In the second installment of the Oral History of the Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, Dan, Stu and Mike Ryan take us through the era of the show between 2007-2010. A wild period for the show, the episode begins with an executive calling Stugotz from a tree in Texas. That marked the end of Primetime Media Group, and Stugotz discusses how he kept the station alive by orchestrating the takeover of 790 The Ticket by Lincoln Financial Media. You'll here from who the crew credits as the show's savior, Dennis Collins, about why 790 was an attractive investment. Then, the crew talks about Roy joining the show, the show's pursuit of taking down Hank Goldberg in the ratings and how live events became such a big part of growing the show's audience. You'll hear from former executive producer, Mark Hochman, about the legendary Wanny McStache's and Jai-Alai events. Also, the show goes viral for the first time as they invade Randy Moller's Panthers' broadcasts with his iconic goal calls. Finally, Hoch decides to take on more power by becoming Program Director at 790, and the cracks begin to show as we look toward Episode 3. Stick around for the Supercut from this time period which includes some of the show's most hilarious and iconic moments including the Joan Rivers hangup, the Julio Franco story and Dan and Stu's legendary call of a Marlins game. The Joker thinks all it takes to turn a good man bad is one bad day. And, in the eyes of many baseball fans, that's what happened to Juan Marichal 58 years ago this week when he attacked Dodgers catcher Johnny Roseboro with his bat. But this incident was so much more complicated than a hotheaded ballplayer losing control, and Marichal's exceptional career cannot fairly be boiled down to his worst day. Mike and Bill detail the life of The Dominican Dandy to explain why. Plus, happy birthday to Julio Franco and Kal Daniels!
Julio Franco turns 65 today, so Producer Josh honors the greatest old guys in the history of sports.

Saudações, ouvintes apaixonados por locução. Está NO AR o 70º podcast VOZ OFF! 5-26-2022 Passed Ball Show. John opens up this version of the program by questioning why Manu Ginobili is in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. The Four Time NBA Champion had an exciting run, but John believes this is just another example of the NBA's Hall of Fame being watered down. John then compares the decision most recent Florida Panthers forward Joe Thornton has to make regarding his future to former MLB players Julio Franco, Jamie Moyer, and Bartolo Colon. The latter group had the energy and stamina to continue playing but were a shed of their best. Does Thornton want to be like Udonis Haslem? Not everybody is Tom Brady. Finally, John talks about the decision of the Las Vegas Raiders to work out Colin Kaepernick. John believes Kaepernick is owed that closure even if his comeback is not successful. John points to recent NFL comebacks by Tiki Barber and Tim Tebow as reasons that Kaepernick should be given an opportunity to attend training camp.

MLB has a new initiative to attract fans, and it's pants-free baseball! Checking in on the sticky stuff situation got a whole lot more interesting as Max Scherzer and Sergio Romo dropped their pants to prove they aren't hiding anything to doctor the baseball. Wander Franco is legit and the Rays have yet another great prospect to boost their playoff chances. But the real question remains, is he just Julio Franco in a fake moustache trying to get some more at-bats into his already lengthy career? The Red Sox Cinderella season continues, with a little help from the schedule makers. Let's see how it goes when they play Toronto, New York and Tampa for 21 consecutive games! And if you're a pitcher who values his ERA, don't pitch to Vlad Jr. he's hitting .448 with men in scoring position! Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure Mets players from the past. Julio Franco began his professional baseball journey when he was signed by the Phillies as a young shortstop out of the Dominican Republic in 1978. It was a journey that would ultimately land him in Flushing with the New York Mets almost 30 years later. With his career seemingly winding down in the late 1990s, Franco spend four seasons overseas before working his way back to the majors in his 40s. The veteran would sign with the Mets prior to the 2006 season, providing leadership—and some historic hits—for a young team on the rise. As always, you can listen or subscribe to this and all of our wonderful Amazin’ Avenue Audio podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app, or listen wherever you get podcasts. If you’ve got an idea for a player to be featured on UnforMETable, let us know in the comments. Make sure to follow Rob on Twitter (@WolffRR), and you can now follow the show, too (@unformetable). Tune in next week for another tale from the Mets’ past. Learn more about your ad choices. Pitchers don't often get hit by line drives and get it to the skull even less frequently. But it does happen, as much as 2 - 3 times per season. We note a number of well known current MLB pitchers that have been the victim of a shot to the head. Currently there are no MLB pitchers wearing protective headgear on the mound. There are a number of reasons for that and we discuss all that and more with former major league pitcher Willie Blair who was felled by a line drive off the bat of Julio Franco in 1997 and returned to pitch not only the same season, but for four more seasons. We are grateful for the introduction to Willie from Jason Berge - a friend of the podcast. Willie Blair a terrific guy and very open and honest about his own experience as well as what might be done to protect pitchers from a catastrophic injury or even worse. Thank you Willie! If you are interested in reading there's also a related article posted on Gary Livacari's site https://www.baseballhistorycomesalive.com/protecting-pitchers-from-line-drives/

On a very special episode of the Total Bases Podcast, Felipe is joined by Baseball Cosmos curator Melvin Lopez, as the guys create their 25-man roster of the greatest Dominican baseball players. The Dominican Republic recently celebrated 156 years of independence. To celebrate, the guys built their own lineup of Dominican players. The guys had to pick one catcher, first, second, and third baseman, shortstop, left, center, and right fielders, and one designated hitter. The guys also had to select 5 starting pitchers. The remaining 11 players had to be dispersed among the bullpen and the position players on the bench. Along the way, they had some tough decisions to make: --Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Sammy Sosa in right field? --Aramis Ramirez, Edwin Encarnacion, or Jose Bautista as the backup third baseman? --Pedro Martinez or Juan Marichal as the ace of the starting rotation? --Will there be enough room for Nelson Cruz, Alfonso Soriano, Starling Marte, or Raul Mondesi? --What about guys like Julio Franco, Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez, or Pedro Guerrero? All these questions and more will be answered on this episode of the podcast!
