Jerry Ford and Mariénne Kreitlow are the fourth generation on a farm with a legacy in conservation. Living Song Farm sits on highly erodible land near Minnesota's Crow River, but the practices introduced in the 1940's by Mariénne's father, Willard Kreitlow, have generated topsoil for decades. Jerry and Mariénne share Willard's land ethic, and have worked for several years to find a non-family fifth generation that will continue this legacy even before the farm was officially transferred to them in their 60's. In this second part of our Farm Succession Miniseries, Jerry Ford describes their goals for succession (including living on the farm even after retirement), financial situation, and his experience with the family and non-family transitions that have occurred in tandem. He also details the legal realities of a tangle of life estates, Transfer on Death Deeds, long-term care insurance, and other policies that have shaped their unique experience: “Don't try this at home, kids. Have a lawyer.” Our Farm Succession Miniseries will conclude next week, May 4. Stay tuned! Megan Roberts has experienced many farm transitions–as a non-farm heir to her family dairy farm, as an in-law in a family farm transition, and as an educator. Drawing on over a decade in personal and professional experience in farm succession and estate planning, in this episode she shares several points of consideration for families navigating tough conversations and the complex process of succession. “Something I learned is that there's never enough communication,” says Roberts. Even when family relationships are really strong and there are shared goals, farm succession planning isn't simple and can provoke strong emotions. Roberts encourages families to “be inclusive” in their meetings and conversations on the future of the farm, inviting in-laws and non-farm heirs to be present and have a voice even if they aren't ultimately decision makers. Listen in for more of Roberts' conversation with Dirt Rich host Jared Luhman, who is in the midst of a family farm transition himself, on other things to consider in succession: finances, estate planning and grief, maintaining relationships, security for the elder generation, and more. This is the first of a three-part miniseries on farm succession. Look for Part 2 on April 27, when we'll release an episode with Jerry Ford on a non-family farm transition. Live from the no panic zone—I'm Steve Gruber—I am America's Voice—God Bless America this is the Steve Gruber FIERCE AND FEARLESS – the relentless Pursuit of the truth— Here are three big things you need to know right now— ONE— Blizzard conditions from the Great Lakes to the Eastern seaboard—have hit millions of Americans hard—as winter is getting serious in the New Year— TWO— Ford is jacking up production of its all electric F-150's—and the company says—the reason is simple—the all electric work horse is in very high demand— THREE— Democrats thought they were pretty smart—they thought the American people would reward them for attacking President Donald Trump constantly during his time in The White House— They believed they held the high moral ground and American's would rejoice for their efforts—but that is just not the case— I tried to explain it to them back in 2016 and again in 2020—but they didn't listen—they think they know it all— Instead of working with then President Trump—they exhausted America with endless lies about Russian collusion and the Dossier— They wasted our time—not once but twice in fact to impeach 45—the second time—without a single witness—or a shred of evidence— What is an impeachable offense? Well according to Michigan's only President—long before he held the office—Jerry Ford—it is whatever the House says it is— Sadly that is the legacy left behind by the cowardly Adam Schiff—and the clueless Eric Swalwell—and the other night crawlers and bottom feeders of today's political class—slithering around in the shadows of Washington— those that live inside the swamp— As a result of all that reckless behavior—President Joe Biden—is now the focus of impeachment talk—and it would be just idle threats—except that just about everyone thinks the Republicans are about to take over the House and likely the Senate too—and that means—it will be open season on the Old Man— But the truth is—someone must throw the brake—or this will be the perpetual state of things—every time one party or the other gets the numbers—impeachment will soon follow— American's for the most part are worn out—and even if an impeachment were within reach—you have to ask yourself—is that really in the best interests of this nation? Do we want a constant parade of the politically endangered to be dragged in front of us to face the charges—whatever they may be? I think we are better than that—and just because President Donald Trump was targeted twice—quite unfairly I would add—doesn't mean Republicans should continue to go down that road— We must arrive at a place where we can move past that—and put some of that bad behavior back in the closet— Otherwise we will leave our kids and grandkids a political machine—that is in constant dire stress— We will leave them a country—that never comes back together—because the divorce trial of left and right will be revisited every 3 or 4 years—and the grievances will be aired again and again—and our divisions exposed—not healed—not ever! We must strive to do better with the levers of power—we must strive to lead from a message of common cause—and not perpetuate an us versus them mentality— Many of you may disagree—and that's ok—in fact that's good! It is a conversation we should—no, we must have. How long do we want this kind of caustic atmosphere to persist? If we are the ones lining up and cheering a new impeachment effort against The President—and if it's based on the thinnest of reasons—we are to blame when voters reject our ideas the next time around. Think about it. I will.

It took a little doing, but the team from Failure - the Podcast think they found the first use of that magical phrase "testing, testing one, two, three.....". No, it wasn't in 2010, when Biden dropped the F-bomb on an open mic while introducing then-President Obama's eponymous health care bill. Nor, was it when Sleepy Joe muttered "God save the queen" at the close of the 115th Congress in 2017, after announcing that The Donald had won the electoral college. Had Joe prefaced these utterances with "testing, testing one, two, three," we might be more sure they weren't gaffes and that he isn't the Democrat re-incarnation of Jerry Ford.We took our search to Google Books, hoping to find something through its Library Project. You remember that, don't you? All the fanfare over scanning the world's books onto the Internet so that they could be searched from your browser. No such luck: the copyright laws prevailed. Good thing for that. Which brings us to Google n-grams, a handy tool that searches millions of books (perhaps, collected during the ill-fated Library Project?) for words and phrases and returns their frequency by year. Search for "pandemic," for example, and you get spikes at 1920, 2008 (remember the "swine flu"), and ... well ... let's just assume 2020, once the books are written on this one.So, how about "testing, testing one, two, three ...," when did that phrase come about? Best the team from Failure - the Podcast can tell, it was the mid-1940's. World War II, and all that. Sounds about right, doesn't it? You can just imagine a John Wayne character at the mic as he readies to rally the troops for yet another epic battle. (Don't know John Wayne? Think Ronald Regan minus the political years, but with a whole lot more luck at the box office).Which brings us back to testing. COVID-19, that is. Black gold. Texas tea. (Cue the "Beverly Hillbillies" theme). It's not behind us. Testing, that is. (The hillbillies? Like the 1960s, they _are_ behind us). Sure, the vaccine will help. A whole lot, we hope. But the need for testing? Well, let's just say that serial entrepreneur Sanjay Manandhar has it right when he says "24 hours to get COVID-19 test results? There's got to be a better way!" Who's Sanjay? Have a listen to today's episode of Failure - the Podcast, and find out.

One of the books that gripped me the most over the years I've been interviewing authors has to be JT McCormick's book, "I Got There." (Episode 43.) His story is gritty and raw; his rise to prosperity - noteworthy. JT is the CEO of Scribe Media (formerly Book in a Box,) and when I reached out to see if they had authors that would fit our "Mind-Changing Radio" format, I was introduced to Jerry Ford. Like JT's, Jerry's story is a series of twists and turns, serendipitous moments and offers compelling parallels to JT's in many ways. I was surprised to hear the two haven't met - yet. I don't know if you do this or not, but when I read a book, I get a vibe from the author and this book was no different. This is a no-nonsense guy who takes life with an "everything you do is life or death," energy. He's all in on his debut book and it shows and it's very understandable why he lives his life this way. After seeing his brother murdered at the tender age of 14, Jerry Ford had to choose between a life of violence or one of opportunity. Rising from the streets of Detroit to Wall Street, Jerry Ford shares his 3-prong strategy to wealth in his latest book, "Guns, Drugs or Wealth." Starting as a personal trainer, Jerry grows his passion into a profitable business, morphing his income by 100k. It isn't until he meets his mentor, Bill, that he learns wealth lies in assets, not the liabilities tied to the fancy car you drive. In this episode, learn: - The best habits Jerry follows for continued success. - Why security stifles ambition. - The best time to look for and negotiate foreclosed properties. - Why getting fired could be the best thing to ever happen to you. (Psst: f you're a stock broker? You might wanna cover your ears around the 21-minute mark...) Jerry also talks about 1031 Exchange, how to find a mentor and his fascinating journey will keep you riveted to the show and hunting for his book. Definitely a good read for those looking for inspiration. See our Guest Offerings at SelfTalkRadioShow.com

BASF is in high cotton since the acquisition of Stoneville and Fiber Max as a result of the Bayer-Monsanto deal, as well as soybean varieties such as Credenz and Liberty Link. This is a new field for BASF but along with the brands came many specialists from Bayer who know the products well. Over the past month, Chuck has been to several field days and events spotlighting the BASF cotton and soybean brands so we are featuring some of the interviews he has done in this ZimmCast. The person who has been in charge of these events is Rachel Walters, Cottonseed Marketing Manager for BASF. The first field day he attended was in Louisiana, where he talked with Jerry Ford, regional seed lead for the South Delta region. At that same field day, regional agronomist Kyle Fontenot (fon-ten-no) talked about some of the hot cotton and soybean varieties BASF is excited about. The annual Celebrate Cotton Texas Tech football game, which has been an annual event for years to spotlight FiberMax and Stoneville cotton, helped to introduce the new owners of the brands to a larger audience. Monty Christian, Head of Global Cottonseed for BASF, was previously with Bayer and has always looked forward to the celebrate cotton event. During a field day in Marion Arkansas, BASF regional seed lead Lance Rochelle talked about their commitment to the cotton industry. BASF just held a big field day in Lubbock Texas with hundreds of growers and retailers. US Agronomic Services Manager Steve Nichols talks about the experience of the agronomic team that BASF has in place for their new portfolio. In addition to talking with cotton farmers and retailers, the company is also getting acquainted with buyers who are looking for sustainability in the cotton they source for clothing. Chuck talked with Malin Westfall, U.S. Cotton Lead for BASF, during a field day in Lubbock Texas about the E3 initiative that came with the Bayer cotton business.

President Barack Obama: narrow winner or big loser in November. Presidential election history gives us indications that Mr. Obama either squeaks back into the White House or gets an undignified boot in the back of his designer trousers. In modern presidential elections, only Jerry Ford lost his re-election bid narrowly. Odds are, if Mr. Obama loses, it will probably be on the order of Hoover (1932) or Carter (1980). If Mr. Obama wins, it's closer to George W. Bush's re-election in 2004. But the conditions are dramatically different in the country from 2004, and not to Mr. Obama's advantage.
