EP 192: In this special replay episode, join Andy and Chuck (aka Tate and His Mate) for a fresh and fun new intro and outro as they revisit one of our most fascinating conversations to date with Jim Powell. Jim is a pastor, author, and leader of leaders, and in this episode, he dives deep into the world of artificial intelligence and ChatGPT. Jim explains how AI, particularly ChatGPT, is poised to transform our lives in ways similar to the Internet and smartphones. He breaks down how AI works, its implications for the Church, and why it's something we all need to pay attention to. This episode is not just informative but also packed with laughter and fun moments, as Andy and Chuck ensure that learning about AI is an enjoyable experience. Sit back, relax, and get ready to learn…and laugh. This is one replay you won't want to miss!
In what is arguably his 3rd appearance on the show and his first in many months — Jim returns to sort through some very important topics! We talk about the weather, learn the contents of his kitchen junk drawer, his stories about his old man's road tales, talk favorite fictional politicians and SO much more. PLUS, Jim announces his future political plans. You won't want to miss this mess of an episode.Did you miss the Week 1 Jim Powell episode? Do yourself a favor and go back and listen to the pilot episode of this podcast (as well as Jim's return several weeks later for some BONUS nonsense.)dantimepod@gmail.com
If you ever wanted to know someone who was from Peoria twice, J.D.'s guest, Jim Powell, is your man. He is currently serving as the Senior Pastor of Palm West Community Church. While he grew up in a Christian home, Jim went through all the mechanics of the Luther church his family attended. But he never really understood what it meant to have a relationship with Christ. In college, Jim worked as a DJ in a club and would finish work early in the morning. He is probably under the influence of an adult beverage. While watching late-night television infomercials, he orders a copy of “Power for Living.” He forgot that he ordered a copy. Eventually, he started reading it, and it changed his life forever. You will be encouraged by Jim's journey.
Jim Powell is a man on a mission! He recently reached out to Dale to share how he has personally benefitted from using A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) in his ministry leadership. Jim's passion for serving pastors and leaders, specifically in small churches, is what led him to create 95Network many years ago. He personally understands the stress and struggles of the many responsibilities placed upon church leaders.Today's podcast is a great conversation about how using A.I. can create much needed margin in the life of a leader. While there are certainly areas of caution to consider, Jim hopes that each of us will not miss the opportunity using it to lift our weekly work loads. EP.154: Jim Powell is a pastor, author, and leader of leaders. This is one of our most fascinating episodes to date as Jim unpacks all things AI (artificial intelligence) ChatGPT, and how he believes it is going to change our lives just like the Internet and smartphones did. He educates us on how AI ChatGPT works and why it's relevant to the Church. Sit back, relax, and get ready to learn...and laugh. Yes, we might've had too much fun on this one!
Dan Time begins with a shocker! Due to a last-minute change of plans, we kick things off with the next best thing to a Dan. I welcome the man who officiated my wedding. My best friend — Jim Powell. We discuss friendship, service, pizza, celebrity doppelgängers and much more. It is time for the world to know what I know about The Jim Hammer. (Along with John Thompson, Jim is also the co-host of the Gimmie 10 Podcast.)
What is greatness and how does it apply to us? Join Pastor Jim Powell as he walks us through Mark 10:32-44 and unpacks Jesus' Model of Greatness.

Roy L Hales/ Cortes Currents - On Friday, May 27, a group of pro-fish farm scientists responded to recent testimonies before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans through an opinion article in the Globe and Mail. Four of the authors are from British Columbia. Dr Tony Farrell is a professor and Canada Research Chair for fish physiology, culture and conservation at the University of British Columbia. Farrell has previously gone on record stating he was 'absolutely delighted' that the BC Salmon Farmers Association funds research projects. Three of his co-authors have past or present connections to the BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences in Campbell River. Prior to relaunching his consulting firm Fidelis Aquaculture Management in 2020, Dr Jim Powell was CEO at the BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences for six years. At the time of his retirement, Powell told SeaWestNews, “those opposed to farming in the ocean need a stability to ensure their concerns are addressed, and the fish farmers need a stability to grow sustainably…we don't have that now.” Dr Ahmed Siah, a research scientist at the BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences, was the presenter of Marine Harvest Canada's Environment Award in 2014. Dianne Morrison of Marine Harvest Canada (now known as MOWI) was one of the co-authors of Dr Siah's 2015 paper on Piscine Reovirus. They were also co-authors of another paper on the same topic. Morrison is currently the Chair of MOWI. Dr Siah recently took part in a two year study of bacterial diseases in farmed and wild salmon. The DFO index page names John Paul Fraser, then Executive Director of the BC Salmon Farmers Association, as a collaborator. Dr Spencer Russell is an associate professor at the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture at Vancouver Island University. In the bio accompanying a recent lecture, it states Dr Russel provided ‘veterinary, technical and scientific support for aquaculture clients globally.' He sits on the board of the BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences. Two of his fellow directors work in the fish farm industry. In their Globe and Mail article, Farrell et al. state: “The House of Commons Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans heard from an organized group of scientists and anti-salmon farming activists who alleged that the DFO withheld certain studies. The group also criticized recent Canadian Science Advisory Secretariat reports concerning potential risk to wild salmon of pathogens from farmed salmon as being unreliable, because the reports did not support the activists' claim that salmon farming poses significant harm to wild salmon. As scientists who have contributed to many peer-reviewed analyses on salmon conservation and farming for the DFO, we're compelled to respond to prevent propagation of any misinformation. Canadians can trust the scientific facts and advice presented by CSAS, the science evaluation body of the DFO. Home-grown, ocean-farmed salmon is a valuable food resource for Canadians. It is an affordable, highly nutritious protein with year-round access.”

"FDR didn't do anything about a major cause of 90 percent of the bank failures, namely, state and federal unit banking laws. These limited banks to a single office, preventing them from diversifying their loan portfolios and their source of funds. Unit banks were highly vulnerable to failure when local business conditions were bad, because all their loans were to local people, many of whom were in default, and all their deposits came from local people who were withdrawing their money. Canada, which permitted nationwide branch banking, didn't have a single bank failure during the Great Depression." “David Lawrence, founder of US News & World Report, warned, 'Confiscation of wealth may satisfy the vengeful in us. It may sooth a retaliatory spirit. But it is the path of national suicide...There must always be the reward motive. To many people it is but another way to set goals of human ambition...When government kills the opportunity to earn, it sounds the death knell of the opportunity to serve.'" –Jim Powell, FDR's Folly

Jim Powell. Let all things be done decently and in order, for the building up of the church and for peace. When you come together... • WITHOUT confusing self-expression. (26-33) • WITH awareness of the Source/authority of the Word. (36-40) • WITH clear expectation. (39-40)
Jim Powell. Command. (1) Pursue love and earnestly desire spiritual maturity for the building up of the church. Context. (2-5) What does it mean to prophesy? What is speaking in tongues? Then/there. Here/now. Appeal. (6-25) Communicating intelligibly. (6-11, 16-17, 23) Maturing wholly. (13-17, 19-20) Impacting outsiders. (16-17, 21-25) Questions. 1. Do I pursue love and spiritual maturity for the building up of the church – by presence, word and deed? 2. Am I an infant in evil but maturing in my thinking and my desires? [Or, am I the opposite?] 3. Am I convicted about the telling AND hearing of God's Word?
Jim Powell. Love. The ONLY thing. (1-3) Love is... (4-7) THIS. NOT you. HIM. Love NEVER ends. (8-13)

Post by Skyler J. Collins (Editor). This episode features a lecture by historian Jim Powell from 2011. For thousands of years, slavery went unchallenged in principle. Then in a single century, slavery was abolished and more than seven million slaves were freed throughout the Western hemisphere. The scope and speed of this transformation make it one of the most amazing feats in modern history. Powell concisely illuminates the beginnings of the abolitionist movement, then proceeds through the processes, the battles, the final victory of emancipation, and the incredible impact of its aftermath. Ultimately, Powell argues, the more violence was involved in the emancipation process, the worse the outcomes were, making a provocative case for peaceful antislavery struggles.

[General Odierno] felt that we'd spent the first several years of the Iraq War re-learning many of the lessons of the Vietnam War In 2013, a team of authors was commissioned by then Chief of Staff of the Army General Odierno to write a study of Operation Iraqi Freedom to glean insights for immediate practical application. The resulting two-volume report (Volume I | Volume II) was completed in 2016 but not authorized for release until early in 2019. In this presentation, A BETTER PEACE welcomes co-editor U.S. Army Colonel (Retired) Frank Sobchak and author U.S. Army Colonel Jim Powell to discuss their experiences of assembling the team, researching the report, and ultimately writing what came to a 1300-page product with tremendous implications for the current and future Army. What were more important insights? What were the toughest challenges, beyond the sheer size of the project? A BETTER PEACE Editor Jacqueline E. Whitt moderates. Frank Sobchak is a retired colonel in the U.S. Army and co-editor of the Iraqi Freedom Study (with U.S. Army Colonel Joel Rayburn. Jim Powell is a colonel in the U.S. Army and one of the Study's authors. Jacqueline E. Whitt is Professor of Strategy at the U.S. Army War College and the Editor of A BETTER PEACE. "An eighth-grade class trip to Washington, D.C., can often be the highlight of grade school - see the White House, meet your member of Congress. But students from North Ridgeville City School District outside of Cleveland, Ohio were notified recently their D.C. trip was canceled. Administrators called it off because of fears of a terrorist attack or a mass shooting" (per NPR reporter Lulu Garcia-Navarro, November, 2017). PARENTS MADE THE DECISION TO NIX THE TRIP. The parents pressured the school superintendent to cancel the trip – noting a myriad of safety concerns from active shooter to a vehicle jumping onto a walking path. The killing of 8 people by a motorist intentionally driving on a Manhattan bike path in October likely contributed to the parents' fears and the October 1st Las Vegas mass shooting certainly was fresh in the adults' minds. To his credit, district superintendent Jim Powell was tactful in his statements, but also expressed regret in the parents' collective position as he stated he had taken his own family on a trip to Washington D.C. SENTINEL NATIONAL INCIDENTS CREATE MASS HYSTERIA AND CONVINCE PARENTS THE NATION IS NOT SAFE. When asked if he had to previously cancel a trip like this because of fears, superintendent Powell stated he recalled districts canceling trips right after 9/11/01. Lulu Garcia-Navarro pointed out that safety incidents can occur just about anywhere, whether in a small town or a big city. Her statement is interesting considering the November, 2017 mass murder at the church in tiny Sutherland Springs, Texas. Yes, these events can and do happen everywhere. Also, Washington D.C. boasts a strong police presence and its various public safety forces train diligently to promote safe environments for tourists. Furthermore, these students live 22 miles from Cleveland – which per several metrics I reviewed presents its own risks to personal safety. DENYING ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS & THWARTING FUTURE RECONNAISSANCE. A statistical fact is that the students were as (un)likely to perish in a bus accident to /from DC as per being victims of an attack in DC. The odds were less than being struck by lightning. TEACH AWARENESS & LEARN SAFE TRAVEL TIPS. There are numerous reputable websites, as well as professional services, to help schools plan and carryout safe trips to the nation's capital. Examples are https://www.visitthecapitol.gov/education and https://www.nationsclassroomtours.com/school-tours/school-trips-to-washington-dc Canceling this trip when there was not an imminent threat warning for DC sends powerful, and wrong, messages to youth. First, our nation's capital is not safe, and hence, our nation is not safe. Second, you're taking your lives in your own hands if you travel domestically or abroad. Third, forget about engaging in reconnaissance as a teen or young adult as America is simply too dangerous to explore without an armada. Learning how to be a safe traveler is an essential skill in our global economy. More than a trip to DC was taken from these students. FOLLOW DR. What happens if you throw a depression and nobody from the government shows up? No Quantitative Easers or fiscal stimulators or financial-firm rescuers? And what would happen if, instead of lowering interest rates and spending more to spur recovery, the government did nothing? The answer, in 1921 at least, is that the economy not only recovers but is "roaring" in less than two years. Was "The Crash that Cured Itself," as the subtitle of James Grant's fascinating new book refers to it, a fluke, or does it offer useful lessons for today's erstwhile depression fighters?Join us to hear James Grant, Jim Powell, and Lawrence H.
