boston Legal”, “Law & Order: SVU”, “The Blacklist”, and dozens more, he played Governor George Wallace in “Unconquered”, he played Tommy Dorsey in the 1992 miniseries “Sinatra”, he played President Woodrow Wilson in “Iron Jawed Angels”, he played President Nixon in “Elvis Meets Nixon”, and he played President Roosevelt twice: once in the TV movie, “Kingfish: A Story of Huey P. Long”, and again in the miniseries “World War 2: Behind Closed Doors”. He also had recurring roles, as Dr. Leonard Schrader on “Hothouse”, “Judge Homer Conklin” in “Courthouse”, “Mayor Smith” in “Peacemakers”, “Noah Taylor” in “Desperate Housewives”, the Secretary of Defense, then Chief of Staff, then Secretary of State “Ethan Kanin” on “Twenty-Four”, “Leland Owlsley” in "Daredevil", “General William Collins” in “Royal Pains”, and “Jeremiah Davis” in “Trial and Error”. And if all of that weren't enough, our guest is a Broadway superstar. He originated the role of “Juan Perón” in the Broadway premiere of Evita, receiving a Tony Award nomination AND a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical. And he played the title role in the Broadway revival of “Sweeney Todd”, earning a second Tony Award nomination, and nominations for an Outer Critics Circle Award and a Drama Desk Award. His other Broadway credits include “King of Hearts”, for which he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical, “How I Got That Story”, for which he won an Obie Award, a Clarence Derwent Award, and a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Play, “Big River”, for which he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical, and “The Great Ostrovsky”, for which he received a Barrymore Award Nomination for Excellence in Theatre. Mount Paran Christian School hosts forum on 'deadliest drug in America' Missy Owen, CEO of the Davis Direction Foundation, used crutches as a demonstration during a drug awareness seminar at Mount Paran Christian School. The crutches were shown to be a method of smuggling fentanyl across borders by filling the hollow poles with the drug. Fentanyl, described as the deadliest drug in America, has seen an 800% increase in overdoses among ages 10-19. The Davis Direction Foundation, founded by Missy and Michael Owen after the death of their son from a heroin overdose, partnered with organizations like the DEA and local health departments to educate the community about drug addiction. The seminar highlighted the increasing use of fentanyl and its combination with xylazine, resulting in a surge in overdoses. The speakers emphasized the importance of education and early intervention in combating addiction. Jeremiah Davis aka “That One Blond Kid” spends half of the year living in Venice Beach, CA and the other half traveling as a videographer & content creator for influencers, brands and artists. Raised in Claremont, CA he was surrounded by three older brothers and a very supportive family. Baseball was one of his early passions and by the time he made it to college he tossed the towel in and focused on his camera. His life took a turn when he slid through the DM of Rory Kramer, a professional videographer and brought him value by shooting drone footage for him. He would go on to connect with Dave Lingwood, a member of MTV’s The Buried Life and was soon traveling the world with The Chainsmokers with full creative control. Back in September of 2017 his Snapchat Discover Series “Without Limits” launched which was him and his friends traveling around the world pushing themselves to do unimaginable things that most people wouldn’t dare to do. In this episode, Jeff sits down with Jeremiah Davis-Artistic Director and Jennifer Scanlan-Exhibitions & Curatorial Director at Oklahoma Contemporary. We begin the conversation with information about Oklahoma Contemporary and what their mission is and what they offer the public. Oklahoma Contemporary encourages artistic expression in all its forms through education and exhibitions, and their vision is to endeavor to instill in the public a lifetime appreciation of the arts and enthusiasm for creative practice. Throughout the year, Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center enriches the lives of tens of thousands of people, young and old.......from budding artists to seasoned creators, many of whom might not otherwise receive this exposure. They offer a variety of classes and workshops for adults and children six days a week in the arts of painting, pottery, weaving and more. We continue as they both emphasize the fact that they see themselves as a "crossroads of art, expression, and creativity." After that, Jennifer and Jeremiah both share information about their new facility at 11th and Broadway and that they plan to open the new building fully in the Fall of 2019, and Jennifer speaks about the fact that they do have some exhibitions in place at the new facility and have done so for some time. We hear from them that they are very excited to bring all of their exhibits and programs closer to the downtown area as there is so much growth and so many exciting things happening in the downtown area. We then transition into hearing from them about their upcoming exhibit, which opens on Thursday, October 5th and is called Not For Sale: Graffiti Culture in Oklahoma. This will be a group art show and will feature 10 artists who have been an integral part of the Oklahoma graffiti scene. Artists will paint their pieces directly on the walls of the gallery, transforming Oklahoma Contemporary into an amazing display of styles. These artists are part of a culture that promotes creative expression to individuals who have not always had access to the art world. Jeremiah and Jennifer both share an overview of how the idea of this exhibit came into being and also give us a very detailed overview about the exhibit itself. They both speak to the importance of how this exhibit gave them an opportunity to do a lot of outreach to various community organizations to get their input and how that will hopefully lead to more collaboration between all of them for the good of all. After that, we then discuss the evolution of graffiti throughout history and over the last 40 years and how they are really focusing on the aspects of this art form and the values that bring people together and help people change their lives for the better. They explain that graffiti is one of the four elements of hip-hop culture and speak to how their programming associated with this exhibit will be focused on the other three elements as well. We talk briefly about examples of other outdoor areas in OKC that are featuring similar types of this art form. We then hear from them about how all of the artists featured in this exhibit are all from Oklahoma originally and how this particular exhibit may very well be the first one with graffiti-based art being painted directly on the indoor walls to be exhibited in this particular manner. We wrap up this segment hearing about all of the various programs that are planned around this exhibit over the next couple of months.

We discussed the defensive woe's the Hawkeyes have had so far this season. Jeremiah also gave us some insight on the young Hawkeyes (Bohannon, Pemsl, Moss and Cook).
