What's the secret to finding fulfillment after achieving massive entrepreneurial success? Find out in this conversation with the ex-President and current Board Director of $2 billion online course platform Kajabi, Jonathan Cronstedt, also known as JCron.
Elzie Flenard engages in a dynamic conversation with Jonathan Cronstedt about leadership, self-leadership, and the transformative journey of Kajabi. Jonathan emphasizes the evolving nature of leadership across different stages, highlighting the challenges of self-leadership and the need to overcome the desire for approval.Their discussion explores the intricate relationship between purpose, culture, and business growth, drawing inspiration from Netflix's "good goodbye" concept. Jonathan introduces the "bullseye" concept from his upcoming book, "Billion Dollar Bullseye," outlining seven core areas of focus in a business. Purpose, profit, product, prestige, promotion, persuasion, and people form the concentric rings that contribute to a company's growth.Jonathan shares valuable lessons for entrepreneurs, urging them to focus on solving real problems, remaining customer-centric, and adapting to the evolving landscape of business. As the conversation unfolds, listeners gain deep insights into the dynamics of leadership, navigating challenges, and the power of purpose in driving entrepreneurial success.Episode Highlights:13:31 - The most famous quote on culture is from Peter Drucker, who says "Culture eats strategy for breakfast", and he's right. This is one of those areas where I think the biggest mistake that most companies are making as it relates to their culture is that they're trying to be everything to everybody. And you just simply can't be that, whether you're looking at the customers you serve, the employees you have, or even your own internal goals, I really do think that you've got to get very, very precise on what those goals are and how those goals are brought about through an organization.28:09 - I don't know the right answer for you. I know the right answer for Kajabi was to remain steadfastly focused. The outcome, which was the success of our customers, meant that when our customers needed email, we built email. When our customers needed automated live events, we built automated live events. It meant that whatever our customers needed, we were committed to staying at the forefront of that for them.32:20 - I'm a much bigger fan of actual intelligence than I am of artificial intelligence. That's the AI that I choose to focus on. I think that right now, AI is an amazing tool, but it's a terrible leader. If you're counting on the fact that AI is going to replace your business, then you probably deserve to be replaced by AI. If the world needed information and that was what was important or relevant, we'd already be set; you know, all of the information is online, available for free, and in a disorganized and possibly not true fashion, but it's all out there and available. And AI is learning off of that and is a little bit better. But I think we're going to see AI go through the same adoption curve that we always see everything go through that everyone's going to get really excited about, like the Internet in 1995.Connect with Elzie LinkedInJoin the Flame StartersSupport the journeyContact JonathanLinkedIn

In this episode, we will hear the story of Jonathan Cronstedt, also known as JCron, who went from bankruptcy to building a $2 billion company. He is going to share with us about the book he is writing: Billion Dollars Bullseye: My 7 Almost Never Fail Double Unicorn Strategy and will discuss valuable lessons for all people involved in the business.JCron also shares his journey with Kajabi, which he helped grow from a $6 million ARR company with 25 employees to a $2 billion valuation with over 400 team members. He discusses the challenges of dealing with success and how he struggled to figure out what to do after achieving such a significant milestone. Key takeaways:[00:00:12] Roland Frasier introduces Jonathan and shares his background story.[00:03:31] JCron talks about the impact of working with Roland, his generosity, and how he has influenced his business life.[00:07:56] The first three areas to focus on are foundational: purpose, profit, and product. Without these concepts, the business will not scale. Everything else serves as an amplifier.[00:20:55] Building in public allows you to move from a push strategy to a pull strategy. It attracts people to your business and helps articulate and optimize your purpose. This will be the biggest trend of entrepreneurship in the coming decade.[00:22:57] Profit is essential in your business, and knowing your numbers is key to making intelligent decisions.[00:27:33] Product is the single biggest lever in your business, and having a distinguished product and service is crucial for success.[00:28:59] The prestigious customer experience was an amplifier that changed the game for Kajabi.[00:43:40] Persuasion: Persuasion is an amplifier for your business, and it should pick up where marketing leaves off. The ultimate persuasion framework is based on Blair Warren's quote: "People will do anything for those who encourage their dreams, justify their failures, allay their fears, confirm their suspicions, and help them throw rocks at their enemies." Persuasion is about getting people intellectually engaged and emotionally charged to take action.[00:47:49] People: The final area of focus is people. To attract and retain A players, you need to have solid systems in place that support your people strategy. Hire slow and fire fast, and use "good goodbyes" to give people a respectable send-off when the business has grown in a different direction.[00:51:00] Conclusion: By focusing on purpose, product, profit, promotion, persuasion, and people, you can expand your target and hit your billion dollar bullseye.[00:53:28] Answering participant questions.[00:59:00] Jonathan advises focusing on your internal purpose to guide you through an existential crisis.[01:04:42] Roland Frasier emphasizes the importance of having a continuity of purpose in entrepreneurship even after the exit of a business. Having multiple businesses that one enjoys can provide continuity of purpose.[01:09:23] Jonathan Cronstedt answers a question on retention and emphasizes the financial and product functions of retention in a business. He also talks about net dollar retention as the holy grail of a business.[01:12:04] The inflection points for raising capital are driven by intellectual capital needs and industry changes, not financial needs.Ask Roland and Ryan a question HERE.RESOURCES:7 Steps to Scalable workbookGet my book, Zero Down, FREEThanks so much for
Jerome and special guest Jonathan Cronstadt dive into how Jonathan achieved a "double unicorn" exit from Kajabi. Through two foundational elements - relationships and delivering value - and fate, Jonathan went from working with Joe Polish to achieving a $2 billion valuation. This conversation focuses on the idea that success is not a destination but a journey of joy and fulfillment. They discuss the concept of hedonic adaptation, which states that any reward will have diminishing returns over time, and how this affects income growth. Jonathan also discusses the tricky balance between financial freedom and hard work, risk-taking, commitment, and dedication to one's goals. They share personal anecdotes about their journey to illustrate the price of success and what is needed to reach it. This episode is an inspiring reminder that financial freedom is achievable with hard work, support from family and friends, mentorship, and meaningful investments in oneself. [00:01 - 13:15] From 6 Million to a 2 Billion Valuation: J Kron's Journey to the Double Unicorn Exit The two foundational elements of Jonathan's success are relationships and delivering value Joy comes from the pursuit, overcoming of challenges, and playing the game Success is a journey, not a destination You will never know the price of success until after you've paid it The pursuit of fulfillment is more important than financial freedom [13:16 - 23:32] The Cost of Success: Risk, Time, and Effort to Reach Your Goals Financial freedom is having the means to live life how you want it Success comes with a cost, which may be measured in years, risk, time, and effort Taking accountability for circumstances is essential to move forward Investing in yourself is vital and requires hard work and discipline [23:33 - 35:46] From Think and Grow Rich to Joe Polish: John's Journey of Finding Mentors and Taking Risks for Success How Jonathan met Steve James, who taught him the importance of sales Moved to Arizona to be mentored by Joe Polish in marketing Other mentors include Matt Beak Holmes, Tony Robbins, Mike Cans, Ryan Dice, Perry Belcher, Ron Frazier, and Kenny Reeder [35:47 - 43:09] How Watches Represent a Symbol of Achievement There is valuable wisdom available for very little money Social media is a voyeuristic, narcissistic dream that people use to show off their highlight reels People don't love you for who you are. They love what you have Watches are an aspirational purchase that can be passed down to the next generation [43:10 - 54:53] Closing Segment Friendships should be about how excited we are to talk now Perfect happiness is found in making progress toward a worthy pursuit Happiness equals progress Accountability comes from producing, not consuming. Quotes: "With each level of challenge, there comes a new hurdle that you've got to overcome." - Jonathan Cronstedt "You will never know your price of success until after you've paid it." - Jonathan Cronstedt "No matter where you are, there's always going to be a path that is appropriate for your budget." - Jonathan Cronstedt Connect with Jonathan! We all know that consulting for equity works. But is it possible to consult for equity in multi-million dollar businesses? On today's episode, host Roland Frasier talks to Jonathan Cronstedt, a dangerously dedicated executive strategist who helps businesses grow, scale, and exit (or at least be exit ready). They discuss why consulting for equity is the fastest way consultants, coaches, or industry experts can grow their wealth and escape the time-for-money trap. If you're like most consultants, you simply charge fees for the services you provide. However, as Jon explains, many clients would happily trade equity for valuable and strategic advice. Tune in to learn Jon's innovative model for consulting for equity and how this can be a great way to build wealth if you structure the deal correctly. IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN: Consulting for equity How to transition from consulting for cash to consulting for equity Get past the fear of asking for equity Overcoming imposter syndrome and nailing the consult Structure of a consulting for equity deal Difference between a $500 client and a $50,000 client Why free advice is terrible for all parties involved Consulting is not about having all the answers LINKS AND RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cronstedt/ (Jonathan's LinkedIn) Ask Roland and Ryan a question http://businesslunchpodcast.com/ask (HERE). This conversation took place at a recent https://www.warroommastermind.com/ (War Room Mastermind), which members pay $35k/year for, so you're getting a valuable inside look. When he came on board, they had 30 employees and $6 million in annual recurring revenue. Now they're at 400 employees and a 9-figure ARR. A lot has been discussed about mindfulness, and Dr. Ellen Langer, social psychologist and the mother of mindfulness, walks us through a deeper understanding on what mindfulness really is. People tend to think of it as something that’s strictly about meditation or just a way to empty your mind and be in the present, but these are just empty instructions as mindfulness is more than that. Dr. Langer sheds light on the real sense of mindfulness and the numerous ways it can benefit you. A passionate advocate for digital education, Jonathan Cronstedt, President of Kajabi, talks about his work with the company. Jonathan Cronstedt is the President of Kajabi; an online business and education platform that has seen its user sell over $700 million in digital products. He’s also the former CEO of Digital Marketer and has served in a number of different sales and marketing roles. In this episode we discuss: What is Kajabi? “We want to provide the knowledge that you are at the right place, at the right time, with the right playbook.” - Jonathan Cronstedt Anyone in the digital marketing sphere knows how much sway trends have over online businesses and the way they are run. One minute, YouTube ads are in, the next it’s Snapchat, and so on. Information overload reigns supreme and people get frightened and burn out immediately. Jonathan Cronstedt and Kajabi want to help eliminate that. Jonathan serves as the President of Kajabi, although he worked his way from the mortgage business to a mentorship with Joe Polish, to his current position. Kajabi itself is a course platform built around helping clients live life on their terms. They provide a transformational experience that uses psychological motivators to mimic the joy and surprise of opening a physical gift. This reduces burnout by allowing people who have a message and some expertise (but who may not be fantastic at technology) to guide others on a journey that ultimately transforms lives. “You may be purposefully using technology as a barrier because you’re afraid of getting your message out there. There are the people who are playing business with the newest technology available, but they’re not actually doing the things that drive the business forward.” - Jonathan Cronstedt On the subject of trends, Jonathan is a firm believer in finding one thing that works and sticking with it, rather than picking a number of “shiny objects” that pull your focus every which way. He hopes to reinstate real community engagement online through Kajabi and expose the dangers of hiding behind technology to “feel” productive. “The unique thing about success is that it’s the only thing in life, when you choose to buy it, you won’t know how much it costs until after you’ve paid it. You can only decide that you’re going to purchase it, but you don’t know the price until after it’s been paid.” - Jonathan Cronstedt From bankruptcy to a 5-minute phone call with Joe Polish which resulted in a life-changing, door-opening 3 months of work, Jonathan says that the key to connecting with people – whether high-impact or no – is to recognize that nobody owes you a thing (always bring something to the table), and to consider first what you can do for other people, not what they can do for you. Simply show up every day and put in the work, and no circumstance life throws at you will be able to hold you back.
